There seems to be an opinion that once Castro dies, the tyranny will end. Will it, I doubt it, but maybe there is hope... I know that many left wing people think that Cuba is some kind of utopia to which we should look up to e.g. their health care, free education etc. what say you? http://www.nytimes.com/2007/01/21/weekinre...all&oref=slogin ......Several public opinion polls and surveys of Cuban-Americans conducted recently in South Florida and North Jersey show that a declining percentage of the diaspora still dreams of reclaiming houses. This is especially true among the younger generation, whose members never lived in Cuba. Still, some exiles did sneak out deeds and have fished them out of strongboxes since Fidel became sick. While some undoubtedly will try to reclaim former residences, most want factories, mills and other commercial properties. “Cubans are not going to fight over the last few crumbling homes,” said Nicolas J. Gutiérrez Jr., a 42-year-old Cuban-American lawyer in Miami who represents many business claimants and for himself seeks the return of two sugar mills, 15 cattle ranches, a food distribution center and more. “Out of the hundreds of people I represent and the thousands I talk to I’ve never met anyone who says he’s going to go back there and kick people out. On a base level, that would be immoral.” Even so, the fear held by people like Marielena and Francisco matters, having been planted by the regime and nurtured by a controlled press that issues regular warnings about ignoble gusanos ... This dense cloud of uncertainty has been hanging over Cuba since the summer, when Mr. Castro, who is 80, ceded power to his brother, Raúl, who is 75. For most Cubans, the fear of the future has little to do with who eventually replaces “El Commandante.” Rather, most are consumed by the contradiction between longing for change and fearing that change will come.....

IMHO he is pushing the envelope, trying to see how far he can go before someone takes it a step further, in which case he has an excuse for an all out war with Israel. I don't think he's stupid, he's doing all of this for a reason. If 'Palestinians' laid down their arms - there would be peace If Israel laid down its arms - there would be genocide, Israel would no longer exist.

I am on topic, and I said I was repeating what I had said earlier, what's your point - oh never mind.,..just keep trucking on.

And some left wing moonbats should read other translations. http://www.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/meast/10/26/ahmadinejad/ TEHRAN, Iran (CNN) -- Iran's new president has repeated a remark from a former ayatollah that Israel should be "wiped out from the map," insisting that a new series of attacks will destroy the Jewish state, and lashing out at Muslim countries and leaders that acknowledge Israel. The remarks by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad -- reported by Islamic Republic News Agency -- coincide with a month-long protest against Israel called "World without Zionism" and with the approach of Jerusalem Day. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4384264.stm Iran's president has defended his widely criticised call for Israel to be "wiped off the map". Attending an anti-Israel rally in Tehran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said his remarks were "just" - and the criticism did not "have any validity". His initial comment provoked anger from many governments, and prompted Israel to demand Iran's expulsion from the UN. Egypt said they showed "the weakness of the Iranian government". A Palestinian official also rejected the remarks." Odd that IKofi Annan reads it the same way, guess he needs a new translator, as with the BBC et al. The BBC and CNN are not known to be 'neocon sycophant fascists and wing nuts. CNN) -- U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan has expressed "dismay" over the Iranian president's comments urging the destruction of Israel. Annan, in a statement issued Thursday, reminded "all member states that Israel is a long-standing member of the United Nations with the same rights and obligations as every other member." It added that "under the United Nations Charter, all members have undertaken to refrain from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state."

Did anyone watch this CNN special last nite (Sat.), it was worth a watch, I missed the first half of it. Britain is undergoing some radical changes to its way of life and culture, this looks at how the radical Muslims are preying on the young muslims. We can only hope that the moderates win this war, because what happens in Britain could be a harbinger of what will happen in the rest of Europe and eventually N.A. http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/europe/01/17...pour/index.html Some mosques in Britain, while publicly agreeing to cross-cultural tolerance, in fact sometimes host preachers from both Britain and abroad who rail with hatred against "kafirs" (infidels), against homosexuals, against democracy and even against women. This hate-speech and the attempt by extremists to recruit young disaffected Muslims on London's deprived streets and even on university campuses is beginning to motivate the "other voices of Islam" to try to seize back their religion, which they say has been hijacked. Former Liberal adviser said he did no real work LOL so maybe Liberals are basing their skepticism about the value of MP Wajid Khan's report to Stephen Harper on their own experience with special prime ministerial advisers. Onetime Liberal MP Sarkis Assadourian says he never did a day's work after being appointed a special adviser to former prime minister Paul Martin. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...120?hub=QPeriod Shortly before the 2004 election, Assadourian agreed to step aside in his Brampton riding so that a star recruit, Ruby Dhalla, could run for the Liberals in his stead. In return, Martin gave him a job as a special foreign policy adviser. "They put out a press release and he said to the media and the nation with a straight face I was working with him as (his) adviser on the south Caucasus and Middle East," Assadourian said in an interview. "The whole thing was a lie . . . I never a single day worked in his office. I was never paid a single penny."

We have to stay in Afghanistan for some time at least, and while fighting the terrorists, also concentrate on helping the people. At some point in the future we will have to pull out, maybe leaving a force there to help build schools etc. There are still troops in Europe 60+ years of WW II. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/4989456.stm#jamail I want to express my thanks to the foreign troops who protected us from the cruelty of the Taleban and al-Qaeda. Canada works hard for human rights and the Rule of Law,and as I said earlier, is a leading advocate of the "responsibility to protect" doctrine, which asserts that wealthy nations have a duty to prevent human-rights abuses in other nations. If we abandon one of the world's poorest countries we would surely be sending a negative message about the value Canadians place on basic human rights.

I did have some hope for Paul Martin in that respect, but he disappointed as a PM. I for one, have never forgotten his proposal to cut the old age pension benefits. Fortunately it caused enough flak that he had to withdraw it. He also cut $6.3 billion from provincial transfer payments, causing serious underfunding to health and education. Not to mention his cuts to EI benefits.

Oda not welcome at provincial meeting on women's issues
scribblet replied to Catchme's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Be you didn't know you were pretending to be, yet again, less than intelligent, I believe myself that the majority would agree to restrictions on late term, that is for me, when the fetus becomes viable. In modern terms that would be around 19 weeks, ) probably with life support.) There are a large number of people who will never agree with abortion on any terms, they firmly believe that the life of the baby should be protected at any cost. I would like to think that my belief would be a reasonable compromise. -
Sexism - well, it is a male frat. club, but so what, if the boys want their own club, let them have it. Control - over what - nothing other than their own business in the club. Truth - they strive for it

This is a copy and paste from the article Angus Reid Global Monitor : Polls & Research Canadians Ponder Regulations for Abortion November 12, 2006 - Many adults in Canada would like to change their country’s rules for pregnancy termination, according to a poll by Environics Research Group. 64 per cent of respondents believe the law should protect human life from conception or during pregnancy. -
So why didn' t you post that the origin of the motion was Jewish? The fact that this was a subscription article, and you keep harping on the Union, tells me this is just a hatchet job on your part. The motion was defeated because it was stupid. Get real, a hatchet job on what, my post is no different to the 'hatchet' jobs posted about Harper, or anything else for that matter. Just because you don't like something doesn't make it a 'hatchet job'. I've no idea who made the actual motion, or if they were Jewish, the article doesn't say, all I know is it was put forward by the same union which planned a similarly biased motion -- expressing support for international boycott campaigns against Israel -- but this one was not simply symbolic, they wanted action.

from the link: Many adults in Canada would like to change their country’s rules for pregnancy termination, according to a poll by Environics Research Group. 64 per cent of respondents believe the law should protect human life from conception or during pregnancy. hmmmm didn't realize it was that high. So far, no party other than the CHP is avocating restrictions to abortion, but as I said before, I believe there should be restriction late term. -
I tend to agree, things will only get worse, especially for the women if we do pull out. BTW, I didn't take it that you were referring to RAWA as a news agency, don't know where that came from.

I tried to do a whois on that site but it came up domain not found, I don't know who wrote it or if it is genuine. All I know is from my own experience and numerous people I know who are in the masons, none of whom are into conspiracy theories or whatever. Today, Masons accept people of all religions and all walks of life, "all they have to do is believe in a God, and aim to become a better person. All men I know are involved in charity work. It may be that masons have been involved in various activities way back when, but are sure not the evil or whatever people are trying to portray them as these days. The masons whom I know are teachers, plumbers, electricians etc, from all walks of life, who find this kind of stuff quite humorous. "Combine the supposed 'secrecy' of three centuries of Masonry (and be sure to ignore the hundreds of exposes and about a hundred thousand books on the subject), toss in ONE supposed murder (180 years ago? With 'facts' still unproven despite exhaustive investigation....), stir in some "bloody oaths" along with some secret symbols and PRESTO: you've got yourself a Masonic conspiracy. When you add these things together with the other 'shadowy' groups (like the Bildeburgers, CIA, Trilateral Commission, OTO, and any others you might think of), it's so very easy to create - THE CONSPIRACY!!!" http://www.wrprovince.co.uk/Pages/Charity_..._6th_Dec_05.htm Welcome to these introductory pages regarding Charity and Freemasonry, which has been working in the Province of Yorkshire, West Riding for 146 years. The cornerstone upon which Freemasonry rests is that of Brotherly love, relief and truth. Put in more practical terms what does this mean?" Why don't you check out your local Masonic guild or get to know a few of them. Me, I'm looking forward to their next spring dance.

Bush's Canadian 'Clone' in Jeopardy
scribblet replied to Catchme's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
He might be at heart, but he's governing with his head. The increase in posts re: Bush clone etc. is simply aiming at the anti Bush/U.S. sentiment in Canada. It seems to tie in with the 'Bush Derangement Syndrome" LOL http://thechronicleherald.ca/Opinion/553043.html BDS, for those not in the loop, stands for Bush Derangement Syndrome. The term was coined just over three years ago by conservative U.S. syndicated columnist, and former psychiatrist, Charles Krauthammer, who defined the condition thusly: "The acute onset of paranoia in otherwise normal people in reaction to the policies, the presidency — nay — the very existence of George W. Bush." One could also call it "Harper Derangement Syndrome" -

Can't find anything about the lump sum payout other than it has been increased. http://www.jeancrowder.ca/node/542 Veterans to receive enhanced benefits Canadian veterans, Canadian Forces personnel and their families will receive improved benefits with the passing of a New Democrat Veterans First motion in the House of Commons Nov. 7. NDP, Bloc Quebecois and Liberal members all supported the motion that will amend the Canadian Forces Superannuation Act so spouses of CF members and veterans have access to pension rights, extend the Veterans Independence Program to widows of veterans, increase the survivor's pension amount upon death of Canadian Forces retiree to 66 per cent, eliminate the reduction of Service Income Security Insurance Plan long-term disability benefits from medically released members of the Canadian Forces and eliminate the deduction from annuity for retired and disabled CF members. -

Sure, and we could save a lot more if men just zippered up and kept it in their pants. I'm generally pro-choice with restrictions on late term, IMO after 4 - 5 months. As for partial birth abortions, I don't think doctors in Canada performs those so any legislation on that would be a moot point. It is my understanding that that particular procedure is only done if the mother's health is in danger, not sure though.
