McCain backs Khadr's return
AngusThermopyle replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I believe the point that Argus is trying to make is that severe injustices exist about which no one ever hears or really gives a Damn. When placed into perspective the perceived injustices against Khadr pail in comparison. The fact that Khadr has become something of a cause celebre amongst certain circles does not negate or mitigate these other injustices. So why waste time on this waste of skin when so many other worthy causes go unaddressed? My personal opinion is that he is scum, not someone desirable for Canada to make great efforts on behalf of. I agree with those who say send him back to Afghanistan and the Taliban he so loves. Our boys would make short work of the little tit if he was doing what he desires to do, fighting against fellow citizens.. -
Just a stab in the dark here but I think CANADIAN was being a tad sarcastic.

Seven buyers eye $2.5-million steam train
AngusThermopyle replied to Leafless's topic in Local Politics in Canada
Actually if you learn about what happens in the patch you'll find that it is very very far from being simple. This is one of the major reasons that the patch sat untouched for so long. It was believed to be far too difficult to extract the oil so no one bothered. It's only in fairly recent times that we've developed the technology and methodology that allow the sands to be developed. The majority of manufacturing is in fact easier and simpler than tar sands extraction. When one considers the northern location of the patch and the climactic challenges presented by this location the difficulty factor increases dramatically. -
Now this I find very hard to believe. As has been mentioned by Alta4ever, around these parts the farmers would string every member of the Wheat Board up from the nearest tree given the chance. Polls are really not all that usefull as they can be manipulated through various means to produce the results required by those commissioning the poll.

Don't hold your breath waiting for that one. Keep in mind that although electric cars are fine for city dwelling folk they just don't cut the mustard in many agricultural/industrial applications. It'll be a long time before they can produce electric trucks that will compete with the ones we use in my line of work. You need that big engine when you're towing 45' Skyreach lifts or Bobcats and Mini Hoe's. Farmers also depend heavily on the good old Diesel. Then you have the haulage industry, electric cant do the trick for them yet either.

Apologise for yourself eyeball, don't be so presumptuous as to apologize for me. As regards the laws of the land, I offer no apologies. Just because you are the exception who feels some should be exempt from the law does not mean that all share your warped viewpoint. As for revolution, well have you ever been present during one? No doubt you haven't, otherwise you would not so glibly cheer the concept on as you would understand the huge loss of life that accompanies revolutions. Somehow I doubt you would be at the forefront of the throng fighting to overthrow what you percieve to be injustice. As such your former statements are nothing more than the idle prattle of a juvenile and undeveloped mind. Although I believe the apology and compensation are good things this does not mean that I believe Natives should be allowed to dismiss and disregard the law whenever it suits them. What is interesting is the fact that many times in the past you have used the law as justification for your arguments yet in this case you are saying the law should be ignored. Are you always so confused? Yes, Dancer is correct, CR has no credibility as they constantly contradict themselves all the while fabricating facts. As I said in another thread, they are not worth noting since everything they post is just so much BS.
-
I stand corrected, thank you. However that does not negate the previous scores of inconsistencies in your statements. therefore, I regret to say that I still think you're full of shit.

You're right, that is the question, the big one. If I recall correctly they discovered substantial diamond deposits in Nunavut but the companies that discovered them and wanted to develop them pulled out. As I remember the demands being made were too unreasonable and in effect the companies would have been expending their resources for a very minimal return. In effect they would have been more like empoyee's of Nunavut and be paid a triffling amount in comparison to what they expected to produce. That could have made a 100% difference if not for unreasonable demands being made upon these companies. Nunavut certainly would not be in a situation now where they have to demand more from the Feds.
-
Who? Chuck Norris? Nunavut is hardly what I would call a stirring success story, in fact it's quite the opposite. The majority of the people are government employee's and don't actually produce anything. This is one of the reasons they are facing large budget shortfalls and are demanding that the Federal government make up the difference. Unless you consider non viable states to be success stories that is.

This is unusual, but not unexpected. Many times in the past on this forum you have claimed that you are not Native. The above statement would appear to make a lie of your claims. this is why I regard anything you have to say as being nothing more than sheer unmitigated bull shit. I've noted far too many contradictions in your statements to take anything you say with more than a grain of salt. Sucks when you lie and then forget what you've lied about doesn't it, Shakespear nailed that one on the head for sure.

Dion's "Liberal Green Shift" carbon tax Plan
AngusThermopyle replied to madmax's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If being the key word. Liberals are good at taxing and taking, not so good at giving back. -
That being the case it merely serves to illustrate why anything declared by the U.N. should be flushed down the toilet without consideration. Whats next? will they declare a lack of manners to be genocide? They are so irrelevant as to be no more than a very bad joke. A good method for the eradication of poverty in Canada is called a job. If you need more skills then aquire them. There are many programs and systems of grants in place already to do exactly this. Or is the contention that people who do not wish to work or better themselves should be entitled to a better life anyway? Personally I disagree. If someone is not willing to do what it takes to improve their lot in life then they deserve exactly what they get.

So far it would appear from this thread alone that some are more interested in this apology as a source of political ammunition than as an act that can generate some good. The previous poster for instance appears to care little for the apology and merely focuses on the sitting government in a negative way, even though they are doing more for natives than any other government has to date. This is exactly the sort of behaviour I was alluding to in the opening post. Those who would take advantage of the situation to further their own agenda or goals at the expense of this event. One has to wonder at the cynicism of such people, that they will sieze upon any moment for their own advantage.

Since no one else has restarted the thread yet and it was a good discussion, here we go again. I'll kick it off by saying that I think it was a good action, even if many regard it as symbolic. I also believe that compensation for those who were abused is warranted. The only problem I have with it is the potential for abuse, and abuse of this event will happen, thats a given, human nature being what it is. The potential for fraudulent claims and exagerrated claims is huge and already there are rumblings of "not enough" In my opinion this cheapens the whole act and is hardly what one would consider as respectfull to those who were abused. For example, the unrealistic numbers that continue to be bandied about. If one has a memory longer than that of the average fruit fly one will realise that many of the numbers commonly tossed about just do not match the reality of what is known for sure. If this moment is used as a "jumping off point" for the advancement of Native self responsibility and reliance then it will have been worth ten times its actual cost. However if it is merely used opportunistically in order to leverage more concesions and advantages, then it merely becomes cheap sordid and trashy. Those are the kinds of behaviour that, in my opinion. will cheapen this sober and solemn moment. Okay folks, now take it away.

Native Canadians in Canada
AngusThermopyle replied to crybabykm's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Oh great, another loonie who's hung up on skin colour. You guys have to get past your racism and look beyond the colour of another persons skin to see the person who is actually there. -
Native Canadians in Canada
AngusThermopyle replied to crybabykm's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Oh, you mean authentic history like the claim made on these forums that Natives actually invented the wheel but saw no use for it, or that they all lived in perfect harmony with no war or strife? That kind of authentic history? -

Native Canadians in Canada
AngusThermopyle replied to crybabykm's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I think you have to clarify exactly what it is that you are asking. You started the thread by asking "Native Canadians, in or out". What exactly are you asking with the "in or out" bit? You then asked this one: The answer to that is simple, of course I believe in them. I see them every day, it's hard not to believe in whats in front of your face on a daily basis. Or are you asking whether we believe in the potential or "good nature" of native Canadians? If you could be a little more clear and less obscure in the questions you pose you might get answers more suitable to your initial questions. -

Classic. I wonder if he actually listens to, and likes Zappa or was it just picking quotes he thought would make his point? Another favourite of mine is Crew Slut, also Flakes. Can`t forget Flakes. -
Oh, about 70,000 plus, at least.

Native Canadians in Canada
AngusThermopyle replied to crybabykm's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I'm back. So you're saying that you judge people by their skin colour? Not me, I'm an equal opportunity sort of guy. As far as I'm concerned a bum is a bum is a bum and the colour of their skin makes not one whit of difference. As for the word Native, look it up. You may wish to revise the definition to suit your sentiments but I seriously doubt Websters et al will give a damn about what you wish. DOP is correct in his usage, your usage is incorrect, end of story. -

Evidence of what? That you appear to be someone I would not tolerate in person for even a brief moment. Don't need any, I guess you'll just have to suck it up sunshine. Now if you'll excuse me I have to "skulk" off to a meeting. -

Sensitive aren't you. I never realized that logging off could be considered as "skulking". So, not only are you sensitive but it would appear you are somewhat of a drama queen, well, takes all types I guess. -
Canada on Mars
AngusThermopyle replied to bush_cheney2004's topic in Canada / United States Relations
I've often wondered why quite a few people are so reluctant to accept the fact that mankind has become a space traveling species? Personally I find it to be a wonderfull thing and very exciting. It is the future of mankind after all.
