^^Kind of like modern day Vancouver....or Hongcouver (Spoken from a person that lived there for years). I once was chatting with this guy about Vancouver. He lived there for 5 years and said he would never go back. Of all the cities in this country, Vancouver was by far the most segregated in terms of people culture and the lack of integration.

Layton Says US Elections a Wake Up Call for Tories

So you don't support our troops who fought in World War I, World War II or Korea? None of those were peace-keeping missions either. Very disrespectful... Here! Here! Very well put. Let me put this to all the "peacekeeper lovin' people" out there. What would you have Canadians do in Afghanistan. AND what would you do about the Tabilan in the south? -

A cock is right Jerry. The question I would like to ask these "people". What if those strangers are "not willing" to sit down and have tea and bunns? What do you suggest we do then. The UN was set up for just that. A way to resolve problems without conflict. We've seen the past years the downfall's of the UN. Sometimes you just need to kick someone in the ass to make them listen. Sometimes that person will listen and there will be no need to kick them.

"our candidate". Do you work for the CPC? And your answer is a very poor one. You offer your opinion about the Liberal candidate, the CPC candidate, and conclude that Haligonians are cowards because they didn't vote for the CPC candidate. Absolute nonsense. Yes I did work for his campaign when he was running. Maybe not cowards, but poor judgement. This end of the country has a "Our family always voted for (blank), so we will always vote for them" mentality. That is not a way to live your life. You have to be judgemental and ask question during a campaign. Too many people just accepted what his or her party said and went to the ballot boxes. I was ashamed and frustrated at this city for not being objective. More would just buy into the Liberal advertising and make an assumption that Harper was a scary man and not vote for him, totally pushing aside the platform and valid points we were trying to make for Halifax. On the east coast people are petrified of change, and that is a bad thing in some circumstances. -
Afghanistan Mission - The Right Thing To Do
Cameron replied to jacknameth's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Well, those are some very good points. I don't disagree with you. I think it is time to let NATO and the US to start pulling its weight and commit some troops. But Canada pulling our is NOT the answer nor the solution. -

What is it that makes you say that? Well Gerry. Let me just pick apart the last federal election. The Liberals down here put in a real dog of a candidate. I mean, this guy was just someone they threw in at the last minute for kicks. He was a nice guy but unimaginative, repeated the party line whenever he was asked a question. He didn't have any motivation to work for Halifax. He didn't even really have any motivation during the election. Now our candidate, Andrew House was an amazing person. He was young, smart, articulate, he volunteered overseas with the UN in Kosovo. He had a very good past, and was someone that this city could use in Ottawa. I mean that in a sincere way, not just because he was the CPC candidate. It would have broken the same old, same old that we have with Alexa. Now Mr. Mackinnon (Lib.) got 7000 more votes than Andrew. Now we looked at this for awhile after the election. We weren't even upset that we lost to Alexa, but that the Liberal voters just went out and voted like robots. This guy should not have gotten the amount of votes that he did. At the Andrew camp, we were up everyday at six am working our asses off. The Liberals ran a lackluster campaign and won because people bought into the fear mongering, or something else, we don't even really know why all these people votes for him. It still boggles my mind to this day. Not everyone in this city is a coward, but we seem to have a lot of them. It's dipper central around here. -
Afghanistan Mission - The Right Thing To Do
Cameron replied to jacknameth's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
So Jobin, as with the NDP and the likes of the left. How do you plan on getting those children back in school? I've herd NOTHING but criticism about the mission, BUT NOTHING about an alternative solution? Do you you just want to build schools and send the kids to them with no security? How do you plan on keeping security? Please, someone give us ATLEASED one alternative. A plan...I have seen nothing and I'm getting pissed off that everyone is all show and no go. -

So Normie, what would you have done? The Liberals couldn't close the deal, a NAFTA panel ruled in favour of Canada....would you have sent troops down to the US to reinforce the ruling? How would you deal with an American giant that wasn't about to budge.... I think the deal we got is better than what we had. -
Liberals poll even with Conservatives

I get it.... And how is raising taxes on income trusts fixing it? Because the government was set to loose BILLIONS in tax revenue because of the switch. The taxes don't come into effect until 2011, so it's down the road. What I've been reading through the business journals is saying that it maybe a shock to the system, but the economy will recover. IT were not good for the government and revenue. People may take a hit, but the market will recover. But again, I'm not the expert. A life and death situation for Canada, no. -

I don't want these rightwing ideologues to pull anything out of their ass, thanks! And don't change the Country either. It's a good Country, just needs a little tweaking. It's not some "second-tier socialistic Country" trying to "mask it's second-rate status". as our dear PM said not all that long ago. Nope, just move 'em on down the road as far as I'm concerned. You frustrate me sometimes Garry. Substance, substance....and this IS some second-tier socialist country. In my opinion, of course. -

Afghanistan, Afghanistan. The problem with this little war that is going on, is the Canadian Media and their move toward sensationalism. I have a brother training to Afgh. and he tells me the media is just crap when reporting on what's going on over there. The mission is multi-dimensioned. You have warlords, Taliban, civilians, etc. There needs to be infrastructure built for people, but you have to provide security before you can build that infrastructure. The taliban is not a group that you can sit down and have tea with and talk about the future (a la, Jack Layton). On the other hand, we need the government to come out with a clear plan and to reinforce the notion of security and the need for Canada to continue on with the mission. This is something that I think Canada is not getting the news it needs to hear. The MSM is all about what will sell ad spots and slots in papers. The government needs to consistently tell us what's going on and to bring to light the progress that IS being made over there. -
Crap! I'm not really fond of Democrats. But I will have to say that having one house one way, and the other is better for America.

What makes you think the Cons. are "Pretending to care about the environment"? I see more action than the Libs EVER did. What I see in this environment bill is one that balances economics and the environment. If you just slap restrictions on businesses, they are going to find a way to make up for the loss. That usually comes in the form of less services for the same amount of money, and layoffs. Politics is about balance. You can't have all the cake and not expect to stay thin.
