  1. There's another possible scenario to consider.. https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/why-did-wynne-say-she-won-t-be-ontario-s-premier-1.3956896 Wynne and her team are savvy politicians and tacticians. It won't take them too many years to get that party back in the running.
  2. You contradict yourself. On one hand you say that Trump only cares for Trump. Then, you say his decisions are based in order to play to his base. How can he act strictly for himself while at the same time acting to please his base?
  3. Trump came in as POTUS with no experience as a politician and is trying to find his footing in politics. IMO he's still in the "trial and error" phase. I'm well aware that a grave miscalculation on his part could have disastrous consequences. As I said elsewhere there are safeguards in the US Constitution to protect against such actions. I concede he is puffing his chest out to convey a sign of strength. Yet, I think he believes that doing so will send out a signal that he will act in the best interest of the US come hell or high water. But to put him in the same category as the villains you did is over the top and I flatly disagree with that.
  4. To be honest, I fail to see how invoking Hitler, Mussolini, Putin, Erdogan and Duterte advances your opinion on this issue.
  5. Jake Tapper on CNN just referred to Justin as Pierre Trudeau. Cant' get rid of that ghost.

Wow....I knew it would happen sooner or later.   Lets nationalize a pipeline !

  6. What's to say those jobs would disappear without NAFTA or other trade deals? Are you saying the flow of those goods would be lost due to resulting excise and other taxes?
  7. Looks like the Liberals were not paying attention when Trumps was elected POTUS. One of his main platform planks was "making America great again". He railed against the decline of US manufacturing and how other nations were taking advantage of trade deals that weaken that sector. His message was loud and clear. A country like Canada cannot possibly expect to bring the US to its knees on trade just with tough words or retaliation. I'm not a diplomat or a negotiator and I don't know what would work. Obviously the Liberals don't know either.
  8. That is disgusting on so many levels. The red colour leaking from the poppy is symbolic of our soldiers bleeding and dying on the battlefield. I'm livid.
  9. Candidate nominations closed a couple of weeks age so too late to replace them on the ballot. If she boots them those ridings would not have a NDP candidate. The only other reason I can think of is that she approves of the actions of those candidates.
  10. https://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/horwath-defends-activist-candidates-says-people-do-radical-things-for-change-1.3953410 So, Horwath thinks it's OK to break the law to make a point and to advance your agenda. I now know why one of her candidates has disdain for the cops. Great.
  11. Some of the comments made by Andrew Scheer, Conservative party leader, mirror some of the thoughts expressed on this board. https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/if-you-re-buying-trans-mountain-where-s-your-backing-for-energy-east-raitt-1.3952235
  12. In terms of whether the Liberals will be negatively impacted in the polls over the nationalization of the pipeline I say not at all. In fact, the opposite might be true. "Oh look, Justin and the Liberals are so concerned about protecting Canadian natural resources they bought an oil pipeline." And the sentiment might be even stronger in some parts of the country since Kinder Morgan is an American company. "Way to stick it to the Yanks." From an economic viewpoint it is not a good decision because had the Liberals made sure the rule of law was respected on the ground, not one penny of taxpayers' money would have been needed to build the Trans Mountain extension. Bottom line the Liberals did not have the balls to stand up to the BC government and protesters who now see the feds as wimps and easy to beat down. Opposition and protests against the project will therefore increase and it is doubtful the extension will ever be built. Billions will be paid by the Canadian taxpayers, never to be recouped. Then, there is the impact on Canada's reputation as a place to invest. A country that nationalizes companies, businesses or national resources sends out the signal that it is not guaranteed that private enterprise will flourish in such a climate. Best to invest your money elsewhere. Of course, I hope I'm wrong on all counts and that all will end well and we will have dodged a bullet. Yet, looking at what has happened in Cuba and Venezuela following their tendency to nationalize everything in sight, I am left with a queasy feeling.

Another upstanding and star NDP candidate, brother of the Federal NDP leader Jagmeet Singh. Horwarth says she stands by her candidate who has since revised his opinion of law enforcement officers.

If Trudeau had done his job as PM in the first place that would have made people happy.

You're saying it's a good plan that should have been implemented sooner?

    4. AngusThermopyle

      AngusThermopyle

Quite the opposite. If Trudeau hadn't tried to play all sides and had just done his job, assisting KM as needed, it wouldn't have cost us anything. Instead he played obstructionist games by changing the regulations at least once. Further to that he turned a blind eye to unlawful protests and sabotage. Then when KM tired of his stupid games and said they were walking away from the project he decided to throw money at it to save himself. This will end up costing us a lot of money and it's not sure if it will even be built at all. He screwed up this file from A to Z, and he did it on purpose. It's almost reminiscent of the whole Ontario gas plant scandal. You can take a child's route and attempt to rationalize his behaviour all you want, but  it wont change the cold hard facts of the situation and it wont change the fact that people know just how badly he screwed this up.

  16. I would think quite a few well educated business owners and entrepreneurs were also listening.
  17. I just found it rather comical.
  18. Yes, I think Ford's inexperience in such debates was apparent. However, he did manage to speak to audience in a way that they could understand. On the matter of a costed platform, it's not easy putting one together when you haven't seen the books. And knowing the creative accounting the Liberals have perfected, no doubt it's one big mess.
  19. Too funny. Horwath was at an event this morning. A Liberal, the riding incumbent, showed up with his election sign and with a couple of supporters. He heckled Horwath. She said to him "Don't interrupt me, it's very rude." Now, if you listened to the debate you would know that she constantly interrupted the other two leaders. So for Horwath, it's rude to interrupt her. But if she's the one doing the interrupting, it's OK.
  20. The US has enough checks and balances in its system to guard against a President taking actions against the best interests of their country. You may now get out from under the bed, no harm will come to you.
  21. And I'm reminded again that some Canadians can't debate Canadian politics without resorting to comparisons with the US.
  22. Maybe. And if the NDP does win a majority, it will be fun watching them try to clean up the financial mess that the Liberals left behind. I mean, Horwath will have a tough time finding a competent Cabinet with the bunch of inexperienced radicals that end up in the Legislature. As Horwath said it will be necessary to hold training courses to prepare them for the business of governance.
  23. Other factors are that disenchanted Liberal voters decide to move to the NDP, or simply stay home.
  24. Amazon to open massive distribution centre in Ottawa. Are they nuts? Six months of an NDP government and hydro rates will chase them out of Ontario.

Amazon didn't confirm.  Why? I think they're waiting to see who'll win the election.

If Horwath wins - I bet it'll be bye-bye Amazon.

In a statement, Amazon did not confirm its plans.

“Amazon is constantly investigating new locations to support the growth and increase the flexibility of its North American network to address customers’ needs,” spokeswoman Shevaun Brown said in an email.

“Amazon is not yet commenting on any specific plans in Ottawa.”
