  1. If Canada is socialist then so is the U.S. Food stamps and Social Security anyone?
  2. What exactly would banning Russia from the G8 accomplish other than isolating them even more & pissing them off for a rather mundane reason?
  3. This isn't a price spike. Oil is at a record high. In fact unless i'm mistaken i don't believe oil has ever been over $100 a barrel until late last year. Now pair this with the recent mass concern over climate change and you have youself a major issue.
  4. Jerry, The media takes its share of cracks at Obama. Ie: Reverend Wright, his "elitist" comments, his inexperience in foreign policy, his scuttle with the Chancellor of Germany over his upcoming speech there, his so-called out-of-place comments on policy to Iraq's President, his policy "flip-flopping" etc. I could name plently more. Remove the visor.
  5. As long as what he does or did affects me, my country, and the human rights of others in other countries, i have absolutely no reason to "get over it" or "move on".
  6. Crazy? Hardly. Kucinich knows this will almost certainly amount to nothing, but he did it for the principles of it. Pelosi, & the other Democrats are too afraid of ruining their chances in 2008 to do the right thing & put these f'ers being bars. The U.S. is a wonderful country. Its build upon a remarkable Consititution. But the Bush admin has crapped everything up the last 7 years, in many cases illegally, and the Democrats have failed to hold them to account for fear of political folly, and the American people themselves have failed to pressure their elected representives into holding the Bush admin legally responsible as well. Unfortunately, one of the freedoms Americans are guaranteed is the freedom of ignorance. The system is there, but apathy, ignorance, and power-lust has come to bite them in the arse. I am disappointed in America the last 7 years, they are better than this. Kucinich isn't "whacko", he has some eccentric quirks (carrying all those things in his pocket), but he is intelligent & principled. No matter what people say on these forums, history will write him well, not so for Bush & co. Hopefully Bush & Co. will be held to account after they leave office. Something must also be done so that what they did can never happen again.
  7. And what is wrong with that exactly?? btw, congrats to Obama. A truly historic moment last night. 60 years ago people wouldn't have believed it.
  8. And destroyed every paper trail having ever had anything to do with these WMD's? And all info on every computer harddrive and disk and email? And dismantled and disposed of the chemical labs? And mobile weapons labs? And all without the CIA seeing any of this via satellite photos etc.? Saddam did all this and then hid in a tiny hole in the ground? While its honestly hard to believe he didn't have any WMD's pre-invasion, its also hard to believe he could have got rid of all the evidence, and equally hard to believe the U.S. never found any evidence it had existed soon before invasion (and if they did find some, they would have screamed it from the rooftops). All this is quite moot, since even if Saddam did have WMD's, the war would still have been a horrible idea.
  9. i would say dumb move by Carter. Accomplishes little, creates a hornets nest.
  10. Scott McClellan was and still is a lying sack of crap. I don't trust anything that comes out of this guy. At least least Ari Fleischer was a likeable and convincing liar. Watched a few interviews of McClellan on CNN yesterday. Sounds like he wasn't yet retired from his job as spindoctor as he spun and B.S.'d his way through most of the questions. Says he didn't quit or raise concerns because back then because he was "young and naive" and "caught up in the partisan political game" (paraphrased). McClellan knew that a lot of what he was saying was B.S. during the daily White House questions. He should have said something to somebody about his complaints, which apparently he didn't. He should have resigned much sooner, not 3 years into the job, which he didn't. He's a sack of crap who road the gravy train full steam until it collapsed on him, and only now is voicing his views...publically & for profit. I appreciate the gov't criticism, but its just too little too late and contains mostly things we already know well after the fact. Bob Dole says it bang-on in an email he sent to McClellan about the book:
  11. EI is still necessary. You can't expect everyone who gets laid off from their job for a month (for which they may have gone to school for years to train for) to up and move to Alberta. And what about EI Sickness Benefits? But anyways, they probably need to reduce the amount the worker pays into IE if there is such a surplus. And i agree that at least it was used to pay down the debt instead of some wasteful project.
  12. The recent Burma and China disasters kinda puts 9/11 into perspective, doesn't it? All sad and tragic, but it could have been much worse. But i guess 1 tragic death is tragic enough.
  13. I suppose. But any suggestions to Bush will go through the Cheney filter anyways. I am very interested to know exectly how McCain plans on doing this. i would like to hear him elaborate on how he's going to do this.
  14. I don't think it should matter if you religious or not. You don't have to respect the religious beliefs of others, but you must be aware of the consequences that disrespecting those beliefs will have. It's anyone's right i suppose to pop the Bible and Qur'an with a .50 cal, but know that its going to piss people off, and sometimes in ways that are undesireable to you. The Qu'ran target practice has already caused protests in Afghanistan, with i believe 2 NATO soliders being shot & killed. That doesn't mean those who were shot deserved it or that the shooters are anything but scum worse than the Mr. Target Practice. But if a U.S. soldier shoots up a Qu'ran while in the Muslim country his own country has invaded & occupied, logic says some radical response like that is going to happen somewhere. So common sense says "best not shoot up a copy of the Qu'ran" because the response will be undesireable and completely counteractive to what the U.S. and allies are trying to do in Iraq and Afghanistan. I agree in a sense. The "war on terror" is not a winnable war. You cannot defeat terrorism, you can only contain it.
  15. Right. I forgot you were in the room. Bush probably would have agreed with the Joint Chiefs of Staff (and Cheney and Rummy if they were there too) in their recommendation to invade Cuba. Thats the hard ass approach. And we would all be dead. Please enlighten me on what im missing.
  16. They should have asked Jesus point-blank what he thought about gays and if they should marry. It would be funny if they found some scrolls discovering Jesus and Peter were boyfriends. Anyways, good for Cali.
  17. Hey i just figured out how McCain is going reach this goal. He'll invade Iran, take all their nukes, and then drop them on Iraq on the way home. 2 birds with one stone!
  18. But they don't report the news. Have many times has the name "curveball" appeared on CNN in the last 7 years? The primary job of network news it's to report the news, its to make money.
  19. There's a difference between talking to someone, and talking with someone. How many conversations has Bush had with Ahmadinejad? The point isn't that talking will solve these problems. The point is that you can at least make an effort to talk with them. Even if it may only provide the smallest of gains at the very best, it is worth a shot. This administration seems to be skipping the "talking" part and going right to the "bombing" part. What if talking with Iran resulted is some small agreement where Iran pulled a few tanks out of some area & it resulted in saving the life of 1 u.s. soldier or one civilian? Is that not worth the price and the effort a 12-hour plane-ride? It would be interesting to see how Bush would have done during the Cuban missle crisis. Would he have gone all hard-ass & not have bothered talking/responding with Khrushchev and blown us all up? Former U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara's Lesson #1: "empathize with your enemy".
  20. Commenting on McCain's comments: It doesn't matter if you are for or against the war, this man is dillusional if he thinks he can win the war in 4 years. And he's just plain nuts that he's making this into an election promise. Same goes with him claiming he will capture and/or kill Bin Laden in those same 4 years.
  21. Its attitudes like these that make people want to fly airplanes into office buildings. Thank you for perpetuating this war of religions. I hope you have many children and grandchildren in your lifetime so that you may instill this wisdom upon them also. At least that made a bit of sense. But its understandable that this story is making news since there are a massive amount of people in the world, and many of whom are not terrorists, who would (and have) give(n) their own lives defending that book.
  22. Obama's wants to "cuddle up" to Iran? Uhm no. It's called diplomacy, something the current administration knows nothing of. Bombs cost lots of money and lots of lives. Talking to your enemy costs nothing (minus a plane trip or a long-distance phone fee). Worst case scenario of talking to Iran: they throw Obama out & things procede ala status quo. A possible positive scenario is Ahmadinejad hating the U.S. slightly less. The US has invaded and occupied two large countries bordering Iran on each flank, so can anyone blame Iran for despising the US and the west, & for seeking a nuke? Would any other country do any different? So knowing the alternatives the Bush war-drums have been beating lately, the harm in talking is to Iran is what exactly?
  23. Off the top of my head i think he, & to a lesser extent Chris Matthews, are the only people on American network news who have consistently criticized the Bush administration. I always enjoy his comments. Kudos to him, and to MSNBC for letting this stuff on-air (...after they sacked Phil Donahue). Where are the others??? Why must we rely on Comedy Central, PBS, and HBO to find some criticisms of this gov't on television?
