  1. Nomination battles in the press such as this one, don't give the public a fuzzy warm feeling.
  2. I think you have clearly presented conditions that are required to achieve victory. Some here in these thread have been laughed at for mentioning such measures. However, other posters here whom I disagree with on many aspects of this campaign would also disagree with some of your proposals above. Note how many things have you listed, that have not been done in two concurrent campaigns. There are many in the government and the military south of the border whom would agree with your above comments.
  3. Markham, Burlington and York South Weston are being contested in Bi Elections. Will Markham go back to the Conservatives? Will Burlington Remain Conservative? Is York South Weston going to Remain Liberal or Can the Conservatives knock them out?
  4. Are you certain you didn't mean, the Bush's of the world have an abject lesson as to what can happen if you play fast and loose? I don't think dictators are nearly as worried about being toppled today as they were shortly before the Iraqi invasion. Infact, none appear to shaking in their boots, and rogue nations are now actively developing and testing nuclear weapons at an accellorated pace. Even the displaced Taliban, isn't shaking in their boots.... Don't use a failed invasion/occupation as a measure of huffing and puffing, as if this is producing good manners from rogue states... OR ELSE!!!!
  5. I don't follow you? The encouraging part is keeping 1 of 3 seats? Or losing 2 of 3 seats? It isn't good, it isn't good for the party, and the sooner it goes away the better.
  6. Jordan a credible nation? Jordan fights Islamic terrorism same as Syria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Algeria, Tunis, Morroco, Pakistan (Well, these guys go after the ones that want to kill Mushy and continue to support Islamic Terrorism vs fight it), and formerly Iraq, only there having a hell of a time today. If Jordan was to transport Arar to a willing Syria, whom at that time were trying to get in the US good books , then Jordan will do as requested by the United States. Jordan has no reason to expose their own complicity in the Arar affair and would be stupid to do so. If you are suggesting that Arar was not tortured, and that the Consular officials, believe that Syria Doesn't torture prisoners, then feel free to believe such. Regardless of whether Arar benefits or not, even if he didn't get a penny from us, I believe that the Syrian Government should be held accountable, for their actions. We didn't torture him, our RCMP were incompetent. Geoffrey, you and August1991 are free to believe and discuss how Arar ended up in Syria.
  7. Maybe you are missing the point. Seats are hard enough to get, let alone hold in a riding that doesn't have strong conservative traditions. I don't think they want to lose this seat, and wait 46 years, to get it back. Doe it look bad? Yeah, it looks terrible. Is it encouraging? NO.
  8. The Environment is sitting at the top of voters minds and without some good policy initiatives in the current term, Harper will not get a 2nd term to supplant the efforts of Mulroney. This is why I fully believe Harper will do something this term, and why they have come out swinging against Dion. I also think that the attack adds are working. They are trying to paint the Liberals as the Non Environment Party. Ah full circle between tweedle dee and Tweedle DION. Mulroney was pressured by a strong environmental movement in the 80s. Alot was accomplished, and there is no doubt, that as a government Figure Head, Mulroney lead the charge, particularly challenging Reagan.
  9. The Federal Government is not your "agent". I have read your opinions regarding having Airplanes Built in China. I completely disagree with your position. I am a tax payer too. I want value, security and Jobs for my tax dollars. Price isn't everything.
  10. I am sure it happen just that way. Are you really that naive? Because that would put you in the same position as you claim Arar to be.
  11. I have to agree with the above. I can easily find tax leakage in other areas. While there is a major concern with regards to income trusts, I haven't seen the proof. I have seen the fear of the government wondering what will happening when others followed suit in the income trust parade. Ricki votes for the party, they determine the policy or the platform. Its a one track voting pattern, with no possible options. So if the party says NO, then it's good, or if the party says YES, then its good. Trust is put in the party. Unfortuneately for some whom actually put their money behind the parties words, they are out alot of cash. Certainly sounds like a Conservative principle. Liberals Straddling the fence sounds Liberal I think this is the killer. Productivity and investment in Canada is declining. This is a problem that needs to be addressed and it is more serious than many Canadians understand. I find many of these arguments with regards to income trusts to be beyond my scope without a lot of research to be quite frank. However,There needs to be a way to encourage more foreign investment in Canada. Without the investment, you won't see the productivity. But the CPC flip flop, did more damage to the above problems then Liberal inaction or NDP opposition to Income Trusts. I was very surprised by the speed at which the decision was made. If it was politically motivated, then CPC strategists, must be gambling that the fallout from CPC voters and income trusts investers will be lower than the gains made by swaying people from other parties into the CPC tent, with this announcement. I don't know if that was the intent or not. I agree with this statement. Regardless there are intelligent business/corporate advisors and strategists within the CPC like any other party. These people would have been the voices behind the Party Platform to not touch income trusts. What happened to their voices?
  12. While you may be laughing, Stephen Harper is being dragged kicking and screaming into the climate debate. He first questioned the science and is now moving towards accepting climate change and its human component. This reminds me of "only Nixon can go to China". Yes, the more he does something with regards to climate, the more credibility he will have. And yes he is going to do something, because he wouldn't be trying to expose Dions record, if he choose to do nothing himself. I don't think you will be laughing in the future. I could be wrong, but I am betting that Conservatives will actually doing something about the environment
  13. The NDP were correct? or Someone isn't completely informed on the tax revenues lost To income trust conversions? Has Flaherty proven that breaking the promise is in the mass electorates benefit?
  14. Your going to tell me you never voted for him?
  15. Actually now that I reread your comments. CPC says they support income trusts before election. CPC eliminates them after election Women says she lost $70,000. People can decide who has more credibility. The Government or the women.
  16. If she is representative of most investors in Income Trusts that would have been what happened. You don't know her but you are willing to take her word at face value only when it supports your viewpoint? Shall I insert the word "Allegedly" to make you happier? I was typing on the fly while watching it on televison. So, Garths standing there and she's telling the cameras she's lost $70,000. I dunno, call her a liar if you like. I am not the one p**** off.
  17. Don't worry about the timing. It is a good article. I am not surprised by the content. He has put forth this argument in different formats for years. I can remember reading his commentaries and books always reminding Canadians of our strong military traditions and that we didn't cut our teeth peacekeeping. He is a proud Canadian military historian, and we don't have enough of those. But what needs to be understood, is the power of the myth, and how it bothers some of those in the military and certain historians.
  18. And they made 65,000 of that loss back within the next month. Very important omission. Convenient too. I don't know the women on the microphone. You have information on her investments?
  19. They didn't lie, they misled voters. They told them before the election, what they would do. Essentially they were against the NDP position on income trusts. Once in power, one doesn't expect a Conservative Party to adopt and NDP position, particularly when they campaigned against it. So, they are in power, people feel secure, and have been investing this past year, and WHAMMO. SUCKER!!! As they say, I can't believe, I believed a politician. Their appear to be more facts that may support income trusts? Would a reversal again, occur. Where would government credibility fall? I see the income trust supporters mounting a strategic campaign. I am quite surprised myself. These people are pretty ticked off CPC supporters and their dissappointed hasn't faded away yet. Gosh, the CPC made a "mistake", and some people are out 70,000 overnight from their future. I watched Garth Turner backing them personally. Ralph Klien added to the fold. At least the NDP was honest about their position.
  20. Just watched Ralph Klein state that the only way for Harper to redeem himself is to reverse the income trust position. He spent alot of time slamming the decision. Jason Kenny came in to present the government position.
  21. More general information with regards to problems in solving Afghanistan. WCSH6.com While taking into consideration the analysis prior, the need to talk to lower level tribal leaders is necessary in order to sway them into Karzais fold, and not the Radical Taliban leader Omar, and not the Former Pashtun Leader Hekmatyar. The latter being much worse than the Taliban.
  22. A good analysis. Full Report http://www.iht.com/articles/2007/01/31/opinion/edjones.php
  23. I am against the Afghan war in its current political direction. I like this article because it puts a name and a face behind our actions. It slams people whom tend to disregard the fact that there are families/friends that are insulted and good people whom are reduced to non person status with simple words such as "poor sod". Mercer gave it to her, and she deserved it.
  24. He was also slamming DION for his response, oh yeah, there wasn't any.
  25. Rick Mercer has politicians on his show. It gives them a chance to exert a little humour and warms them up to the public. Nobody has a problem commenting on his "rants" which if you don't get it, it is a COMEDY show, and people get all wound up. Oh, he is pro this or anti that. He made Dion Look like a fool in one rant. But when politicians are on the show, it's nice to see them doing comedy at no ones personal expense. If you are suggesting banning all comments by Rick Mercer, Comedian, go ahead and put it in the rules and guidlelines. It was a funny show, and made good fun on her attractiveness. Guess your easily put off. Also following RM, Stockwell Day was a very good straight man on 22minutes. But then I would be reviewing another comedy show. Lighten up
