And yet if someone were to post Abu Hamza's preachings as the definitive word, you would be the first to cry foul. Reciprocity. marcinmoka: the entire quote, which you 'conveniently' shortened went like this "He is one person, but he is a Rabbi, equivalant as a religious leader to an Imam (Islam)or a priest or pastor.( Christianity) Therefore he represents at least a version or ideology ,his "brand" of religion adheres to , fundamentalist, progressive, whatever." making it quite clear he does NOT represent all of Judaism. Here's more of what I said.... "Cause we wouldn't want to say sexism is only rampant in evangelical Christians or in Fundamentalist Islam.???" did you actually read it? or my comment here: I abhor sexism no matter what religion espouses it. Did I say anywhere this guy is the 'definitive word' personally, IMO, he is just another sexist male, and fundamentalist religions of all stripes are full of them. I love how you write, half-truths , aspersions and assumptions. Your good at it, do you get paid for it, curious as a day job? Anyone can come along and read what is ACTUALLY written, you do realize that?

Yah, cause targeting children is never done in warfare, (facetious sarcasm) It is a tactic of demoralization. -
Now if you read the entire article, you will see , it is not entirely shared by all. He is one person, but he is a Rabbi, equivalant as a religious leader to an Imam (Islam)or a priest or pastor.( Christianity) Therefore he represents at least a version or ideology ,his "brand" of religion adheres to , fundamentalist, progressive, whatever. I didn't Melanie read my opening comment, I made it clear to what I was referring to! I abhor sexism no matter what religion espouses it.

http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid...icle%2FShowFull Cause we wouldn't want to say sexism is only rampant in evangelical Christians or in Fundamentalist Islam.??? Rabbi Ovadia: 'Women should stick to cooking, sewing' Women should make hamin and not deal with matters of Torah," the spiritual leader of Shas, Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, said in a speech to supporters on Saturday night. Yosef made the statement in the context of a major Halachic campaign he is currently engaged in as to when women should recite the blessing over the Shabbat candles. Many prominent Ashkenazi rabbis, along with a few Sephardic sources, have ruled that women should say the blessing after lighting the candles. However, according to Yosef, the blessings should be said before the candles have been kindled, similar to other blessings. Yosef blasted the opposing view, saying it was based on the opinion of "a few stupid women. A woman's knowledge is only in sewing," he ridiculed. "Women should find other jobs and make hamin (cholent) but not deal with matters of Torah." Nope, alive and well in Judaism also! Aah religion, when, will it actually be tolerant and inclusive!

FascistLibertarian' That is so true! This also is true! My concern is with the political clout this group wields, anti-peace/pro-war in the ME, extreme hatred of Muslims, etc., I can't see any good of an extremist agenda, yielding political power, to bring about, a result only they desire. That and the fact, I just can't figure out why they buy so much "rapture" junk? It makes zero sense. I mean a fool and his money will soon go separate ways, and, if they want to waste money so be it! Makes'em look even more foolish, then they already make themselves look (see video) But I just can't grasp the concept of it. -
interesting article. To clarify, let's not lump all "Canucks" and "Yanks" into one group. This Canuck, thinks iraq, Afghanistan and Serbia were crocks of doodoo I din't support any of this garbage, and I DO NOT want to pay for it. No sense throwing good money after bad, and all bad, all pointless. I am completely aware, from the Americans I know that, all Americans did NOT support the attack on Iraq, I think the gungho, should pay for it! back to the American taxpayer dollars, and it is unfortunate, the war has cost them this much, and that the Bush junta grossly misrepresented, oh I mean, lied, again, about that!

Hey Topaz! This stories for you, another BinLaden is dead story FoxNews , no less! http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,41576,00.html Usama bin Laden has died a peaceful death due to an untreated lung complication, the Pakistan Observer reported, citing a Taliban leader who allegedly attended the funeral of the Al Qaeda leader. "The Coalition troops are engaged in a mad search operation but they would never be able to fulfill their cherished goal of getting Usama alive or dead," the source said. Bin Laden, according to the source, was suffering from a serious lung complication and succumbed to the disease in mid-December, in the vicinity of the Tora Bora mountains. The source claimed that bin Laden was laid to rest honorably in his last abode and his grave was made as per his Wahabi belief. About 30 close associates of bin Laden in Al Qaeda, including his most trusted and personal bodyguards, his family members and some "Taliban friends," attended the funeral rites. A volley of bullets was also fired to pay final tribute to the "great leader." Is it live or is it memorex?

Are most religions conservative, I don't think so, but since we are speaking of the Fundamentalist Evangelical Rapture Ready crowd specifically. I am going with that. The author who has studied this group thinks they have been hijacked into conservatism for political reasons, I tend to agree. Religious "leaders" dragging there followers, and being coopted or cooperating or succumbing to specific political agenda's for the benefit of some, is nothing new. It's just a dam shame no one has learned from previous mistakes. WRT the excessive rapture ready products??? Isn't it foolish to buy all this junk if you really believe the end is nigh? isn't it hypocritical for all these religious marketers to promote this junk if the end is nigh? The scam factor in the whole thing should be a bloody embarrasment to these people, but it's not! It makes me think of this "there is a sucker born every minute", and they are all in this group of christians, buying there, (likely made in china) junk, for the end times, when if the end times are coming, why do you need all that junk. Are they all going to wear there "rapture ready" tee's and hats, when Jesus comes? -
This was why I took exception to this article, half-truths, stereotypes and worse. Yes, there are criminals and nutjobs in Islam, as there are in any other religion. BUT, when one see's a half-baked article such as this, one notes the sheer level of BS in it. It has to be condemned for what it is , an attempt to stir, hatred, fear and contempt for no rational reason. I had to laugh at even the part, that is allegedly the demonstration of Islam's violence "book burning" or so he says. What we have seen no other religions do and promote that???? LOL! So these other religions would logically be equally violent, right? Not according to Hitchens. The entire article is garbage.

disgusted christian, is the more accurate description. I was raised Roman Catholic and attended Catholic school, ya know the kind that have saint's names?? lol! Overall I am entirely disgusted with alot of religious "going's on" MY disgust at these "christians" is IMO, don't get offended, they are more reminiscent of "satanists" then christians, striving for war, instead of peace, division instead of cohesion. Working towards a goal of there own selfish, sick beliefs as opposed to more traditional christian activities. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5502785 Interesting book and the author says: Evangelical: Religious Right Has Distorted the Faith Listen to this story... by Linda Wertheimer Scroll down to read an excerpt from Thy Kingdom Come: An Evangelical's Lament. Randall Balmer has written several books. He says he expects his latest to get him in a fair amount of trouble with the evangelical community. "I don't find much that I recognize as Christian" in the religious right, says Balmer, a professor of religion at Barnard College, Columbia University and contributing editor to Christianity Today. "They have taken something that is lovely and redemptive and turned it into something that is ugly and retributive," Balmer says. He argues that modern evangelicals have abandoned the spirit of their movement, which was founded in 19th-century activism on issues that helped those on the fringes of society: abolition, women's suffrage and universal education. "I don't find any correlation in the agenda of the religious right today," Balmer says. There is an interesting excerpt from the book there about the religious right/political cojoinment. -
cybercoma: I have read the article and I will discuss it, at length, as I sip tea! "Why are we so scared of offending Muslims?" are we? I see absolutely ZERO indication of that. At large, we see Muslims, rounded up, subjected to hate crimes, abused in public by other citizens, and take a good look around this forum. I see very offensive aspersions made regularily. I am afraid once Hitchens set's up his false premise, he has to go into some weird claims to back it up. Including laying out the conditions HE deems necessary for Muslims: "Unless I am wrong, a sincere Muslim need only affirm that there is one god, and only one, and that the Prophet Mohammed was his messenger, bringing thereby the final words of God to humanity. Certain practices are supposed to follow this affirmation, including a commitment to pray five times a day, a promise to pay a visit to Mecca if such a trip should be possible, fasting during Ramadan, and a pious vow to give alms to the needy." Is that all there is to being a Muslim? Did he ask a Muslim? He gives ZERO indication of that. Then he goes on with a condemnation of there Faith![/ b] "Thus, Islamic belief, however simply or modestly it may be stated, is an extreme position to begin with. " WOW, he's not worried about making offensive assertions, is he? Then he redeems himself a bit, a show of balance, by including christians (meh) "No human being can possibly claim to know that there is a God at all, .... (I hasten to add that those who boast of knowing about Moses parting the Red Sea, or about a virgin with a huge tummy, are in exactly the same position.) OK, following along with me? But then , after saying that he goes right off on a tangent: "Why, then, should we be commanded to "respect" those who insist that they alone know something that is both unknowable and unfalsifiable? Something, furthermore, that can turn in an instant into a license for murder and rape?" setting up a false premise, who is "commanding' us to respect "those who insist that they alone know something that is both unknowable and unfalsifiable"? " This could as equally apply to christianity or Judaism or any other religions, but who does he apply it to? Islam. Then he goes on with this... "that can turn in an instant into a license for murder and rape?" really, So it's just Muslims that murder and rape. He ain't worried about the insult there. Nor the untruth in that statement Then he goes on with the news story which he provides a link to, but does anyone check it? I did. He say's and I quote" "Before me is a recent report that a student at Pace University in New York City has been arrested for a hate crime in consequence of an alleged dumping of the Quran." The he goes on with his story about throwing his bible out the window, it's colourful, but does he really or is he just telling us a nice story, I am going for a nice story as it fits this article thus far." Now here's the story: "the Islamic holy book was found in a toilet at Pace's lower Manhattan campus by a teacher on Oct. 13. A student discovered another book in a toilet on Nov. 21, police said. Muslim activists had called on Pace University to crack down on hate crimes after the incidents. As a result, the university said it would offer sensitivity training to its students. The school was accused by Muslim students of not taking the incident seriously enough at first. Pace classified the first desecration of the holy book as an act of vandalism, but university officials later reversed themselves and referred the incident to the New York Police Department's hate crimes unit. The incidents came amid a spate of vandalism cases with religious or racial overtones at the school. In an earlier incident on Sept. 21, the school reported another copy of the Quran was found in a library toilet, and in October someone scrawled racial slurs on a student's car at the Westchester County satellite campus and on a bathroom wall at the campus in lower Manhattan. Police did not connect Shmulevich to those incidents." Ok, I'll continue>>> So this is actually the second time, the Quran has been put in the toilet and there have been numerous incidents of racial slurs etc., How can the University allow this kind of stuff to go on? it can't. BUT, I note again, WOW, again, NO worries about offending Muslims in any of that eh??? numerous incidents of racial slurs and 2 Qurans in the toilet doesn't indicate to me in any way shape or form, that , there is much fear in offending Muslims, None at all! In fact it looks like offending Muslims is exactly what is going on and intentionally. So, unless Hitchens is saying that these people should be subjected to racist slurs, remarks and abuses on a regular basis, I do not understand why he is making an issue out of this? No one should be subjected to this. Then he dredges up all kinds of old news, regurgitated fear of Sharia, don't get where that is coming from in relation to this article. EXCEPT, for this. This article was written to 'stir the pot'. 'fan the flames' and Hitchens is good at it, don't get me wrong. He puts every bit of fearmongering he can muster into it. BUT, the last thing he worries about is offending Muslims, or he wouldn't have wrote what is a piece of garbage, with half-truths, misrepresentations, and every emotional, fear inducing tactic he could use. Hitchens long ago lost credibility as a serious journalist.

Bill C: hello, is there any website, that has all this information orgainized to look through and is there any actions being taken, petition etc.,. I did start to look through all this, but, it's a bit tedious. My spouse and brother-in-law, would be most interested in the information, as they have both taken issue, with the fact , they cannot access THEIR OWN MONEY!!! Though they have some years still till retirement, They both are of the mind that, this type of "control" is not necessary. If you could point me in a direction to get the info, it would be much appreciated. Thanks! kuzadd -
Why should we have diaper changing stations? Why should we have facilities for nursing mother's Why have handicapped parking? Why have clubs for anyone as some other poster said? All those things will send us down a slippery slope of "us" having to accomodate "them"?? I mean handicapped parking, means some of us can't park so close, to the shopping mall. Nursing stations/diaper changing for mothers, means some space that should have been "ours" was alloted to a "special interest group." I guess clubs should only be provided for the "accepted" ones. This is as this poster said, alot of hulabaloo about nothing! So they provide him with a safe place to wash his feet, rather then have him injure himself, and sue them for the injuries. wow! How "outrageous".

Charges stayed for youths in homegrown terror case
kuzadd replied to kuzadd's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
http://www.thestar.com/article/228636 Witness denies assault claim Mubin Shaikh, informant in upcoming terror case, is facing charges in unrelated dispute with 2 girls "The star witness in Toronto's biggest terrorism case denied terrorizing two 12-year-old girls in a separate incident that brought him to court yesterday afternoon. Mubin Shaikh, known for infiltrating the alleged cell of 18 suspects, said the girls taunted him with religious and ethnic slurs as he sat in a van on April 3. "She said, `Look look look, it's bin Laden, it's Taliban boy, it's Taliban boy,'" said Shaikh, who faces two counts of assault and one count of threatening bodily harm. He was in provincial court to schedule his next appearance – July 6. The charges stem from a bizarre encounter between Shaikh and two students from Kane Middle School, near Keele St. and Eglinton Ave. W. Police say two girls were returning to class after lunch when Shaikh accused the duo of skipping class. An argument ensued. Shaikh got out and allegedly bumped one girl in the chest and pushed her to the ground. According to police, he then said, "Do you know who I am? I'm going to chop off your legs." The other girl yelled at Shaikh to leave her friend alone and Shaikh allegedly grabbed that girl by the jacket and threw her to the ground. When a group of male students intervened, Shaikh allegedly ripped off his top, threw it to the ground and challenged them to take him on. Police say he then drove off erratically. He was arrested nearby." Why would csis have recruited such a person??? -
http://www.thestar.com/News/GTA/article/241957 Can't say I am surprised, and there will be more "stays" "Charges against two more of the youths arrested last summer in a massive police sweep were stayed in court yesterday, after each signed the first peace bonds for terrorism-related offences in Canada. "It's finally done," said one of the teens at the Brampton courthouse after signing the bond, which imposes various restrictions on him for up to one year. "I can't describe in words how (the past year) was," said the 18-year-old, who's been under house arrest for nearly a year and says he has suffered from anxiety, depression and insomnia. Although he's whiled away much of that time sleeping, playing video games and watching his big-screen TV – pastimes some may envy – all he's wanted is his freedom and the chance to step beyond his driveway without a parental escort. "But what counts is (the Crown) realized their mistake. They arrested too many people at the same time," he said, shaking his head. "This shows they cared. They looked into the case properly." The stay in proceedings against the youths – the other is now 19 – marks another setback in the government's landmark case. Earlier this year, charges were stayed against another youth. Yesterday, prosecutors declined to speak with reporters about the case as they left the courtroom. At stake is the reputation of Canada's spy service and federal police force, particularly since news of the alleged homegrown terrorism cell garnered international headlines last summer, when 14 adults and four youths were charged. The alleged cell was accused of plotting to bomb various targets in Ontario." The crown has some serious credibility issues with the Iman, they (CSIS)had "recruited" to run this "dog and pony show"

Which IMO demonstrates her as corrupt or corruptable. going back to what I have read of her, she didn't provide any in her time of rule, what would be expected to change, once she is beholding to the west? What I find interesting about this group of "christians" besides these crazy beliefs and there reward aspirations, EXACTLY like extremist Muslims. The mass marketing! This is not a quirk of Islam, to my knowledge. The sheer amount of garbage marketed and BOUGHT by these people is unbelievable.! Why if you believe the "end times" are nigh, would all this junk be marketed and why would anyone buy it?! http://www.cafepress.com/raptureready there are books, dvd's ,videogames, clothing, and on and on, why? why would you buy this junk? Is is because marketers realize, if you will "buy" the whole concept of this "rapture" nonsense. You will buy anything? This market is quite large obviously given the sheer amount of products available, even giving forth a new term " christian industrial complex" which has become the latest catch phrase. But mostly the political power these nutjobs have is staggering. -

I cannot speak for Scribblett. But I, however can honestly say I have not read the book you're spouting about! I challenge you to prove where I said that I did read that book. I know telling lies and twisting of facts seem to come so easy with you.....but don't you be telling or maliciously insinuating lies about me on this board and expect it to go unchallenged! I hope I make myself clear. oh you make yourself loud and clear, though I can never quite figure out what, you go on and on about. see you quoted me above see those question marks? That means I am questioning, so I am not assuming, not stating you had, but questioning on recall. Learn to read, okay? did I make myself clear? -

odd because I recall scriblett acknowledging she had read the "left behind" fanatics book. Betsy, pretty sure, you did also??? INC. FOX news!!. You can look at that on line, and surely both of you do. The rapture ready christans! So it really stretches credulity, to read either of you make the claims you do. Oh and in the video, the 'rapture ready' christians, do all there own talking, perhaps, they shouldn't if it is so embarrassing, it needs to be denied? -
