  1. I never said it was going to save us from anything. I know that Harper declined; it's typical of him, isn't it?
  2. If the Amish are producing similar or higher yields than conventional farming, and conventional farming is not feeding the world, then you tell me. But whatever the case, the agricultural practices that the Amish use can be employed in parts of the world where your kind of farming cannot, which means that locals can produce more of their own food. No, I'm quite certain that they have similar or higher yields, depending on what region they are farming in. Lancaster Co., Pa. has the most productive farmland in the US, I believe. The thing is, while Amish farms tend to be small, due to their farming practices Amish farmers run profitable operations and usually are sitting on a far chunk of money because they know how to save and they haven't been trapped into modern farming practices that see farmers heavily in debt. So while you're sitting there worrying about being in "financial kaka," they're humbly going on with their lives knowing that they'll always be farming. So if I were you, I wouldn't be laughing...
  3. It's real great to see that solving the crisis will be put on hold because of a holiday tomorrow.
  4. Palin is the biggest political joke and is a perfect example of why McCain is now to senile to be president. Of course, given the recent history of voting irregularities in the US, I'm sure the Reps will manage to pull this one out of the bag, too.
  5. Does this mean that you're not "snickering" anymore, White Doors? Oh, I think it bothered you--if it didn't, you're response wouldn't be of the nature it is. But I wasn't trying to "hurt [your] feelings" because I'm not into that kind of stuff. I was just trying to make a point, one that I wouldn't have to make if you could simply discuss issues in a rational, logical manner.
  6. LOL... not! Argus, if you could raise yourself above your usually domain of petty juvenile behaviour for a moment, maybe it would occur to you that it makes sense to have the leaders of the parties discuss the issue. If only for the simple reason that it would probably ease concerns among Canadians to see that our PM can function in a non-partisan manner in difficult times that are now being referred to as "historic".
  7. The theory is that all the leaders would happen to be present for the debates, which would make coordinating the discussion easy. If by "ample time" you mean there is no crisis at the moment, most economists would probably disagree, but it's not like economists really know more than you do...
  8. Personally, I don't know what the opinion of Caledonia residents is towards McHale. But the issue here is the fact that members of SN try to cause trouble by trying to set him up (with good ol' timmer, whom you no doubt know (perhaps intimately), waiting with camera in hand). You are right, McHale can "easily blame" them because somebody always happens to have a video of McHale being set up. As for McHale being a "white supremacist," you'll have to provide some conclusive proof. Until then, your unfounded accusation constitutes libel. You'll also have to show some conclusive proof as to his views on race. Are we to assume that anytime anyone is critical of Natives collectively breaking the law, that the critic is automatically a racist? It seems to me that it's Six Nations that's playing the race card here.
  9. Yeah, the poor impoverished Noob Brunswicker wails again. Please take your meek Maritime whining somewhere else.
  10. No factual basis for your opinion means that your opinion is not based on fact.
  11. Oh, don't worry, Harper wants to lower corporate taxes, which is why we're already hovering near a deficit. $2.9 billion doesn't even buy four Globemasters nowadays, so I would hardly think that it's "too much" of a cushion.
  12. If you're suggesting that this means the surplus is going to be in the range of $8.7 billion, you've got to be joking. It just doesn't work like that.
  13. The projection--before the current economic uncertainty--was a $3.3 billion surplus, down from about $14 billion several years ago. I think $3.3 billion qualifies as "near deficit". The Cons even ran a deficit for the first two months of this fiscal year. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...me=&no_ads=
  14. Harper seems to think so, the way he was spending in the months leading up to his illegal election call. You'd think that a party that preaches fiscal responsibility would want to go into an election with a legacy of not spending Canada into a near deficit in an effort to buy votes.
  15. Oh, yeah, sure it does. Yeah, it goes right back into the economy...
  16. check again.
  17. I don't see what difference that makes. People of a certain ilk will find there way into mainstream parties and try to push their agenda that way. That's what Harper has done. That's what many western seperatists and right-wing extremists did with the PC before breaking ranks and forming the Reform Party and other more fringe parties.
  18. If this isn't blatant vote buying, I don't know what is, but it remains to be seen whether or not this $5,000 dangling carrot will have time to make an impact with just about two weeks left in the election. Some things that come to mind about the "baby bonus": 1) in a way, this is essentially paying young girls to have babies; poor girls who get pregnant because they have no other purpose in life, now have an added incentive. 2) why are "families" with incomes in the $188,000 range receiving anything at all? At most, a family should be earning $60,000 or so to qualify for a minimum $100/month. 3) Layton is insane if he thinks he can eliminate poverty by 2020, if at all. 4) Did Layton just undermine his claim to be the alternative to the Liberals?
  19. Couldn't agree with you more...
  20. It will not last, as it never does...
  21. Not really, no. I think there are several fringe parties with a nationalist/monarchist ideology that would be considered "far-right". The OVP is a centrist party, although it is classified as centre-right, these two parties therefore fall between the "far-right" and the OVP as simply right-wing parties.
  22. So, what's Clyde Powless up to these days...?
  23. People are always influenced by the media they expose themselves to. If that wasn't the case, then there wouldn't be an advertising industry.
  24. Austria held an election on Sept. 28, and two right wing parties have made significant gains of approx. 7% for each party (mail-in ballots still need to be counted). http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7639805.stm
  25. I thought of posting a link to the one about the campaign sign; I think that the most likely reason for that happening is some members of Six Nations did it as a deliberate attempt to incite controversy.
