  1. Convenient like the Toronto Dominion bank who pays taxes in the Bahamas because they have branches there. And convenient like international companies who operate in Canada and pay taxes here. Or didn't you know that that is how the international community works?
  2. Canadians know that those who are responsible have been caught and have been charged. They also know that this is not a Liberal party thing. And it was not a Liberal program... it was a government program and your Con MPs also dipped into the fund for sponsorship of events in their ridings. I am blaming a Tory Guite who was a rotten apple under Mulroney and who was able to continue under the Liberals to line his own pockets and receive kick-backs for rewarding his friends.
  3. Some students can now get grants and that hasn't increased tuition fees. At least it's not a bonus given to parents and called education help for university students. $3000 over four years is not very much. Who sets the tutition fees for universities? Federal or provincial?
  4. I agree, your argument is lame. Don't give up though I have heard of a talking dog that supports your position, maybe you two could hook up and create a blog with as much credability as the the one you have posted here. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Favorite Con trick...... when they can't address the issues, they attack the person. Now who has ....... promised tax cuts, promised not to alter abortion laws, pledged to make government “smaller” and pledged to increase the military???? Who???
  5. Kinsella was kicked out of the Liberal war room. He ran nothiing but stuffing envelopes. LOL As for the media, they fancy themselves as making the news instead of reporting the news and they fancy that they can force Canadians to vote for whom they choose. And they choose Harper cause they fancy they can shove him down Canadians throats. After all, Harper dressed up as Santa and passed out chocolates to the media. < barf >
  6. Hand-picked????? And your proof for that is???? He may have been a civil servent under Mulroney as he worked on Mulroney's ad awards to Lyin Brian's friends and his experience was a great asset to run the Liberal ad program and he remained a civil servant throughout his Liberal gov years. He was not hand-picked to shovel money to his friends who gave him kick-backs. Have you not paid attention to the Gomery report? Obviously not. Gomery singled Guite out as running the same type of program under Mulroney. Nowhere in Gomery's report did he state that Guite reported to the PMO. This is just moree Con lies cause they think Canadians don't pay attention. Maybe you will finally accept the truth when the court cases start in May and Guite and his friends have to return the $41 million they stole.
  7. Don't offer only families with children under the age of six years $25 per week and call it day-care. It's not day-care. It's a baby bonus. How stupid do you think Canadians are? And what are families suppose to do with their seven year olds? Their eight year olds? ETC??? '' BELGIUM: Parliamentary democracy under a constitutional monarch. Under the 1994 constitution, autonomy was granted to the Walloon region (Wallonia), the Flemish region (Flanders), and the bilingual Brussels-Capital region; autonomy was also guaranteed for the Flemish-, French-, and German-speaking “communities.” The central government retains responsibility for foreign policy, defense, taxation, and social security.'' ( SOURCE: © 2000–2005 Pearson Education, publishing as Infoplease)http://www.infoplease.com/pages/copyright.html Canadian voters, do you want a ''Belgium-ized Canada'' -- that is, a country divided up into autonomous provinces/territories?'' That's what you can expect IF you were to ever elect HARPER and the Reform/Alliance Conservatives!! But Harper does NOT tell you this in plain words. He just glibly suggests that Canada might adopt the Belgium model of federal government; that he would give more powers to the provinces/territories, especially Quebec and reduce the role of the federal government, without spelling out the details. His hidden agenda are in the details. Here are some of the details: Harper supports an elected SENATE highly influenced by the provinces. An elected Senate would trump the primary parliamentary function and responsibilities of the House of Commons -- just as it does the House of R. in the USA. You would be paying very large salaries to Harper and his caucus for doing little work-- (remember when Harper and his neo-con caucus refused to show-up in the H or C for one of the readings of Godale's finance bill?, or when they refused to show up for work in committees? and when Stockwell Day suggested that the H of C should shut down from Thursdays through Mondays? -- and for their vastly reduced responsibilities --four in total, ''a la Harper's Belgium model,'' expressed some months ago: (1) foreign policy, (2) defence; and Harper and his western group would only (3) collect your taxes to build up and maintain the Armed forces (to help George Bush); and his ''soc-con'' policies would probably make it very difficult for you to get (4) social security benefits (Harper and the ''soc-cons'' are promising you reduced taxes, but they don't tell you ( hidden agenda) that if they let you keep more in your pocket to spend, then you are going to have to look after yourself and families by paying much more than you are allowed to keep, for ALL the services and health benefits that you may/will need. The federal civil service would be drastically reduced since ALL other federal government services but these four areas, would be handed over to the provinces. Imagine Canadians having NO federal department of Justice, no Supreme Court of Canada (the SCC would be useless since each autonomous province would be administering and pronouncing on its own laws), of health, of immigration, of employment/unemployment insurance, of fisheries, of agriculture, of human resources, of public works, of communications and transportation, of language, culture/Arts and bilingualism, of security, RCMP, and CiSIS; and all the other federal departments now in existence!! When Harper and his Reform-Alliancers/Neo-cons went out this past Summer trying to re-design and soften his ice-cold, angry, straight-jacket, stoic image, just remember what's behind the fake smile, the nice guy, the smoothe, it's-okay-to-trust-me image. Just recall the Harris ''common-nonsense Revolution, and the anguished legacy that that government left for Ontarians. Recall the Harris-Manning 'think-tank' report on Canada's health system, as opposed to the Romanov report!! If we elect (Harper to govern), we will deeply regret it!!!
  8. Only one of many lies that Harper has told. He's starting to reveal his true nature.... liar, mean-spirited and don't give a rats a** for Canada. As for his other lie that Martin registered his ships outside of Canada so he wouldn't have to pay Canadian taxes..... where the f does Harper expect an INTERNATIONAL company to pay it's taxes????? Martin had an INTERNATIONAL company with 15 ships registered in Canada and it's headoffice in Canada but other ships were registered and running out of other countries and the taxes were paid to the country where the ships are registered. Why can't Harper and his Cons get their minds around this concept... INTERNATIONAL companies pay taxes all over the world. Elementary.
  9. Harper-Bush, Bush-Harper.... both neo-cons who look after their friends and the rest can go to h*ll.
  10. Don't you Cons EVER pay attention????? The perps who stole the Adscam money have been charged and sued for $42 million and they will be appearing in court this May. In fact, one of the perps, Chuck Guite is an old Mulroney Tory and he was the one running the show with his doleing out the monies to his friends who kicked back to him.
  11. Ah..... I see, again, the Harperites cannot refute or dispute what Harper is really like under all that sugar-coated "me-too" policy that he has been sprouting these past weeks, so they attack me instead. Pocketrocket, you do your math the same as your fearless leader, Harper. The savings in your example would be $3.00 and not $30.00 but that's okay. Harper isn't very good with a calculator either. He said that a family making $60,000 would save $400 with his GST plan. He also plans to build $2 billion worth of icebreakers that will cost $3 billion.
  12. Yes, Martin's plan is finally starting to work. ============================= As part of a deal requiring Ottawa to spend an extra $41 billion on health over 10 years, the provinces and territories agreed to set benchmarks in September, 2004 during a first ministers' meeting. The money includes $4.5 billion over six years to reduce waiting times for treatment, and $3.5 billion in additional transfers to the provinces and territories over two years -- which will then be boosted by a six per cent a year "escalator clause" to keep up with rising health costs. Liberal Leader Paul Martin said Monday that the strategy agreed upon in 2004 is already working and has resulted in a reduction in wait times. "We're talking about a plan that has been put in place for a year-and-a-half and it is working." "Let me tell you," he added, "that the most powerful pressure you can bring on any government, in fact, is to have a set of measurements in front of Canadians. And they will decide whether you are achieving (them)." CTV News
  13. Not that's an example of the media lying. Harper has done the biggest pandering to Quebec this past week that will surely help separatism. Besides Harper is not saying anything new or differenct than what has always been happening with seat distribution. He is making an issue out of a non-issue that Elections Canada does automatically every few years..... seat distribution based upon population. Wonder what Harper's next "me-too" policy announcement will be. Spruce trees can now be used a Christmas trees?
  14. The media printed a recent picture of Harper at Calgary airport hugging his kids as he arrived home. His kids were stiff and their shoulders were withdrawn and hunched up and their arms were hanging down at their sides..... Why is that? Why did Harper's kids look like they were just tolorating his hug? Why weren't Harper's kids not returning their dad's hug with hugs of their own? Kids responding to a parent hug is not a gimmick. Kids looking like they don't want their parent hugging them says alot about that parent.
  15. That statement is false since it is Harper who is trying to dismantle Canada into ten or more separate governments. Just as Mulroney appeased Quebecers with Meech and Charlotton Accords, so too Harper is saying he will give Quebec special privilages which, if elected, he would have to extend these to all provinces and the federal government would have no role as each province went it's own way and did what they wanted. Canada would be a mess of governments with no international voice and no standards. Martin vowes to fight to keep a strong federal government in partnership with the provinces and to stop separatism in Quebec and to speak with one international voice.
  16. Harper's tax policies bring to mind visions of Brian Mulroney running huge deficits and Mike Harris slashing programs to pay for his tax cuts and the suffering he caused to those who needed a hand-up, not a slap down.
  17. The liberals defended Hans Island and they will defend our northern borders. No doubt about it. Harper is going to spend $2 billion to build 3 ice-breakers that are really going to cost $3 billion, and the ice is melting? What a joker he is.
  18. The posts were deleted because they were lies. The media hasn''t reported on this because it is a lie. Who started the lie? Not liberals. Who is trying to keep the lies going? The Cons.
  19. Yup, that media sure is lying as they praise Harper as they giggle and discuss how on the bus Harper dressed up as Santa (he's sure got the belly for the role) and handed out little boxes of chocolates to the press and then they try to force the vvoters to accept their choice for our next PM.
  20. Harper the good? What a crock. He would do and say anything to move into 24 Sussex Drive.... anything!!! Stephen Harper's big promises of the day: "Providing an army emergency response capability through the new airborne battalion and airlift capacity stationed at CFB Trenton to provide a rapid emergency response capability throughout the entire Arctic region." And this "is exactly what Harper and company were promising back in the spring. "In the by-election. "In Labrador. "For CFB Goose Bay. "One assumes, solely for the sake of argument, that the Trenton promise is entirely unrelated to both (a) the results of the 2004 general election in the riding of Northumberland-Quinte West, and ( the results of the 2005 by-election in the riding of Labrador." Ouch.
  21. Stephen Harper’s attempts to crowd the centre of the political spectrum are belied by his stand on gay marriage. That is Harper’s social conservatism at his basic hard core. The rest of Harper's agenda is totally social conservative as well. The Tory day-care scheme, like all the tax relief Harper is promising, is part of Harper's social conservatism. Harper is arguing that we must trust individual Canadians to do what they want and we must regard the state as a collective bully always sticking its nose in the private affairs of its citizens. Everything from the shaving of the GST by a couple of points is geared by Harper to Canadians as individual taxpayers and not as members of that dreaded alternative, the state. Harper's two-tier medicare position is the same. Political expediency made Harper seem to support medicare, but if there’s any waiting time that’s a bit too long well then go to a private clinic and medicare will pay for it. Harper has been "a lifelong opponent of public medicare." When Harper headed the National Citizens Coalition he was overwhelmingly against public medicare. Harper is a prot é g é of Preston Manning who was, and is now, the leading opponent of public medicare. Harper's stand on childcare is part of his social conservatism. Harper was "a career opponent of publicly funded childcare." Now he’s posing as "the working parents' best friend." Harper is trying to help stay-at-home moms in preference to moms who need to work and need day care for their children. Harper is like Bismarck, saying a woman's place is in the kitchen and at home. Harper's law-and-order stand is also very socially conservative. Harper would abolish the gun registry, but has no plans to outlaw handguns. Harper sees handguns as a gun collector's individual right over the need to control handguns and their use in crimes and killings. Harper's cut in the GST is a tax break that mainly benefits bigger spenders in upper income brackets. Harper's GST cut favours the rich over the ordinary Canadian. "Your country and particularly your conservative movement is a light and an inspiration to people in this country and across the world." Canada, said Harper, "was a Northern European welfare state in the worst sense of that term." http://www.cbc.ca/news/viewpoint/vp_zolf/20051219.html
  22. Private Health Care clinic weren't allows across Canada until the NDP supported the private abortion clinics even though there were publicly funded abortions available in hospitals. So the NDP opened the door to private clinics and now they want to slam that door shut. Martin is fighting to adequately fund and regulate the public health care system so the private system won't get a foothold and Jack Layton is shooting him down with rhetoric while Harper doesn't care who pays the health care bill as long as his buddies can get a foothold and destroy the public system, which was the intent of his NCC when he was president and which is the intent of Manning and Harris. SO first we had private abortion clinics, which the NDP supported, then we got the private MIR clinics and the Eye clinics. The Liberals did stop the Eye clinics by requiring that they must be paif by public health care monies. The Liberals also provided more money for MRI machines in the public system which stopped more MRI clinics from starting up. Now the Liberals have reached agreements with the provinces for wait-time bemch marks and have provided the funding to lower the wait-times. The Libs, who the Cons say balanced the budget in 1996 with health care $$$, have returned those funds to the provinces because Canada can now afford to do so without running the huge deficits that Mulroney did. Martin increased health care funding by $41 billion. Harper will guarantee health care and he don't care where it comes from but we can be sure it will come from his and Manning and Harris' friends from the USA with their private clinics. In 2004 the annual premium for a health plan covering an American family of four averaged $9,950 US or $829 US monthly. Premiums are expected to average more than $14,500 US in 2006. The US health-care industry, including providers, pharmaceutical companies and insurance industries, is worth $4 trillion US annually. They spend a combined $400 million US annually on lobbying. Wonder who much of that is being spent on lobbying in Canada? Billion-dollar corporations dominate the private health-care industry. Given that 90 percent of all corporate stock is held by 10 percent of the shareholders, 60 percent of all shareholders are other corporations, and the top one percent own half of all the stock, there is little doubt that privatization will transfer health-care risk form the moral domain to the balance sheet. Harper, Manning and Harris will be well rewarded if they can bring these corporations to Canada. Yes Canada could trim it's administration within the health-care system but we ain't seen nothing compared to what the private system charges for administration.
  23. Yes Martin DID allow his backbench MPs a free vote on the SSM law as did the Bloc. Only the Ministers had to vote with the government. Those who keep on saying that only the conservatives allowed a free vote are being dishonest. What did the Supreme say about ssm and the Charter of Rights and Freedoms? http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/samesexr...4scc079.wpd.txt
  24. All doctors work out of private clinics. So what is so different about Martin's doctor? Does Martin pay his doctor with a credit card or his health care for the doctor's services as Canadians are prone to do across Canada.
  25. It matters who delivers our health care. Multiple studies on health care published by the New England Journal of Medicine, the Journal of American Medical Association, McGill University, McMaster University and the COnsumers Association of Canada conclude that private-for -profit clinics raise health-care costs. A University of Toronto study, and studies in Britian and New Zealand, suggest private-pay tier systems lead to longer wait times. The US spends 15.3% of it's GDP on health care, Switzerland 10.9%, Germany 10.7%, Canada 9.7% and France 9.5%. Health Care premiums in the US are expected to be $14,500 in the US in 2006. Nearly 45 million Americans do not have health insurance, or 16% of the population. Health-care costs are the No. 1 reason for personal bankruptcy. Privatization affects quality as confirmed by documents recently released by the U.S. Health and Human Resource Administration with deterioration in health care noted in almost all components of quality, such as effectiveness and timeliness and almost all condition areas, such as cancer and diabetes. Most notable was a 32 % increase in the proportion of patients who left the country's emergency departments without being seen and a 20% increase in the proportion of elderly patients with pneumonia who failed to receive their initial antibiotic. -Joe Anglin, founders and principal of Anglin Stewart Investment Group Inc. www.anglinstewart.com
