  1. In Alliance Fanatic's defense, I don't think he meant all "left-wingers"... ...only those that have come here as of late to spam the boards with their baseless accusations and innuendo. As a conservative, I come here because of left-oriented individuals. I enjoy reading views from all sides of the spectrum. This board offers opinions from across the political spectrum. There aren't too many boards that can claim this. What I don't appreciate is the adolscent name calling and I'm concerned that this message board will deteriorate as a result.
  2. Hey... ...I don't think you can fault Martin for thinking the Conservatives are Un-Canadian... This is they same guy that thinks the D-Day landings occurred in Norway and that hundreds of millions of people inhabit Canada. The old guy is probably just a little confused because his ships fly these: http://www.flags.net/elements/gif_flags/BRBD001.GIF
  3. I guess the Lieberal/Tory deal in the last election hasn't quite been completed yet.
  4. I see Belinda's comments as beneficial to the party's cause. They help alleviate some of the concerns the more socially liberal Ontario voter may have with respect to the Conservative party.
  5. August... ...as far as I can tell, there is no ignore feature on these boards. As I said, I don't have time to read through alot of this nonsense nor do I wish too. If political discussion is going to deterioate as it appears to be, I will simply choose not to visit. Others seeking serious discussion may elect to do so as well. As for freedom of expression, this is a private message board. I'm assuming the administration can decide who and who cannot participate in these discussions.
  6. Its too bad, eh. The hysterical rantings of some individuals has definitely brought down the quality of discourse on this site lately. I really don't have the time to wade through so many ridiculous comments let alone author a response.
  7. Well I don't agree with the presumption that the Conservatives have a neo-liberal agenda, but if abortion is a big issue for you, I don't think you will find what you are looking for within the Conservative party.... ....I don't see the will for them to try to restrict abortion significantly. At best, perhaps late-term abortions, but otherwise, no significant legislation will b±9„ßssed in my opinion.
  8. The Lieberals and their supporters are truly getting desperate. Latest reason to not vote Conservative... ...lack of experience. Ah, these are desperate times for a truly pathetic party. Tell you what... ....if I was hiring a new employee and I find out that the applicant manipulated funds from his former employer for his benefit and the benefit of his friends, I would laugh him outta my office and ask him never to return.
  9. Funny... ...I heard that Harper would be giving a press conference in Quebec City tomorrow. Is he flying out to B.C. after that? As for rushing their leader out to B.C.... ...there is still 3 weeks left in the campaign. I really doubt they've hit the panic button at the CPHQ. He's got lotsa time to come here.
  10. The Green Party is actually too fiscally conservative for the NDP supporter. NDP dies, a new socialist party would emerge to take its place.
  11. Never happen. The NDP has a core support that could not find comfort in any of the other existing parties. Hypothetically, if for some reason the NDP were to cease to exist, another party would form to take its place.
  12. He already is. Nice strategy by Jackie. Instill fear in their supporters that the Conservatives are a dangerous radical party with a hidden agenda. What is the likely outcome of such a strategy? I doubt any small "c" conservatives will come flocking to his party. I doubt this will entice any Lieberal support to switch their allegience and vote NDP. Most likely outcome is that some of the gains he made from disaffected Lieberal supporters will be lost. He should've stuck with trying to paint the Lieberals and the Conservatives as one in the same. In this way he could try to create more space for his party on the left side of the spectrum. All this will do is send any red-liberal support he may have gained back to the Lieberals.
  13. I agree with M.S. on this one. With Martin out of the country, he will most likely receive only favourable press... ...Lieberal's fortunes will more likely improve with him away than not.
  14. Well.... ...there go all those seats that they were going to win in Quebec. How serious of a blow? Well, I think the force of a one-year-old blowing out a birthday candle would cause more damage than a Lieberal endorsement by Andre Bachand to the Conservative cause. Conservatives will still wallow in the low teens in Quebec.
  15. Stephen Harper is Protestant
  16. Willy: I wonder if the poster you quoted isn't part of the Martin campaign team.... ...would explain some of the horrible polling numbers for the Lieberals. People aren't that naive and attempts to paint the Conservatives as baby eating monsters hurts the credibility of those that make such ludicrous allegations. The Lieberals already have a serious credibility problem. Comments like this only help the Conservatives.
  17. OOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooh. And we're supposed to be 'impressed' with that? That's called 'hedging'. They know Harper is gunna rape atlantic Canada if he manages to eek out a majority. (And that might be a good idea, but not for premiers, who thrive on Western-subsidized pork) What a thoughtful, insightful post. [/sarcasm] The Atlantic premiers endorse the Conservative party because they know that the Conservatives will "rape their provinces." Make sense everyone? Me thinks they would warn their respective populations that this new party is dangerous if they did indeed believe the nonsense that you allege.
  18. I wouldn't worry Kliege. The Alliance always polled low in between elections, but somehow finished with a much higher share of the popular vote. It would be interesting to see the next round of polling numbers. Martin's campaign is going about as well as I expected, which isn't all that great. However, the New Conservatives have started off extremely well. Endorsements from all Atlantic premiers and now John Crosbie, a rabid Anti-Alliance, PC supporter, is now considering running for the Conservatives. I doubt the Lieberals can maintain 50% polling numbers in the Atlantic much longer. Me thinks Syrup's dreams of Offical Opposition for the NDP will never materilize... ....the Lieberals wont fall that far down.
  19. The Greens overtaking the NDP is more likely than then NDP coming within a few percentage points of the Conservatives. As for a Lieberal - Conservative coalition... ...never gonna happen. If the Conservatives were in the position to form a minority governement, they would need to look at the BLOC for support to pass legislation. A formal coalition has already been ruled out.
  20. Michael, I think that Paul Martin does not have a lock on winning the election, so I would say that there is some doubt. A year ago, it seemed like the next election would be a formality, much like the Lieberal leadership race. But after seeing Martin's performance, I don't feel that that is the case anymore. If I were forced to make a prediction, I would say that Martin will get less than 155 seats. He could very will be Prime Minister of a minority government, but there is a slight chance.... ... that he wont be
  21. Gunner, The Reform Party and the Alliance party had always polled low in between elections. The actual vote results were always higher. I wouldn't feel comfortable making any conclusions based on comparisons. I think the change or trend in numbers for each pollster is much more informative.
  22. Ever since the creation of the Reform Party of Canada. It is extremely unlikely that the change in polling numbers can be attributed to Clark's comments during CTV's Question Period. I think the region where Clark's words are given the least attention is British Columbia. Personally, I think Clark should stop masquerading as a conservative. His home his with you and your party. It isn't lost on me how most socialists admire and praise the man... ...of course they should - he's one of them.
  23. That is not entirely accurate. The polling results have been quite volatile in B.C. Latest Ipsos Reid Poll has the Conservatives in last place, but the same pollster had them in first place just seven days earlier. I know you wouldn't suggest that a monumental shift occurred during this one week period. I'd put my money on the sample size being more of a factor. Not worried about Converative fortunes in the next election in B.C. But I can't say that I'm thrilled with the provincial numbers.
  24. Maple... ...too bad we couldn't have a wager whether the NDP or the Conservatives would finish with more seats. A friend of mine, card carrying NDP-er, is willing to bet that the Lieberals will win another majority.... ....she is so convinced that I think I'll try to get her to give me some odds.
  25. No. I'm voting for the NDP, the only party that actually speaks to what Canadians want. They speak to you perhaps, but they do not speak for Canadians as a whole... ...and they definitely do not speak for me.
