  1. Since the comment was made at a Hebrew school where half of their curriculum is religion, I assume the comment was regarding teaching tolerance. It doesn't appear like he was suggesting adding Creationism to the Ontario curriculum. That would be suicide.
  2. My comment was directed to your accusation that the cabinet ministers will try to claim travel expenses.
  3. I'd think this government is wise enough to know the Oppositon would attack them if they tried something that stupid. Maybe they'll stuff envelopes full of taxpayer cash and leave them on restaurant tables. How evil would that be?
  4. Looks like it's a stat everywhere but Ontario, Manitoba and Quebec. That's sad.
  5. Novemeber 11 is a statutory holiday.
  6. Actually in Alberta you can own mineral rights if the land was originally purchased from the Hudson's Bay Company, not the government.
  7. So you're okay with discrimination as long as it's not on a global scale?
  8. Jennie, the problem with this UN objective is that the status of indigenous peoples varies nation to nation. It's similar to dealing with the environment. Every nation has different circumstances, some more favourable than others. White males are discriminated against in Canada. Would it make sense to have a global declaration to protect the rights of white males? I dont' think so. As far as "Treaties ... refer to our historical agreements with Indigenous Nations, all of which have been broken" goes, hatred can blind you.
  9. Do you not appreciate what the current government has done to address the backlog of treaty claims?
  10. Is that a fact? Wouldn't you agree that if there are a number of unknown variables, making accurate predictions, short-term or long-term, is difficult?
  11. http://web311.pavilion.net/2WWdresden.htm 35,000, not 600,000 were killed in the bombing of Dresden. To say those events must have been an influence is ignorant.
  12. It would suggest 49% don't believe progress has been made. Do you know what futile means?
  13. Actually, according to the results, Harper has done better than all other countries polled.
  14. Most Canadians are apathetic and don't care enough to pay attention. Some still don't know the difference between Iraq and Afghanistan. I assume soldiers are puzzled why support is low. It's really not surprising though. Those who take a casual interest are only going to hear stuff like Harper "nearly completely " refrained from mentioning Afghanistan in a speech. Fact is, he did mention it and his message was one of pride.
  15. This is like the kid who doesn't pay attention in class who then blames the teacher for not teaching him.
  16. The divide is likely between rational and emotional thinkers. With a number of emotional issues (afghanistan, sky is falling) it's not surprising he isn't appealing to those who get wrapped up in those issues.
  17. From the casino page:
  18. What the Tories have demonstrated is that they believe in being responsible. Have they ever been fully on the bandwagon? No. Their polically correct answer is that they support Kyoto in principle. Have they ever been in support of giving countries $10-20 Billion for little or no reason? No. A good defence strategy in court would be to say that Chretien was insane when he signed it. When they asked for proof, the govt lawyers could say a proof is a proof is a proof...
  19. I don't believe Baird can accurately put a number on job losses, that's too hard to predict. But to think corporations will put employee interests ahead of shareholder interests is naive. The facts that 7 of the 15 hottest years occurred before industrialization and that the top 15 years occurred over 7 decades pretty much kills the manmade CO2 argument. That case was build on circumstancial evidence - evidence that has been proven to be false. The glove didn't fit. As far as Kyoto goes, the only problem it would solve is that it would give Canada a true identity. A nation of fools.
  20. Perhaps, I guess it depends on your definition of disaster. The known damage is that it will take an estimated $10B- $20 billion out of Canada to meet an objective; not solve a problem or make any difference to the environment. Maybe idiotic is a better term. As far as Baird's claim about layoffs goes, it is a reasonable assumption. It will be an opportunity for corporations to cut their labour forces without looking like the bad guy in order to maintain or increase shareholder profits. With NASA correcting it's data in the last month, wouldn't you agree that the entire reason behind Kyoto is suspect? The most reasonable approach at this time would seem to be the original Clean Air Act, that put less urgency on CO2.
  21. The results of NASA correcting its data is akin to finding no weapons of mass destruction. Will Gore downgrade his alarmism or stay the course?
  22. Source is Arar's own web site, maherarar.ca. To correct myself he admitted to meeting him a few times, not once. Saying we don't imprison people who look guilty is naive. From site:
  23. This is a true statement. Only in this case, the received wisdom is that global warming is manmade. Anyone who disagrees is demonized as a denier. Darwin challenged religion, just like "deniers" of today.
  24. http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/columni...d1-2fefe0905363 Sorry, Al.
