  1. Northern Ontario just south of Barrys Bay. Hmmm wake up Canada.
  2. Thats my thought on it too, and great for travelling. Its a pain when you find a great station then it fades out and all you can find next is C and W. I like C & W mind you, but I have other interests too. I'm seriously considering getting it with my next car.
  3. Boy, now I've heard everything, please provide a source and some backup for the above statement, and just who are these prominent Americans who believe 'Canada belongs to them"? Puleease tell me. Which Americans want Quebec to separate, I'm interested. As for the CBC, we don't need a state run/controlled media outlet, there are umpteen other newspapers all willing to question and scrutinize. No lack of media scrutinization here.
  4. I'm beginning to feel that way too, why bother trying to help them. Maybe we (western world) should just pull out, cut off most foreign aid, and leave them all to go at it. I suppose, genocide aside, the only way that order can be maintained is by a dictatorship, preferably benign. Absolutely no aid to 'Palestine' is a good start, or any other country which supports or exports terrorism.
  5. Anyone who uses the terms 'neocon nazis' etc. immediatly loses all credibility. Funny.. I feel the same about Far Left Wing and Activist Judges and MSM.. just a side note. I don't get the connection and how it relates to my statement.
  6. Gawd, me too, glad you see it my way. BTW, Harper has to abide by current parliamentry rules and process until he is able to make the required legal changes. I am happy that he has at least forwarded the policy as much as was appropriate or possible at this time. In a minority government it is their only chance of survival unless they want to end up like Joe Clark.
  7. What inquiry proved the Liberals stole 3.8 million? Certainly not the Gomery Inquiry. ROTFL The Gomery inquiry proved plenty. You can't whitewash what happened by trying to deflect the issue back to another party. ROTFLMAO
  8. Reasonable post shoop. I have seen some decent programs on there, and wouldn't want to see it cut back alltogether, but it does need to be more politically representative and not so biased.
  9. This not an attack the poster discussion, I mean what does it add, less than what you accuse me of forsure? Harper can't even get a grip on how to run a government let alone scoot around to Afghanistan, with a nothing but a PR move, he is a Bush "toady" and his actions will show so even more as I said. Harper hasn't governed yet, Parliament isn't open, so that statement is pretty silly. As far as being a Bush 'toady' there is no sign of that yet but I'm sure any move to improve relations would be interpreted as such by closed minds. To Army guy: some people have such an irrational hatred for Bush/U.S. and anything even remotley conservative, it clouds their judgment.
  10. I have to admit, I don't feel comfortable about the whole thing, but some of this seems to be media hysteria. http://www.statesman.com/news/content/news...rtsecurity.html Shipping industry is baffled by port uproar Experts say port security is handled by the government, and foreign companies already control a large share of the cargo-handling business. By Evelyn Iritani, Nicole, Ronald D. White LOS ANGELES TIMES Thursday, February 23, 2006 Trade and security experts said concerns about the transfer of U.S. port operations from Britain's Peninsular & Oriental Steam Navigation Co. to the United Arab Emirates-owned Dubai Ports World were ill-founded because port security is handled by U.S. government agencies, and because foreign companies already control a large share of the U.S. cargo-handling business. Critics of the $6.8 billion deal that would allow Dubai Ports World to run cargo operations in New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Miami, New Orleans and Newark, N.J., say the United Arab Emirates warrants greater scrutiny because of its connections to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. But shipping specialists and business leaders contend that efforts to sink the deal were undermining relations with the Emirates, a key regional ally and primary staging base for the U.S. Navy in the Persian Gulf.
  11. Prime Minister Harper announces nominee for Supreme Court appointment NEWS RELEASE February 23, 2006 Ottawa, Ontario Prime Minister Harper with the Minister of Justice. Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Justice Minister Vic Toews today announced Marshall Rothstein as the Government’s nominee for the Supreme Court of Canada. Mr. Marshall Rothstein, a Federal Court of Appeal judge from Manitoba, was selected from the short-list presented to the previous Government. “Marshall Rothstein’s candidacy was scrutinized by a comprehensive process initiated by the previous Government that included members from all the political parties,” said Prime Minister Harper. “I believe he has the qualifications necessary to serve Canadians well from the country’s highest court.” Mr. Rothstein has agreed to answer questions from an ad hoc all-party committee on Monday, February 27. The televised hearing will mark the first time in Canadian history that a Supreme Court nominee will face questions from Members of Parliament. “I am looking forward to watching the ad hoc committee’s work and listening to Mr. Rothstein’s answers. This hearing marks an unprecedented step towards the more open and accountable approach to nominations that Canadians deserve,” concluded the Prime Minister. Please see below the curriculum vitae for further information on Mr. Rothstein. 12. Maybe from the part of the internet 'he invented' What an idiot Gore is.
  13. This is a lie. Exactly what part of that is a lie, or are you into conspiracy theories too.
  14. Dozens of Sunni mosques attacked Iraqi Police Tied to Death Squads But...but...but...they voted on a Constitution. They're a democracy. Of coarse they are a democracy, Bush's type of democracy where he is desperately selling off huge tracks of lumber on protected lands to raise money for his illegal war. Of course they are a democracy the same as the conservative governments act against the native peopls at Iperwash under the Harris government. Of course it is a democracy just like the one we have now in Canada. Which has exactly what, to do with this topic? Of course it is their own form of democracy, somewhat coarse at the moment, but its a start. Too bad one group prefers a civil war to democratic methods of change.
  15. If everyone thinks and decides like you, oh yes there is that grave danger! Thanks to the likes of Western Standard who have the courage to stand up to the point of risking public ire (and profit), in a very liberal-minded society. Not only are you tampering with freedom of speech/press...but with your proposal, you are also tampering with freedom of choice. No one is forcing anyone to see the printed cartoons. In fact, Western Standard had heralded printing them before the magazine even came out...thus, warning everyone what that particular issue may contain. Obviously, the stores who opted to CHOOSE not to sell them had exercised their freedom of choice, the same with readers who shunned reading the magazine. Those who wish to see them for whatever reason have the same option. But what you want is to eliminate that choice! Canadians need to take their heads out of the sand, there's a good article here. Even in Canada, not-so-veiled threats Barbara Kay, National Post Published: Wednesday, February 22, 2006 snip Levant spoke of hiring protection against physical assault. He threw it out in a casual aside ("You get security ... you deal with it"), and in Europe or the Middle East it wouldn't cause a ripple of reflection. But for me it was a defining Canadian moment. To paraphrase an ignominious Liberal campaign ad: "A magazine publisher feels he needs security against possible acts of Muslim revenge for re-publishing political cartoons. Fear of violence by fellow citizens against his person. For exercising free speech. In Canada. I am not making this up." snip Mainstream Canadian Muslim organizations have publicly and explicitly repudiated the legitimacy of violence as a form of protest, a helpful and encouraging response to the tension. But other voices are being raised with more worrying views. On Sunday, 3,000 Muslims gathered in Toronto to protest the Danish cartoons, to call for bans against further similar material and to predict economic implosion in Denmark. One protester's sign spoke of a "countdown to justice" for the cartoonist. He said "justice" meant only a jail sentence, not death. Call me a cynic, but I am skeptical. Then there's Khalid Qasim, a protest organizer, who said of the cartoons, "This is a continuing process of humiliating Muslims and we cannot take this humiliation any more." "Cannot take"? "Any more"? Call me paranoid, but I hear a threat. Most disquieting of all, Sheik Ahmad Shehab, a Toronto imam, said to a cheering crowd: "We will watch the oppressors burn their economy down. We will watch them drown in their own blood ... The oppressors will see what type of a turn their affairs will take. It will take a terrible turn." Call me a pessimist, but when I hear the words "burn," "drown in their own blood" and "terrible turn" bandied around by the spokesman of a protest, and cheering ensues, I don't assume it's just rhetoric, and I worry that in a supportive crowd of 3,000, at least one listener may decide, perhaps because of the Western Standard's republication of the offending cartoons, that Canadians are also "the oppressors." © National Post 2006 http://www.liquidlewis.com/barb/archive/20...enincanada.html

  17. Leafless it is said that if we don't learn from history we must repeat it. So if you go back into history you will find that the Muslims took over the world from the Romans. They created some of the most modern inventions and building for their time and they were experienceing a good live for their people at the time. No democracy of course because that is not in their beliefs. Then the Crusades rose up to smite them. Christianity became the formost belief of our time and we drove them out. And in doing so committed some rather horrific atrosities. And so it goes, who is committing the most atrosities now, good question aye, depends on which side you are on. If you believe that Democracy or Religion really has anything to do whith what is goining on today well you are welcome to that belief. We go around and around on who has controll. Evil raises its head and no country is immune. The Ayattollas and Bush are going head to head now over the control of peoples minds, and the wealth and power that goes with it. The Crusades rose up because of Muslim agression and expansionism - revisionist and pc history aside, the Muslims at that time committed as many or more atrocities than the Christians. All in the name of Jihad and a worldwide Caliphate. Pope Urban II officially declared the First Crusade in 1095, with the aim of liberating former Christian lands. I agree with leafless "But in saying this I would have to say democracy combined with capitalism is about as close to a perfect system as you are EVER going to see." so far, with all its warts, the western world has the highest standard of living and looks after its citizens better than most. No system is perfect, neither is the U.S., I don't agree with the Iraq war, it was a big mistake, but its still one of the best countries in the world to live in. I don't let the mistakes of one man colour my whole perception of the U.S. and I don't consider it evil.
  18. I need a clapping hands emoticon.
  19. So far Harper is doing well, these are 3 of my favourites moves so far. 1. Harper refused to give further Palestinean aid unless the Hamass governemnt renounces violence, accepts Isreal's right to exist, and uphold the peace process. http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2006/01...1412935-cp.html http://www.pm.gc.ca/eng/media.asp?id=1016 2. Scrapping plans to sell Kyoto credits http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...215?hub=SciTech 3. Preparations to scrap the gun registry. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...60215/20060216/
  20. Again, steps in the right direction, but no achievement. Why get all excited and start talking about majority when he hasn't done anything in this parliament yet? This drives me nuts. I'll stand beside you and give him credit when he actually achieves something. He can't do anything in parliament cos it hasn't opened yet, and even then he will have a problem getting anything through. Indeed, the liberals will be appointing something like 40 opposition critics, so there will be more than one critic for some portfolios, and teams of Liberals will likely gang up on ministers during Question Period. In particular, this will be true for Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development, who is responsible for work that was divided in the previous Liberal government among amultiple ministers; she will be facing four Liberal critics, one of them who specializes in day care. The Liberals are allready planning their take down strategy and likely won't co-operate in parliament.
  21. Hmm, I don't have all the facts, but again as back in November, no sympathy whatsover for the victim. These guys and gals harassed and threatened the victim for a year and were caught on tape. If they didn't want to be caught up in the system they should have thought of that when they were assaulting the girl.
  22. My daughter was a mental health liason person in a small provincial town with a lot of fundamentalist type churches. She found that most of her patients were members of those churches. More likely because they came from a small town where people might be less open minded than those in the big cities. They also might have an inherent jealousy of people who have a bit more than they do, and it drives them nuts.
  23. Like they say politics a bit*h and you better have thick skin and not give a hoot about what people think or say. People are plain ignorant if they think the liberals have exclusive rights to scandels and backroom politics. Wow I guess that was just a comment that says the CPC are as corrupt as they accused the Liberals of being. LOL LOL LOl LOl LOl Sorry, but you are not making any sense.
  24. He likely has as much knowledge of history, or more, than you or I do. What happened 4000 years ago has nothing to do with what happened a few years ago. Harper can try and do as much as any other P.M. can do, and is doing the right thing by our troops. Other than that, I'm not clear on what your point is.
  25. Havn't read the whole thread yet, so sorry if this has allready been said. I also thought he was losing it, but since then have heard some other points of view, there is a lot more to this really. Saudi Arabia is starting to expand its business and diversify so as not to rely on oil, as they know at some point it will end. SA gives safe harbour to U.S. ships, and allows operations from there, so how can you say its okay for the U.S. ships to be given safe harbour in S.A. but not allow them to bid on port operations. If they are trusted enough for safe harbour then surely they must be trusted enough to run the ports, which were British run before. Wouldn't that be a double standard? In other words, it would be discriminatory to say, another foreign nation can run the port but not S.A. I'm not saying I agree with it, but it isn't as cut and dried as it seems.
