Brings tears to my eyes: Proud to be Canadian
-
Only he knows, although I'm sure many will speculate. In my opinion, this will cause no real damage to his campaign. You could say that the fact he got some prime time on the news actually benefits him.
-
I have no problem with it at all. I never did quite understand the NDP's rigid objection to even a little bit of privately delivered publicly financed health care. The fact that Layton used one in the past, could finally ignite some serious debate on the issue.

Today was a day blessed with dumb remarks.... ...August, I thought you would have chosen a "Paulie" for today. For the record, I think this one deserves mention: Martin's response to the "Soldiers in our streets with guns" ad. The one that wasn't intended to air, but is still airing in Quebec.

That's a pretty funny site, Newbie.

Why won't Harper open his books?
Kiraly replied to The Honest Politician's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I think the issue here is politics. The Liberals are going to say that Harper has not listed every single donor even though large donors have been accounted for but smaller ones are not. Harper's situation is very far from the donors to a Liberal campaign which included many companies enjoying government contracts. Agreed. So what does that say about the other three "leaders"? -

Stephen Harper Wants to break up Canada
Kiraly replied to River_God's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Don't make fun guys.... ...the Liberals are carrying a huge debt and can no longer afford a Kinsella type to spin their strategy. Sad really that the once great party has now been reduced to this. Question is: How much are they paying? -
Think of it this way.... ....this will assist in keeping unemployment down.
-
Considering the latest pollng results, I think you will see Harper become the focus of attack from the other three leaders.

Tml12: Which Montreal riding are you in? What are you hearing about the Conservatives locally? A couple of weeks ago, I remember reading that some radio stations and newspapers in Quebec were responding positively to Harper's views about federalism after making some speeches in Quebec. Now it appears that some of the pollsters are suggesting that we may be witnessing some movement in Conservative numbers in Quebec. Do you feel that the Conservatives can turn the tide and actually build support in your province?
-
I'm not sure about that. I think Quebec has the potential to give the Liberals the biggest gains with the right leader from that province at the helm. Martin Cauchon, a Chretienite, would be my guess.
-
From http://www.bourque.org/ Well this can't be good for the Martin campaign if some of the party's big names are working on future leadership bids as opposed to focusing on the current election campaign.

My friend just read your comment over my shoulder and told me that she is now changing her vote from Conservative to Liberal. Thanks a bunch.

How many separatists lurk in CPC?
Kiraly replied to BubberMiley's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I cannot understand how this story isn't bigger than it is. I know Paul Wells commented on it on his blog and both the CTV and the Globe have reported it, but that is it as far as I can tell. You would think that a campaign volunteer making pro-separation comments in a riding in Alberta would be major headline news. I wont give up. I'll continue to scan Reuters, CNN, and Al Jazeera. Hopefully one of them will give this the attention it deserves. -

4? How many founding members of a separatist party are currently seeking re-election with the Liberals? -
How low will the Liberals stoop?

This would be a close second for the DRotD. -
I think we have our winner for "dumb remark of the day".

http://tinyurl.com/77gfm From the linked clip: Don Drummond from the TD Bank first heard about the announcement via email, 4 hours in advance of announcement from liberal strategists. CTV quoted Drummond as saying “Alot of people seemed to know there was an announcement coming and a few people seemed to know what it was.” CTV also reports that Richard Nesbitt, CEO TSX purchased $759,000 worth of stocks hours before the announcement and made $100,000 in profit the next day. From the NDP website: http://www.ndp.ca/page/2561 I had no idea that John McKay said that Income Trusts would be taxed moments before Goodale's announcement. What an unfortunate mistake.

Harper offers to stand in for Martin, take on Bloc
Kiraly replied to Kiraly's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
August, I totally agree that Duceppe doesn't want to debate Harper as there is very little upside in doing so for him. What I don't understand is why Duceppe gave those particular reasons for not doing the debate. Did he not challenge Martin to a debate about federalism versus sovereignty? I'm not sure what moral authority to govern has at all to do with that particular debate. When the PQ eventually come to power again, this debate will take place, whether the Prime Minister has the "moral authority" or not. To me, Duceppe did not come out of this looking all that good... ...and I rarely have the opportunity to say that. So how did the events of the past few days play out in Quebec? Are the comments from Dumont and Charest vis a vis Harper creating any interest with Quebecers? -

Duceppe Declines Harper's Challenge Well it would've been interesting. I don't completely understand Duceppe's reasoning here. Did he not challenge Martin to a debate about federalism versus sovereignty? -
Historically low dollar? Today? Anyways, admittedly I must be lacking in the brains department, because I don't know how Harper would sell us off to the Americans to become the 51st state. Perhaps you could elaborate. I imagine the royalties from the Democratic party would be quite substantial though. Definitely alter the balance of power in the U.S.
