Naming a paper would not be a wise thing to do, but I'm sure you have a good idea. The other papers have been a bit more balanced, it's the one paper that has published mainly allegations, rumours, he said she said, anonymous sources but not one actual fact. The alleged photos on a camera are now reported by the CBC as, well maybe I have them... hmmmm

Well, I hope that this investigation and a verdict comes quickly, even if Guergis is cleared her reputation and livelyhood are ruined. All this is based mainly on speculation and rumour, so far nothing factual. It's too bad that the opposition continues to use this the further their own agenda rather than getting down to other business. This is from a letter in today's NP which pretty well sums up the situation -

It is rude and offensive in China, and other cultures to wag your finger at someone. The picture was obviously shown out of context, we really have no idea what he was saying or referring to, but even in our culture it isn't polite to wag your finger at someone, particularly among people in their positions.

Conservative Rod Bruinooge Abortion Bill
scribblet replied to DrGreenthumb's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Does anyone know if this committee is approved by the gov't. and why are they allowed to keep it a secret. This bill is not approved of by the CPC or part of it's policy, yet we are led to believe it is a Tory bill. It's not, it's a private member's bill but I'd like to read more about this committee. Does anyone have any info on it? -
Conservative Rod Bruinooge Abortion Bill
scribblet replied to DrGreenthumb's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It is a made up term for a medical procedure which doesn't exist,by anti-choice strategists in the U.S. who were hoping to ban late term abortions. The only thing close is a procedure called a D & X which involves pulling the fetus from the womb, except for the head, but is used only if the fetus is severely malformed and/or the woman's life is in danger. It also very, rare. Bruinooge is the head of a multi-party pro-life committee, there are Liberals on that committee too but no one seems to have a complete list as it appears to be a secret. Therefore, the CPC has to take the heat for this one. -
It seems that Guergis has been found guilty by the court of public opinion based on (mainly) one newspaper's unethical reporting of allegations, supposition and a huge smear job. They would make the enquirer proud - Too bad only Jack Layton is asking more pertinent questions that more directly affect our lives: Quebec's challenge to medicare and nuclear policy, guess it's not sexy enough for today's media, or maybe they are not interested in reporting anything factual !

The Globe and Mail did agree in a recent editorial, that the PM was right to do what did and it's up to the RCMP to provide info; and that Jack Layton, is off-base. At the least this issue important because we are now being treated to a glaring view of the nature of the media in Canada, particularly the CBC and the Star et al. Intellectually we know this, but this Jaffer issue has given us a much clearer image of just how ugly these 'ournalists' are. Let's face it, the media in Canada is by and large a mouthpiece for liberalism, although I do think that Canadians, in general, are starting to see through all their smoke and mirrors. These media owners to have a right to editorialize but how about they allow the RCMP to conduct an honest and thorough police investigation then report the actual results? Reporting on the latest unverified rumours is not journalism.

Jaffer was dumped, long before this came up, they refused to sign his nomination papers the last time. Up until now Guergis had done nothing except have a hissy fit at the airport. This really does affirm belief in the cockroach theory - if you see one you will start seeing more and more things that may or may not have happened, truthful or otherwise. Even if Guergis is completely cleared, some of the mud will stick, she has allready been found guilty, so far with no evidence. The Toronto Star of course is pushing it's agenda even though they have no evidence to back up any of their claims.
-
The Liberals are throwing mud hoping it will stick but they have nothing, most of this is simply allegation, and Watergate it ain't. Driving the government car and using the Blackberry are out of procedure, a Minister should separate personal business from Government business but this is not huge scandal. The opposition's hair is on fire in the hopes they have found something that'll stick, too bad they don't have anything else worthwhile to chow down on. There must be something else they can foam at the mouth about.

No - and technically - No

The opposition is smelling blood and will use it to their political advantage, regardless of truth and good gov't. It is obvious that the couple are having marital problem, but should an ex politician's wife pay for her husband's actions? If yes why we do not hear about male politicians and their wives private lives? Are they all angels!!! Harper has acted wisely in forwarding the matter to RCMP to stop the opposition from spreading their lies at the end. Personally I will reserve judgement until the results are out.. I personally believe that the opposition is out for more blood.... they did it with Gurmant Grewal before and he was cleared by the RCMP, they are doing it again attempting to shake the trust in the CPC party. Obviously, if she is found personally wrong in any way... she should go.
-
Exactly, but we know that the opposition will spin this as much as they can, they are allready foaming at the mouth crying for blood. LOL Harper has done what was necessary, he doesn't need to say any more or answer to anyone, Jaffer was not an MP and as such the party is not responsible for his actions.
-
I'm 100% sure.. I don't see how Harper could intervene or say anything about an Ontario legal case, if he did he would be stepping on toes big time and would be unusual wouldn't it? I think they are doing the right thing by not getting involved. If Jaffer's defamation suite against the Star comes about, we may see more about the deal then. Personally, I think there are far more important issues to deal with then Jaffer's (and his wife's) personal lives.

Attempts to vilify the CPC are falling short, your problem is with the Ontario gov't, the CPC had nothing to do with this. Jaffer actually lost the nomination the last time around and couldn't even run, the party stopped him as soon as they got wind of his reported activities. By last fall, when it was reported that promises were being made, Jaffer wouldn’t have been able to deliver a flower arrangement to 24 Sussex Drive without having it rejected as politically toxic. The article is actually kind of bizarre even for the Star. I would be interested in finding out the identity of the anonymous source who used the term "busty hookers" (did Mr. Donovan meet with them). Maybe next time Kevin Donovan can find some even more imaginative anonymous sources, using even bolder and more entertaining language, but until then we are left wondering why any credible reporter and even the Star would report on something using enquirer like tactics. Gov't grant projects are set up in such a way so that some people can take advantaage to line their pockets with government money. Maybe the bigger scandal is why successive governments continue to fund such B.S.environmental/business projects. It has always been so. “The accusation that the Prime Minister’s Office has opened doors for Mr. Jaffer or his associates is false. It is also absurd.” That much is undoubtedly true.

It certainly will not solve the ageing population problem. How many bring in their ageing parents, and remember, the Ruby Dhalla's bill to reduce the qualification time for old age pension from 10 to 3 years is going for 2nd. reading. Can we afford that?

This is quite a politically incorrect Indo-Canadian outlook. This person pulls no punches... wow http://www.indocanadaoutlook.com/0410_slam_the_doors_on_immigration.html
