FPTP is extreme danger in uncertain and volatile times
myata replied to myata's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It may be some ridiculous fun but nothing even close to the reality. The numbers you calculated are based on people knowing firmly and certainly that only one of the two default corporations (these are NOT democratic parliamentary parties, very obviously) can rule. You cannot have a rigged stage and pretend to have an honest show. Doesn't work this way. Decide the winner by the number of votes they get, all votes. Open it to all parties. And in two or three elections you will know the real numbers: who's worth what in a real democratic election, not some pathetic imitation show. Those monsters may not even be on the list because they are only held together by the urge to rule, there's no other reason for them to stay together. -

They have at least 50% + 1 votes an L in a choice free from strong influence: a big, fat L where every vote was counted and contributed to the result: an L Whoa! A triple L in one short paragraph. Could you beat it? Know anyone? -

See they think that they can stare you down, or if need be, shout you down, from figuring out trivial, Grade 2 plus or minus, facts. That makes some in the picture, crooks (political ones, at least) and the others, sleepy and complacent dumbos, the pueblo. Think you can figure it from here, not calculus. -

And who's being perplexed here, I wonder? And what's the confusion? An election (no quotes, winks, whistles etc) means: - a free choice among all presented candidates - the result based on the number of votes given freely to each one. You knew that, right? Can you show it? So what's the expression about? -

Not that a two-year old would have an idea what the word means (not a baby "look mommy I can dance" show). -

One thing one can do always though, is this: not participating in the obvious nonsense. OK, maybe you cannot change it, maybe it cannot be changed; but it doesn't mean that you have to accept it, and participate in it. No. Just stand away. Let it roll its way as far as it wants to but you can have, and keep your own. Accepting nonsense or insanity is like losing a part of your sanity and self. If the choice is rigged, if the outcome is predetermined from the outset, this isn't a fair game. You don't have to play. -

And the public here can do nothing, transparency or not. There are no mechanisms, absolutely and whatsoever, to keep in check fake "majority" governments whatever they do. This is a stupid jammed record that plays itself over and over, forever: no matter what you do you can't change anything so what's the point of even thinking of a change? Congrats. The dinosaurs tried that. They'd have much to say about the benefits of systems that were created perfect from day one and so needn't any change, ever. -

Now you can see who has no answers. What can be added here? -

The whole culture of democratic politics is entirely different where one has to win the majority of votes, every single one counts, in an open contest with all other parties. It's lightyears away, another dimension, nothing even close to waiting up till the populace grows sick of your twin bud, and having no other choice pushes the finger for you and you call it a "landslide majority", dance sing and parade to celebrate non-existent and unearned "achievement". Dressing up, the pomp, the media circus change nothing in the essence. It's only an imitation, a poor and pathetic facade show in place of a real functional democracy. -

There are exactly three first tier (or ostensibly) democracies that still use FPTP. Two of them are distinct, historical exceptions. Learn the skill of looking at an entity and seeing something entirely different, the opposite. Unleash your imagination. See the groundhog as a nightingale. "Just about any other system makes it worse unfortunately" -
Every authoritarian-leaning government, unaccountable and out of control eventually loses the connection to the reality. Why bother? What's in it, boring old reality to it? This will happen more and more often and eventually, become a common staple everywhere and all matter of the public administration. The simple and unstoppable logic of the bureaucracy. What, already there?

FPTP is extreme danger in uncertain and volatile times
myata replied to myata's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Just wondering how is it funny, that with a popular vote around 40% one gets a) a "majority" and b) a "landslide" and quite possibly c) total, unlimited by anything control of the government? Imagine you called a groundhog "a gull"? Would it flap its legs to fly, what do you think? Does this parody have anything to do with a modern democratic government that earned its legitimacy with the majority of voters in a fair and open election, not some funny counting gimmick? The only, one notch that separates it from open authoritarianism is that it can, in theory (media control, manipulation, bribing the populace with their own money etc) replace a totally screwed government with a different, thought hardly more competent one. This is not enough in this age and century.. not even close. So, there's an easy answer here: brainless-ness; a grave deterioration of the function if not the organ that was supposed to do the processing of the reality; or incurable complacency. Do you have a better one? -

Sadly, it may have given in to the long, encapsulated and encoded in generations of uneventful coasting tradition of complacency. The first serious shake up will bring it right to the fore, while we long forgot how to understand and solve serious problems. And look at the bunch lining up before us in this century. It's gonna be fun. -

Now look who's blind or deaf or just dumb. "Can't" doesn't read "won't". Kids in the Grade like 3 would have gotten it in no time. You are a kiddo buddy or just retarded? (only factually objective and without a tiniest hint of offense). No one is obligated to quote a half of this board here just to satisfy your I haven't even a clue what, laziness, stdty? -
Wait till they fall by themselves? And what if they won't and you've grown tired and weakened of waiting? And the folks around, seeing your weakness and inability to stand up, would begin to make arrangements to have at least some security? Who told you that the Time has to be on your side and will obey your plans and desires? Did it promise anything like that or you're just being blind and foolish? One doesn't need to be super smart to know that past achievements guarantee nothing in the future. That every contest is a new one to win, or lose. That pompous words won't count for much in a contest of wills and powers. What you have, you bring to the contest and show it. The only answer will be, is it sufficient or not enough. The Time will not be fooled by any words.

There's more to it too. It did not and maybe cannot? this is not a given now we will have to see it; respond effectively to Stalins of today. So what was the point of the exercise then, from the perspective of the evolution?
-
Yes. First you remember the accident, think and try hard to avoid it. Then, you may come to think that you've done enough and can relax a bit. Then, you've grown lazy, complacent and have assured yourself that nothing can happen no matter what you do, don't or wouldn't. You begin to ignore visible signs, and warning bells that ring ever louder. And then, it happens again. And all over, again and again like it never happened before. There has to be fun in it, no?

I'll preserve the instances of hostage politicking at this critical point in the history of the world, in case someone would read it and wonder. Not what we were thinking, hardly, but could do it, think, still. - the Republican party of USA: hinging assistance to democracies fighting to defend the world order on some internal matters, possibly valid but with no logical connection. Hostage politicking as clear as it gets. - Victor Orban, Hungary: attempting to divide Europe, attempting to extract financial assistance by blocking critical decisions. - Turkey, a member of NATO: delays, together with Hungary, the ascension of Sweden. Once again, this is NATO at the time of a high uncertainty and a critical challenge. What is it (not thinking) showing to the world? Others were seemingly inspired by these precedents. This is a developing crisis in the mentality, the psyche of the West. While the new Axis of tyrants is growing stronger and more bold.
-
Only in deliberate blindness, self-indulgence and a paralysis of thought and will. The rise of aggressive totalitarianism is way more than just Putin: it will define the next phase of our civilization. Do you fail to notice the new Axis of dictators forming: Russia, Iran, Syria, North Korea with China possibly in the vague background? It's a fact already, they support each other, help to stand together. What if they stand and grow? Which way would the future go to? Can the two, a coalition of brutal aggressive tyrants and democracy survive in it in a harmony? The answer is obvious: every weakness and indecision by the West shown to the world today is a step toward its isolation, and demise some way on. We cannot count on the future being granted and laid out for us. We have to earn it. Our ancestors knew but the forgot.

FPTP is extreme danger in uncertain and volatile times

A silly and pointless pillow fight of entitled political monopolies once so many years for a democratic facade. The better of the worst, always, as the best democratic model, foreva. Same ones, always, a vertigo of meaningless faces on the same permanent foundation: "we do what we like and you can do nothing. Just watch us". Yaaaaawn, to the teeth. Keep snoring. Surprise-free awakening is never guaranteed. -

It's been explained on numerous occasions and I'm not going to waste my time again why would anyone? Can't argue with a picture book. Playing dumb is not an argument either. In Africa they have those same services, perhaps on a comparable level of quality and efficiency. Does it make it a modern G7 democracy? Healthcare is in a permanent crisis as half of the departments. Is this state compatible with being a top-tier modern democracy? Can't argue with a picture book. No interest either. And no apologies. -

This is a wrong question, and you didn't even notice! Which is explainable of course from the perspective of a quasi-democratic governor who is accountable for nothing and can get and do anything, or very close. If Africa they get those same "services". Maybe without the GST on a tax "service" though. So what did you try to prove? -

Ignorance is not a virtue; nor is it a valid argument And you're blind or dumb patently to not notice how much real difference the tricks and whistles made in the real world. Can't have a meaningful discussion with a picture book.
