Freedom, Health Care, Glasnost & Perestroika

indeed it does, just look at the number of "unfixed" cats. Seems people love a kitten, but heck, it's so cute and fuzzy and sweet. BUT, no stopping them dumping the kittens in the country , or taking them to the humane society. When they become to much of a nuisance. Just pay to fix them, but the cost, the cost.... And how many people opt to put their pets down, when they require expensive treatments, because they cannot afford treatment? Hmm, perhaps with privitization, we will see a swing upward in Euthansia. Can't afford the treatment...... That should get the christian right up in arms, playing god and all.......... -

and for all the blathering Canadian blue did. There was no mention of how it is a fact that business is more accountable then government? The US system is largely private, the Canadian sytem largely public, if you are arguing for privatisation, there is no guarantee, what with NAFTA and other movements towards...shall we say, unity with the US, that you will get any other particular system. So rather then knee jerk, it is just really facing up to the reality of the said situation. How much taxpayer dollars are the bail-outs of the private banks and business ? -

Michael hardner: Business is inherently accountable to its stakeholders - including owners and customers. Yes, we can see the accountability business demonstrates.... Enron, Worldcom, Goldman-Sachs, AGI, all so accountable for their mismanagement. Fraud, fraud, fraud, is that accountability? Taxpayer handouts is that accountability? Bundling bad mortgages and selling them as safe investments, yah, that is accountability? Business being accountable is simply more ideology, unsubstantiated ideology. It's like religious belief , swallowed up unconditionally. Allelujiah propogated of course by the business class, for their own benefit, to be swallowed up by rubes without question. -
If Israel really wanted peace, they would have peace. But one cannot steal land in peace time. When continued occupation enables that goal so nicely.

You are talking about something else, the benefit of a generator is ALWAYS the same. A generator makes power, that is all it does. Your talking about the circumstances surrounding the benefit. Within our current system there are tangible ways of knowing the costs, dollars spent for patients treated. There is in fact lots of available information on the cost effectiveness of the system here vs other systems. You never demonstrate the statements you make, I notice that, over and over. All generalized "there is no way of knowing the benefits" How about a lower infant mortality rate then in the US? How about a longer life then in the US? Are those not tangible and measurable benefits. Of course they are! They simply aren't the facts that an idealogue wants to consider. And that is what you and your article boil down to, ideology.. You and someone else think or have the opinion that your correct. And you use spin, to promote that idea. Hence the title and tone of the article. No substance. -

one can define profit in a number of ways and not necessarily in the way you describe. example: during the icestorm , generator prices were jacked up to gouge desperate buyers. The benefit of having a generator is always the same. (ability to produce power) That doesn't change. What changed was the circumstance. Increased demand. In this case increased demand lead to price gouging, the function of the generator nor cost of manufacture did not change. But was the price gouging "beneficial"? To whom? You make a number of assumption with public single payer tax system. You assume that we don't get good value for the money. Yet, you cannot demonstrate through any sort of other means that we would get better value through a private system. When all information points to massively increased costs and vast swathes of the population being excluded. These would not constitute good value for the $$$. This is something that I am surprised the so called 'conservatives' do not grasp. Now lets get back to our jacked up generator prices... Private health care with jacked up prices to make profit, how much profit? As much as they can get. That could be 100 percent profit for all we know! This will fall on insurers of course, or should I say people lucky enough to have insurance. Insurance rates will increase. People will be unable to afford said premiums, more and more will fall through the cracks. Sound familiar at all? We have had an efficient system in this country for what sixty years? The problem in the system is underfunding, and it will only get worse as the boomers age. But that is the intention here anyway, to destroy the system by underfunding it. problem, reaction , solution. The means to that end is for people who offer nothing but assertations, unsubstantiated of course, to make enough noise........ -
Been to a show lately? Any figures on how many video games sell in NA, at that time of the fantasy holiday of Christmas? You know the video games such as rock star that have spawned rock star "competitions" coming to a mall near you. But hey, if you can't chose the world you live in, may as well live in a fantasy one, ala technology holy assumptions and judgements.

every time I see a thread like this...and there have been so many on maple leaf web over the yrs, I think....what is the point of it? It is always started by someone who has some axe to grind. Against some imaginary slights. It's christmas, this is my second year without a tree, do I need a tree for it to be christmas? no. It says it is christmas on the calender. So apparently a random day is designated as "christmas" ok, but, so what?? some do and some don't celebrate, some will and some won't celebrate so what? I got no problem with it. So why a thread or two or three every year? Because the people who start them, simply can't let others live and let live. They aren't happy unless everyone conforms to their ideas and ideals. sigh...... Though I don't have a tree, I will wish people either "Merry Christmas" or "Enjoy your holidays" EVERYONE wishes me well in return "merry christmas" "have fun" "don't drink to much" lol Isn't that all that matters, the well wishes, the kindredship, the hugs and pats on the back. Not how it is expressed? In the zeal to have everyone conform it seems some lose sight of what is really important.

au contraire toyota is or will be laying off. Ditto for Honda Production cut at five North American Honda facilities See all the car makers are watching sales fall.... the problem with car sales boils down not to efficiency, how the plants were run, nope, it boils down to the consumer no longer buying, no customers, no money, no loans. economics 101, In the most simplest terms for you to be able to comprehend, consumers aren't buying, they are not willing to take on debt in an unstable economy, therefore, they are not buying cars You had better check the latest news oh and btw carmakers and especially the big banks are failing due to rampant greed, and an anything to make a buck sort of ideology. Which is something definitely not beneficial to health care. -

could you back that nonsensical assertation up, please. such as this: Costs of Health Care Administration: U.S. vs. Canada why the difference? because every step of the way, there is profit making. or this cost of bypass surgery why is that? Because cost are higher. Why are cost higher? The profit that must be taken, by everyone along the way. So all evidence demonstrates clearly that a for profit system if vastly more costly to the consumer then a non-profit system. http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/short/349/8/768 so whitedoors anything along that line will do, demonstrate how the profit motive included in the cost of health care is cost effective, ie" cheaper and more efficient as you claim. Other then that you have nothing but a business induced ideology. -

'White Doors' this is just more baloney. Profit is not a bad word. Wether it is a "bad" or "good' word is irrelevant, words don't have values. Profit- how much, on who's back, how many can afford to pay??? . Yes, profit does mean addtional expenses, it most certainly does and anyones who believes or claims otherwise is a blithering idiot. Case in point. The US system, look at the cost of it for the services rendered. Operation cost per operation cost, profit increases the expense. A belief, an ideology. But does it? Really? Is business able to operate more efficiently? Well look around buddy boy... All the "efficient" businesses going down the tubes, banks, car manufacturers, and more.. Must be all that efficiency? Taking peoples livelihoods on down with them. One would think had these business been run efficiently they would wether the storm, but infact, they have been run foolishly, corruptly. But cars aren't healthcare. Healtcare is a human right, a car is not. pure speculation. And you couldn't substantiate this if you tried. It seems the supporters of for profit medicine, are the biggest promoters of a nonsensical ideology. Business can do things more efficiently, and cost effectivley. Pure ideological fantasy, and years of corporate brainwashing done to serve... drum roll please.. CORPORATIONS. -
It was the best holiday video clip I could think of. what a gift! I watched it over and over and laughed and laughed and laughed. I think the reporter should have a day of honour, feasting and fun. Iraqis should hoist him on there shoulders, and celebrate his courage. Or hell get rid of the puppet maliki asap, see if this reporter can't do better.

If someone is that pathetic, that they need to "smack down the weak" to make themselves feel good. When their turn comes, and it looks like it is coming............. They will get their karma, so to speak. Then their arrogance will turn to depression awfully quick............

do you know that for a fact? What is the percentage? I read assumption here......... Really who the hell wants to live a miserable existence, using food banks, getting dirty looks from self-righteous people. Wow, that's a life I would chose if I could! and what about all that corporate welfare, the endless subsidies. Example the banks in the US took the taxpayers dollars and bought up other banks and assets, in other words, the corporate welfare ( taxpayer dollars) went to enrich themselves. It was supposed to free up credit. I always wonder why humans are so willing to crap on other humans, but, will go without to bail, subsidize, prop up, big business. What does it say about some members of the human race?
-
He will fill them asap, just like any other opportunistic politician...... Is this rocket science or something?
-
The role of "welfare" in society is to keep the lower classes from overthrowing the upperclass, and it is failing miserably. Look at it for what it really is CLASS WARFARE restrained. Just take a look at what is going on around the world............... Look at the tax dollars going to bail out corporations or banks? Why is that ok, with people, when it is actually the peoples money? Well, it just goes to demonstrate how very well conditioned society is, how well the propoganda worked. But I am sure this thread will fill up with nonsense about people being lazy, and not working hard enough, when people are working longer, and more members of their family are working. Mom, Dad, the kids Just like a good old 3rd world country.............

governments? "the state"?
-
wondering why specifically you cite Ontario, other then your own hang-ups? It says from the article, the acca, was extended to manufacturers and renewable technologies. Does it say to Ontario? No it does not, just you do. Could it be manufacturers in provinces other then Ontario? It certainly could be. When the acca was withdrawn, or phased out, was it at that time extended to other businesses? Perhaps as a break that they had never had before? Note the use of the term "Ottawa extended" Therefore did other manufacturers and renewable technologies previously have access to this tax break? I hope you can read beyond sixth grade?
-
do you live in the present? just keep moving the goal posts............ when you got nothing, what else is there?
-
did you read what I wrote? I'll reiterate, since you have said the same thing in different words, why? I don't know, but, whatever floats your boat. Prior to you saying "Most companies in Canada get the accelerated CCA write down. " I said: Nothing special in Canada, wants a tax break like all the rest, wants a hand out like all the rest and in the end it will be the individual who will make up the tax shortfall. What colour is the sky in your world btw?
-
and to use fear to do so, and shout treason from the mountains, cause that was productive right, as PM of the entire country of Canada??? perhaps you should go off and review what the PM said.
-
at least you acknowledge it is a tax break, and one that had been removed, but now 300 million dollars will have to come from elsewhere. funny when Alberta wants a tax break , it becomes about other provinces??? I guess what it boils down to is Alberta is nothing special, it is just another province in Canada.
-
Is he the PM at this time? do you live in the present? the spectre of trudeau, another boogey man, who cares except you? pathetic
