  1. I would confer with the box of the one we have (or that I think we have), but that would require a lot of digging that I am not really interested in doing right now.
  2. By the logic which you suggest that people who draw comparisons between Jews and Roma suggest that Jews do not deserve any sympathy because they do not suffer more than another suffering group, it is in fact you who suggest that none of those people deserve any sympathy. Why are you not drawing the other conclusion? That Jews deserve sympathy because others do as well, but not a unique sympathy?
  3. The fact that this guy is a history professor makes me think this must be one of those times the media is quoting people out of context, because pretty much anyone who took any history in this country has heard of the events surrounding Igor Gouzenko. I would certainly call that a historically significant incidence of " foreign infiltration. "
  4. Who determines that a track meet is a sound way to decide anything? Who determines that what is decided by a track meet has real value? The track conditions are irrelevant. What matters is how it was decided to have a track meet in the first place.
  5. I did not vote in the online poll to determine the cities. However, I will be voting with my pocketbook in not picking up this poorly updated version. If I ever wanted a new Monopoly set, I bet I could find the original Canadian Edition online.
  6. Are they that stupid, really? Do they not realize that trying to exert that kind of control over the internet would cause waves internationally that could lead to the killing of the Golden Goose? It will no longer be the " World Wide Web " if every country feels compelled to create their own because the U.S. was threatening their ability to use it.
  7. I do not understand what they mean by emphasizing Plato... Emphasizing what about him? He is a great read, and one of the most historically important philosophers, but I would hardly make him the basis of an entire education...
  8. I think maintenance is expected to be another $16 billion.
  9. You can, to +/- 3%, 19 times out of 20.
  10. I wonder where they are going to deport him to though. Israel? Or Palestine?
  11. I can guarantee you that such a ridiculous amount of money is spent on security because the government actually gives a shit about its citizens property. Paying people for the looting and vandalism with no security whatsoever would probably be cheaper than the price tag of this.
  12. If you actually looked, I am sure you would be surprised. Well, you do not need armed guards specifically for Romani children if you just stick them all in delinquet schools like some places do. What is well documented is the number of times Romani have been accused of crime and assumed to be culpable. When a Romani group is " driven off " as is often the case, do you think it is with harsh words alone? Hardly. There is no doubt that Jews deserve sympathy for everything that has happened. What is less clear is that they deserve special sympathy elevating them beyond others people who suffer from atrocities happening today.
  13. I am curious as to what the thinking was behind the Court's ruling against Net Neutrality. Do the old fogies that likely make it up truly understand or care what it is about, having likely been from a generation (or two) before the advent of the Internet Revolution.
  14. Supposedly they have taken up camp in Somalia, yet the West still has done nothing constructive.
  15. What was yours? You were the one who felt compelled to add in the point about Jews being killed for who they are, today. Lots of people get killed just for who they are in this day and age.
  16. A couple weeks ago I was walking by the waterfront in downtown Kingston. From there, you can look across the water and see the wind turbines all spinning on Wolfe Island. It was the first time I had seen it, because I am not in Kingston much these days, and I found it rather surreal. Alternative energy sources may not be the best from an economic stand point right now, but I am betting that they will yet come into their own. They may cost more now, but who is to say that will be the continue to be the case if something *does* happen to the oil and uranium markets? One thing they have going for them: their fuel may not run at 100% efficiency all the time, but it never, ever, runs out.
  17. Do you honestly think that anti-Ziganism is not still a huge problem, Argus? Second only to anti-Semitism and in some places arguably worse? I would contend that the conditions in Europe today make it far for likely that Romani could suffer from ethnic violence on a grand and lethal scale than Jews. Their treatment is atrocious. Of course, no one really cares that about the Romani or the fact that they suffered alongside the Jews for most of the same reasons. The numbers are hard to pin down because they were nomadic and disorganized, but it could of been anywhere from two and a half hundred thousand to one and a half million. I guess it does not count though unless it is approaching six? And they do have a word for it too, " Porajmos " ; the Devouring. Hell, in the last year even Canada decided to clamp down on refugees from the Czech Republic because apparently we were scared of the Roma. The Czech Republic, where 90% of the populations does not want Roma as neighbours; more than any other group. And then there were the Molotov cocktail attacks in Hungary.
  18. Perhaps I will respond to these in a PM, but for the time being, if you actually care about the Uzbeks being killed in Kyrgyzstan, why not offer us your analysis of that? That would be on topic, after all.
  19. Succesfully resisting temptation, dre.
  20. Alright, alright. Unfortunately, those are never as fun in real life as they look in Black & White.
  21. Especially since ethnic Russians are among those who have been target and killed in one of the earlier incidents, I believe.
  22. Hold on a moment, dre. I apologize for exposing jbg's intent when we should be talking about the content at hand, but I am hoping that after what was hopefully a brief sidestep we can in fact move back to the topic and forget that other crap.
  23. You an I both know that newspaper sales to not correlate to the absolute measurement of horrorificness. Neither does action, by anyone. Consider the proportion of any response to what was carried out in the name of 9/11, if you want to go there. But, all of these are sidetopics... If we really want to talk about it, than we should forget that other stuff for the time being. You know, Kyrgyzstan crisis qua Kyrgyzstan crisis. That is what I would prefer.
  24. With each passing post it becomes more obvious that you either do not bother to think things through, are a complete idiot, or both. Under your ridiculously low-burden definitons, anyone who was a Zionist in favour of Israel doing in the West Bank as they please would be anti-Palestinian. If they were anti-Palestinian, they would be opposed to the self-determination of the Palestintian people. And therefore there would be no debate possible about Israel by anyone who was either an anti-Semite or an anti-Palestinian, since in practice using your sort of definition being a pro-Semite or pro-Palestinian would almost guarantee being opposed to the other and there is no such thing in the political context as debating about Israel without debating about Palestine and vice versa. You are obviously anti-Palestinian. So shut up. Or recant.
