Sgro Must Step Down; Cdn Gov't Threats
maplesyrup replied to maplesyrup's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Susan Delecourt said on Politics today that there is a growing backlash in Canada against the Conservative witch hunt against women concerning their attacks against Judy Sgro during Question Period. Maybe PM Martin will have a little cabinet shuffle over the holidays, eh! -
What's The Matter With Men Anyways?

Both! -
Disaster heebie-jeebies I wonder who is responsible in Canada to prepare for this kind of disaster, and what kind of planning has been done in the event of such a disaster? I guess we'll leave the astroid threat up to our air force, eh!
-
Did you try Sgro's Chief of Staff? Nothing like displaying your lack of compassion, eh!

Dollar decline gathers pace, shaking global markets Why would China announce it publically before it divested itself of some of its US dolla holdings? So far no quote on moon gas! /1025
-
Moon gas may solve Earth's energy crisis Are we not brilliant - humankind at work in a crisis. We need to pat ourselves on the back once in a while, and this may be one of those occasions. Who says scientists are not the most important people on our planet?

Embattled minister promises changes to exotic dancer rules A bit too late, at least as far as the minister holding onto her job, I would say. -
Liberal threats alleged It is time for Immigration Minister Sgro to go, and for there to be an inquiry into her ministry that seems to be involved with threats, intimidation, strippers, strip clubs, prostitution, tax evasion, immigration fraud, and who knows what else. What in the world is our Canadian government coming to getting mixed up in all this low-life underworld stuff?

This is incredible: Gold: $453. Do you know when gold was last at this price? June '88. This is different than a spike up. It is steadily climbing day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year. Silver $7.76 Cdn dolla: $0.8519

This quiz reveals a lot. It points out a deficiency in the male species. Maybe when genetic reasearch is more advanced scientists will be able to remove whatever it is in the male anatomy that is so troublesome to the rest of society (women and children). -
Iranians Refuse to Terminate Nuclear Plans This is country number two on the US Axis of Evil List, after Iraq, and before N. Korea. (I guess we are 4th). Is Canada going to sit idly by and shrug its shoulders here? Do we have any business getting involved? Why? And if we are going to get involved, what exactly are we going to do, beside ring our hands? BTW China is sticking its nose into this situation as well. We're just one big happy family out there, aren't we!

Unfortunately I believe it is the dog-eat-dog philosophy of the US and their pervasive influence over Canada (our Canadian elites want to emulate the US elites), that is the root cause of these problems in Canada. These are not Canadian values.
-
Cartman....I agree. As the differences in values between our two countries becomes more and more pronounced, and as the disgusting behaviour of the US bullies over softwood lumber and mad cow, etc. shows, it is obvious you can't be both.

Investors stay in Canada or leave. Take your pick. Who is going to pay for your social programs once you create these wealthy tax refugees? With the assets the rich will be forced to leave behind, should they choose to abandon Canada, the place that allowed to make all that money in the first place, we have more than ample for everyone in Canada to be looking after as far as food, clothing, shelter, medical7 dental care & eduction. We'll do just fine, thank you. I suppose you think it is OK, and a good example, for our Canadian prime minister to have put his company off shore, to avoid paying Canadian income taxes (which could pay for a lot of social services btw), and Canada's environmental and labour laws. Let the whining begin.

United States is interested in one thing - protecting its own economic interests. Article -
Price of Gold is just hoofing it guys. The last I saw it was US$ 452.30. And the Canadian dolla is hanging tough around 85 cents US as well. Even silver is booting it, last price quote was US $7.69 /1000

Why would there be any confusion in the government's eye about the definition of poverty unless the purpose is to confuse and obstruct dealing with the issue as August constantly attempts to do. That way you end up talking about the definition of poverty instead of the cause and remedies of poverty. Until such time as the government is prepared to give us their benchmark we can use LICO.

The top 5% in Canada and top 1 % in the US take in one of every 2 dollars. I read this recently at another discussion forum - apparently from Stats Can & the like. It is always easy to poke holes in something when your agenda is to destroy it. There are not that many farmers and for those that are, special arrangements I presume could be arranged. Inheritance tax or close the tax loopholes. Take your pick. We should hire one of those think tanks to check it out.
-
There is a very simple solution to solving Canada's internal financial issues - let's just tithe. A 10% inheritance tax will solve our financial problems. Just cancel all other forms of taxation, and 99% of the bureaucracy that goes into collecting them. There would be an abundance for everyone. We are all good Christians here, right.

Speaking of "Buy Nothing Day' - it is tomorrow or Saturday, or maybe both. We need to make it a complete weekend so people are made to feel a bit uncomfortable with their lack of material things for a couple of days.
-
If we completely closed off all the tax shelters we would have more than enough to go around including all the government waste, whatever. We will never see the Fraser Institute or the CD Howe Instute do that kind of reasearch, will we. I wonder why! No agenda my ass! When the rich threaten to leave Canada , then grab their assets as these assets were generated from profits made on the backs of Canadian working people. People need to start looking up rather than down. Get some velcro to replace your untied shoelaces. It's time we lost our tunnel vision in this country.
-
black_dog.......what you are talking about is the myth of the US dream. This myth that if you work hard enough one day you will be like the rest of these rich people that can take advatage of these morally bankrupct tax shelters etc and avoid taxes all together. What keeps these working people hanging on is the GREED factor. Sad but true. The reality is most of them will go to their graves believing in a system that in reality is punishing them. Bullies always look to the weakest link to attack. That is why the poor, the unemployed, the sick are always systematically attacked as the parasites in society. The working stiffs don't take the time to think that they are being manipulated by the wealthy who control the mass media, and who encourage them to take their frustrations out on the poor, and governments who try and redistribute the wealth. Neat trick, eh!
-
NC....I agree about the quietness. That is why many Canadians are offended by loud-mouthed nationalists, even of the Canadian variety, although I do think it is slowly changing. Canadians are not as nationalistic say as the US citizens. Perhaps because we seem to be more international in our outlook. Part of it is because we are not a super power, I suppose. One don't get to the top of the heap unless you are very aggressive, and then of course, you want to brag about it.

Child poverty on the rise, group warns One in six children lives in poverty in Canada, and it is rising. What kind of a society are Ken Dryden and the Liberals creating for us?

Gee, I can't wait until Quebec discovers oil and gas. Quebec separatists have been described as unCanadian I reasonable description, I surmise. A lot of Albertans didn't seem to share the same values as the rest of Canada for quite some time, however now that a lot of other Canadians are moving into Alberta, Alberta values are shifting, as evidenced by the recent provincial election there.
