Canadian soldiers cleared of alleged Taliban abuse
Borg replied to Army Guy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
AG Just stop it my friend - do not tear this or yourself up and no pity party (yeah I know it is not but others do not) - got some T-shirts as well - but many will give you sympathy and then add the "But" Hear you loud and clear - some day we may even sit down together - perhaps we already have We do it for the guy on the left of us and the guy on the right of us - to the rest - thanks The "perfect ones" can fuck off - once they have tasted the smells then and only then might they get it. Stay well AG Borg -
Gun laws are reducung the biggest predator - man. Ducks Unlimited is very successful Expanded seasons and increased bag limits in the west have not reduced the Canada and Snow Goose populations. Hunting license sales have dropped dramatically - no one kills them any more - we used to take a couple hundred per family in my old town for use over the winter - now the family has no guns and does not hunt - nearly all country folk have put their firearms in the closet and cannot buy ammo without a licence. Not one family kills them now - they buy all their food at one of our stores or from our ranch. Wolves and coyotes? That is a laugh - very small predator kill from them. Rats with wings and one one taking them down - man made issue Taste damned good though 2000 is not enough - they need to kill the permanent population - those that live there year round Borg

Public pushes to bring envoys home, not Lindhout
Borg replied to tango's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I believe it has to do with the fact that supposedly Fowler and company were on official business The lady captured and held by Somalis - Amanda Lindhout - well, she is a free lance journalist if memory serves me correctly - who went willingly to a country that does not have a great deal of respect for a female, a journalist or life in general. I believe the Canadian public is getting a bit tired of hearing how people put themselves in harms way and then expect the feds to come running. It is a mean world out there and one must show at least a modicum of personal responsibility. Want to play the game - must expect to pay the piper - and do not expect the feds - either party - to always bail you out. This country is not a world wide baby sitter for people who would act as though they have no regard for the situation they are placing themselves in. That Maple Leaf is no longer the passport to freedom in third world countries. Borg -

More to this than meets the eye Who was that professor and what were his poltical afilliations? Does he have "outside interests" and who pays for his continual access to information requests that buried the military department that responds? How many other accusations has this person launched? Yes indeed - there is a lot more to this than the public knows. Borg -

You become this by running and allowing others to do it. In for a penny in for a pound - turn back now and it will be worse than when we entered. You are beginning to deeply disappoint me - whether that means anything or not does not matter - I would say that your principles are weak and will lead to the down fall of others if not yourself. Do not think for an instant the world will respect you because of law - it respects only strength and purpose. In the middle east even the people we stand against would think you insignificant for being willing to abandon your initial purpose - making you far more vulnerable in your own home. A product of a soft life, privilege and no dirve to make that world better - the strong may roll over you someday. Borg -

Time to get off your horse little one and join the world of reality - if you want to make it a better place you need to see what is really out there - far easier though to sit and pontificate when you are living the dream on anothers wallet - canada is a drop in the bucket and a pleasant one at that - but it will change if you let it - and I somehow suspect you think the law will prevent it from going to bad - you are oh so wrong Get out and see for yourself or forever be ignorant - and an entitled canadian Borg -
Now that is funny! Borg

Borg replied to Topaz's topic in Canada / United States Relations
So negative - where is your spine? Our energy would sell anywhere - and tagging other items to the deal would make things move quickly I would bet you a drink - when you are old enough - in the bar of your choice in your home town taht canada recovers far faster than the amricans Borg -
Of course you would say that - perhaps I will invite myself to your house for tea some day - and you will let me in - after all it is the right thing to do Didn't we just keep some scumbag Pommie bastard out of canada a while back? Cannot support the government on this one Borg

Borg replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If the general population had any opinion of the people in the legal system - other than a generally negative one - then this bill might not required. I like that one size fits all - now - if we would only bring back the lash and the death penalty. Seems to work in some countries - I think we need to give it another try. Borg -

I have complete faith in their professionalism - unfortunately there are many who are quite happy to initiate trouble - and usually they have a platform AND a microphone. Borg -
The lawyer has spoken B-C we should all listen Rae could stay out and canada would be a far better place - any thoughts on where we could leave him? Borg

Any country has the right to allow or not to allow people to enter Guess Rae is off their Christmas card list Borg

STOL configuration has not changed Borg
-
Unfortunately the basic de Havilland Buffalo does not qualify for U.S. FAA flight certification. The aircraft has no single engine capability in the STOL configuration. What that means is if you are configured in the Short Take Off and Landing - full flaps, landing gear down, props in approach mode - there is no single engine capability. Approach can be as slow as 45 knots - and you ARE on your way down. If you lose an engine and you power up the other - you will torque roll the aircraft - yeah, right over on it's back - and then you are dead - so engine failure is straight ahead crash landing if the runway is short or you are close to the ground - that is the big reason it never sold in the first place. As you see - there is a great deal of information the news media does not: a. Know or b. Does not care to add. The likelihood of a large international market without the base FAA approval which most companies look for - is very small. All Canadian aircraft and pilots - "Fly at the pleasure of the Queen" This one factor is considered an acceptable risk I am out of this conversation completely - I have flown 10 different types of Canadian military aircraft - fighters, transports and helicopters and have more than 10K flight hours - you got questions? I might not know the answer - but I know where to go to get them. Bottom line here - the lack of knowledge on thsi board makes my typing fingers sore and it will eventually degenerate into a pissing contest about what is the best aircraft. The guys and gals crewing the "Beestalo" wrote the requirements - because they need the capability and they are the pro's - so meet the requirement or get out of the bidding process. Now where can I stir the pot next? Borg
-
Tooling would take years - Viking may be a good company - but they cannot build an airplane from scratch - the refurbishment would still be a problem - notsure they actually have the abiliaty to do this within the next 5-7 years. Not against a home grown version - just that I personally believe it is not feasible at this time. Time is the enemy here Borg

And you might use your brain to read the complete finised post - I was in the middle of an edit - now - go back to your law books and study to make the world a better place by stepping from Mom amd Dad to a nice job somewhere - or get out and do a few things to gain a little experience first Cheers Borg

Sigh - it is old and worn out- it is still used - but there are more operational restrictions and there are more "work arounds" to get the job done. When you are "on top" and talking to people on the ground - or your buddies jump out the back end you will move heaven and earth to make sure it all comes out ok. Not like working in a bank - one of the tellers gets hurt everyone still goes home - in this business when one gets left behind it is usually a funeral - got 16 names in my log book - that is 16 friends I have stood over and held hands with wives, mothers and daughters - most during the fucking lib phase - and therefore due to publicity restrictions most never made the back page of the local penny advertiser - in this business you go out as a team and you come back as a team. Over stresses on the airframe from terrain/mountain waves, hard icing, salt and corrosion from ocean work, tough landing conditions, no oxygen except supplemental about 10K - so they suck on a oxygen tube about the size of your pen or wear the oxygen mask, plenty of skin wrinkles from twisting motion and so on Complete and full refurbishment will not bring it back to where it was Wing spars, control surfaces, engines, propellors, interior panels, electrical connections, scuffed wire bundles, avionics are old and in the case of the Buffalo - there was still a mount for a sextant a couple of years ago - perhaps it could be considered time to update? Bases have been closed and ranges need to be extended Spares are no longer even made in some cases, serviceability is now an issue - in other words sometimes you cannot start it, taxi it, fly it etc If your father was driving a 1962 tandem dump truck with a two range / five speed tranny - when would you replace it? Or do you continue to refurbish? Same with the Herc. Same with a bunch of other aircraft. You can only flex metal so many times before it fails or becoms unsafe to use. This is not an airliner - it is a 4X4 and it is hard used. And many love to make it political. Not as simple as many would like to make it out. Think my student friend - think. OK now? Borg
