I agree (I guess that's similar to what I was getting at asking how many crimes were committed by long guns). As I said before, I'd support a ban (or registry) on handguns....but long guns? I'd need to see some statistics on how many crimes are committed by long guns, whether those guns would be registered (and I agree that criminals aren't going to reister their gun), and how many long guns are stolen (and therefore likely to be used in a crime). Somehow I don't think it would change my mind. I could see some good coming from this registry, if it were free or nearly free. But a billion dollars? I think that money could be better spent.

How many Americans support the war in Iraq? How many would support war with Iran? Also, do you have a link/reference for this story about the 60,000 football fans?
-
Should gun owners be held responsible if their gun is stolen and used in a crime?
-
My sentiments exactly...just like those right-wingers who think that Muslims should be judged by the action of a few extremists...
-
How many crimes are committed with long guns anyways? I can understand a handgun registry (actually, I could understand a complete ban on handguns) but I'm not so sure about a long gun registry that costs a billion or so.

Do you think mandatory minimum sentences will do anything for crime? Or are they a waste of money too?

So, you don't think cutting emissions is important to the Conservatives?

How is it pro-Liberal to suggest that Dion (as well as Harper) says what it takes to get elected? Can you honestly say with a straight face that Harper has conviction and will not say what it takes to get elected?

While we're on the topic of cartoons... Link

You didn't answer my original question... But I'll address your post nonetheless: I think all politicians say whatever it takes to get them elected. I don't think the environment would be a priority for either the Liberals or Conservatives if it wasn't a political issue (which it has become recently). If you think Harper is any different than Dion or any other politican, you are fooling yourself.
-
You don't think the environment has become a big priority for the Conservatives all of a sudden? It wasn't as big of a political issue during the last campaign, but now that it has become a huge issue, it has become a priority for the Conservatives all of a sudden. How's that for conviction?

"What is the meaning of life?" Better yet, what is the meaning of God? "Why does mathematics work, anyway?" Why shouldn't it? "If the universe had a beginning, who created it?" Better yet, who/what created God? "Why are the physical constants in the universe so finely tuned to allow the possibility of complex life forms?" Because if they weren't, we wouldn't know about it, since we wouldn't be here. This article on the Anthropic Principle can probably explain it better than I could (although I haven't read the entire thing so don't quote me on that) "Why do humans have a moral sense?" Evolution "What happens after we die?" We decompose

What took him so long? He would actually have to be committed to the environment to have acted before it was politically advantageous to do so. Do you really think Dion has ever acted out of conviction? How long ago did Harper ensure that his energy consumption is minimized?

WTC7 Demolition on mainstream news site
gc1765 replied to wendy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Actually, I'm a science student, not an engineering student. But I do know a lot about how science & engineering research is funded in Canada. I'm probably not the most qualified person to answer questions about engineering, but I do have a pretty good understanding of basic physics and I'll do my best to answer any questions. Right. They just need the grant money. They can apply for that from Rockefeller (and others) - same guy that puts presidents in power and benefits from all the wars. Bankers decide who gets the grant money from foundations. Thats why people that graduate with economics and business degrees have no idea how money is created or where it actually comes from. I don't think you have any idea how science and engineering research is funded. Bankers do not decide who gets grant money, nor does Rockefeller. Scientists and engineers decide between themselves who gets funding. There is no conspiracy in how funding is allotted, I can say with absolute certainty that this is how it is done. -
WTC7 Demolition on mainstream news site

This would never happen. Any university who structural engineers seriously challenged the NIST report would find itself short of funding. Any working structural engineer that challenged 911 would be out of a job just like Jones & Ryan. A University has no control over what a (tenured) professor researches. -

I wonder if the al queda recruiting office is keeping up with the al queda body count? Unfortunately, it would appear that for every Iraqi killed, al qaeda gets several more recruits.
-
al-qaeda wasn't even nice enough to offer Bush a greeting card thanking him for providing them with many more recruits?

Vancouver. As I said before, I could be wrong, but I've never heard of any companies other than Telus offering landlines. If there are, they need to do more advertising
-
Is it really that unbelievable to think that if you found a box in your own office that it might belong to you or someone you work with? Wouldn't that be hilarious if Holland called up the delivery company, trying to figure out what to do with the boxes, only to find out that the boxes belonged to a fellow Liberal MP, or staffer? I'm sure the Liberal-haters out there would jump all over that to try to show how Holland is incompetent.

"Hollywood got a taste of new Canadian TV hit Little Mosque on the Prairie Wednesday night, amid potential deals to bring the Muslim-themed sitcom to U.S. audiences." "U.S. network representatives as well as television executives worldwide have also expressed interest in Little Mosque." Link

Tories To Announce Wait-Times Promise
gc1765 replied to jdobbin's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Interesting how you are attacking the details of the plan. Specifically the wait times for radiation treatment in Manitoba. But, the first article you link to has this in BOLD. So you attack the details of the plan by using an article that clearly states the details haven't been worked out yet. Link -
As far as I know, Telus is the only company around here with the old-fashioned landlines (but I could be wrong on that). With new technology, like digital or cell phones, there is more competition. I prefer a cell phone because it is the cheapest option.
-
How often do phone companies actually compete? Around here, if you are looking for a landline, your choices are Telus, Telus or Telus. Cell phones are a different story, and are the closest thing to competition. In fact, thanks to my cell phone I don't need a landline.

Looks like Borys did his best to bring attention to this: "Mr. Wrzesnewskyj demanded reports used by the Auditor-General be brought forward last December" "After hearing from a number of witnesses previewing the allegations in mid-February, he put forward a motion to grant the whistle-blowers parliamentary immunity to testify." "Finally, after submitting stacks of damning documents, including e-mails showing nine RCMP brass trying to hide their golf fees on hotel bills during a pension fund meeting, Mr. Wrzesnewskyj felt he had enough evidence to secure unanimous support to call in the whistleblowers" "The second-term Etobicoke MP is credited by RCMP whiste-blowers for doggedly pursuing the file and leading the charge to secure their hearing." Why would he go to the media right away? He might as well keep trying, which he did. If, after doing everything possible, he still failed, then would be the time to go to the media. Not sure about the other members of the committee, and how they voted...but I don't see how you can blame Borys for this.
