  1. Nonsense, that's just your opinion and not necessarily fact. Here's another reasonable opinion about taking cheap shots, sanctimony and pettiness - only in Canada where no matter who says how great we are, there will be those who prefer that Canada continue to behave as if it were a low-end, second-tier nation. http://www.canada.com/Fisher+cheap+shot+criticize+prime+minister+bringing+armoured+cars+India/7505562/story.html
  2. Thought this was a fair assessment exceprted http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2012/11/06/matt-gurney-how-much-armour-would-prime-minister-mulcair-want-in-his-limo/ But Nash’s comments are unfortunate for more than just their regrettable lack of consideration and knowledge of Indian internal security concerns. There are very things that we can reasonably expect all our political parties to be in uniform agreement on. That key Canadian government officials need to be properly protected, at home or abroad, ought to be one of them. Not just because some things should be above partisanship (though that’d be nice). The NDP should keep quiet here for entirely pragmatic reasons: If they actually expect to be in government some day, they’ll probably attend a few events that need security, too. Recall that security arrangements are handled by the RCMP in consultation with the local host government. It is not handled by government staffers. Political leaders rightly defer to the advice of informed outsiders precisely because of the need to ensure that the protection of our leaders remains non-partisan and always based on the facts. For the politicians, this has the welcome benefit of shunting incidents like this directly the RCMP. And, frankly, should anything go wrong, no politician wants to answer questions about why they weren’t following the advice of their guardians. Leaving security considerations entirely up to the police simply works better for everyone. Except, apparently, Peggy Nash. Nash and the NDP shouldn’t protest too loudly today. Their turn in the armoured limo may come soon enough
  3. Have to say I'm surprised at how low they are going with this one, they must be really pressed for real news or real scandals. The RCMP and CSIS assess the situation then make the call but the media are reporting it as if it is all Harper's personal doing. Only small minded and mean spirtied people would take issue with the security of our PM.
  4. Hope not, we have a landline and no cell phones. Don't forget there are many areas in Canada without cell phone service, we don't have any in the Bancroft area so have a seasonal land line there. Not likely to get cell up there any time soon.
  5. What did Mr. Canada do now

  6. Concerns, sure from the usual quarters... here's another opinion which reinforces the Gazette piece I posted, suicidal wailing over no big deal. http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2012/11/02/andrew-coyne-despite-near-suicidal-wailing-over-china-trade-pact-its-no-big-deal/
  7. Then they don't need to invest do they, they can stay out.
  8. It's my understanding that this is about businesses looking to set up in China and not allowing China to treat a Canadian company less favourably than they would any other foreign company looking to do the same. Basically, it's supposed to protect the interests of Canadians, at the same time Chinese investors in Canada must obey the laws and regulations of Canada just as any Canadian investor must. Chinese investment in Canada will still be subject to the Investment Canada Act and meet the required threshold tests. According to my MP this Canada-China FIPA is very similar to the other FIPAs that Canada is a party to. It contains all of the core substantive obligations that are standard in our other FIPAs. It is about ensuring greater protection against discriminatory and arbitrary practices allowing Canadians to invest in China with greater confidence. Well, I haven't read the agreement, but I've been pretty sure that there is the usual hysteria and fear mongering. There is a very reasoned opinion here that gives speaks to the hysteria, much ado about nothing it seems. http://www.montrealgazette.com/news/Opinion+FIPA+deal+with+China+Canada+interest/7477393/story.html Let’s replace the rhetoric with some facts. Canada has FIPAs with more than 30 countries, from Barbados to Croatia to Senegal. What these agreements provide are some basic assurances that if a Canadian investor establishes or acquires a company in another country, then the investor has a right to legal recourse if that company is expropriated without compensation (or if the country changes its rules, making it impossible for the Canadian investor to continue doing business). In exchange, we offer these same rights to foreign investors in Canada. That’s all. A FIPA does not provide permission to invest, nor does it exempt an investor from the laws of the land; it just provides legal options for companies who believe they have been treated unfairly.
  9. Agree, if E.C. has completed it's investigation then it needs to release the findings, otherwise all the speculation and innuendo takes on a life of it's own becoming fact for some. http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/story/2012/10/31/pol-michael-sona-exclusive-interview-on-robocalls.html
  10. Ohio voting machines malfunctioning, she selected Romney but Obama's name lit up hmmmmm

  11. Are Canadians really this shallow, I find it hard to believe that enough people would park their vote with the Liberals simply because of a name. http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/10/30/trudeau-effect-with-justin-as-leader-liberals-would-win-majority-government-poll-finds/
  12. I never said anything to that affect nor that I believed it wasn't a form of deception, only that it's word smithing and spin as the ad itself never said ALL jobs would be lost... These things take on a life of their own. Now it looks like a case of “right story, wrong country.” http://watchdog.org/...plaining-to-do/ ETA: I don't think that ad was any worse than the dem. ad suggesting Romney was responsible for killing a woman who died of cancer.
  13. Bloomberg is not B.S., it's a reputable source The ad said: http://www.dailyhera...ness/710309794/ “sold Chrysler to Italians who are going to build Jeeps in China" Bloomberg said they are in talks to add Jeep production in China - but Jeep production in North America will continue unchanged or will expand. - Chrysler is having detailed conversations with China about making Jeeps in China, sounds like that they are about to make more Jeeps in China, It's called Word- Smithing - and it's all political semantics over words, whichever side can get it out louder and faster wins. http://watchdog.org/...plaining-to-do/ Last week, it looked as if Republican presidential challenger Mitt Romney and his campaign were overly aggressive in their criticism of President Barack Obama and his administration’s 2009 bailout of Chrysler. Now it looks like a case of “right story, wrong country.” Bloomberg reported on Oct. 22 that Fiat, Chrysler’s Italy-based, post-bailout owner, ”plans to return Jeep output to China and may eventually make all of its models in that country.” The report made it clear that the company’s discussion with its Chinese partner, Guangzhou Automobile Group Co., was about manufacturing Jeeps and other vehicles in China for the Chinese market. http://www.businessw...y-19-billion#p1 All is not that cut and dried, but carry on... I'm done here there are always two or more sides to an issue.
  14. I tend to believe that much of what is said about this is overstated and hyped. Will have to write my MP to verify that. My understanding is that both Canada and China have the right to regulate in the public interest and that Chinese investors in Canada must obey the laws and regulations of Canada just as any Canadian investor must. At the same time, Chinese investment in Canada will continue to be subject to the Investment Canada Act, but decisions by Canada under the Investment Canada Act are excluded from challenge under the provisions of the FIPA. According to the gov't, it's about ensuring greater protection against discriminatory and arbitrary practices and will allow Canadians to invest in China with greater confidence and protection. The intent is to remove Chinese trade barriers and increase exports such as lumber, grains, beef and other Canadian products.
  15. Nope, I don't see them...
  16. Totally agree - sorta like the U.S. press being in the bag for Obama
  17. If Obama wins the Electoral College but not the popular vote, will he still support the elimination of the E.C.

  18. It's all political spin and twisting words to make one side look better than the other. If I had a vote it would be pretty hard to discern who was telling the truth and who wasn't and the media can't be trusted to present facts in an unbiased manner. Most of them anyway.
  19. I didn't say I supported any of that, but the link I posted appears to support Romney's contention that Jeeps will be built in China. As far as I know the jeep ad did not say ‘all’ production was moving to China, if it had that would be wrong. It said sold "to Italians who are going to build Jeeps in China." which is technically correct. Unless there is an ad that says ALL that I haven't heard, and for sure I don't hear them all. The democrats aren't exactly pure and true when it comes to ads and truthfullness, in particular the add that accused Romney of causing a woman to die of cancer but this one kinda takes the prize for 'classy' http://www.therights...if-romney-wins/ http://hotair.com/archives/2012/08/25/busted-republican-woman-in-obama-ad-has-been-a-registered-democrat-since-2006/ ETA: I'm not going to get into posting more links or name calling because both sides are doing it, not one party has a corner on it.
  20. I don't know how they grade now, but in Toronto a no. of years ago they did not grade on grammar and spelling and at one point where not allowed to correct them. They relied on phonics and the whole word approach. Some of this stemmed from the Hall Dennis report and child-centred learning which removed the emphasis on testing which allowed students to move on with their age group rather than being held back if they were behind. IMO this resulted in kids struggling with the basics.
  21. They should present both sides of an argument but IMO they often do not. here's a piece here on this http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2012/05/09/19738416.html TORONTO — Tory MPP Rob Milligan - a former high school teacher - is demanding action from the provincial government to protect young children from instructors who “brainwash” their students into promoting political causes.
  22. Further to this: http://www.businessweek.com/news/2012-10-28/marchionne-seen-missing-fiat-sales-target-by-19-billion#p1 To counter the severe slump in European sales, Marchionne is considering building Chrysler models in Italy, including Jeeps, for export to North America. The Italian government is evaluating tax rebates on export goods to help Fiat. Marchionne may announce details of his plan as soon as Oct. 30, the people said. Does this mean Romney is owed an apology ?
  23. Believe me, if I had the money they would've gone to a private school.
  24. What he actually say in the 30 second ad: a narrator says Obama “sold Chrysler to Italians who are going to build Jeeps in China. Mitt Romney will fight for every American job.” That is not entirely untrue, they are discussing returning some output to China. Misleading sure, but both sides do it...
  25. Who made you the grammar nazi... m speaking from experience with my two kids, I always used to say you have to innoculate your kids against the school system.
