How to become less informed
Moonlight Graham replied to Shakeyhands's topic in Media and Broadcasting
Misinformation reaches across country borders also. I'd like to see a study comparing how informed Americans are generally compared to other developed countries. Canadians aren't a shining beacon of non-ignorance. Voter turnout was only 58.8% in the 2008 federal election, an all-time low. As far as the U.S., Fox News has certainly not helped people to be exposed to the truth, but rather what they want to hear. People who would expose themselves Fox News in any significantly capacity have intelligence problems to begin with, and watching such garbage just makes the problem worse. -
I've been playing guitar for 4-5 years now, about as long as that girl has been alive, and she destroys me in technical skill. She is amazing, but somebody that young (or anybody really) just doesn't pick up a guitar and start playing. She has put in an insane amount of practice. Assuming she might have started playing in any meaningful way at around 3 y/o, her parents have probably forced her to practice many hours a day, everyday, to get that good that fast. This is probably the result of over-zealous parents and a talented kid who doesnt get to go outside and play very much. Also, there's no way she wrote that song. She likely took someone else's piece and memorized it. But the technique is fantastic. She's barring all 6 strings with her tiny hand, something adults have trouble doing. And she is finger-picking nicely, a tough skill in itself.

Scientists Challenge UN and Gore
Moonlight Graham replied to lukin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
CO2 is NOT a pollutant. It is a gas that also occurs naturally in the atmosphere. Taking CO2's hypothesized impact on current global warming out of the equation, increased CO2 at the levels that are occurring doesn't really harm anything. The rise in CO2 has not affected human health or animal health from anything i've read in terms of exposure. In fact, plants enjoy a good meal of CO2. Also, smog is not caused by CO2. Pollutants though should be decreased dramatically. Carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, soot/particulate matter. Coal and oil burning etc. is disgusting, no doubt. -
Trudeau family causes great offense!
Moonlight Graham replied to kimmy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The whole issue of fur/hide depends on how the fur/hide was obtained. You equate cowhide with coyote fur? Cowhide is, i'd imagine, mostly obtained after a cow is killed for its meat. I don't see a problem with that. With Trudeau's coyote hide, the question is still: how was it obtained? If the animal was killed exclusively for its hide, in my opinion that's barbaric & sick. If it was obtained somehow naturally, then fine. I wouldn't kill an animal just to wear it as an ornament. My non-fur coat is plenty warm. -
That doesn't mean taxes increased. Tax revenue would have increased if they stayed the same or were even lowered due to the increase in US population since the 70's.

Today is International Human Rights Day
Moonlight Graham replied to Moonlight Graham's topic in The Rest of the World
I would think there's a big difference in being denied a right and failing to achieve it. Human rights are of course all relative, and the concept is a bit frustrating because of this. -
The riots show what happens when people get used to the welfare state and subsidies etc. They get so used to them & feel entitled that when you try to roll them back people won't stand for it. Not that education subsidies are bad, but if a gov't balance its bank account...

Wouldn't something you need to go into debt to pay for be by definition not affordable?

US news weapon-electomagnetic cannon
Moonlight Graham replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
The classic "Speak softly and carry a big stick" theory has to be one the greatest and simplest foreign policy philosophies in modern history. It's beautiful. Unfortunately, yes the US has gone of the wagon in this front with the Bush admin. Canada has also trailed off our traditionally "soft-speaking" ways under Harper, but of course we have the greatest big stick of all - the US! And its free, wooo! -
The SA is good peoples. Reespekt!

Probably because they OD on the crack habit that their idiotic parents introduced them to, which was the reason CAS took them away in the first place. Or maybe it's because the kids commit suicide because of the nightmares of the horrors of abuse and neglect that their parents put them through growing up before they were taken away? Let me guess, CAS has f'ed with ya & you have a chapped bum? In my experience with them, they usually have very good reason to intervene. Virtually all parents who've had CAS on their tail despise CAS, and i suppose i would too if they threatened or succeeded in taking away my child or otherwise intervened in my family affairs. But usually very few of these parents admit that they had it coming. -
Copper now at 25 cents per ounce.
Moonlight Graham replied to ZenOps's topic in Business and Economy
wait, is the price really cheap now? Or is it skyrocketing like gold? I sold a truckload of copper wire a few years ago, interested in knowing. -
Thoughts to the millions around the world who are denied their basic human rights within this largely BS of an entity we call human "civilization". Here's to progress. We might get there one day, baby.

Has Public Sector Exceeded Critical Mass?
Moonlight Graham replied to pfezziwig's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Sounds a lot like the North American car companies & the worker unions. The unions and the high worker salaries/benefits that kept going up and up have helped destroy the companies' competitiveness, and they'll all need to go bankrupt in order to break the unions and restore the worker salaries/benefits to levels based somewhere in reality. But of course the companies were bailed out instead, like putting a Flintstones band-aid on your neck to fix a lacerated jugular. -
How many % points in the polls do you think Jack Layton's mustache has cost him and/or the NDP party? Seriously, he's quite the double-speaking rat of a politician to begin with in the way he speaks/acts. Does he really need that fink of a mustache of his to help his image??? It makes him look literally like a weasel. I'm not much of an NDP supporter, but i feel bad for those that are ever since Alexa McDonough stepped down as leader. She at least came off as a nice, honest, down-to-earth lady. They should have called it "Jackember" and raise millions to get Layton to shave that porn-stache.

I am rather enjoying your slow, continuing spiral into madness. Condoms were created by men so they could f**k around and not make babies while doing so.

Not all Christians want Christianity to spread across the entire planet either. I grew up Christian, but don't practice much anymore. But in my days when i had a stronger faith i didn't want Christianity spread across the world. I really didn't care what anyone else believed in. Right now you are at the level of untested hypothesis. You need to gather some evidence (some polls maybe?) to prove how much merit this guess of yours has. I dont think some junkmail ad does the trick.

I understand where you're coming from. That said, i'd rather have this on the news than which Hollywood celeb starting dating another Hollywood celeb, or Lindsay Lohan entered rehab blah blah. -
PM approves $7400.00 for refreshments
Moonlight Graham replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
agreed. It doesn't matter if its 7 thousand or 7 million, every penny should be scrutinized. -
This story enrages me. Mostly because there is certainly a good portion of Quebecers who would much prefer a snowflake on their coffee cup than a maple leaf.
