Dion's "Liberal Green Shift" carbon tax Plan
AngusThermopyle replied to madmax's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
And therein lies the problem. Dion didn't think, at least not in a rational way. He was simply looking for something that would grant him some credibility and a little political leverage. Unfortunately the banner has been taken up by a certain segment of the population and now we have another holy grail for them to hold sacred, sorta like the gun registry, useless and stupid but held as sacred by many of the sheep. So now this certain segment of the population can feel free to denounce anyone who raises legitimate concerns with this Willy Wonka idea as being "anti-environment". Its an old tune but some people never get tired of hearing it. -
Oh yeah! Well how about "a bunch" and "quite peeved" then.

Which are your political leanings?
AngusThermopyle replied to Qwerty's topic in Political Philosophy
It goes against the grain, I know, but I've never been able to stand that song. In fact, even though I like the Beatles, I've never been able to stand John Lennon and his sanctimonious, preachy crap. When he hooked up with Yoko that was the last straw for me, though I will admit that I cant stand her even more than John, by a factor of about ten. Could that possibly be why they did so well. -
Does Canada really want Canadians to have families?
AngusThermopyle replied to Leafless's topic in Political Philosophy
That was an interesting article. it actually strikes a chord with me as I lived in the vicinity of the GTA area for a number of years and that fact was instrumental in my decision to move to Southern Alberta. Perhaps I'm unfairly biased in my view but I simply can not stand Toronto or the surrounding areas such as Richmond Hill, Markham, etc. etc. Just one giant mess of concrete and people all crammed together. However the article is still speculative as its based on a perceived reality that in fact is forecast for a time 12 years from now. That is not to say that it is impossible, or even improbable for that matter, however one can not discount the possibility of a signal shift in demographics over such a period of time. Still, in all likely hood what is forecast may very well come to be. I'm so very happy that I chose not to live in a major urban area. I like walking down the street and seeing rolling prairies rising into the foothills and mountains, its much much nicer than some crap condo development or strip mall. -

That being the case we know of one group the future most definitely will not belong to then. There you go CR, I set you up for an easy and glib answer, don't disappoint me now. Just stay in character and all will be good and proper with the world. -

Darn! There I was thinking the title was actually directed at "those" people. -
Quebec group requests French citizenship
AngusThermopyle replied to Leafless's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Sure sure, it would be so much better if it had all been French, right. I guess there were never any "supremacist troublemakers" amongst the French, right. What a bonehead. -

Those were very interesting articles Bambino. Of particular interest was a link in the first one that lead to an article titled "The Renaissance Of Anti-intellectualism", fascinating reading and sadly to say, very true. It's a lengthy article but well worth the read. It may be of interest to you in particular AW as it does tend to reinforce some of the observations you have made in the past. Well Worth The Read I almost forgot to mention. This is not a uniquely American problem, in fact its a very old problem. For the most part those of greater intellectual ability have generally been ridiculed by the masses and the preference for simpler answers has been deemed desirable. Often I have been quite mortified by the state of general ignorance people prefer to exist in. More than once I have been amazed when teenage kids have admitted that they don't know such basic things as the location of the African continent or what WWII was. As I said, not a uniquely American problem. -

Electric is fine for small vehicles however horsepower is not tourque. Generally electric motors produce some pretty impresive tourque, at the expense of heat generation. For the average vehicle they may be just fine but certain applications require tourque not horsepower. As such one must consider the cooling system and battery capacity, can they be applied in a practical way when it comes to high tourque applications? Now one could point to diesel electric locomotives as an example of high tourque electric applications as possibly applied to automobiles. What one must keep in mind though is the fact that the diesel in a locomotive does not charge batteries to run the motors, it drives a high output generator which in turn supplies the motors. An automobile does not have the luxury of the space availlable in a locomotive for all these systems and their associated cooling aparatus. I for one am all for alternate power vehicles but I still have my doubts as to their real world practicality in high tourque/load applications. -
Alberta's record tarnished, Dion says
AngusThermopyle replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Wow Drea! That was quite the tirade. I can guarantee they were smoking weed in Alberta back in 05. Albertans for the most part are no different than any other Canadian in any other Province. Why the attempt to denigrate and demonize Albertans? As I've mentioned before they are for the most part hard working people who hold strong family values, even most of the ones who smoke weed. Do you honestly believe that there is any such thing as a weed free Province in Canada? Or is it just that people in BC can not conceive of any one any where else smoking weed? -
Ahh! Myata, good to see you're back with the usual irrelevancies. Can you perhaps show what major achievements have been made that trump everything done by the Conservatives rather than just blindly denying everything? Perhaps you can explain how Dion or Layton would be a better fit for Canada, how they would improve our lives through increased taxation and government waste?
-
Actually Harper does comport himself well on the world stage, unlike others such as Trudeau who never missed an opportunity to act like a clown in public, or Chretien with his white trash demenour. Perhaps Martin was better with his air of irrlevancy and total lack of presence. He has reuced taxes, that can not be denied, he has spent, sure, but at least he's spending on things that actually matter, no long gun registries or mysteriously lost billions. He doesn't just jump on the Kyoto bandwagon or babble endlessly about how popular increasing taxes will be and he has put Canada back into a very real role in G8 affairs, something the Liberals did not do. In fact they did the opposite, made canada so irrelevant as to be largely disregarded by other developed nations. Credit must be given where credit is due, in this case it is due and only the most rabidly blind would deny it. Given the options availlable Harper would get my vote without hesitation. No credible alternative exists, certainly not Dion with his yapping nonesense or Layton with his overt political opportunism.

Alberta's record tarnished, Dion says
AngusThermopyle replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I havent seen anyone make a fuss about it here in Southern Alberta either. People smoke in their back yards, walking down alleys, even walking down the sidewalk upon occasion, no one runs screaming to the cops. A lot of simplistic stereotypes being bandied around in this thread, its actually funny when one considers the obvious lack of knowledge being displayed by those making such claims and promoting such stereotypes. -
Alberta's record tarnished, Dion says
AngusThermopyle replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'm sure he's not. Its just a rather feeble attempt to insult Alberta and Albertans. Nothing scarier than a bunch of people who believe strongly in hard work and family values. -

AngusThermopyle replied to geoffrey's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Bullshit. You have not provided one scrap of proof, as usual. You provided no links, no company names, no names of banks, etc. etc. All you do is make crap up and expect people to say "oh, how wise and irrefutable". There is no point to discussing anything with a pathological lier. So I'm done with you, you have zero credibility and are simply too dense to realise it. Even when caught in a lie you simply disregard it and keep chugging right along with more of the same. You should consider professional help with your problem. -
Native Canadians in Canada
AngusThermopyle replied to crybabykm's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Well, isn't this interesting. On the one hand you claim that you have the truth as written in your "book". On the other hand you condemn people for reading, you got it, books. Are you always this confused? The reason that I for one will not read your "book" is because I've seen the spew you spout here, why would I waste my time and money to read a collection of your spew? -

AngusThermopyle replied to geoffrey's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Once again I have to thank you. Your response is so juvenile and mindless that it says more than I ever could. Typical of you actually, this is one reason why you are irrelevant and will remain so for the foreseeable future. Here's a tip, if you wish to be taken seriously you should actually cultivate a working mentality and say goodbye to lies. You challenge no myths, you simply spout your own, rather simplistic and basic actually. You offer no proof, no facts, just your own opinion (ill founded at best). By the way, I do not own or use a beretta, the .45 S&W is a far superior weapon that just feels better to fire. Once more you have simply illustrated your ignorance by way of your mouth, would you care to stick your foot in it once again.
