If I threaten that I might beat the shit out of you if you walk out your front door and you don't come outside, I guess I'm not doing anything wrong. After all, it was your decision for you not to come outside, not mine. I didn't obstruct you at all.

He called the 401 and railway "targets." That's obstruction.

Have you read this book yourself? If so, what did you think of it - was the evidence as compelling as the advertising? His challenge requires "convincing a committee of "people expert in afterlife evidence" to agree that their claimed evidence has been rebutted "beyond any doubt."" So all you have to do is convince experts that they aren't experts. Sounds easy enough.

If spirit and identity are not one in the same, then "you" are gone when you pass away. "You" don't continue on in another life. "You" don't get 72 virgins. "You" only live once. On the grounds of reason, I suppose.

Will you let your child play with a toy gun?
noahbody replied to betsy's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Some of my fondest memories as a child were playing cowboys and Indians, cops and robbers, star wars, etc. I'd enjoy a Popeye cigerette on occasion as well. Personally, I think playing with toy guns (not replicas) helps kids understand the difference between fantasy and reality. It's educational and also introduces trust and responsibility. -
The near death experience concept relies on the body having a spirit. If you want to know if this is true, visit a hospital and observe a patient who's oxygen level is being slowly deprived. You'll observe the personality of the patient changes, drastically, to the point the 'spirit' of the person you knew, no longer exists. Utter nonsense. You're simply making up a false premise and jamming a conclusion into it. The spirit, by definition, has nothing to do with the brain. Actually no, I'm not making up a false premise. I'm speaking from witnessing my father 'change' next to death due to pnemonia, then, watching his personality return as antibiotics enabled him to breathe properly. The spirit has everything to do with the identity of a person. Identity will change with a slow deprival of oxygen. A spirit, if true to its definition, would not require oxygen to exist and would not change if oxygen were to be deprived.

Including Mohammed Elmstry in this story and having him characterize the incident as racial is a solid example of piss-poor journalism. From http://www.montrealmuslimnews.net/transcript.htm : "COREN: Anyone over the age of 18 in Israel is a valid target. ELMASRY: Anybody above 18 is a part of the Israeli army... COREN: So everyone in Israel and anyone and everyone in Israel, irrespective of gender, over the age of 18 is a valid target? ELMASRY: Yes, I would say." My only complaint is "why is this guy still in the country?"

Is atheism the New Evangelism?
noahbody replied to fellowtraveller's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Religion was also used by Hitler to gain support for war. Self-serving or not, it played a role. Saying WW2 had nothing at all to do with religion is false. "We have experienced a miracle, something unique, something the like of which there has hardly been in the history of the world. God first allowed our people to be victorious for four and a half years, then He abased us, laid upon us a period of shamelessness, but now after a struggle of fourteen years he has permitted us to bring that period to a close. It is a miracle which has been wrought upon the German people.... It shows us that the Almighty has not deserted our people, that He received it into favour at the moment when it rediscovered itself. And that our people shall never again lose itself, that must be our vow so long as we shall live and so long as the Lord gives us the strength to carry on the fight." (Adolf Hitler, in a speech to the "Old Guard" of the Party at Munich on March 19, 1934) -

Was WW2 not about religion at all? "I am convinced that I am acting as the agent of our Creator. By fighting off the Jews. I am doing the Lord's work." Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf -

Perhaps you'd like to take another stab at reformatting that. I think you just missed an opportunity to blame Harper for my poor formatting. -

Yes, it reads like a Liberal press release. It didn't make the release http://newsroom.accenture.com/article_disp...article_id=4556 Key programs are still on the agenda. Good. It says perceived gap. Where would this perception come from? The media perhaps? Articles like this? This seems positive to me. How about you? Maybe they haven't seen the Service Canada commercials yet. -
Yes. He always treated it as a 'low profile' thing. Most likely, but he never officially 'came out'. Still married, to a woman, IIRC. I think his wife's name is Doug, but I could be wrong.

Harper Government Loses Gold Standard Rating

The real story behind this article is how biased our media has become. Here's how Accenture reported their findings: "RESTON, Va; June 18, 2007 – The governments of Singapore, Canada and United States do the best job of delivering on the promise of customer service, according to a global research report released today by Accenture (NYSE: ACN)." ..."“Singapore and Canada continue to lead the world in terms of customer service maturity, as they have in previous country rankings,” said David T. Roberts, executive director of Customer Relationship Management in Accenture’s Government operating group. “Each continues to evolve its customer service strategies with an eye toward continuous improvement in each of the four key areas we identified in this year’s report: knowing the customer, making the connections, aligning your people, and not doing it alone. Moreover, Singapore and Canada do the best job of educating their citizens on their customer service initiatives, which results in more favorable citizen perceptions.” Overall, Singapore (No. 1) leads the first tier of country rankings in the report — which includes services ranging from taxes to community centers to pensions — followed closely by Canada (No. 2), which held the No. 1 position in the last country rankings, in 2005. Both countries have strong and compelling visions of value-led, citizen-centric service. With citizens’ opinions given substantial weight in this year’s evaluation process, the scores for Singapore and Scandinavian countries (No. 4 - No. 7) rose over their previous rankings." And that's the rest of the story. I'm Paul Harvey. -
Are you saying our current government is still Liberal?

He meant "forced out of power" as they were in 2001. Here's a good summary of the reconstruction effort: http://www.nato.int/issues/afghanistan/fac...st_develop.html

Uh, you're wrong. Water is a shared jurisdiction because it crosses various jurisdictions including into the U.S. and beyond. http://www.parl.gc.ca/information/library/...3-e.htm#federal As far as your last statement, I have no idea what you are talking about. This isn't all media led and the faster the Tories learn this, the better it will be for them. If Manning is on them about the environment, it should make it clear that they should get a clue. If the issue is they should be paying for the use of water (and I agree that's a good idea) this is a provincial matter (so I'm right). The provinces own the water as a resource. There is shared jurisdiction on the environmental and international water fronts.

Harper Government Loses Gold Standard Rating
noahbody replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It just shows that the Harper government can't provide the gold standard level of service of the previous governments did. Singapore, that bastion of free enterprise that many in the right point to has passed Canada. Didn't our health care ranking drop to 30th under the Liberals? I don't even think they give you a green ribbon for that. Mabye, a brown one. -
"Ed Stelmach, elected Alberta Premier last fall on a platform of greater control over oil-industry practices, said in his first official appearance in Fort McMurray last week that the government is quietly meeting with oil-industry leaders to spell out that water will be a top agenda item during his tenure." http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/financi...004f59d&k=67793 I think the water issue falls under provincial jurisdiction. I'd say holding the Liberals accountable for their record on the environment would mirror Canadians holding the Mulroney PCs accountable for their failings. The dismissing of the environment plan by the media because the don't like Harper mirrors them dismissing the policies of Manning because of his voice.

Canada in Afghanistan: Are we doing this right?
noahbody replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
"In the last three months alone, over 210 police officers have been killed and 330 wounded, according to Afghanistan’s Ministry of Interior (MoI)." Doesn't this suggest they they do want change and are willing to die for it? -

No quick fix for equalization between provinces.

Making health care efficient and lessening the need for equalization would be a good first step.
