  1. Ah, media bias dicussions... Indeeed: if people think the news from Fox is fake, then maybe they should prove it and the news content as fake instead of bashing the messenger.
  2. That's a hoot, have to remember that one. The best asset the terrorists have are the 'useful idiots'
  3. Bingo - Now you've got it. Watch his website video, he says and it doesn't take much to figure out why he didn't want to be an idependant anymore. Himself says: "when it comes to the next election I couldn't even issue a tax receipt for donations." Except that he has it wrong; an independant can issue tax receipts but what he can't do is claim a % back from Elections Canada for money spent on an election. Become a Liberal - Bingo you can get 60% back... Nice to know money trumps principle!
  4. Garth polled his constituents back in October on what he should do. The results? (1) Resign your seat - zero (2) Negotiate back into caucus - 17 (3) Join the Liberals - zero (4) Go Green - 17 (5) Stay independent - 31 http://calgarygrit.blogspot.com/
  5. This from the allmighty Red Star - I need another glass of wine now... I've always said over population is the main problem. http://www.thestar.com/opinion/article/178409 Real debate about global warming won't be easy. Consider that one of the most significant contributions Canada could make to the problem would be to cut back sharply on immigration. The effect of our present immigration policy is that each decade we turn some 2.5 million people who now are mostly low-energy users into high-energy users, and so into high greenhouse gas emitters. Should we change this? Could we do it politically? Most important, why has this key potential element of any serious policy to reduce global warming never been debated publicly?
  6. The conservatives aren't spinning anything, its Garth and his supporters. None of the others mouthed off about the issue as Turner did. And btw Belinda was not kicked out.
  7. That's splitting hairs, he's the same as all the others and should put his money where his mouth is and the reason he has less credibility now. Natch it will be spun that he didn't cross the floor...sure, can I sell you a bridge in Brooklyn. Wonder if all those outraged Liberals will march in the streets as they did for Emerson and if not why not - oh I know they where just shilling for the Liberals. Which is what we see happening now. The good news is that he is now unlikely to split the CPC vote in the next election. How about Layton's proposed legislation on by elections.
  8. Garth will be on CFRB around 6:25 tonite. The point is that Garth beaked off and made it clear about calling a by election, he was front and centre yelling about Emerson. He should walk the talk, and request that Dion calls a by election. Garth Turner should walk the talk, or shut up. Talk about sucking and blowing.
  9. LOL its the cows, not us, we have to quit eating steak. Dammit I like my steak.
  10. Well, if Garth stays true to form, I'm sure that Dion will appreciate the heckling hell get from Turner. Guess we'll have to read his blog to find out Liberal secrets. I couldn't watch the news conference, maybe someone can tell me what Garth's reply was when asked why it was OK for Garth to go around beaking off about Emerson's switch, but now we are all just supposed to forget about that and not refer to him as that fat, self-important, little windbag? Anybody who still believes this guy has any political credibility left, truly is a rube.
  11. I'll have to read other threads and read what was said before, might be interesting. We will have to see if Garth Turner puts his money where his mouth is. When David Emerson crossed the floor to join the CPC, Turner travelled the country on a crusade demanding that any MP crossing the floor should resign his seat and fight a by-election. We'll see. I'd bet money that Turner's tune will be far different today. Even if he was booted out of the CPC caucus he was still elected as a conservative. Personally I'm of the opinion that any floor crosser should sit as an independant until the next election (or have a by election).
  12. Except that I am the same generation as you, and had nothing given to me by anyone, I paid for it all myself - my parents were not financially able to do so - so that doesn't fly.
  13. Let me know when you step up and give them yours first.
  14. It's not a hoax, per se, but it is winding people up into hysteria, chicken littles the sky is falling.
  15. LOL I did work at a low paying job for the first few years, but went to night school and pulled myself up by my own bootstraps. Got me a much better paying job, eventually into management. Gee, and no handouts from the gov't. You sound extremely bitter because you appear to have lived in poverty, and expect handouts. Just because you were not able to better yourself doesn't mean that others should have to live in the same manner. Its about lifting people up, not pushing them down to the same low levels.
  16. Sure Margrace, maybe you should think about why Martin got the name Mr. Dithers; besides we short sighted ingrates didn't fall for Martin's monumental blather. And, if you hadn't notice, the Liberals are now monumentally opposing everything Harper does. btw 'free' health care today would not be a reality if Diefenbaker had not brought in equalization payments. Tommy Douglas could not afford to do it without help from other provinces. Maybe we should get down and bow before the NDP and worship the alter of socialism where all people are equally poor - Not
  17. We in Canada (at least in Ont. not sure about other provinces) cannot force a mentally ill person into treatment or homes, a big part of the problem here.
  18. This is a good editorial, worth a read, IMHO the Liberals made a mistake electing Dion. http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/story.h...86-c776aee4ed92 Why Stephane Dion is unfit to govern Randall Denley, Ottawa Citizen Published: Tuesday, February 06, 2007 The following column appeared in Sunday's edition of the Ottawa Citizen. I've just met Liberal leader Stephane Dion for the first time and I have to say, it was a frightening experience. The thought that this fellow could become the prime minister of Canada ought to alarm us. -snip- You can catch the interview yourself at ottawacitizen.com. He's snidely un-American, in the way that the Liberal elite so often is. Canada's failure to meet its Kyoto commitments was partly due to the Americans' election of Kyoto-unfriendly George W. Bush, Dion would have us believe. Dion doesn't seem to have learned much from the mistakes of his predecessor, Paul Martin, the man who thought American-bashing would get him re-elected. Dion is, of course, opposed to an increased private sector role in health care and thinks the federal government would play a useful role by identifying best health care practices, so all the provinces can follow them. Here's a best practice: having enough doctors and nurses. That means having enough money. What's his plan? Dion tries to tie every issue back to the environment, since it's the one area where he's supposed to be strong. Unfortunately, he's a one-issue candidate with no coherent position on that issue. Dion can't say often enough how unfortunate it is that Prime Minister Stephen Harper has wasted a year by not immediately enacting the Liberal environmental strategy. That still compares favourably to the seven or eight years the Liberals wasted. Greenhouse gas emissions went up under the Liberals' watch, but now Dion is attacking Harper for not fixing it all at the last minute. That just doesn't make sense.
  19. No they don't. Again I have to wonder why the left in particular is so profoundly anti-Israel, because their views can be as much a threat to Israel's existence as Hamas (et al)
  20. Many recognize this, but many who seem to be on the left on issues, seem to feel the same way the Palestinians do. That is, Israel should not exist. When you boil it down, isn't it really what they want, the destruction of Israel? I know that critique of Israel is not anti-Semitism, but the relentless assault on Israel and support of anti Israel forces makes one wonder. " Profoundly anti-Israel views are increasingly finding support in 'progressive' intellectual communities. Serious and thoughtful people are advocating and taking actions that are anti-semitic in their effect if not their intent." Lawrence Summers, 17 September 2002
  21. After 13 years they finally decide to do something - sure - its the Liberals playing games.
  22. Exactly. If the Palestinians laid down their arms there would be peace If Israel laid down its arms - there would genocide, they would be 'pushed into the sea'
  23. Quite a catch 22 isn't it, especially if the Muslim population in Canada (and the rest of the western world) grows and becomes more vocal. A similar Swedish group was also denied status. Jewish groups have the same problem, their applications are usually deferred or rejected
  24. Moderates tend to be silent. Really, I wish I knew what you wanted them to be doing. They could speak out more, like Dr. Waffa Sultan and Irshi Manjhi (sp) mind you, they have death threats onj their heads now.
