When Dion whips Harper in the next election.....
mikedavid00 replied to gerryhatrick's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I guess that eliminates my wife, an ICU nurse, her father, a lawyer with the Law Society, her mother, a RN and her sister, a Master's graduate from McGill in Physics. I'll tell them they'll have to get back on the boat to London because they are taking some Canadian's job. I said I beleived in worker permits for jobs that we have shortages from. In that case, yes they would have been allowed to come. -

Not true. That's correct. Simply, undeniably false and untrue. That above statement makes my angry and emotional. You are just repeating what they want you to think. If we desperately needed them then why is our unemployment rate so high? , And this creates underemployment and lower wages for us that got educations here in Canada. Lol... wowwww... do your research on this issue and you'll be amazed at how wrong you are on this topic. That is an outright lie that the Liberal party and 'establishment' of Canada wants you to beleive. Our economy is already in collapse and underemployment is rampat here in Canada. Do you know how our healthcare system is deteriorating with 8 month waiting lists? The same is happening with the lives of the average Canadian. I do beleive in immigration, but only if there are work shortages and only for those that come here under worker permits. We do not have any job shortages and quite the opposite have a very high unemployment rate compared to the US. We also have massive, massive, underemployment crisis. I have no problem with immigrants. They are just taking advantage of an easy system to get them out of the third world. My problem is with our gov't that continues to allow this destructive policy that destroys our quality of life. I'm against any immigrant that was here since 1975 and onward. Tell me if you see a pattern in these historic Canadian unemployment percents. 1975 7.1 1974 5.4 1973 5.6 1972 6.3 1971 6.4 1970 5.9 1969 4.7 1968 4.8 1967 4.1 1966 3.6 1965 3.9 -

Not true. Alberta produces more greenhouse gases than Ontario (despite it's much smaller population). This is largely due to the oil patch. In the 1980's it was global cooling, now it's global warming. I feel a reduction in greenhouse gasses can happen by 2050. I find that to be a reasonable timeline. We don't account for the worlds emmisions of gasses so we shouldn't concern ourselves with this. When old equipment gets replaced, maybe we can make it more enironmentally friendly. Untill then, let Europe spend trillions on this. -

Becuase they knew that the Dion/Kennedy deal was fixed and the old establishment was backing it. It was an attempt to get the party away from Quebec and to overthrow the old establishment. Of course, they lost because the old estabishment was too powerful. The weird thing is, Dion was rumored to have also backed Rae if Kennedy fell through due to Dions resentment for Iggy and his Quebec stance. What you saw was not democracy that night, it was insider politics and the old establishment keeping their party in Quebec. I garuntee this is not over and Dion's first election will be his last. And yes, all the political/business elites in the Ontario scene know each other. That goes for the Maple Leaf Chairs, to Stronach, to Rae, Peterson, and of course, Tie Domie. hehe had to throw that in. -

There was nothing racist in his factual statement. Voting blacks in Toronto are not born Canadians whose heritage is from slavory, they are immigrants from Samolia, Haiti, and of course Jamaica. They have the same immigrant concerns as anyone else from India or Pakistan: getting more of their loved ones over. This is a proven fact. Immigrants will vote for the party that will serve these concerns. Look at almost all the ridings the Liberals won and you will find that they are really just a party backed by visible minorities. It's nothing against visible minorities, it's just just a factual statement about who voted for Liberal in the last election. Yes, Kennedy or Rae could have got back the 'white Canadian' sway voter outside the city centers, but that would ONLY happen if people had a reason to vote against Conservative which they do not. I predict that Conservatives will gain almost no seats, and Liberals will pick some up in Quebec. Not 10 seats though. However keep in mind that Harper has worked extremely hard to gain the Chinese vote in Canada so things might change in some of the Ontario/BC ridings. Unless the immigrants gravitate towards the CPC party, they will never have a majority. That is proveable if you look at provincial ridings. Pick any riding in BC for instance that has 30% visible minorities, and you will see that they voted Liberal. Pick any riding outside these areas and you will see that the voted CPC the majority of the time. http://www.cbc.ca/canadavotes/candidatesri...s/bc/index.html You guys are making this more complicated than it is. -

Well they are a left leaning center party. Center at best. Canada doesn't have a right wing party.. unfortunately. We need new private built hosptials and healtchare plans to save our system. We also more importantly need immigration only when we have job shortages. We need more independance for the provinces. WE need to privatise the CBC. These are right wing principles that the CPC do not have. -

You Alberta easterners are so out of touch with BC politics. Burnaby, which borders directly on Vancouver, has two ridings, both of which are in the hands of the NDP, not the Conservatives. And the Vancouver suburbs of Richmond, West Vancouver and North Vancouver are all now in the hands of the Liberals. Prior to 2006, North Vancouver and West Vancouver were Conservative ridings but the Cons chose to run religious extremists as candidates in the January, 2006 election. In Richmond, so-con religious extremist Darrel Reid was the Conservative candidate in January, 2006. Harper muzzled Reid prior to the election but Reid still lost. Now he's Chief of Staff to Rona Ambrose. The Conservatives have now lost BC seats for two consecutive federal elections. I expect with so-con Harper leading them, they will lose seats again in the next election. Emerson's betrayal of the softwood lumber industry won't help Harper nor will his deteriorating relationship with China which is of special importance to BC. Harper's desire to create permanent criminal records for teenagers possessing any quantity of marijua won't help him in BC where support for decriminalization is particularly strong. According to the November 22, 2006 Mustel Group poll of BC, the Conservatives are now down to 33% in BC, the Liberals at 30%, the NDP at 27% and the Greens at 9%. This drop in Conservative popularity means they will lose seats again in the next federal election. 66% of the BC population now supports parties to the left of so-con Harper's party. Other than Quebec, I can think of no other province in Canada where the Conservatives are now less popular. Not a single Vancouver riding went to the Conservatives in 2006. The Conservative candidate in Emerson's riding received less than 20% of the popular vote. Emerson's riding is still filled with lawn signs reading "Recall Emerson". Harper shamed himself by bribing Emerson to switch parties in return for a Cabinet position. And he shamed himself further by making an unelected Quebecer who had been his campaign manager an appointed Senator and Cabinet minister. Harper was elected in January and his sleaziness became evident by February. Garth Turner called Harper on it which is why Turner was bounced from thre CPC. As Turner discovered, telling the truth is not permitted if you're a CPC MP. I dont know why you have to pander these things. Any large area's with at least 30% visible minorities vote liberal. The CPC is a center\left party in many peoples opinions including mine. The Reform party of Canadad that supported immigration only when needed and a two tier helth care system was probably the first and last modern right wing party in Canada. -

They are all in the same elite circle supposeldy in the Toront/Oakville area. Mulrouny sits on the board of Belinda's Dad's company and Bob Rae has ties with all of the above. I think Chris Peterson also is in that circle. All the elites in Canada know one another. -
When Stephen Harper get his Majority...
mikedavid00 replied to Leader Circle's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
And that's what makes our country unique to most other countries. It was Rae or Iggy that could have been the favored ones to bring back the white middle/retired age white swing voter back to the Lib party. Oh that makes all the difference. When we vote we are voting for our country and our issues. When they vote, their number one concern is a relative on a waiting list waiting list (proven). That's why you see certain groups that are heavliy involved in politics. They aren't doing it for fun or because of the love of our country. You have no idea what goes on with these people and how/why they got into Canada. Well 67% of the GTA are made of peoples born outside of Canada. THere are 800,000 poeple that the Liberals left on a waiting list waiting to come here. 1 - China (mostly mainland - not big city Hong Kong'ers) 2 - India (mostly from state of Punjab/Sikh religion) 3 - Pakistan (importing a threat to Canadian security) In that order are the top countries of origin that come here. Last week, we had more full-time jobs lost and a higher unemployment of 6.3 compared to the US's ~4%. The number 1 issue that effects all of us and is almost the cause of all of our problems is needless mass immigration. The ONLY thing immigration helps is the Liberal party of Canada stay in power. And I truly hate them for what they have done to our economy and healthcare system. I'm sorry I just feel so strongly about this because I've researched this so heavily and am one of the few people that know the truth that is going on. We're self destructing our own country like you have no idea. I feel that Canadians really need to understand the crisis this is on all of us. I was actually thinking of putting up a web site and getting pro-active just to let people know what's happening. It is a crisis and the root is a party that likes power. It's so wrong... as a Canadian it hurts. -
Picking a party leader...what's the best method?
mikedavid00 replied to Canuck E Stan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Give the bragging the Tories have done about how they tried to influence the Liberal election, I wouldn't be surprised to see highly organized efforts in the future to undermine the one member, one vote system. Well Ignatieff or Rae would have won under 1 member 1 vote. I forgot to mention in my other post 'What Really Happened On Saturday" that supposedly after Bob Rae's speech the buzz on the floor that he was phenominial and was going to win almost hands down. People were discussing the pro's and con's of having him become an Ontario politician and general concensus was that it was a good idea to have a non Quebec leader. This was even coming from Quebecers. Also there was an incident where Iggnatief pushed a microphone away from a female reporter and told security to 'get her out of here'. He also was being rude and abrupt with delegates and his own supporters which were mostly students. That made its way around teh floor and word got around that Ignatieff wasn't 'being nice' to people and delegates. This had a lot to do with why he didn't gain much momentum from what I heard. If it wasn't for the 1 member 1 vote system, Belinda would be running the CPC party right now. (actually the CPC use a better electoral college system). -
Well here's the most insider stuff I have on what happened on Saturday. I'll make this short. -Dion/Kennedy made previous arrangements to back each other. Both were old party loyalists. Spotted in Toronto resturaunt 4 months previous. Already admitted yesterday that this was planned. Both Rae and Iggy knew of this before hand but didn't bother them. -"Rae public favourite for Liberal leadership: poll Updated Sat. Oct. 14 2006" . Rae and his camp thought he was going to win due to Iggy's lackluster performances and dithering. -Rae previously knew he was getting support from the anti-establishment wing of the party so didn't feel he needed Iggy's vote becuase he fealt it would come down to the 2 of them. -Rae during his speech was show-boating and showing everyone how he's such a seasoned politician that he's able to shoot from the hip and doesn't need cue cards. -There were lots of things that went on at the convention like buttons being passed out, Dion greeting people at the top of an elevator to get in. There was supposedly a lot of drinks flowing during the last couple of ballats. Lots of rumors were going around on the floor. Supposedly people were jumping back and forth based off rumors. You may have seen some iggy/dion signs at some points being held by members who were led by false rumors. Supposedly this was rampat. Young trudeau was in the crowd shmoozing with kiddie voters and had an extreme impact on getting all Kennedy voters to go Dion and not stray. -Dion and Kennedy sided. Despite 6 contenders, and those who worked with Dion, they all backed Rae to send a messege to the establishment. Dion is not known to be liked or that respected by his collegues. -Regardless, Rae ended up in third and decided to back no one becuase he understood what happened and realized that the establishment backing Dion/Kennedy was too strong and the vote wasn't democratic. The bottom line is supposedly Rae (and Iggy) didn't know how to 'play' the Liberal convention. He thougtht people standing beside him would let him win and it didn't. He didn't know how to play the elite power game that the Liberals are known for. Polls mean nothing if your system is setup to be corrupt and chronie-ist. Now I see what Belinda's 1 member 1 vote change was all about. She lost though. The rumor is that Ignatieff will be gone very shortly. Dion is also supposeldy media showboating right now with Kennedy and his position has already been promised. There is a Rae/Molruney/Stronach elitist Ontario connection that may try to take the party over during the right time when it's vunerable. I made a similar prediction. The general feedback on the radio stations has been extremely negative towards Dion because people feel it's 'more of the same' Quebec based polics.

Perhaps Harper will do something about waiting times as it was one of his chief promises in the election. And maybe he could appoint some immigration officials to positions he has left unfilled since he was elected. How many months ago is that? Harper can't afford... sorry.. we as tax payers can't afford to reduce waiting times. We simply can't. All we can do is make sure that the people using teh system have paid into it and that's not happening. The only thing that will save our health care system if immigration is not to be elliminated is to open private hospitals and move to a 2 tier healthcare system. There's no other way.
-
Really. I'd love to see the statistics on that. It's true. We have the most immigrants and refugees per capita than any place on earth and we issue more citizenships per capita than any country on earth. I'm too lazy to re-lookup this information. 50% of Canada speaks English as their first language. If you don't think so then how was it possible that we had a staggaring 50,000 'Canadians' in Lebanon?
-
Did you hear about Ignatieff pushing a reporters microphone out of his face and telling securtity "get her out of here!" like they would throw her out of the convention! lol.. See him in the house of commons today? He was like a fish out of water.

Wishful thinking.. If the blue can just get the immigrant vote the liberals will become a PC party without official status. (people here don't really realize or want to face the fact that the Liberal Party is really a patry almost soley kept alive by the immigrant vote). Ya'll read too much why the Liberal party is still in power. They shouldn't be and won't be for a long, long time. -
Will Stéphane Dion ever be PM of Canada?
mikedavid00 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Gerry, you're such a pushover for any left-sounding intellectual who comes along. Lol! -
What about the millions of 'perminant residents', refugees, and 'non status' in this country? They make up more of our country per capita than anywhere else on eath. Do they not take part in this country? Should't they be allowed to vote?
-
No we need a leaders 'vision'. lol just kidding. Great idea on it's face but it's not politically possible to pass this throgh the house. I also feel the same about poeple who enter the country and expect to use our health care system. It honestly did hurt when a co-workers mother got sponsored in from Pakistan and within her first two months here skipped the queue and got an eye surgery because of the Pakistani connections in our health care system.
-
NATO is not to be taken seriously. Canada got next to nothing at the last meeting. That will become all too clear in the next months when we watch the rest of Europe run from its commitments. Another thing, how is such a small populous country over a large landmass producing any kind of harmful greenhouse emitions as compared to the rest of the world. That's assuming you believe in all this gump. People will see through this and Dion will be out the door. I think in this day and age looking at someone's 'vision' for Canada and the world is a bit tiresom and insulting to the average Canadian voter. Why not a vision of fixing our pathetic healthcare system and immigration crisis.
-
sorry for messing up the poll. I tried to edit it and couldn't.
-
"The Canada that I want" "In My Canada" "The Canada that I vision" "My Vision of Canada" It kind of felt awkard hearing those statements over and over. Does anyone here really seriously think that a Liberal politician will provide them a better life becaue of their visions? I feel that people have seen through this and realize that the gov't isn't there anymore to make our lives rosy. Pander the below and see if you feel this climate of change in the airL Before: You needed 25% down to get a mortgage and own a home. Moms and families with kids on a low income had a problem so the gov't stepped in and built geared to income housing which was a great social safety net for Canadians. We needed the gov't. Now: We can get 0 down mortgages and own a home or condo even if we're not working. Before: You had to go to a heavily protected and regulated Canadian Bank to get a high interest loan for a vehicle and if you weren't wearning the right tie and dress shirt, you were taking the bus from then on. Now: Almost anyone can lease a brand new vehicle with 0% financing from GM etc. The point is, we don't need the gov't the way we used to. The people of Canada are naturally progressing away frm classic Liberal ideals. We don't really use the services like we needed to when I was a kid. I think that Canadians are lost in 'the vision' that these lib leaders want to show us. What is their vision? Fixing healthcare? Nope. Stopping mass immigration? Nope. Ahhh yes.. it's one persons 'vision' of fluff. who knows. But I find it insulting that a person has the gull to sit on a thrown and feel he's entitled to a visoin of our country. Not HIS country, our country. Together. I don't want a vision, I want someone who will govern the people and provide the climate for the best economy and health care possible.

Dion and the immigrant vote
mikedavid00 replied to mikedavid00's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
How is that "factual"? Where is your evidence? And define "immigrant" please. Is that only colored people, or would immigrants from the UK count, for example. And how long do they need to be here before they wouldn't fit into your qualifier? Do the reasearch. The majority of seats they got this time around were from the big cities where those ridings had +30% visible 'minorities'. You should know this as someone who follows politics. The only exception is some quebec seats and maybe Stranichs. The Lib party is an immigration party in disguise. People still have the wool over their eyes on this matter but the numbers back it up. The public needs to realize that there is a waiting list of 800,000 people mostly from the third world (Pakistan being the third most) that are waiting to come here. This is the prime issue that is facing our nation right now but I've given up on this because people 1 - don't beleive it, 2 deny it, 3 - can't beleive this could be happening. But it is happening.. and it's all happening to keep a stupid political party in power.
