  1. Those are difficult circumstances. It is tough when you have a message or cause and that message doesn't get promoted by the media. The media does dictate what makes "news" and what doesn't. Now, stop being so pessimistic. I thought you would know better then to talk about losing the seat before the election day. You are one of those die hard Liberals, who are the harder on your own party then the opposition.
  2. How many people lost money on this? What is the total losses combined?
  3. Things sound absolutely terrible there. I would be surprised if things are as bad as you say they are that the public would allow the government to stick around for a 3rd term. I don't believe it is wise to call people stupid, morons, misguided morons, and then wishing the worst upon them. So I take it you are voting conservative?
  4. What's a stay at home mom worth? When my mom stayed home to take care of me, it was worth $1Million. When she had a job, It was worth nothing to me. I would rather have had mom home, no matter what. But I understand the reasons why she worked. There is no price you can attach to a mom who is able to stay at home. It's priceless, and difficult to achieve as many families require dual incomes, or moms whom have to work to support their family on a single income.
  5. Wow, I have been busy of late, and just catching up on what I can here. This thread is really interesting. It would seem that Elizabeth May is completely over the top. I find her comments offensive to sanity and reason, if one is seriously concerned about the environment. I cannot determine if she is doing politics any differently then the other parties, but her comments appear as ham fisted as some of the worst ones by Stephen Harper in recent weeks. She certainly lacks judgement and respect for others. I would not wish to be too closely associated with her or her party. I believe Dion has made a serious error in judgement and just watch them start to disassociate and maybe even back an "independant" Liberal in Central Nova. Someone should be doing damage control, but I believe for Elizabeth May there will be many more major gaffs like this one in the coming year. It almost appears that Gord Pearson is running very fast in the opposite direction. Regardless of all this wild and crazy talk from their leader, they seem to be steady in the polls. I am not certain why, but I believe it has more to do with the weakness of the CPC to have serious action on Climate Change. They have yet to be successful in getting this monkey off their back. Perhaps they should move their policy closer to what the NDP are suggesting, and just let Elizabeth May talk her way out politics.
  6. WHAT!!! WHAT'S THIS!!! YOU WON'T BE VOTING NDP!!! AFTER ALL THAT WONDERFUL TALK ABOUT GARY DOER? DON'T TELL ME YOU GOING TO VOTE. liberal I MUST HAVE DREAM'T YOU WERE GOING TO VOTE CONSERVATIVE THIS TIME
  7. Yeah, that's no fun. Reform had approx 18% of the vote in 1993. How much of that vote was concentrated? 2.5 million people is a significant amount of people.
  8. I have been looking at the poll, over and over again and reading the above. I think I have been outpointed. Nah, I didn't like Mulroney at all by 1993 and just can't get past that fact. Michael, It is demonstratable that you have chosen the middleground on this. I just can't be that accomodating towards Mulroney.
  9. The rise of anti-antisemtism? Is this a just a typo?
  10. ANA= Afghan National Army Once a prisoner is taken, you do not kill or torture them. The Afghan forces have always taken prisoners. It is how they do business. Determine the value of the prisoner. If the prisoner has no value, then this is bad news for the prisoner. Unfortuneately if the prisoner has value, he could be released, which is not uncommon for the Afghans.
  11. I don't believe they would have stayed fringe. I don't think Progressive Conservatives could provide the anti-dote to the Reform. Although they used the "Scary" tactics as well. Mulroney campaigned on JOBS JOBS JOBS. Chretian campaigned as if he where the new Ed Broadbent. Against FTA, Against GST. Kim Campbell appeared to have no control over the campaign and admitted as much. The ads became a lesson for everyone. None of which changes Mulroney in my eyes. You can be one of his supporters. According to this local poll but you don't have alot of company.
  12. Life has many ironies. Like the smoker who is smart enough to know smoking causes lung cancer but isn't wise enough to stop. Glad to see you found the internet service. Welcome back.
  13. That started the death spiral that lead to the rise of Reform. Mulroney can't be blamed for how terrible the PCs 1993 campaign was. Nobody was commenting on the 1993 campaign. Reformers existed before that. Figleaf is Correct. Mulroney Alienated the west into creating the Reform Party. (WIKI) That's pretty clear. Reform were upset with the PC party during the Mulroney era. Mulroney wouldn't have made any difference in the results, I still think they would have held 2 seats at the end of the election and not ZERO, because that is the only difference Mulroney could have added. Kim Campbell was a breath of fresh air. She brought the PC party forward, and they rose in the polls. Unfortuneately Campbells candidness regarding the issues your brought forth, Jobs and the economy, put the reality back into Canadians of just what the Progressive Conservatives had done to Canadians and the pain they would have to suffer for this major restructuring of the economy. Essentially the message was, you have lost your job, your lively hood, and anything you buy now will be taxed by us too and you might have a new job in the service sector in 7 years. Good luck in your future endeavours.
  14. You didn't live through this era did you?
  15. Created the largest tax grab since the creation of income tax.
  16. Mulroney never did get voted out. But thanks for trying. Mulroney escaped the horror of a third election. I believe his popularity was around 9%. I recall going out for Halloween many years later, and someone had a Mulroney mask on. I couldn't believe how angry I became just seeing that mask. I was surprised when just a few years back, before the CPC merger, when Joe Clark was trying to speak fondly of Mulroney and people started booing. That's Joe Clark for you. Absence makes the heart grow fonder. I can wait some more.
  17. I agree with the above. Econonics is affected by the environment. The environment can be affected by economics. I have no idea of Suzukis economic background. I do know that there was a well respected economist whom spoke loudly about the need to act and the effects on the economy if we failed to act or acted insufficiently. I have no idea regarding Bairds knowledge of the environment. I would take Suzukis opinion of the environment over John Bairds any day of the week. John Baird has not held this file for very long. He is on a crash course and has a policy to fullfill. That is exactly what David Suzuki is. David Suzuki is an environmental activist. John Baird, on the other hand put out a hilarious piece of propoganda to scare the pants off everyone, so that he could sell his very limited environmental plan. This issue has been hijacked by fearmongerers on both sides. The Liberals had to put into a Bill that action had to occur and be completed within 4 years. The CPC pretended it had to occur in 1 year, seeing that the Liberals were being hypocritical. Neither option were realistic and both plans were pure posturing to push forward their agendas. For the CPC it was to invoke fear in job loss and the economy and based a bunch of nonsense around inflated prices and action by 2008. For the LPC it was more about, hey, remember us, hey, were green, hey, we like May, hey, you should do this by 2012 because we didn't do anything, so you better do it, because, hey, we got Dion now and we are Green, we really mean it this time. KNowing full well, that if they were in government they too would not try to invoke this plan in such a wreckless manner after having sat on their hands for 10years. The CPC would like this issue to go away. It won't. They know it won't. The proposal by Baird, is a crawl. There is a pace that can be done to start the process to address climate change that will include walking. The proposals by the Gliberals is one to run all the way to economic ruin first, although the Liberals really don't mean it. It is just talk. Does Baird go far enough? He hasn't as an environment minister. Does this mean it's over or that we are going to start sprinting after years of sitting on our hands. I don't think so.
  18. too much detail.... way too much detail...
  19. There is a poll in todays Globe and Mail. Here are the results so far: Are you willing to pay more for appliances, cars, electricity and some other things to combat global warming? Yes, global warming is a serious problem. (45%) 3985 votes Yes, but only a little bit more. (18%) 1563 votes No, polluters should pay, not me. (20%) 1807 votes No, global warming is not a serious problem. (17%) 1552 votes Cast your vote at http://www.theglobeandmail.com/
  20. This is such a funny thread title. Conspiracy theorists delight or people with little to talk about. Seems election fever is over, even the postings in these forums are going down. But.... What if...
  21. Tens of millions of dollars stolen by this thief. He is getting off easy. He acted like a complete moron during the gomery inquiries.
  22. Such a dismissive statement. This isn't about a leader trying to raise the moral of the troops and the country. This is a Prime Minister and Cabinet trying to defend the undefendable. I am willing to believe that O'Connor is going to become a casualty of this. On MDL they are saying he wasn't allowed to answer a question. After the performance of the past few days, and no one having any confidence in him. I would say he is toast.
  23. Any new updates on the campaign?
  24. I have had it with you guys. Whether you like it or not, you are going to do your part on Global Warming by reducing energy consumption. Now just "FLICK OFF". Could I get turfed from here for that? Flick off? There's a few times this phrase could be helpful around here Initially, I read the newspaper accounts and thought this was a bad idea. Then I learned what the campaign was about. I agree with Geoffreys comments on this one.
  25. O'Connor should resign. He doesn't have a grasp of the file, which given his background is troubling. I watched him on TV, he looks like a deer in the headlights. Then the STockwell Day episode. I thought that McKay would then be standing up, maybe even shuffled into O'Connors portfolio. Regardless of ones opinion on this, (who cares about Afghans torturing Afghans), that is held by some on this forum, the government is looking like the keystone cops.
