Is Global Warming a Leftist Urban Legend?
scribblet replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It is not about who funded reports, but whether or not the reports are factual. The more I read the more I believe that there is a lot of alarmist hysteria; even if we stopped emissions completely it won't stop climate change. I was listening to an interview with a Danish person http://www.project-syndicate.org/commentary/lomborg6/English in the car. Al Gore refused to debate with him while in Denmark, which is typical of Al Gore, he doesn't like to debate the issue. One of the points he made was that Kyoto would not give us the best bang for our buck... "Gore shows that glaciers have receded for 50 years. But he doesn’t acknowledge they have been shrinking since the Napoleonic wars in the early 1800’s – long before industrial CO2 emissions. Likewise, he considers Antarctica the canary in the coalmine, but again doesn’t tell the full story. He presents pictures from the 2% of Antarctica that is dramatically warming, while ignoring the 98% that has largely cooled over the past 35 years. The UN climate panel estimates that Antarctica’s snow mass will actually increase during this century. And, whereas Gore points to shrinking sea ice in the Northern Hemisphere, he fails to mention that ice in the Southern Hemisphere is increasing." http://www.jp.dk/indland/artikel:aid=4191300/ http://sistertoldjah.com/archives/2007/01/...global-warming/ If we slowly change our greenhouse gas emissions over the coming century, the U.N. actually estimates that we will live in a warmer but immensely richer world. However, the U.N. Climate Panel suggests that if we follow Al Gore’s path down toward an environmentally obsessed society, it will have big consequences for the world, not least its poor. In the year 2100, Mr. Gore will have left the average person 30% poorer, and thus less able to handle many of the problems we will face, climate change or no climate change. -
Is Global Warming a Leftist Urban Legend?

Toto - I'm not in Kansas anymore ! Dion (former environment minister)likes to portrays himself as a great champion of the environment, yet exactly what did he achieve - zip is what. What did Ignatieff, say during the debate oh right - “We just didn’t do it.” The Grits had 13 years to do something but did nothing but talk, while greenhouse gas emissions rose 27% on their watch, from 1990 levels -far cry from their promise of lowering emissions by 10%. Wonder why they hate the environment so much. -
As far as I can tell, they are, it doesn't seem to be a major issue anywhere else.

Only if we think everything American is bad, and lose all sense of reason about it.

It's not even the MP who "filed charges". The two riding association workers filed a complaint; the police are the ones who decide whether to file charges. There seems to be a bit of a reading comprehension problem among those who are accusing Watson of wrongdoing here. -k It sure seems that way; mostly malicious innuendo.

American moles? what do these moles do and to whom do they report - and what does that mean I am curious. Are there Americans on here who are not moles, how can we tell?

A bit? Her posts are in the surreal realm most of the time. Is "catchme" the former "ritamd" at 50+? I think he/she/it had a name at rabble as well (that's no sign of dishonor; I had about 12 in serial manner). I'm sure of it - same type of drive by smears )

What's wrong with our parliament?
scribblet replied to ClearWest's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Havn't seen question period lately but all sides need clean up their act. As far as I'm concerned I've seen the Liberals on more than one occasion bring down the level of debate, and since they lost the election they can't seem to control their bittterness and anger at losing power. -
Kyoto I: Socialist Sucking Scheme
scribblet replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Scientists don't agree on all of it, and besides I'm not disputing climate change exists, I'm only saying that there's nothing man do to stop earth's cycling All this is nothing but a political football not for votes. Exactly who was to blame for global cooling and warming before humans were on earth. I would never vote NDP and the Liberals still need to be in the penalty box for a few years, I'll stick with the CPC for now. -
Conservatives vastly out fundraise Liberals in 2006.
scribblet replied to Ricki Bobbi's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
There's nothing wrong with election readiness, and they are always fundraising. So far there is no division or loss of revenue, I understand they are doing well. As for 'oil payola', no idea what that bit of malicious innuendo is about and all donations are the elections Canada website. -
I couldn't find the thread on this, so started a new one. Did anyone else hear CBC reporting that Jordan says Arar purchased a ticket to Jordan then hired a ride to Syria. Jordan is sticking to their story. Can't edit the title, should be Jordan says Arar lied.

PM Harper responds to UN Global warming Report
scribblet replied to Who's Doing What?'s topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I've said before, its not that they don't think it exists, they believe, and I agree, that we can't stop the earth's cycling, the best we can do is slow it down. The earth has always cycled, ice ages, warming etc. and as the population increases so does pollution. The earth will burn to a cinder eventually, they all do. -
Kyoto I: Socialist Sucking Scheme
scribblet replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Zilch !!! Earth has always cycled, and cycled before man was on earth, so what caused it then? No one want to discuss the real question that is: how much can we actually do, and how much are just trying to slow down the inevitable. No politician is willing to address the real problem - over population and the fact that we would need to back to a pre-industrialized age in order to slow climate change. Its all political, we can't really do anything other than clean up our water and cut air pollutionl -
Transcripts here and will be archived. Who wants to bet that Holland will be thrown under a bus ASAP LOL http://www.cjob.com/shows/adler.aspx

Not sure if this is the right thread, but came across this which is very disturbing, featured on Bourque. http://www.bourque.org/notes.html Basically, Mark Holland is suggesting that he and Dion would get in the face of energy producers in Alberta, be confrontational, and get the tar sands shut down to meet Kyoto targets. They're leaking a broad hidden agenda of "Screw Alberta", since it doesn't contribute to their caucus, there's the hint that by trying to promote separatism there, they may tie the hands of the Conservative caucus and possibly even eliminate that part of their caucus if they drive Alberta out. Now, of course, I'm sure we are all adamantly opposed to any separatist movement, and even worse than any internally-sourced movement is any external attempt to drive a province away. This is scary to me, considering the CPC government has been good for unity, (Quebec isn't making anywhere near the noise they were under Chretien), and the wholecountry is happy to be Canada together now, we had better hope the CPC win a majority next time around. Looking at the spectre of Dion ever winning and attempting to implement his mad policies, hopefully Edmonton and others will make it clear that Ottawa may NOT turn off the tap. Hopefully it's clear that doing so would lead directly to the lights going off in Ontario ( remember "The Ontario Blackout) and pump prices skyrocketing. You would think that Dion et al would figure out that stopping energy producers isn't going to win votes. If anyone is looking scary now it is Dion and this type of devious mischief.

This has nothing to do with RRSPs or the rules about RRSPs. Indeed, it has little to do with taxes either - despite Geoffrey's desire to cut them.Instead, it concerns how we provide income support to pensioners (and others). Aside f She said she lost her RSPs, I'm assuming the loss is with GIS not the RSPs, in other words, because of receiving other income, there is no additional income from the gov't . GIS isn't much, surely you would be better off with RSPs. To Dobbin: Yes I have RSPs but most are in spousals as I have a pension, hubby doesn't.

100,000 including Fonda and Sarandon protest
scribblet replied to Leafless's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Here is a link which says otherwise. http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/na...y?track=tothtml http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/01/27/iraq.protest.ap/index.html United for Peace and Justice, a coalition group sponsoring the protest, had hoped 100,000 would come. They claimed even more afterward, but police, who no longer give official estimates, said privately the crowd was smaller than 100,000. http://www.fox6.com/entertainment/story.as...A2-14D23821B47E he 69-year-old joined a 100,000-strong protest in the capital, assembled after President George W. Bush's announced plans to send more troops to Iraq." All we know is that there was faulty and apparently old intelligence, Bush went forward believing it. You have no proof that G.W. Bush lied to Congress, and if after six years and the animosity toward Bush, one would think that democrats could produce that proof - but they haven't. If they had the proof, they would have impeached him by now. I heard Charles Rangel (dem) in an interview yesterday, even he agreed they can't do it. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5053822 Bush has admitted he relied on faulty intelligence, but if you have hared core proof that he knew there were no WMDs before going into Iraq, please provide it. -
Rick Mercer has a good piece, worth a read. http://www.theindependent.ca/article.asp?AID=1333&ATID=6 Further on in your column you ask why more people aren’t questioning Canada’s role in Afghanistan. I understand this frustration. It’s a good question. Why should Canada honour its United Nations-sanctioned NATO commitments? Let’s have the discussion. I would welcome debate on the idea that Canada should simply ignore its international obligations and pull out of Afghanistan. By all means ask the questions Noreen, but surely such debates can occur without begrudging the families of injured soldiers too much airtime at Christmas? Personally, I would have thought that as a professor of women’s studies you would be somewhat supportive of the notion of a NATO presence in Afghanistan. After all, it is the NATO force that is keeping the Taliban from power. In case you missed it Noreen, the Taliban was a regime that systematically de-peopled women to the point where they had no human rights whatsoever. This was a country where until very recently it was illegal for a child to fly a kite or for a little girl to receive any education. To put it in terms you might understand Noreen, rest assured the Taliban would frown on your attending this year’s opening night gala of the St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival. In fact, as a woman, a professor, a writer and (one supposes) an advocate of the concept that women are people, they would.....

That's what is puzzling me, RRSP rules have been in place for eons, and how can anyone 'lose' their RSPs. I sometimes think people don't realize that all they are doing is delaying the tax, and over the years income generally goes up not down.
-
Personally I am not, not under either gov't, anyone rushing out to put all or a too large portion of their investments based on any parties promises would be a fool. Prove that the CPC lied. In order for it to be a lie they would have had to have all the information about future conversions and tax losses prior to the promise; then make the promise knowing full well that they would break it. They made a mistake making a promise when they didn't have all the facts. You can't prove it, speculation only.

Tories to Run Negative TV Ad Campaign
scribblet replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You might want to read this about censorship and Liberals and attack ads. http://calsun.canoe.ca/News/Columnists/Lev...29/3473262.html -snip- But Telecaster's boss, James Patterson, cares enormously about politics. Over the last three years, according to Elections Canada data dug up by blogger Stephen Taylor, Patterson made a whopping 17 donations to the Liberal Party, totalling more than $4,300. That's more than most MPs give to their own parties. That's an extreme partisan. One of the donations was even made in January 2006, just days before the last election. That's important, because Patterson was in charge of censoring TV ads that very moment. And censor he did. That was when the Liberals rolled out their attack ads, claiming Stephen Harper was going to put "soldiers in our streets". It was absurd, and it backfired. The point is Telecaster, run by Jim Patterson, didn't censor them, even though they used images of Stephen Harper without his permission. But when the Conservatives produced a response to those attack ads -- showing video clips of Liberal MPs admitting their own attack ads had gone too far -- Telecaster censored the ads. Telecaster ordered the Conservative ads off the air. The story gets worse: Telecaster yanked the ads after a complaint from the CBC, because it was their footage that captured the MPs making those statements. The CBC actively intervened to knock Conservative ads off the air. And the Telecaster censor, who just happened to be a major Liberal donor, was happy to comply. Isn't that a cosy little family? .Has the CBC ever complained about the Liberals using images of Conservative politicians taken from CBC cameras? Don't be ridiculous. The CBC is a wing of the Liberal Party -- the left wing. more -
A lot of family doctors will not deliver babies, mainly due to possible libel suits. Many women are having children at a much later age and so are at risk, they do need a specialist. Other than that, I don't see a problem with having a trained midwife, as long as there is a doctor available if needed.

I watch CTV news, BBC world news and Fox News, CNN, and read newpapers on line. I actually got the NP when I was in Hawaii, a day late but who cares. I also go to forums and read their news, sometimes they post good links to news articles from around the world. Stuff the CBC would never report on.
