  1. If some rights were made for a fetus at an agree-upon gestation time-line then you have rights that may contradict each other and hence, nullify the very reason why the abortion law was struck down in the first place.... ie: As the law does not recognize a 'person' until it takes it first breath only the rights of the woman were taken into account for there was no legislation in place that the supreme court could look at for competing rights. Simple legislation could change that situation rather quickly. Look, if your argument is that don't fix it because it is 'too hard' then you can just move on. It is not too hard and virtually every other country in the world provides various examples of how it could be done. I think you are just trolling as you simply do not want any restrictions placed on women in any way in regards to abortion. You are placing your ideaology higher than life and that is your right, but you are wasting your time arguing with me. I do not subscribe to extemist views on this subject.
  2. Eastern and Western Europe. Then I am sure you will be counted as one that would support this legislation then. Thank you
  3. Equally? you should be shaking Israel's hand then because 6 countries attacked it on the same day and were better armed than the Israeli's and Israel still won. Of course, you would have to know your history to know that. Now get out there and start pumping some palms.
  4. It is a nickname for the police that the old timers used to use around here. Not as fun as the racist overtones people have been trying to associate with it - is it? meh
  5. Thanks for putting in a nut-shell what is wrong with the abortion debate in this country.
  6. I am advocating a restriction on abortion after a certain time period of development of said fetus. After that agreed to time period no abortion would be performed unless a medical emergency necessitated one. As to all of your scenarios, it seems to work well for all the countries of Western Europe. If there were no murders in our society, I would still support a law against murder - ergo your argument about it 'aint' broke' is both irrelevant and probably, plain wrong.
  7. Achieveability? what are you talking about? outlawing abortion after brain activity in the fetus aside from a medical emergency is a moderate position. Being legally able to do so up to the moment of delivery in this country right now is most certainly 'broken'. No other western country behaves this way, why do we insist on behaving this way. No rights are absolute and this is an achievable, humane way to achieve balance to this equation.
  8. even one done because the woman 'changed her mind' after 20 weeks is too many. They have brain activity at this point and I think the law should afford them some of the rights that the born have.
  9. A woman is legally entitled to abort up to the moment of delivery right now. The majority are probably done in this instance, but I would support legislation formalizing this practise. I am not interested in the ramblings of Mr. Canada.
  10. so those 60 white pine trees I planted this past fall are bad now? This is sounding like the coffee/sugar/butter debate.. lol
  11. I support a woman's right to choose up to say 3 months or maybe even 4 month of gestation. If she hasn't decided what to do by then, then she is to carry the baby to term at that time barring life threatening medical emergencies. At that time, the fetus would have a right to life too. I think the majority of Canadians would support this. This is pretty much how it is in most European countries.
  12. Lost me on that one? I didn't say reporters weren't allowed to be people, I was inferring that their beliefs shouldn't interfere with their work, you know - being a professional and all? Sorry, I didn't think that this would be hard for people to understand. Rather got caught with his pants down and this will forever taint his image.
  13. No, a journalist is not to have a partisan agenda. Dan Rather had an agenda and exposed it. Ergo, he is not a journalist, let alone a respected one. I supposed you could call him a columnist, but that wasn't the job he applied for.
  14. Agreed. I would support banning abortions after a 20 week gestation period for any other reason than the pregnancy is threatening the life of the woman. Before 20 weeks it can work the same it is now. Hopefully with increased contraceptive use abortions will continue to decline. I do not liek the idea of abortion as a form of birthcontrol, but you got to give to get sometimes. In short, Canada is the only country in the western world that confers ZERO rights for the unborn at ANY stage of development and I think that shuld change. I don't think this has to be a black and white issue and I am tired of zealouts from both sides clouding the issues and preventing progress on this.
  15. So what? What is your point even if I were to concede that it is true?
  16. Yep, I will never support WWF again. They have gone from a credible organization to a blow-hard mouth peace up there with greenpeace. too bad.
  17. 300 innocent Arabs? Why do you think they are innocent? Since Hamas doesn't wear uniforms they are most likely terrorists. I see you didn't read the article in the OP.
  18. That would be stealing from me. I own stoks. You see, I guess I am an anomoly, but I am actually trying to save for my retirement. I guess if you are happy to bitch and moan your whole life for the government to wipe your arse for you then you couldn't care could you? That's the problem with high taxes, they penalize people who take the least and reward those who ask for the most. No problem I guess if you think life owes you something. Myself? I like to take care of my family and help out others who are not able. Your type don't care, life owes you a living and anyone else who has more than you is a greedy, corrupt, fat cat - who you want a piece of. Talk about greed. lol so transparent.
  19. Not sure, but I am guessing you could tell me alot about the suckling, no?
  20. Yes, you are right - Ireland should have minded their own and let their 'better's lead them around by their noses. Ireland is a dynamic economy and as a Canadian example, have gone from a Newfoundland to a BC economy in under 20 years, but yes, I guess you are right, when you don't grow at all it is hard to stop growing for a bit isn't it? unreal.
  21. Really? What if we keep taxes high and their mothers and fathers have no money to have children? How would that work out?
