This is just like the GST cut. The CPC trys to pass it off as "something for the little guy", when in reality when the numbers are run, it is the wealthy who benifit the most. As White Doors so correctly put it "enough of this smoke and mirrors."

Are Tory Anti-Dion Ads Illegal?

Nope. Actually yes there is one thing in the ads that is false. A cookie to who can guess it first. -

CBC is pro-liberal and that's where my tax dollars were going. It would be the equivalent for you if you lived in the States and your tax dollars were going to a Sean Hannity/Ann Coulter lovefest. I bet you'd LOVE that... So is the CBC the ONLY media available? Because the only way the MSM could be labeled Liberal is if the CBC is the only MS Media. But even for a so-called Liberal friendly media outlet they sure didn't pull any punches when attacking Martin as was mentioned above. CTV ranks way above CBC in terms of viewership. Plus there is CanWest. So I would argue that the majority of MSM is actually Conservative or Right wing Bias, if they have any true bias at all. Sorry but the Liberal MSM is gone. Doesn't exists anymore. -
Apparenlty you missed this post, maybe not? But it still seems like a fitting rebuttal to what you have wrote. The party may deserve to be bashed for over a decade of ineffectiveness, the man does not.

Good advice for Stéphane Dion.

Seriously you need to lose this "Liberal media" paranoia. Are CanWest and CTV "Liberal Media"? -

Getting rich by working to save the environment isn't credible Stéphane. Try again. How about a link to your source? -
Sounds like you are ready for a new political party. Want to start a centralist party, little bit of the left, little bit of the right and end up somewhere just above centre?

I dunno I'm pretty good at RISK. When did politics become "real world"? From what I have heard from his contemporaries he is a very smart man. And this is based on 3-4 months as opposition party leader? I liked the Martin from about 4 years ago. The more pressure that was put on him to first become PM then when he was PM the more he seemed to fit his billing of Mr. Dithers. In the end I felt sorry for him as he looked frazzled and out of step during the last campaign. A different man than what used to tell the house about billion dollar surpluses in his budget every year.

Tories to Run Negative TV Ad Campaign

...and for every one year of Harper rule in which to find broken promises, there has been 13 Liberal. It's more or less a better track record, wouldn't you say? Um...no. You can find 10 Liberal broken promises for every 1 of Harpers. Yet the Liberals were in power 13 years compared to the current 1 of Harper. 10:13 1:1 I would say there is a higher ratio of Conservative broken-promises:years-in-power than there is of Liberal broken-promises:years-in-power. Ofcourse these are hypothetical numbers. Although I would be interested to see how any govt really stacked up. See what kind of percentage of promises they actually kept during time in office. -
So are you saying I could beat him at a game of RISK? I highly doubt that. Incompetent people don't have the amount of letters following their names that Dion does. He may be a lot of things but accusing him of being stupid is completely off target. I think you just want Martin back to ensure a CPC majority.

Dion was only evnironment minister for 18 months, just how much is he supposed to have done? Did he accomplsh 50% more than what Ambrose has done to this point? Seriously.... In the 18 months he was in charge of the environment ministry how much of the blame for the 150+months of Liberal ineffectiveness should fall on him? I just had to look this up because the way everyone bashes him it is like he was environment minister for 12 of the 13 years the Liberals were in power. The fact is he was in office for barely 10% of the total time and during that time he was hamstrung by a minority govt. I fail to see where it is justified that he be responsible for the failure of 3 majority govt.s to do anything significant about the environment.
-
It might not look good on you but I bet he would agree that yes it is hard to set priorities. Which it is, when you are doing it for a large number of people. Just out of curiosity, could explain how your job, or the one you were thinking of, would be similar to what the minister of the Environment would have to deal with.
-
I don't think the govt is going to pass a bill that would eliminate 90% of the govt work force.
-
I beg to differ. I think a good leader identifies himself with the common person. Which includes admitting to his faults that we all know everyone has some of. Wasn't Iggy in the States at the time? Isn't it true that he was not part of the Govt and therefore quite likely doesn't know what he speaks of? And as you have said it is true that it is hard to make priorities, how can you fault a man(Dion) for telling the truth? He was being honest, albeit in a funny voice, but honest just the same. I am not going to hold it against any politician for being honest, regardless of how much like a chipmunk they sounded. Come on now. Harper basically suspended his party member's right to free speach. That is going a bit further than being "a little strict".
-
But you do agree setting priorities can be difficult. Why not? If it isn't easy, why should they lie and say it is? Admitting there is a tough decision to make doesn't make a person any less of a leader. Although failure to make any decision certainly would.

Thought you had me on ignore.... Ah the good ole days.
-
Ofcourse this comes from the new CPC ad about Dion. But let's examine this for a minute. Is it easy to set priorities? Perhaps for yourself. Maybe for your family too. As the head of a small company you would be required to set some. Maybe you would find that easy too. But let's think bigger. Put yourself in a situation where there are 1000 distinct groups, and to help one group you do a dis-service to another, how easy would it be to set priorities? How do you decide who gets what and who gets nothing? Are the priorities a reflection of your own personal feelings? Are the priorities dictated by numbers? Just how would you set and define your priorities?

We pay while Indians live in luxury
Who's Doing What? replied to geoffrey's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I acknowledge Canadian history. I fully support payments for the boarding school torture and abuse. Where I say you can "go stuff your hat" is when I'm told everything from Vancouver Island to Newfoundland is Native land and compensation, absurd compensation is demanded. To accuse me or my generation of trying to assimilate or outright destroy native culture is a joke. In my lifetime the Native culture has been celebrated, taught, expanded and funded more than it ever has since Europeans arrived in North America. Then I hear "It's not enough" no matter how much is given, or how many billions a year is pumped into helping and providing for natives "it's not enough". It gets tired on the ears pretty quick. Then there is the whole notion that because a person is native they should be exempt from certain laws. Now if a native wants to live like a native from 300 years ago and hunt and fish for food I can understand being exempt from hunting and fishing seasons and licenses. But when they stand there with their "white-man's" guns, wearing their "white man's" clothes, driving their "white man's" cars, trucks and ATV's, finding their location by using their "white man's" GPS system, and sleeping in their "white man's" trailer with it's "white man's" propane stove, I just get overwhelmed by the hypocricy of them saying they want "TRADITIONAL" hunting and fishing rights and lands. The term "white man" is used as I have heard natives use it. Personally I don't care if the person who made something was white, black, purple or orange. So no I will not blindly accept some 300 year old treaty. If that threatens your Canadian Identity I'm sorry. Although I would think no Canada at all is a bigger threat to anything considered Canadian, including your identity. -

Legalising and Regulating Prostitution
Who's Doing What? replied to BC_chick's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Would not regulating the sex trade provide the means to stem the drug and physical abuse problems involved with prostitution? "You want to be a prostitute?" Get a permit. "You want to keep your permit?" Test clean for drugs. "You want to purchase the services of a prostitute?" Go to a designated building within a designated area. You will be filmed going in and filmed coming out, and if the prostitute you used is injured you will face charges. Seems simple to me. -

How about a 1.5% income tax reduction on the first $30,000 earned? Or an overall 20% income tax that has no exceptions, deductions or other bullshit? So no deductons for popping out more rugrats? And no $500 sports refund vote purchase? If we can raise the tax-exempt amount to $15,000 I'm all for it.

Tories to Run Negative TV Ad Campaign
Who's Doing What? replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Please show where it was she demanded a cabinet post. Not that I doubt you, I just don't think I have actually read where she is quoted as demanding that for herself. She got one as soon as she switched. Remember? I'm a Yank and I remember. The stench reached all the way from the Rideau to the Hudson River. I remember she got it, I just don't think I have ever seen where she demanded it. It could have been offered to her as a further snub to the CPC party by the Liberals, but that is a far cry from using as a reason to question her principles. Being offered it and demanding it are two different things. -

Why did she need a Cabinet seat as an inducement if she was so principled? Please show where it was she demanded a cabinet post. Not that I doubt you, I just don't think I have actually read where she is quoted as demanding that for herself.
