  1. I wondered if that wasn't the case. If he somehow succeeded, no loss, if he fails, Harper feasts on rotted flesh.
  2. Leafless usually isn't pulling a Dion. But I can put the thread title to good use.
  3. The LPC and NDP do not have a "coalition" with the BQ. The CPC do not have enough seats to forma "Stable minority government" which is why the GG granted Prime Minister Harper a Prorogue until Jan 29th. The LPC and NDP do not have more seats then the CPC. The CPC rely upon the BQ much like the Coalition. Either party receiving support of the BQ has majority control and will pass legislation. Of course, I know you know this, you just want to continue a false myth.
  4. Yah THink? Not only more knowledge, but the optics of a foreign born Haitian refugee (IIRC) as GG sound great at first, until you discover her and her husbands ties to the Quebec Separtist movement. Even if the GG operated in a fair and unbiased manner in her ruling, it will always be pointed out the ties to the Separtists. Fiction writers cannot come up with this stuff. Find a better life in Canada, support its breakup through the french sovereigntist movement, and then represent the Anglo Queen with the position to hold the country together.
  5. I think I have received two reasonable answers. I Thank smallC concurrently. I do believe, unlike the forum title, that regardless of whether the coalition was chosen, or the ProRoguing, that people would accept the GG decision. The ProRoguing could not have been taken lightly. On top of that, regardless of the controversy behind it and the educational debates going on between lawyers etc, I do believe that the public will accept the break and infact want it vs have their parlimentary system explained to them. It should be done in school so that nonsense such as a "coup" is never used again in a propoganda war, undermining our system of government. January 29th one of three things can happen. A bill will pass, the government may fall, and if it does, either another government will be formed with the elected sitting MPs or the GG will dissolve parliment and go for an election. It was the public that lost in this foolish game of brinksmanship. That can be found in every single poll I saw. The majority were angry and angry at everyone involved. One thing good about this is that it got people talking about politics, which you couldn't get them interested in in September or October. Sometimes this is what it takes to get people to understand how our government works, and I believe it works better then most other systems. Especially when we have two tone deaf leaders, there is a way out of a self inflicted crises vs a self inflicted wound. At least for now. The Queen need not worry about the colony
  6. I fully disagree with the whiny opening post. Whats done is done....and that is what people wanted to see, some kind of resolution even if it is delaying parliment. The disturbing part of the GG ruling is that we have set the stage for a "Banana Republic". I do wish to see the formal request and reasoning from the Prime Ministers, and the Response from the GG, but what immediately comes to mind, is that anytime a government faces a potential defeat in parliment, the government will just shut down parliment, and continue with business as usual. That is what happens in banana republics. The fact that a government could face a defeat and be replaced by MPs in the house through an accord or coalition is part of our parlimentary rules. To suggest otherwise is pure CPC torokaka designed to fool the general public when it doesn't suit their immediate needs. Beware the banana republic. Lets hope that the GG hasn't helped us take our first step towards one.
  7. This is likely to be one of the last posts or more importantly last time anyone will bother voting in this threadpoll. Should something intriguing happen late January, we may see this poll come back to life.. To the 82 people who voted. Congrats. I will be receiving $1.95 for all your votes. That is $159.90 will be going towards my political policy making convention. The perogies will have put this poll to sleep. I want to thank a few special posters. Alta4ever who was the "unofficial" leader of the anti coalition campaign (and unofficial I HATE JACK cheerleader), and leader of the NO POLITICAL WELFARE, campaign. His 39 votes raised 76.05 and this money will go to me by default. I am against political party funding like Alta4ever, but I am also a hypocrite and know how many cases of beer his share can buy. I want to thank Argus, who remained sane while under duress and assault from many newcomers to the Web. I want to thank Guyser, for not posting in this thread, or bothering me. Probably didn't vote either. I want to thank everyone on Maple Leaf Web that didn't get overheated, kept cool and let this run its course while keeping on topic. August 1991 for be the first serious poster to a thread that started as a joke. August might have been the first person to recognise something was happening out there, while we were kidding. Over 1000 posts ago, Augusts 1991, "I don't like the wording of the questions" still rings true, as the joke became serious, and the laughter and ironies started to come home, that this is our government messing up badly. On to the poll. There was a split result in the poll, and in truth everyone won. The Liberals did discover vertabraes and they won the poll wit 43 votes, but the minority 39 voters were correct in the outcome. Harper outmanuevered the coalition (For the time being). Those who voted for the leader.... Ain't happening DUDE won, with 34 votes, and for people who didn't know/realize.... that is HARPER, and the result matches the outcome of the brinksmanship. Congrats. Those who voted for Dion? Trailing early, he did rise up to win the 2nd most votes here. He became leader of the coalition, before one was chosen, and you guess right that far, but he did not make it to Prime Minister. If you saw last nights debacle.... I have to wonder what beer your drinking, and email me. I will buy some with my political welfare money, and next time I see Dion on TV, I will drink ONE beer each time he mispronounces a word. This should help me with my anger management progress. Those Ignatieff supporters better get ready, active something and soon. I don't like Iggy, but I don't care anymore. ABD still is first and foremost. Bob Rae, look at these results, and they will continue to convention. Put a fork in him. If he can't compete with Dion, Iggy, Duceppe and Layton, HE IS LAST, then there is no hope in hell of him becoming Liberal Leader. "And that is a good thing." Duceppe, well, I know Alta4ever voted for him in this "Secret Poll", Ha, Ratted yah! But look at the hate being shone on Quebec right now in these forums and you will see how quickly a joke, where it was funny to vote for Duceppe, soon turned bad a few days later, when the BQ is being slagged at every turn. Cooling off is a good thing. Meanwhile Smallc.... Pistols at noon. Ok, that leaves Jack. One of those politicians few choose, few say good words about, and yet the press has put him in the same "evil genius" category they share for Harper. At the same time, the Press has indicated that Layton comes across as the most Prime Ministerial. Read it and weep Alta4ever But, like the votes in this poll, its not going to be a Prime Ministerial Christmas for Mr. Layton.
  8. Double post deleted.
  9. I enjoy watching the ball bounce back and forth. The Coalition forces need to recognise that what has happened is within the rules of parliment and the safeguards built. Just like the Anti-coalition forces must recognise that the coalition has the right to assume power, should the GG grant it, in the event that the CPC lose the confidence of the house.
  10. Repeated for good measure.... Does anyone have a link to Dions Video? I reposted this because I just did about 5 posts and didn't want Michaels Request Missed.
  11. I understand that you want to take the incompetence of Dions ability to supply a tape, know where to go to present the tape, provide one tape instead of two, show up late, take the tape away to re-edit the French Language, come back with STILL one tape, and provide the most useless poor quality footage the planet has ever seen from a leader, and somehow, imply that the CBC was complicit in this is nonsense. To give Dions party credit, they would have been wise to have not brought a tape, and let Harper rest on his words of nothingness. But no, the LPC had to embarrass themselves by providing a Tape LATE, to late for the networks. What happened last night was not GOOD TV for the CBC anymore then it was for CTV. The networks were letdown by the leaders, just like our country has been. If the CBC wanted to Help Dion, they could have just said the 8mm tape is not of broadcast quality and we aren't showing it under any circumstances. Dion ended up with embarrassment of being late and of poor quality. AN F by any measure. The CBC showing, gives the print media even more to write home about. Its media, the politics comes in the commentary spinning, and quite frankly the government always gets the best spin from the media. Especially the CBC.
  12. How about some immoral and conniving as Harper. That should be fine for you.
  13. Perhaps in Content, but anyone can read content. Harpers had no content and a stiff, presentation. Dion, well, GOOF come to mind. Especially considering that he wasn't LIVE!!!
  14. Then Create a Harper thread, if you are only talking about Harper. I saw his speech. It stunk. Now, care to talk about Dion, or did you fail to see it , as it didn't make primetime???
  15. The guy is a useless bumbling buffoon with no business in attempting to be the Prime Minister. The coalition, or the LPC, since I believe it was the LPC caucus that choose him, showed poor judgement in choosing an incompetent and pathetic individual with an inability to communicate as the leader. Don't go blaming the posters here for the presentation of Dion. He had risen from the ashes, and I believe just sucked up all the air and possibly the life out of the coalition. Harper had nothing to do with Dions incompetence last night. Harper put in his own poor showing, only to be outdone by Dion. BRAVO!!!
  16. They are very popular at Christmas time. YUM! I hope that the PM and all the MPs are not paid during the break.
  17. I would say that the NDP were interested in working with the CPC as much as the CPC was interested in working with the NDP. The BQ was comfortable with the CPC, so I don't know what went wrong there, or perhaps nothing other then the public funding was enough to make any talk become action. The LPC, working with the BQ? That is a hard feat to achieve. The LPC were interested in making parliment work, and not abstaining, so, what does that leave you. They would have to work with the CPC or vote down the Government. The NDP and LPC did not fan the fire. Get real. Who started the fire? The CPC had an excellent opportunity to present a budget, and work with a beaten and defeated LPC in disaray, looking for a new leader. Instead Harper choose to kick a downed opponent in the head! The intent of a policy change wasn't for the benefit of the public, but to KILL the LPC. And it would have. What Harper did was pull the ax out, to cut the head off of the LPC. Don't talk about fanning a fire. The LPC had barely and ash left, and it was the CPC Harper, that fanned the fire and should take total responsibility for creating a political crises, a constitutional crises, and now spread a policy decision into a national unity crises, between East and West. And he is trying to put the Genie back in the bottle as best as he can. I would suggest he is doing a mediocre to poor job at best, vs a Dion helmed coalition.
  18. I don't know how to describe tonights events. Kenny vs Spenny is funny Dumb and Dumber was funny But those are TV shows and an old movie that makes kids laugh at frozen pee. Comparing recent speeches of Obama and McCain, I can only suggest that the current crop of leaders from the Conservatives and Liberals put a whole new meaning to amatuer hour or (Minutes) and Unprofessional or Inept. Is it because we have two leaders named Stephen? Is this the problem. Is this like when we would compare the CFL to the NFL and justified TWO teams named Rough Rider in an 8 team league. Is this the problem. Or are we just currently plagued with the worst crop of leaders in the history of Canadian Politics. Leaders with no accomplishments and no vision. Losers who rose to the top or Bullies who got there and didn't know what to do other then continue being a bully once there. These two clowns aren't funny. I am looking for a Prime Minister and I see two clowns that don't make me laugh. They make me cry and get frustrated. A major speech to the nation and its oh, ah, 4 minutes, says nothing and left the network wondering why they aloted valueable airtime to the Prime Minister. Not to be outdone. Bumbling Stumbling Dion ( Who makes Joe Clark look like a Trapeze Flyer by comparision) can't get his shit together, to send in pre recorded tape. Even then its a pathetic example of someone who is out of his league. Kenny vs Spenny are always challenging and trying to outdo one another, and outfox one another. But they are working together to make funny TV. This is no game. How could the Prime Minister come up so lame. The Coalition, I felt, need not do anything. Well, they took my thoughts a little to seriously. First by not getting the tape to CTV, and then Fife said the content, and you knew he already said it, better then Dion ever could. Harper proved to me tonight, I mean nailed it, that he shouldn't be the Prime Minister. A backroom boy, a Karl Rove, but not the Prime Minister. Dion Proved to me tonight that, well,he proved nothing at all.....and I had no expectations of him, so he had nowhere to go but up in my opinion. And that didn't happen either. I was wrong. There is always something lower then the lowest of expectations. Tonight, amongst my friends, watching TV, I got to be Wrong TWICE. Everyone left Mad and MADDER> Its like life after Gretzky and Lemeiux, no big names, no flash, and no pucks in the net. Its hockey from here in..... At least they play for 60 minutes, the show goes on, and the commentators talk between periods. Tonight they talk for the periods and the Politicians talked the intermission. Its the name that's the problem right, right???? Thats my rant.
  19. There are 80 votes in this poll.... Don't be fooled by moonlighting amatuers. No other poll is going to test the true strength of partisanship on MLW.
  20. Not showing Dion is a plus.....
  21. Get Real!!! Read your post, then your title.
  22. And maybe a spanking. He may like being spanked, if it comes with a cushy cabinet seat .... nudge nudge, wink wink.....
  23. 80 votes. Coalition leading by a slim margin. The votes keep going up for both sides. I would expect after tonights amatuer hour, that the Stephen that participated the least pathetic might gain a sliver of momentum. Stephen Keep the votes coming. Support your party ies? Hey, and 1061 replies..... Heavist thread on the first forum page.... Maple Leaf Web, the bastion of voicing your opinion.
