  1. Really? If you say so. Dunno if anyone else would say so but whatever blows your kilt up!
  2. Wouldn't have bothered me any, Star! The man is a conservative, not a Reformer!
  3. I have sympathy for her family and any friends and loved ones. I was never a fan, as an old rocker like myself would rather have sucked on the lit end of a road flare before listening to a Whitney Houston record. Still, death is always a tragedy and an early one even more so.
  4. When did Ontario reject the "too rightwing PC platform"? After Harris, I wasn't aware that they ever again presented one!
  5. I apologize for casting any slur her way. That being said, I feel you are seizing on "objectification" as a diversion. For someone in her position to be so ignorant about basic facts about her country is inexcusable! If this is the baseline of MPs in her party then they are going to be in very serious trouble by the time of the next election! I remember when Stockwell Day was campaigning in Niagara Falls. Now Stockwell is not one of my heroes by a long shot but I had to sympathize with him when leftwing critics pilloried him for being mistaken about the direction of flow of the Niagara river. It was painted as a crime against the Universe! This of course is always par for the course from the left but when a lady like this MP of their persuasion makes such an incredible gaffe it is immediately defended by diversions such as yours! CC, she should resign in shame!
  6. At least her tits are impressive! Her knowledge of her country is not!
  7. You're quite right, Angus! The "Red Tory" contingent has always been the strongest in the Ontario PC party. After the Frank Miller debacle, the only reason Mike Harris got a shot was because they were so far down in the polls nobody thought the party had a chance anyway! So he got two back to back majorities! BIG ones! Then we get Ernie Eves and the party immediately backtracked back to Red Tory territory. When Ives lost so badly, everyone trumpeted it was because of bad feeling to Harris! Maybe it was because once again the Ontario PC party chose to give the people a choice they didn't like? The idea that more Harris type government would be a failure has never actually been tested! Meanwhile, the Red Tories keep getting there way. Look how well it keeps working out!
  8. Scotty, there's an old saying: "Never attribute to malice what can adequately be explained by stupidity." I'm not at all suggesting that the moderation is stupid, at least not in intent. It's just that it can be inconsistent and unintelligent. You see, there is no formal moderation! Nobody spends their time reading threads every day, noting violations of the rules. That was announced months ago. Instead, we have informal moderators who have no real power except that of reporting to the few who actually are responsible for the site, like Charles Anthony. No doubt Charles has a life of his own and enough on his plate making a living. The same would be true of any others who share his position. So what we have is reactive moderation, rather than pro-active. Someone has to file a complaint before a warning is given. At that point, it's only human nature to deal with the immediate problem and not scroll through weeks if not months of posts to become familiar with a trend or repeated behavior. I suspect that at least part of your premise stems from what political stripe is more likely to complain about you...or anything else, for that matter!
  9. Whatever! You have the right to your opinion, the same as anyone else. That being said, if you refuse to get your kid vaccinated, then I want my kid to be nowhere near yours!
  10. So in that hypothetical restaurant, the criminal with the gun is unopposed. There is nothing to stop him. There have been cases where such criminals decided to leave no witnesses. You don't make me feel any better, Guyser!
  11. Once again, if you live long enough you get to see how the story gets changed! I graduated from grade 13 in the class of 70-71. That was also the year Mohawk College opened. The Ontario Community Colleges were just starting up. Industry was encouraged to support these colleges and they did so with much money and donated equipment. The story industry was given was that these new colleges would be training students for them! They would be taught by teachers fresh from industry! Companies would save a fortune on training costs and greatly reduced training times for new workers! Now all these years later, the same teachers are still there, teaching the young folks! They're not likely to be quite as much in touch with modern industry as they were in 70-71. Oh well, they have a good union and it looked after them! Now someone like you criticizes industry for not spending enough on training, as if the situation is all the fault of industry. Ain't it always the way!
  12. Moon, you can argue over who is right and wrong but the fact remains, if Israel truly believes that Iran is building a bomb they have no choice but to implement a first strike to try to protect themselves. Anything else would be suicide. If they actually never believed Iran were a nuclear threat then a first-strike would be war-mongering. The only way to prevent such a scenario is to convince Israel there is absolutely no threat. Remember, if you are wrong it will likely be Tel Aviv and not YOUR town that glows in the dark!
  13. Hey, don't bother trying to convince me! You've got all those Arabs to convince!
  14. I would compare Nazis with anyone who forces my children to be around unvaccinated children! Either no vaccination means your kid must be schooled at home or the government must pay for MY kids to be schooled at home! To force me to put MY children at risk over the decision of SOMEONE ELSE over a vaccination strikes me as a more close definition of fascism!
  15. Man, I wish I had your faith! Do you seriously expect that the way you see the world today is not only absolutely true but also the way it will be, forever? You realize that especially in modern times, if something does come along you get no time to build up for it! You get hit and it is over and done in a few weeks or less. Come as you are - no time to go buy some new duds! Plus what about all those "peacekeeping missions" on which we pride ourselves? We've been at the point for years now where our peacekeepers are often more poorly armed than the embattled peoples! As I said, I wish I had your faith! I also hope those of your persuasion are never in power. I have children and I would like them to have a long and safe life! If I am wrong, they can curse a small percentage of extra tax burden to pay for a military that isn't worthless. If you are wrong they might be dead!
  16. Why are you assuming that Britain was a crooked seller? You KNOW how dumb Canadian governments can be! We were the ones who bought them and then left them to rust for a couple of years in dock before we finally got off our asses to get them home. We had the opportunity to inspect them before buying and I doubt if the Brits tried to hide anything. Complicated ships like those submarines don't like to be abandoned for years with no daily routine maintenance. It's like leaving your car out in the rain and snow for a few years and then expecting it to start and be in as good shape as when you parked it. Dumb! Maybe once again, our guys were just stupid, Topaz? Did we have experienced Canadian submariners inspect them and have the final decision or was that done by typical Canadian bureaucrats and politicians, who last saw submarines as children in their own bath tubs? I'm not saying you're wrong Topaz. Just that you are quick to make an assumption. Before I did such a thing I would have googled it a bit, especially when our governments have always done things in the dumbest manner.
  17. Yeah, I thought Harper's actions are a bit revolting too, Eyeball. One positive note is that Russia and China have now both shown their true colours. I suspect that the citizens of Syria, when they have won their freedom, will remember who are their friends and who aren't. And they won't believe those who speak Chinese or Russian are their friends! No doubt the rest of the brave people of other countries in that region who are involved in the "Arab Spring" movement have also seen for themselves. China and Russia may have hurt themselves in the long run with a short term futile attempt to prop up a despot.
  18. You're right! We're too small to defeat any of the strong nations without help - but that's not the point. It's important that we can do our fair share! Otherwise, we appear to be just another deadbeat nation expecting everyone else to protect them! If we act like such then we deserve whatever happens to us!
  19. Not all, but most cops have always had more of an "us against them" or a "We're more equal than others!" attitude. To keep to the OP, I think the reason they jump all over witnesses for not coming forward is because they want to force them to make their jobs easier! They can then solve their cases and look positive about fulfilling their job. They seem blissfully unconcerned with the real-world situation in which witnesses often find themselves. They may be at risk of bodily harm or even death if they cooperate with the police! After all, citizens today have very limited ability to protect themselves from harm. Nowadays we rely almost entirely on the police. The most we can do for ourselves is to lock our doors and windows and curtail our own freedoms to go where we please by avoiding any areas where we could be targeted. Anybody who would take that risk either to themselves or their family is a fool! The risk is real and the police CAN'T protect you! Worse yet, if you try to protect yourself you are likely to be charged and face a stiffer sentence than any possible assailant! This is now so common an occurrence as to be self-evident. I MIGHT choose to be the dutiful citizen and take such risk on for myself, knowing full well that I could be dead before any police could get involved! However, there is absolutely no way I would put my daughters at risk! Although as for my ex I would have to think about it! Cop spokespeople NEVER admit to the reality of these situations! To them, it is an admission of an inability to perform their job of protecting the public - even though it's true! I'm 59 years old and have had a heart bypass operation. In any violent conflict with a younger and more fit thug wanting to deter me from testifying against him, I would last about 30 seconds! If I used a gun as an equalizer, it would be a difficult choice. Save my life now or be dragged through the courts and spend my last days in prison! Of course, I hope no one, myself included, ever has to face such a choice but sadly, its a real world, after all. In this case, cops are more concerned with keeping up appearances than with admitting their limitations. In effect, at such times they expect witnesses to commit suicide by inviting criminal retribution. One would have to be either stupid or incredibly naive to go along with them!
  20. Obviously you believe that the world is totally a safe place and that Canada will never need an effective military, or at least a military with effective materiel. Are you suggesting that unilateral disarmament makes sense? Do you expect to send Canadian troops out on UN peacekeeping missions flying economy class on commercial airlines? With their slingshots in the cargo hold? Most people disagree with you and don't see the sense of your argument. Thank the Heavens!
  21. That's fair! The other news outlets don't seem to give both sides to me either!
  22. Well, I think you should share at least SOME of the blame, Topaz! You see, the Auto Pact was a federal agreement between Canada and the USA, NOT an agreement between Ontario and Uncle Sam. So Harris COULDN'T have cancelled it! Only the Prime Minister of Canada could have done that! Surely our reporters in the news aren't that ignorant? Now, the Prime Minister of Canada at the time was Jean Chretien. It only took a moment of googling to find all this out, even if I hadn't known this before. You really should check your facts before you blame Harris. I know you hate him! Harper too! Still, those guys can't be responsible for EVERYTHING bad that happens, can they? Perhaps if you were a little less hasty...
  23. Of course they are lucky! They are modern human beings instead of next door to cave people! My ancestors used to strip down and paint their asses blue before going into battle. I do like my single malt today but I have no desire to live like my Scottish ancestors. Besides, I think I would make too big of a blue target!
  24. Yeah, and if my granny had wheels she wouldn't bump her ass when she hopped! To mix a few old sayings! You've just expressed a totally pie in the sky wish! I'd like a pony, while you're at it. Maybe a winning lottery ticket.
