The reprocussions of PM Chretiens team calling BUSH an Moron, had little effect in Canada/US relations short of selling newspapers for an hour in the states and a week in Canada. The repercussions of Parrish, that it had less effect on her career then her challenging Martin. Both now Has Beens. The repercussions of Harpers "Good Diplomacy" would have resulted in Canada being in Iraq. Hardly a comparison.
-
No, it had more to do with this, and I will put it in terms that people that know Chretianise can relate to. The proof is in the proof, and if you got good proof, its proven. Or the US wouldn't show us anything, which was unusual for a Government looking for other Coalition partners. The presentation by Colin Powell drove those in the Know, more away from the cause then towards it, because the evidence contained cheap frauds, and nothing substantive that Iraq had WMD. Hardly an Argument today. It is proven.

Guess that depends on if you lived in Iraq or not

This is not an intentional way of trying to hide something. Often you will read that a Nato convoy was attack, a Nato Soldier injured or killed. Eventually when the details are known, they are filtered to the country of origin. This has occurred with Canada as well. You may read of an attack on a NATO convoy and then in the following days news read about a Canadian Injured or Killed in an Attack in Kabul, Kandahar etc.

If you read about the Taliban, you would know that the US didn't help them come to power.

I know you are interested in this stuff. So FYI I typed this out. To flesh out above. Murphys Law

I know you were excited to go over again. Get all your drinking in now.

The Balkans have been a trouble zone since time began. It certainly is an accomplishment that there has been a lasting peace there. I would agree that there are similarities to compare. Both dealing with the collapse of a strong totalitarian leader. Both having Mujahideen running around cutting off heads. Iraq is going to need more than faith. I really don't know how much more to compare it to the Balkans, but certainly the ethnic rivalries were/are prominant in both Civil Wars. I guess the difference is the method of learning how to deal with collapsing states engaged in ethnic cleansing. Bosnia collapsed on its own accord internally with the fall of YugoSlavia. It was not touched off by external forces, such as the USSR, as happened in Afghanistan. Iraq was touched off by external forces, whom are being blamed for invading on a lie, not fullfilling their promise of a better life for Iraqis, and are now held as the Cause of all the internal problems that face Iraq. Econonic, Political and Ethnic whether deserved or not. I don't believe in Bosnia, that foreign forces were seen as the problem to such a degree that various factions set up a concerted effort to expell the foreign forces in daily attacks.

That didn't factor into the decision to increase deployment in Afghanistan.

Well, there you have it. The 2 NDP voters are gone nobody left

The Conservatives will put forth a budget that Liberals would drool over. Income tax reductions, alot of the stuff Preston Manning and Mike Harris have been trodding around, much of which Martin Liberals did in the past, and would have continued in future had they maintained office. The Liberals will be questioned on what trivial reason they won't support the government. The NDP aren't going to see an Conservative budget that will fit their base. If the Conservatives do put forth a budget that the NDP can accept, both the Conservative and NDP concessions would have to have more pluses then negatives for both parties bases. While possible, it is unprobable wishful thinking. The Conservatives aren't going to budge with the NDP on the Environment. They would have shown some ground by now. They are going to use this remaining NDP support to buy some time to reinvent the old Liberal Environment policies, call it there own, and maybe even do something about it. So, who are the Conservatives going to Dance with on the budget?

Yes, torture bad. I believe I have said this before, and I concur with your thoughts and add that the RCMP provided false information and continued to do so as demonstrated in this thread. The Syrians tortured him. It is a lawsuit, not a settlement. Canada's complicity and fiscal compensation will be determined in court. Compare 37 million, to some 900 million, an American is suing us for, because he can't cross the border without harrassment. Hell, he ain't a Canadian, is being turned away to his own country, where they WON'T torture him, erm, they shouldn't any ways. Torture bad

Gerald Bull. Lots of intelligence, and no wisdom. Actually too much intelligence surrounding him, thus the Israelis whacked him for being a Saddam Patsy.

Tories Announce Energy Efficiency Plan
madmax replied to Ricki Bobbi's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Then 10 months were wasted, to input something pretty much intact that was dismantled. -
Funny, many Conservative voting friends of mine, were happy we didn't go to Iraq either. Not because we were a kindly more peaceful nation. But because the US case for war was full of it. And today, few Conservatives would advocate us being there. Maybe just you. Sorry but being a lapdog, isn't the answer either.

I thought I would take a moment to acknowledge that it takes courage to lay it on the line like you did in 1988. I read in Wiki, that this was the Year the NDP plummetted and the Liberals took up the slack. Great gains for the party that year even if the PCs won the government. So what's your take, time to run again
-
I think it is too early to tell whom to vote for particularly if one is undecided. Ontario, is going to tank real real bad this year. About four major industries a week are closing. The Economic record isn't fantastic but it could plummet below moderate expectations. The Hydro Policy, I don't believe has been figured out in 4 years. McGuinty won't know how to campaign, until Hampton makes up a platform to steal. John Tory has been very active. Most notably his lack of committment to anything and everything, has made him appear like a Liberal vs a Red Tory. (Oh to have that last name). However, he has time to create a platform, and one might figure he has just been feeling out the radical elements and the moderates. I don't believe he has gained any traction with the radicals, but he did listen politely. Howard Hampton has talked more sense in the past 6 or 7 years then people give him credit for. However, to think that there will be a big change in NDP fortunes in the coming year, leaves lots to be desired. I think current polling numbers may actually not change come voting.
-
Well, since John Tory has said he wants to model the next government like the Davis Conservatives.. I wonder how much to read into that wink? Maybe this is influencing your support for one whom wants to model himself after a doofus. Nudge Nudge, Wink Wink, say no more.

A very close friend of mine, in the Conservative Youth back in the early 80s benefited from this program. I know he valued the experience. I have often wondered since that time, if Katimavik has always been around, or always funded. Any info appreciated.
-
So, what party would cutting Katimavik be good for? The Conservatives have no problem cutting programs they don't approve and letting the media anounce those cuts. The Conservatives approve of the program. Your speculation about the CBC conspiracy and Children Striking is more about you then the reality.

Conservatives to deal with Fiscal Imbalance.
madmax replied to Ricki Bobbi's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Not certain if this is a promise kept, or one kept one broken with regards to the fiscal imbalance. Did Harper Promise 100% to Sask.? -
I just thought I would pull your ealier post from a few days back. Just to keep people on topic of what we are discussing and how to achieve that goal. .
