  1. That doesn't sound like Harper's plan at all. Would you care to provide and evidence where Harper stated this position?
  2. If you want to take retalitory action, taxing exports makes little sense. They should look at taxing strategic imports.
  3. I imagine the poorest of the poor don't rank high in voting percentages. For the record, the immigrants I referred to are typically middle class professionals.
  4. I wouldn't be too quick to discount this. I live and work in the suburbs of Vancouver and interact with many new Canadians. I do agree that many I have spoken to do not vote, but those that do, do vote Liberal and the reason being a sense of gratitude / loyalty to the party that they perceive to be responsible for bring them in. I know it is anecdotal, but this is what I've experienced.
  5. How soon people forget, eh? MacKay's squad was about $5 million in debt post PC convention. And as you mentioned, their financial support from business and private individuals pretty much dried up. As for polling, it is true that the PC's polled better during this period.... ...by a few percentage points. They polled in the mid-teens and the Alliance polled in the low to mid-teens.
  6. It is debatable whether there would be net gain or net loss. In my opinion, the Conservatives already are centre-right, socially moderate. They've abandoned most of their socially conservative policies at the last convention. Now if they were to become pro SSM, pro embryonic stem cell research, pro marijuana legalization, then they would be socially liberal. Were the PC's moderate?.... ....cause I don't see much difference between the Conservatives in 2005 and the Progressive Conservatives pre-merger.
  7. That, however, might alienate many of the party's other supporters.
  8. Sounds about right.... ...where did you see these local polls? I live in the area and have not heard any local polling results. I am also curious to see the numbers in other Surrey ridings.
  9. He is referring to this article: Harper at odds with MacKay As evidenced by the fact that you didn't even hear about this, no serious damage resulted.
  10. Scaramouche.... ...I thought you were done trolling for tonight. What happened to you anyways to cause this minor mental breakdown? Were you hurt by the Babble rejection of your opinions on the latest SES Research poll? Unusual even for you LCG.
  11. We should be careful not to compare this to what the Martinistas have done with Ignatieff this year and Bill Cunningham last year in Burnaby. In the latter two situations, the riding associations rebeled. This is not the case with the Cutler nomination.... ...although there may be a few Riddell supporters who are less than thrilled with the events of the last few days.
  12. On Friday, I saw a little piece on Cutler and his nomination in the riding. Alan Riddell was interviewed and he said that he was asked to step aside for Cutler. He also mentioned something about the CPC agreeing to pay for his campaign expenses, but he has yet to receive payment. Can you imagine asking someone not to run in favour of a better candidate. I'm sure maplesyrup is underestimating the damage to the CPC. I foresee at least a 10 point drop for the Conservatives. For some reason, that I cannot explain, this story is absent from the content on CBC's website. Not sure why there would be a delay.
  13. Never heard of them, but I have seen a Greg Morrow post seat projections on another web site. Thanks for the link... ...I'll have to bookmark this one and take a looksie.
  14. That is right... ...it hasn't.
  15. The Decima poll was conducted on November 26, 27, & the 28.... ...the day the government fell. Therefore, events of the last 4 days had no bearing on these polling numbers.
  16. I'm not sure if those sites are still up. Found a link to a blog on another message board.... ...A La Derecha Scroll down to Martin's hidden agenda. Seems like Martin is quite the gymnast.
  17. Karch Kiraly? I didn't select it with him in mind.... ....it is just a Hungarian name/word that I use to post on message boards.
  18. I must've missed that one. When did the Conservatives say that they have no interest in cutting personal or business taxes?
  19. Some of the best lines I've seen/heard so far this campaign have come off message boards.
  20. It shouldn't.... ...they did it last time.
  21. Almost like the Martinistas lifted part of that from Conservative speeches from May and June of last year. A reduction in GST would be a benefit to students who have little or no income. What about the chidren? Don't forget the children!
  22. From the Conservative Party web site: Snipett: I'm not an expert, but from what I can see it clearly states that the Director will be responsbile for federal prosecutions. I'm also not sure how it undermines the RCMP. I'm sure there will be more discussion on this issue in the coming days.
  23. It is true that cutting corporate and income taxes would be of more benefit to the economy, but cutting corporate taxes is a pretty hard sell in this country. However, cutting taxes is still better than not cutting. I imagine those on this board criticizing this move now, must have applauded Mulroney for bringing us the GST in the first place.
