Um, isn't the onus of proof on the person MAKING a claim? No it's not actually. This has been extensivelly discussed on the newsgroups and other forums. The onus is on the recipient to prove it otherwise.

I already posted numbers to prove this otherwise. You selectively ignore factual, and valid numbers of employment figures in Alberta. Instead, the emotional, Liberal, right side of your brain kicks in: 'My experiences with immigrants have been great!'. I find it extrememly hard to beleive you do business with immigrants considering a large portion of them can not read or write at a business level (factual).

This isn't a problem in the US becuase the small amount of people they do let in each year (per capita compared to Canada), are only there to work and then get kicked out when their permits expire. What I'm trying to say is that the US does not let 'low quality' peoople into their country as we do here in Canada. Not only this, we let them live here indefinately and let them sponsor in their relatives who have no means of supporting themselves. I really, really wish people would read up on our immigration policy and compare it to those of other countries before speaking on these subjects. They would be very suprised. I should also mention that most countries - not some contries - but MOST countries barely even have an immigartion policy. Many do not even issue citizenships. There's logical reasons for this. Canada *only* does well because we are neighbours to the US. We are held back and poorer from immigration. Immigation in Canada is like a world charity that we all pay for. If we didn't have to, I assure everyone we would have a better quality of life than the Americans, live in larger homes, and have better medicare.

Yes. Lets let Harper appologize for something that Canada did in 1914. It's obvious that these ethnic communities are just using this incident as a political football. The problem with Canada is it recognizes visible minorities to begin with. How will we ever live together peacefully if we give special groups that are based off their skin colour and culture. Bingo. The wages that are really getting depressed are the white collar wages in the private sector. There's also the effect of devaluation of education. It's a myth that 'Canadians' do not lose jobs to immigrants. They lose jobs to immigrants each day. A family friend of my fiance has now moved to Alberta. He has been in Canada just for school and is now working and persuing a wife in Canada to secure his citizenship. However, one in Canada quickly forgets the Canadian who was screened out of the University program becuase his GPA wasn't high enough to get in. Instead, we have a fogiegn national. From India. Who could barely speak english. Who sat infront of me eating with his bare hands digging his fingers in his rice and curry shovelling the food in his mouth with his bare hands. Chewing with his mouth open... Yup. He's the one living the dream. The local in ALberta who tried to enter into comp sci after high school? meh.. who cares about him. We need to focus on the dream of the foreign national who consideres himself an Indian and who will soon be working on sponsoring in his elderly parents for us tax payers to look after. I voted to completely shut down the borders. We don't have the jobs and servies to provide the people comming to Canada. Ontario alone just lost 15,000 full time manufacturing jobs. We get that many immigrants each month. The flood of people isn't needed. They are only here to elect the Liberal party of Canada and nothing more.

What do you consider 'wealthy'? I don't feel a life in Ireland as compared to Canada to be more wealthy than here. Here's what $300,000 CAN gets you in Ireland. Notice the cars outside. I don't consider that a wealthy living personally. It's like people calling Dubai wealthy.. You can't base everything off GDP per capita. That is far too simplistic of looking at things. Wealth of a country is the quality of life and material items that one can afford. The USA is still tops by a longshot.

The very same people working the same jobs can afford a step up. The average living space in American homes is larger than the average in Canada. The starting pay for a grad in the US is much higher than in Canada. In Canada, grads aren't even getting jobs at all. This is not the same in the US. You don't grasp onto these simple concepts. Immigration IMO is the #1 thing that causes all these problems over time. We have a surplus of people, and cannot provide jobs or services for these people. This is suicide. It ruins everything from our healthcare system to our political system. My vote is no longer represented because I live in an islamic immigrant area. The vote is 'un natural'. It's not based off the good of the country, it's based off immigration. Those are facts. Why should I even vote next election? The polical will of Canadians in my riding has been overthrown by foreign nationals who do not consider themselves Canadian (fact). When you vote as a visible minority who is an immigrant, sponsorship and immigration is your #1 concern (fact), you are not voting on Canadian issues like taxes and the economy. You are voting on an issue that really has nothing to do with Canada and self-serves your own international/family agenda. Then the Ontario gov't gives away $30,000,000 of our hard earned money to these immigrant groups and organaziations here in Toronto (many of which have ties to the Libearl party) to basically buy votes. This is repusilve and should not be happening in a first world country. Yes. That is only for a certain amount of time and then they can do as they please. If they have kids they can also collect benefits. Don't kid yourself for a second. Also, people HAVE been going on welfare and the Ontario gov't some years back tried to go after families who's relatatives went on welfare. If your sponsors kick you out of the house, you are allowed to go on welfare. There's a whole slew of services you are allowed to use that we do not have the money to pay for like public schools, childcare, child benefits, healthcare of course, and the list goes on and on and on and on. Name me another country that allows any old and ailing person to be sponsored into the country. A person who simply has no intent of working because they are too old. UK? Australia? Idealism. Again, you don't back your claims with facts or numbers. That's your main problem. You only care about your personal feelings on a subject rather then focusing on a solution or what's good for the country. That's the problem with many that are in univeristy; they think becuase they have a degree their feelings on a certain matter hold more merit than anothers. They don't have to prove anything becuase the degree should be proof that they're 'right'. Look, as I'm sober and writing this, I can say that no one is against immigrants or immigration. We welcome people to work jobs that we cannot fill. We welcome employers to sponsor in people on work permits once they can prove that they could not hire a Canadian. People can then come and pay taxes and join our society. Yes, there would only be mayb 20,000 people a year, but it would be beneficial to Canada and everyone here. We'd have a functioning healthcare system and welfare state for people who need it. People who are entitled to it. We certainly do not want to cause a threat to our security or strain our welfare/healthcare state. What you forgot is that these programs are there for us, not foriegn nationals who do not even reside in Canada and are not even citizens (50,000 in Lebanon as an example). Canada's immigration system is simply broken and out of control. Ok I grew up in Ottawa my whole life. I know a bit about it. The fact is anyone who has money and happy life in Ottawa works for the gov't. Fat and happy. Most of these people are *NOT* from Ottawa who can speak French. If you are an Anglo in ottawa you are worth nothing. You have 1 college and 2 universities in Ottawa. With over half of the student from 'somewhere else' like Montreal or Toronto and abroad. These grad's might get a gov't job, most go back home. Ottawa has no natural economy, 30% of all immigrants are refugee's, and I litterally had to move to the GTA because Ottawa simply had nothing. The stats are garbage. The best place to live is the place where the common person has money and dream. That is not Ottawa I can say that first hand.
