  1. Please let us all in on any leaders who had publicly insulted Dubya? Sorta like Steve's handling of China? Manners? Try comparing Chretien's words with the insults of Steve. Chretien wins and is entertaining besides.
  2. What on earth do you spend $4000 taxable dollars on each month? Transparency has disappeared with this new act. Freedom to Information will be worse. Spending $50 billion a year and paying $50 billion a year are different. And what Flaharety was talking about was "net" debt while using pension funds like to CPP, Teachers Pensions, etc to make his "net debt" look rosier. It's a sham. You need the "taxable" $100 per month if you continue to buy $4000 worth of gst taxed goods each month. I think this family allowance of $100 per month for kids under the age of 6 years is a joke. It won't even buy beer and popcorn after paying the taxes. It certainly doesn't provide for the needs of a family. like Headstart or day care for parents who are forced to work and need child care spaces. Inexperienced and immature stance.
  3. Actually this law was voted on more fairly that when Harper whipped his MPs for the "Quebecers is a Nation" vote last week when he had MPs hiding behind the curtains. The Bloc had a free vote and the Liberals had a free vote except for the caucus. Only the NDP whipped their MPs and ejected their one MP who voted against the SSM bill. This babbling that there was insufficient debate and not a free vote is bogus. The debate lasted more than three years and it went through the Supreme Court plus seven provinces have legalized SSM. When will Steve quit playing his political games? Even his hard-right supporters are mad at him regarding the wording of this bill cause he allows for civil-union for gays which was not what he promised on the campaign trail. Promises made, promises broke.
  4. Steve has not forgot his cronies. They are popping up in positions all over his government.
  5. You reported my post to the moderator???????????????? Amazing!!! Simply pointing out what the rules are usually works quite well. So why then is Harper not in Quebec claiming authorship for the Clarity Act???? He just allows Quebecers to blame Dion for the Clarity Act. But please for the sake of accuracy, quit crediting Harper with the Clarity Act when in fact he came up with the Quebec Contingency Act which was inferior to the Clarity Act. There weren't two NEP Acts, just one with one architects. Please familiarize yourself with the Clarity Act. This Act only sets the conditions for any questions in a referendum. Nothing within the Act pertains to assets or mineral rights, etc. These are separate issues that would automatically belong to the province if the referendum question met the guidelines of the Clarity Act. August, I can't help noticing that you have added to your post and those last three paragraphs are very familiar to what was written in one of the media yesterday. Do you have a link for that quote?
  6. If you are going to praise the Clean Air Act then it is only fair that the facts are presented regarding Kyoto. Stephane Dion's Project Green was just started when the Liberals lost the election and Harper quickly canceled all the projects. The policies and programs under Project Green address environmental initiatives for the 21st century, including measures to improve our energy efficiency and our waste management practices, conserve our biodiversity, protect our water, clean up contaminated sites, ensure cleaner and healthier air and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. -end quote More details
  7. Actually third party advertising is perfectly okay. It is just limited to $3000 per riding, and the NCC was trying to spend way above that amount. Quote from Elections Canada: The Act regulates election advertising by third parties: groups or persons other than candidates, registered political parties or their riding associations. After spending $500 on advertising that promoted or opposed a party or candidate during the election campaign, third parties had to register with the Chief Electoral Officer. They were allowed to spend up to $150 000 overall, but not more than $3 000 in any single riding, with inflation adjustments; the adjusted limits for this general election were $152 550 and $3 051. If the third party was a group with a governing body (such as a trade union, corporation or other entity), the application for registration had to include a copy of the resolution passed by its governing body authorizing it to incur election advertising expenses.
  8. Anyone want to know what will happen to grain farmers if Steve and Chuckie destroy the Wheat Board just has to look at what has happened to the pork industry. For example, when there was a single desk for pork in Manitoba, there were 4,000 plus pork producers and five packing plants in the province. Since the single desk was removed, they now have only about 1,300 or 1,400 hog producers in the province and one packing plant. Just how much do you want to pay for a loaf of bread? Besides all that, the grain farmers already had a vote a few years ago and over 2/3 voted to retain the single desk with the CWB. Controlled by western Canadian farmers, the CWB is the largest wheat and barley marketer in the world. As one of Canada’s biggest exporters, the Winnipeg-based organization sells grain to more than 70 countries and returns all sales revenue, less the costs of marketing, to Prairie farmers. What Steve is doing is making way for his friends like Cargill to take over marketing our grain, so they can keep the profits instead of paying it to the farmers. The Bush administration issued a report in February 2003 that claimed the board enjoys advantages such as low-interest loans and use of government-owned rail cars, and that its monopoly status protects it against market risks. Canadian grain trade organizations replied that the WTO allows for bodies such as the CWB, as long as they comply with commercial business practices. In February 2004, the World Trade Organization cleared the CWB of American accusations of unfair trade practices. The CWB called it a victory for western farmers. The WTO ruling was the 10th time in 14 years that trade rulings have backed the CWB.
  9. Absolutely wrong. The Old Guard, as you call them did not win because they were backing Rae and Ignatieff. And Rae lost because he use to be the worst NDP premier in Ontario and he just didn't have too many policies in his platform, unlike the other front running candidates. The majority of the voting Liberal members wanted the delegates to elect either Dion or Kennedy, so yes the results were quite satisfactory to all Liberal members. Not like the farce in the Alberta leadership vote, where anyone with $5 could go to the poll, buy a membership and vote to keep Morton out. Which many, many did. And that is also how Dinning lost, to the determent of Alberta.
  10. Except that his English is better than Steve's French.
  11. It surely was not Harper who created the idea of the Clarity Act. So now we know. Steve is not the genius. Both he and Dion took an idea and Dion improved on it better and to a greater extent than Harper.
  12. Let me get this straight. Bryden lends Dion money and then goes to work for Dion for no pay so Dion can pay him back??? And you know all this, how??? Anyone want to read the true facts on Rod Bryden and what an excellent choice Dion made to help him with this transitions should click on this link And for those who are not interested in the facts, the $160 million (not $60) in debt was because of the Ottawa Senators and it was not a bankruptcy that occurred but bankruptcy protection that was granted while looking for someone to buy the team and it's assets. Of course the Senators were sold for $117 million. There was also a group who acquired a minority stake in the Senators for $51 million.
  13. It was not the US that Chretien and some Liberals disliked but the Dubya Bush and now it has been proven that Chretien and some Liberals are in the international majority with regards to their opinion of Bush. Steve cozying up to Dubya has not helped bring him any votes. The fact that Steve gave Dubya a billion of our softwood lumber producers money has lost him more votes. Once Dubya is gone, our next PM will have better relations with Washington. People can say what they want about Jean Chretien but he did a lot for Canada. His government brought Canada back from the brink of bankruptcy and eliminated the deficit, paid down the debt, brought in the Clarity act and kept Canada together, enhanced Canada's image and position internationally, kept Canada out of the war in Iraq, forgave poorer counties the debt they owed Canada, opened up trade to China and India, set up training on Human Rights issues in China, changed the rules for political party donations, put rules in place that the Tory Chuck Guite and all those who have been charged and will be charged under the Judge Gomery inquiry broke, plus there are many more Chretien influences in his 40 years and an MP with 10 years as PM that has brought Canada to the great country it now is with it's citizens enjoying a lifestyle that is the envy of the world. Jean Chretien always was the "little guy from Shawinigate" the neighbor that everyone liked and people related to. Something that Harper never will be but Stephane Dion has the potential to also be like Chretien, accepted by the people as someone they relate to. A common man.
  14. Honest? Let me count the ways. Income Trust, Wait-times, Open Government, No more patronage appointments.... and so on and so on.......... LOLOL
  15. Wow, you amaze me with your unequivicable knowledge of federal politics! p.s. - I think you meant Finley and HER lackies. Oh....... I didn't know that Doug Finley was a she. Learn something new everyday. Thought you meant Martha Hall. My apologies. (picture me looking sheepish with at least one foot in my mouth) Understandable. And it's Martha Hall-Finlay and Doug Finley.

  17. Quote: Stephen Harper’s Conservatives have identified an internal enemy that does not fit their ideology. Using their power as the government, they have started a campaign of suppression and disruption supported by a flood of propaganda and misinformation, utilizing the federal bureaucracy. The target of this attack, an organization 100 per cent funded and democratically controlled by its members, has been permanently stripped of its right to free speech by ministerial order. Their organization is also the subject of Harper government propaganda attacks on an almost weekly basis; it is restricted by a Harper cabinet directive from expending any corporate resources to defend itself. These attacks come in the middle of this organization’s democratic elections for membership to its board of directors. Part of Harper’s attack was a ministerial order attempting to rig the election by removing almost 40 per cent of the organization’s members from automatically receiving a ballot. Worse, the minister deliberately issued the order in the middle of the election so the organization’s members had to incur extra costs to send more than 16,000 letters to those bounced from the electoral rolls in an effort to reinstate eligible voters. The Harper regime is also attacking the organization from within, by using its power to fire appointed directors and replace them with government puppets. Who could this fearsome foe be, and how did we go so many years without recognizing this menace from within? The object of this attack is none other than the Canadian Wheat Board, the marketing arm of the wheat and barley producers of Western Canada, the organization that enables farmers to have some power in the global grain market. In his tenure at the National Citizens Coalition, Harper had almost unlimited funding from undisclosed sources to attack the wheat board, which he did with vigour and stealth. The board returns 98 per cent of its from the global grain market directly to the farmers who produce the grain. This amounts to $4.5- $6 billion per year. That is a tempting revenue stream, which the big five transnational grain companies, who already control 80 per cent of the world grain market, would love to acquire. In Canada, grain farmers recognized this could never be a level playing field and banded together through marketing boards to take on these giant grain privateers. The vast majority of farmers have always understood that there is no future in the proposition that they would do better for themselves by selling out the collective interests of all farmers. These farmers know that the wheat board is the only protection they have for their livelihoods and their communities from the predatory practices of transnational grain companies. Harper appears determined to eliminate farmer market power, and so far his methods have been less than democratic. The farmers who were not removed from the wheat board voting list will indicate their decision on how the board runs when they complete voting for the board of directors on Dec. 1. If they vote true to form, Harper and his supine agriculture minister can expect a stern rebuke in the form of a slate of farmer directors ready to defend the board. If Harper is true to form, we can expect more dirty tricks, propaganda, and autocratic efforts to sandbag the interests of farmers. Ken Larsen is a graduate of the University of Alberta and a full-time farmer. For the past 30 years he has produced grains, forages and cattle west of Red Deer. © Copyright 2005 Red Deer Advocate-end quote Sorry I cannot link to this article but we all know who the big five transnational grain companies are and which country they pay their taxes too. Why is Steve selling Canada out to Bush and company? What is Steve getting in return?
  18. So now all the Alberta Alliance, (is it 2000 members yet?) are going to separate from Canada. And do what?
  19. Too funny. Please everyone keep on underestimating Dion. And plueeeeze... as though Liberal voters would be led around by the likes of Finley and his lackies. Bob Rae hasn't had a chance of winning for the past two months or more. Liberals just let the Tories believe that they were going to vote Rae. Politics is such a fun sport.
  20. uh, I think the question is, what has it ever achieved? You present it as an example of how our dialog with China ought to be handled, so the question is, what's so great about it? What has it ever accomplished? As far as I can determine, it's just as much hot air as Harper's "frank and open" talk of the past week. -k Check for yourself what this dialogue has achieved. quote; In general Chinese participants in the dialogues point to several human rights areas that China has addressed based on foreign input. These include such significant developments as the presumption of innocence in the Criminal Procedures Law, legislation to address violence against women and sexual harassment, and improved procedures in police conduct and prison management. 21. Still the Feds can dictate to the provinces on this issue, except Quebec. Unlike what Steve said that he wants to follow the BNA ACT and let every province be on their own.
  22. Ah yes, they started a process alright. They canceled every program that the Liberal government started, canceled the government web site with all the history of Kyoto and what was being done to improve the environment and came out with their Hot... oops "Clean" Air Act that is a total farce. But what this miserable "new" government didn't count on was that once something is on the internet, it leave a trail. What did the Liberals really accomplish? significantly reduce sulphur levels in diesel fuel; Since 2001, regulations have been implemented to cut down engine emissions of many pollutants such as particulate matter, nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds that come from on- and off-road vehicles, engines and the fuels that power them. “These regulations set stringent new Canadian standards aligned with U.S. requirements,” added the Minister, “and by promoting the competitiveness of Canada’s refining industry, the approach is aligned under the Government of Canada’s Project Green, the broad environmental vision that links Canada’s economic competitiveness and prosperity to a sustainable future.” The regulations introduce controls on sulphur in non-road diesel fuel from the current unregulated level to a 500 milligrams per kilogram (mg / kg) limit in 2007 and a 15 mg/kg limit starting in 2010. This will result in about a 99% reduction in four years from the current, unregulated average level of sulphur in non-road diesel fuel. Increasing our environmental performance; On clean air, we are moving ahead with our Ten Year Clean Air Agenda laid out in 2000, in order to minimize pollution, reduce transportation sector emissions, lower emissions from major industrial sources, improve pollutant reporting by industry, advance clean air science, and engage the public in finding solutions to clean air issues. An Overview of Project Green Canada Launches Project Green "The Plan provides for Government of Canada investments...to fully realize the anticipated reductions of about 270 megatonnes.” David Emerson agreed with Project Green So don't ever say the the Liberal government did nothing for the environment or couldn't meet it's Kyoto obligations cause they were on target to do both, although more needed to be done to meet the targets, and ain't nothin' that Steve can say or do that will change that piece of history.
  23. Well, well, well... seems that Steve is again misleading Canadians. Within the BNA ACT there are shared responsibilities which, if Harper gets his way, will become exclusively provincial and Canadian standards will be no more. For example, under education the BNA Act states: (4) In case any such Provincial Law as from Time to Time seems to the Governor General in Council requisite for the Execution of the Provisions of this Section is not made, or in case any Decision of the Governor General in Council on any Appeal under this Section is not duly executed by the proper Provincial Authority in that Behalf, then and in every such Case, and as far as the Circumstances of each Case require, the Parliament of Canada may make remedial Laws for the due Execution of the Provisions of this Section and of any Decision of the Governor General in Council under this Section. I take that to mean that Ottawa has every right to standardize education standards across Canada and to force the provinces to comply. And another example which exposes the duplicity of Steve: Agriculture and Immigration. 95. In each Province the Legislature may make Laws in relation to Agriculture in the Province, and to Immigration into the Province; and it is hereby declared that the Parliament of Canada may from Time to Time Make Laws in relation to Agriculture in all or any of the Provinces, and to Immigration into all or any of the Provinces; and any Law of the Legislature of a Province relative to Agriculture or to Immigration shall have effect in and for the Province as long and as far as it is not repugnant to any Act of the Parliament of Canada. Seems like Harper is not only trying to rewrite the constitution but also the BNA Act in his own image without consultation of Canadians.
  24. Prevention is always better than the cure. So where is the CPC money to prevent gangs and gun toting criminals? Oh right.............. CPC don't believe in giving the poor a hand up.
