  1. I find that a little hard to believe. I mean that you can accept it. (that people can espouse the superiority of their faith and you can accept that) That is not a view that has ever been espoused on this forum. One of tolerance. In fact what has been amply displayed is intolerance, of Islam as a faith. I will also note, still, the dismissal/downplay of what Anne Coulter really did say.
  2. I find all the religions have mainly the same views. Religion is also a personal BELIEF, that means, "keep it to yourself" Actually, they can also all be wrong.
  3. It is wonderful to note that those who regularly associate themselves with the "right", coming out in full puffed up defence, of loss of freedoms, all government enforced, of course. Clearly civilized, and I would add, coherently THINKING people, would see the imbalance of power in a state ,empowering itself ,through random politically motivated charges, against it's own population. But hey I can think of so many leaders, who would be sooo grateful to have such a complacent populace, that would go along with this garbage.
  4. But, hold it there jefferiah, as I was perusing a number of site, over the entire, Annie incident. I was on , I think Editor& Publisher. In the readers comments section. The writer pointed out: That as annie said, she just thinks everyone should be Christian, cause it would be easier?? and "Jews to be perfected". This is exactly the same thing that it is alleged extremist Islam is after, apparently everyone to be Islamic, now, I DO NOT know that to be true, because I cannot read arabic. BUT, for the sake of this conversation I do KNOW for certain that Annie said that, everyone should be Christian inc. Jews, so they would be "perfected". A writer wrote in and said Fundie Christian, Fundie Islam, both the same, same agenda (assuming this is the case with fundie Islam, though as I stated, I don't read arabic) Fundamentalist Christians are the opposite side of the same coin. I would agree 100 percent with that. Second of all, had a Muslim?Arab said this, there would have been so much outrage. This forum would be filled with reams of threads, spouting outrage over these statements.Holding the statement up as proof of Islam's something or another. Instead we see, excusing of Anne's statement: BUT, because a fellow Christian has made the statement, silence and excuse making. An appalling and apparent , blatant double standard. Therefore Jefferiah... why is not OK, for a follower of Islam them to say there religion is the true way, and it not be met, with outrage. BTW: Anne said quite a bit more then that, really.
  5. Clearly you don't see a balance. IMO, you have just spouted alot of nonsense, about nothing. This incident has nothing to do with a bridge, first of all http://www.codepink4peace.org/article.php?...pe&type=328 Ann Wright, retired U.S. army colonel and former diplomat who quit in opposition to the Iraq war, and Medea Benjamin, co-founder of CODEPINK and founding director of Global Exchange, tested Canada's policy towards US peace activists on Thursday. They were on their way to Toronto at the invitation of the Toronto Stop the War Coalition but were denied entry into Canada due to previous arrests he women were questioned at Canadian customs about their participation in anti-war efforts and informed that they had an FBI file indicating they had been arrested in acts of non-violent civil disobedience. Do you know how many peace activists have small petty charges against them, politically motivated, of course?! That even charging these people for acts of civil disobedience, is nothing more the politically motivated punishment for challenging the "state"??? By these same actions do you know Martin Luther King could not have come in our country??? Clearly civilized, and I would add, coherently THINKING people, would see the imbalance in a state ,empowering itself through random politically motivated charges, against it's own population.
  6. I am amazed at the unadulterated nonsense, this topic has brought out. Get a permit to protest, because it is that "state" that endows that right?? Good thing many movements in the past that advanced the human cause, didn't get a "permit" hence "permission" from the state, to challenge the state! How many rights that we have now, do you think we'd have? How many wrongs would have been corrected had everyone got permission from the 'state'? hey soon, maybe the "state" will force us to get a permit to have kids!! yah, and if you have any with out your permit, you can get in trouble. Sounds pretty tyrannical to me!
  7. You may not have to agree, but one can accept there right to believe. Muslims believe Jesus is a prophet Jesus and Muslims .
  8. Melanie? The Flying Spaghetti Monster, I love it!!! What a religion. Just like all the others. Have you read through the site. I have
  9. well I was having a little perusal of some sites last night and lo and behold there was Annie , on some radio talk show earlier: Kevin McCullough Her is kevin making the utterly absurd case that Deutsch somehow had ambushed her. On his blog later in the day, McCullough agreed. Kevin McCullough: Boohoo Poor Ann, apparently the Donnie fellow framed her to boost ratings ,etc., who is Kevin McCollough? http://kevinmccullough.townhall.com/ Townhall.com as Annie is a featured columnist there Townhall is a "right" site.
  10. No that is not what they were arrested for, why don't some of you get your story straight? Permits to protest? This is just more LOL garbage, I cannot even believe people buy into this garbage??? Where are your thinking caps?? You do not need a permit to protest, it is your democratic right, as a person/populace! All the STATE has to do is deny the permit, and you have NO RIGHTS. So what will the STATE do? Issue NO 'permits' to protest, and then NO ONE will have the right, effectively taking away a democratic right of the populace. Is this lost on some of you? Apparently it is? I have never heard or read so much nonsense in my life.
  11. LOL, the tresspassing charge was obviously politically motivated, as was the placement on the list. I agree about criminals. VIOLENT offenders. I truly don't give a hooey, for this type of nonsense.
  12. I will credit her though for providing us with another "christian scandal"!!!!!!!
  13. A quick perusal of almost every 'right' labelled website , has Ms Coulter on it. Articles etc., Actually I give her no credit, unfortunately the "christian right" does appear to.
  14. “It’s outrageous that Canada is turning away peacemakers protesting a war that does not have the support of either US or Canadian citizens,†says Benjamin. We in Canada and our gov. at the time, did NOT support the attack on iraq, I certainly do not now, nor never have. We should not enforce politically motivated watch lists.
  15. Yes a 50 fine, misdemeanor is certainly a good reason (not) and soon, we can stop people with parking tickets? There was no reason for them to be on the FBI watch list, for peaceful protesting and trying to present a petition. The US is allegedly a free country , inc. a freedom to protest. Therefore their placement on the FBI watchlist was obviously politically motivated and is extremely reminiscent of a dictatorial state. As to Canada's role? pure nonsense. Lacking commonsense or independance.
  16. She is unfortunately typical "right". She speaks at mega-churches of christian denomination and it ain't catholic. She is regularly featured on "right" wing websites. She certainly represents the "right" ideology, as espoused at this time. She is anti- "liberal" anti-choice, anti-gay, anti-muslim, etc., In fact she is anti everything that is secular and progressive. She is anti everything/anyone that isn't "right" and "christian" She made the comment about wanting to "perfect jews",because in her mind the only perfect people are christians. She thought that was perfectly OK. you can watch her here: http://www.cnbc.com/id/15840232?video=555880339
  17. what an embarrassment for Canada.! Totally politically motivated, a misdemeanor 50$ fine, gets someone on the FBI list?????? Only in that bastion of freedom to the south of us. Then Canada displays an amount of stupidity, that is beyond pale, buy actually not showing any independence or common sense.
  18. Interestingly I see Anne Coulter put her 'christian' foot, in her 'christian' mouth. Demonstrating the usual right wing 'christian' rhetoric. I see an uproar is on the go. Aaah, but the woman has always been venemous, this is nothing new, or surprising. http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/ne...t_id=1003657196 transcript: DEUTSCH: Christian -- so we should be Christian? It would be better if we were all Christian? COULTER: Yes. DEUTSCH: We should all be Christian? COULTER: Yes. Would you like to come to church with me, Donny? DEUTSCH: So I should not be a Jew, I should be a Christian, and this would be a better place? COULTER: Well, you could be a practicing Jew, but you're not. DEUTSCH: I actually am. That's not true. I really am. But -- so we would be better if we were - if people -- if there were no Jews, no Buddhists -- COULTER: Whenever I'm harangued by -- DEUTSCH: -- in this country? You can't believe that. COULTER: -- you know, liberals on diversity -- DEUTSCH: Here you go again. COULTER: No, it's true. I give all of these speeches at megachurches across America, and the one thing that's really striking about it is how utterly, completely diverse they are, and completely unself-consciously. You walk past a mixed-race couple in New York, and it's like they have a chip on their shoulder. They're just waiting for somebody to say something, as if anybody would. And -- DEUTSCH: I don't agree with that. I don't agree with that at all. Maybe you have the chip looking at them. I see a lot of interracial couples, and I don't see any more or less chips there either way. That's erroneous. COULTER: No. In fact, there was an entire Seinfeld episode about Elaine and her boyfriend dating because they wanted to be a mixed-race couple, so you're lying. DEUTSCH: Oh, because of some Seinfeld episode? OK. COULTER: But yeah, I think that's reflective of what's going on in the culture, but it is completely striking that at these huge megachurches -- the idea that, you know, the more Christian you are, the less tolerant you would be is preposterous. DEUTSCH: That isn't what I said, but you said I should not -- we should just throw Judaism away and we should all be Christians, then, or -- COULTER: Yeah. DEUTSCH: Really? COULTER: Well, it's a lot easier. It's kind of a fast track. DEUTSCH: Really? COULTER: Yeah. You have to obey. DEUTSCH: You can't possibly believe that. COULTER: Yes. DEUTSCH: You can't possibly -- you're too educated, you can't -- you're like my friend in -- COULTER: Do you know what Christianity is? We believe your religion, but you have to obey. DEUTSCH: No, no, no, but I mean -- COULTER: We have the fast-track program. DEUTSCH: Why don't I put you with the head of Iran? I mean, come on. You can't believe that. COULTER: The head of Iran is not a Christian. DEUTSCH: No, but in fact, "Let's wipe Israel" -- COULTER: I don't know if you've been paying attention. DEUTSCH: "Let's wipe Israel off the earth." I mean, what, no Jews? COULTER: No, we think -- we just want Jews to be perfected, as they say. DEUTSCH: Wow, you didn't really say that, did you? COULTER: Yes. That is what Christianity is. We believe the Old Testament, but ours is more like Federal Express. You have to obey laws. We know we're all sinners -- DEUTSCH: In my old days, I would have argued -- when you say something absurd like that, there's no -- COULTER: What's absurd? DEUTSCH: Jews are going to be perfected. I'm going to go off and try to perfect myself -- COULTER: Well, that's what the New Testament says. DEUTSCH: Ann Coulter, author of If Democrats Had Any Brains, They'd Be Republicans, and if Ann Coulter had any brains, she would not say Jews need to be perfected. I'm offended by that personally. And we'll have more Big Idea when we come back. I liked the guys response, but then, what else would anyone expect from her?
  19. most 'born agains' ,'rapture cultists' have no inclination to save your soul or anyone elses' who does not believe as they believe. Sadly they have no real passion for saving anyone who does not follow as they do. They have no passion for peace, nor the planet, nor much of anything that works for human survival. But then they have the rapture. Making them as equally self-serving as any racist or any other extremist.
  20. perhaps the NY times is more to your liking? http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/14/washingt...amp;oref=slogin For Evangelicals, Supporting Israel Is ‘God’s Foreign Policy’ He called the conflict “a battle between good and evil” and said support for Israel was “God’s foreign policy.” The next day he took the same message to the White House. Mr Hagee, just one of numerous, rapture cultist, goes to Washington, to the White House, BUT, they have no influence.??? people with no influence , don't get the attention these people get.
  21. how about the christian resource? (crossleft) written by karen Armstrong? or the other article written by the Methodist Reverend? please address those articles then if the one you mentioned does not "suit" your purposes.
  22. T Unfortunately for you, no matter the downplay you are attempting, bringing on Armageddon, for the rapture to come on, is based exactly on how this rapture cult talks. .Again it is quite mainstream with multi -millions of followers, estimated at 20 MILLION in the US alone. http://www.villagevoice.com/news/0420,perlstein,53582,1.html The Jesus Landing Pad Bush White House checked with rapture Christians before latest Israel move It was an e-mail we weren't meant to see. Not for our eyes were the notes that showed White House staffers taking two-hour meetings with Christian fundamentalists, where they passed off bogus social science on gay marriage as if it were holy writ and issued fiery warnings that "the Presidents [sic] Administration and current Government is engaged in cultural, economical, and social struggle on every level"—this to a group whose representative in Israel believed herself to have been attacked by witchcraft unleashed by proximity to a volume of Harry Potter. Most of all, apparently, we're not supposed to know the National Security Council's top Middle East aide consults with apocalyptic Christians eager to ensure American policy on Israel conforms with their sectarian doomsday scenarios. But now we know. Not mainstream and no influence,(as scott and Jefferiah CLAIM) but somehow these rapture cultist's have the President of the USA's ear. Now how did such a uninfluential group of people do that???
  23. http://www.crossleft.org/?q=node/2416 How Religious Movements Prolong the Arab-Israeli Conflict who is Karen Armstrong? Armstrong has authored thirteen books, including the best seller A History of God. At age seventeen she took vows of chastity and poverty, and entered the Roman Catholic order of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus. Seven years later she left the convent and in 1982 published her first book, Through the Narrow Gate, which chronicles her life as a nun. Shortly thereafter she published a second autobiographical book about the religious life, Beginning the World. Armstrong's achievements as an independent scholar focusing on the three great monotheistic religions, Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, have earned her a reputation as a major contributor to interfaith understanding and respect. Her books on Islam and Muhammad have given many Westerners their first clear and unbiased insight into the history and teachings of this great tradition and its prophet. Her latest book, The Great Transformation: The Beginning of Our Religious Traditions, was published in March 2006;
  24. I see, so the US aiding a chechyan rebel, getting him out of Russia, and fast-tracking him for citizenship, putting him up in an apt, paid for by taxpayers, is not an indicator of the US backing for at least one chechyan rebel??? I guess the US did that all out of the "goodness of their hearts"?
  25. Then, shortly after the negotiations broke down, Washington got word that Akhmadov's life was in danger. "A message was passed on to him by outside channels that he could no longer stay in Baku," says the Jamestown Foundation's Howard. "That he would probably be handed over to the Russians." Akhmadov, his U.S. supporters urged, should seek sanctuary in America. He had enough friends in high places in Washington to all but guarantee him a fair hearing with U.S. immigration judges. How is it washington got word? ""A message was passed on to him by outside channels that he could no longer stay in Baku," who passed the message to the Chechynan "freedom fighter" that he couldn't stay in Baku? had he been compromised in some way? and "That he would probably be handed over to the Russians." How was he informed of this, and by whom? "Akhmadov, his U.S. supporters urged, should seek sanctuary in America." His US supporter? A chechnyn rebel/freedom fighter How did he come to have US supporters?? "Fortunately for Akhmadov, another benefactor, Max Kampelman, a former chief arms negotiator for Ronald Reagan and a counselor to the State Department" friends in the State Dept, well why not! I wonder how many chechnyans have friends in high places in washington? But he did! So did that other terrorist, the one that terrorized Cuba/Cubans.
