It's pretty sad/funny that we are having a Senate discussion. Just dropped by the Local Timmy's earlier. Man, it just seems like our politicians are totally out to lunch with the electorate. How quickly the mood swings are. Yikes
-
Gosh, thats terrible. And since many of the Senators of christmas past are from an Era when the CCF existed, there have never been any of them in the Senate either. And that's a good thing. The Senate is a place were exiting Prime Ministers put the failed helpers into cushy jobs. And to keep things quiet, they offer a couple bones to the other parties failed helpers. Nothing like being sent out to pasture... I heard Stephens thinking about it.....
-
And its difficult to tell what that meant. There is no NDP member in the Senate. And therefore, while you may or may not be technically correct on the appointment, however it is clear that the NDP will have nothing to do with those who accept a Senate seat. Which does undermine the comment prior to your point of fact.

Thats rather amusing, coming from you....

No Harper is running scared, that's all.

I have no idea if she was an NDP politician or not. According to reports, she didn't carry an NDP membership. She is not part of the NDP caucus and she does not sit as an NDP member in the Senate. Probably as NDP as Bob Rae, or Dosanjh. Maybe as Liberal as Emerson. Hard to tell. But not a sitting member of the NDP. .....more reason to abolish the Senate.

Why do you say... Ottawa when it was the Paul Martin Liberal Government? -
Considering the NDP will not accept Senate Seats, you shouldn't have a worry. That said, To think that this is front and foremost on Harpers mind, suggests to me, that he believes he has lost the confidence of the house and believes he is going down in January. Every lame Duck Prime Minister, feels the need to get their Senators chosen on the way out the door.

If it didn't taste like water it would be great.

The more I read this thread, the more we need to abolish the Senate.

BoC warns of possible mass home foreclosures

The Bank of Canada announcement is like pretending like they are at the forefront of a prediction. Asleep at the switch is all I have to offer about the BoC. At the same time that I am watching new housing starts continue in my area, while the number of working class people losing their homes is rapidly increasing. HOwever, these things take time. Banks are trying to carry these mortgages, and many people have purchased insurance from loss of job. -
Harper gets really poor advice from people like you and he believes it.

Harper has no challenge from any Conservative in Ontario. There isn't any of his calibre, which doesn't say alot. However, out west and out east are a number of possible replacements who could actually win a majority. These people however would not have had the balls to form the CPC and position in to take government like Harper did in 2006. However, they wouldn't have blown the Sept election and I would be hard pressed to find another elected official of any stripe capable of creating a national crises like Harper has done. There is no other politician who would have stepped so far out of line as to having to run to mommy in peacetime and hide behind her skirt. My view is, it was Harper that brought the CPC to where they are today....Heading a government. I don't believe he is capable of ever reaching his dream of majority. It will take someone with more refined skills to bring in a CPC majority. Harper could win a Majority if he was a Provincial Leader of any Province (OK not Quebec). He doesn't have the royal jelly to win a country. That is why I don't consider Harper a flake. I expect him to resign after his 3rd Minority Government, be he in the Prime Ministers chair or not.
-
From what I have seen Harper dances around the Gay issues. I think he personally avoids the issue with the rank and file, so that he doesn't have to face it. That and he doesn't hesitate to put a Gay person on major portfolios for the CPC.

Sorry to hear about your luck. Really Really sorry to hear about your luck.

Again it is different in every province. With regards to able body people, you can either make it difficult to receive when jobs are available or difficult to stay on.
-
You could be correct Oleg. However, that will depend on each Province. What I think is going to happen is EI (UI for older memories) is going to be revamped. The first changes were announced yesterday, and more are coming. "Your turn at the dole may not be that far off.." Exactly, it is not pleasant to see when the mighty mouths have fallen, but the tune they sing changes when its them and not others.

What do you mean? A flake Like this?? Oh shoot, thats a whole box of Flakes....

Then how could it go grey?
