  1. It has to be this way. Yes, they know. You can trust them. You have to.
  2. Don't want to dwell on it, but look, is a coincidence that not a single province in the country has proportional representation, the de-facto standard of democratic governance for about a century? Can it be only a coincidence? What if every time its attempted someone would step out from the shades, sure you want to do that, think of all the extremists and here's some nice federal grant just in case? But in some ways you're right of course; paternalistic government is a two-way street if citizens have become the pueblo, want and expect it. At some point it's hard or maybe impossible to separate the cause from the outcome, chicken from the egg. Look at Mexico and zillion other places.
  3. Not into conspiracy theories, but it's difficult to imagine that thought and intent didn't go into construction and perpetuation of this, status quo model. How is Canada sold to the citizens and the world? A country of immigrants. As an immigrant, what would one do in 90, 99% of cases, for the first two generations? Trying to settle in and establish themselves. Bingo. Whatever you do as long as I can work and there's food on the table. The third generation already deeply rooted into the system. Maybe there's a manual on that program written by its founding fathers. Or its passed from head to head. Small practical difference. No prophesies, but any genuine program of change would have to gather at least matching momentum of thought and will: how the country could and can work in this century? What real, genuine and necessary changes are needed? Sleepwalking, great sleep talks swapping bobble heads won't do much to change the reality.
  4. Canada is not a democracy. The tradition of colonial administration smoothly merged into the experiment of a benevolent technocratic bureaucracy that runs the country with a thin political facade. It used to have principles and standards, but with no real, independent oversight and accountability its in the past now: these days it's just running itself. If bureaucracy likes the project of the political shell, it will attempt to deliver it on the best level it's capable of: mediocrity. And if it doesn't like it, it will drag, delay and undermine it until either it fails outright, or the political faceplate, label changes. One or the other, same result. This pattern cannot change because there isn't any real independent, outside power in the system: it was designed from day one to keep it away and never allow in. Neither genuine, independent representation of the citizens; nor an idea strongly supported by them, via proportional representation. The bureaucracy runs the country; mediocrity or failure are the only results it can deliver. And there are no realistic ways out of this conundrum. Congrats Canada. Sleeping through critical choices and decisions does that.
  5. The only cause for a public government to exist is the services it provides to the citizens. The standard and level of services is before our eyes and no bullsh*t chatting can change that: nope. Just change the faceplate (to ours) and it all will run like a charm? No real representation, no working checks controls and accountability, justice going on various trips but why? It'll just work somehow, just so. The dumbest fairy tale ever. Wow.
  6. Yeah, why shouldn't we double the number? And raise the benefits at the same time? That would surely make the government of public matters (look around, carefully), right? No, seriously why couldn't we? What's there to stop us?
  7. The sum of any number of zeros is a zero. A senior KG student knows as much.
  8. There's no reason other than the show must go on. The number of useless, powerless employee-"representatives" figureheads only in the pretty beaver tale coloring book has no effect on the quality of the decision that deteriorates in real time. Obviously.
  9. Insane bureaucrats will require a new "statement" each time the political wind direction changes only to keep their bureaucratic a$$es safe and comfy. Ten statements? 25, who cares we're paid by the hour! Sanity is just trickling out of the country. Will it become a desert, somewhere (not far now) down this path?
  10. Wth is that? "and a statement identifying strengths and experiences related to equity, diversity, and inclusion in their current and previous institutional environments." How can a sane individual understand that? F-k, this was supposed to be about "science", for holy sanity's sake!
  11. So quantum is a race-induced theory now, OK. Waiting for new amazing breakthroughs down this path of glory.. one can guess where it ends. By the way, in the sane world, there's a difference between: "Between equally qualified candidates, the preference will be given to..." and "Just cannot apply". Period. Why bother about such things as sanity though? The future is assured and guaranteed!
  12. The chief idea above: all is great as it is; only need to swap the face plate and all will change on the spot. Miraculously. It will, right? Just believe.
  13. A government that is out of (all) controls and bounds will not stop: anywhere; or ever. Why? They have to do something. They need to feel useful, to justify (to themselves: no other checks) their exorbitant benefits. So, they'll go ahead and keep doing more of it, then still more. For your own good, of course. Like, what's there to stop them?
  14. So satisfaction is the key; the reason, rationality, the result don't matter anymore. There you get it: the result of the country's political evolution under the incentive "nothing matters and no accountability hurray": it doesn't matter which head jumps into the chair. They are all (two of them) only about gobbling as much as can be squeezed (and then, some more) and talking wisely about nothing. Why would it be any different? Think of it: if you were in their place, the chair? Would you have conceived and designed it any different? You can prove me wrong, easily. Let the legendary "PP" roll back MP salaries for being useless hand-run figureheads. Let employee-representatives"" unanimously or almost, vote for it. There you go. The reality check.
  15. Working as (much as) we like while being paid by the public as though it's for real is of course another piece of nonsensical communism that will accelerate the degradation, and eventual demise of public services in the country. Let's not forget: it is there to produce the output for the public. There aren't any other causes for its existence. Feeding itself is not a valid cause for a public service! So make it a choice: a) you choose to work in the traditional model then you're on site as much and long as it needs to verify your output. That's it. You chose it and its in the contract. b) your pay, including benefits, vacations, sick etc is based on the unit of delivered and verified output for the public. Of course then you can work as much as and however you want, subject to minimal necessary coordination. Makes sense? If one works online, being paid for real product delivered to satisfied customers, there aren't any issues with remote working. Just be clear about the incentive. Don't reduce it to funny communism, "work as we like, paid as we want". It never worked, cannot work and won't work.
  16. Right. Have to be those measuring the level of relaxation and satisfaction. The output doesn't matter anymore, so why bother.
  17. To create an illusion of representation that is factually non existent because the employee-representatives"" are only figureheads run by hand from the Central Commitee office.
  18. Studies have shown that PS has been more productive in Canada, in the last three years? That waiting times dropped? Services became more efficient and higher quality, for the citizens? Where? In which alternative universe? What's the number to call?
  19. Public service that works from home in-between the important stuff. Doctors, police etc love to follow the suit (same pay). Is that the hill the country's public domain is going to die on?
  20. There's a line here that is already close: the moment justice becomes political and partisan, it's no justice already, by definition. Two branches are already almost hopelessly divided. So dangerously close. A stern reminder to us: nothing, no great idea or contraption will last forever, unless we take thought and care to see over it, clean it, fix and improve it. The entropy cannot be beat. How do we not know it yet and need to discover it over and again until our time runs out? Astounding.
  21. So now we know it: the crazies can be stopped. It doesn't even take much: only some courage and will. This is the way to do it. Fight them every way and all the way. Don't give them anything for free. That should do it.
  22. Question: what public function is not broken in Canada? Why could it be any other way, with no transparency; accountability and independent checks?
  23. Just read again and think: a partisan Actor (name the role as you like) can make rules for you; control what you can say and decide is it allowed or not. He can kick you out with a single strike of a pen and there's no oversight or impartial controls over his decisions. In a presumably (wink-wink) "Parliament". Only a good manager running (so called) "representatives". Herding them for better productivity. Reminds of something, already? Question: is this a comedy, a kind of parody, or what? Like, how else could one interpret these events?
  24. This is bullshit. Let's not repeat obvious bullshit. If the ones who were supposed to oversee "the rules" have no independent ground nor even a pretense of impartiality but on the other hand: have both hands firmly and squarely in the honeypot, one couldn't pretend to believe that it's all about some "Parliament" and the "rules". This would be just plain and sad, bullshit. The reality speaks, no words needed.
