Who really isn't "paying their fair share"?
blueblood replied to CPCFTW's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That was a political decision. The need was from the voters to do something, do it fast, and as least painful as possible. Had it been up to market forces, the people of the usa would have been "free to fail" and it would have hurt for quite a while. Now they just taken on more debt and kicked the can down the road. Voters can't handle pain, that's why govt gets bigger all the time. The free market is self regulating. Look at all those crooks who ended up getting caught with their pyramid schemes. When the tide goes out, that's when crooks get found out. It is definetly self regulating, just not the way you like it. All govt is supposed to do is provide a secure environment for the market to operate in, at election time voters decide what kind of environment that is. -
Who really isn't "paying their fair share"?
blueblood replied to CPCFTW's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The market is always right. It is the fairest system out there. The only reason leftists complain about the free market is because it doesn't always work how they want it to. In the free market its free to succeed and free to fail. The free market can be both kind and cruel. Those who do well in the free market know this and work to make sure that the cruel part of it is minimized. Leftists tend to not understand both sides of the market and as a result their countries tend to fail. Perhaps if more canadians were educated in how the free market works in high school, we would be more equipped to compete with other countries. Maybe boting cars together isn't that valuable to society in the first place. -
So let me get this straight. Martin slashes taxes and he's a hero. Harper essentially does the same thing and caused the recession. Harper was pm in 0607, his minister of finance passed a budget, which happened to be a surplus, yet martin who had no part in writing it gets credit? But all of a sudden in 2008 because the economy takes a small hit, its all of a sudden harper's fault? I suppose in your eyes martin gets credit for canada coming out of the recession better than any country in the g8. Ill let the lefists of the world blame bush, he's their whipping boy of all the world's ills. Even though democrats made policy of having everyone having to own a house regardless of income. North america is still the best place on the planet and free market economics are the reason why, hell why is asia copying our way of doing things? The numbers don't lie, free market societies are far better than controlled societies.

A conservative vs. a socialist (NDP) government
blueblood replied to 1967100's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Except for the mulroney and diefenbaker administrations or are they imaginations. The cpc was a merger of the reform/canadian alliance and the progressive conservatives. Cripes peter mckay is harper's head stooge. Who's up on canadian history now. Ladies and gentlemen we have the anti-mr.canada here. -
NDP to Remove Ruth-Ellen Brosseau From Office?
blueblood replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I guess the ndp can't go after the tories about muzzling mps/candidates. Harper should be collecting copyright fees! According to august1991 we might not see her for some time if at all. -
Yet you get to cherrypick that harpers policy was the cause of the "recession" in canada, while you give ontario a free pass saying the "recession" was to blame for ontario's financial state. Oh and guess who's joining the corporate tax cut bandwagon, that would be ontario. Never mind that harper ran surpluses in 2006 and 2007 while cutting taxes and is projected to slay the deficit in 20142015. Not only that canada has had a steadily falling unemployment and gdp growth through the recovery. Seems like low taxes are working to me. Now we bring up the usa. Clinton had a republican house when the budget was balanced, and the impending threat of the bond vigilantes threatening to cash in. Clintons main man james carville wants to be reincarnated as the bond market for goodness sakes! Then there's blaming bush and the banks for the recession. Jimmy carter and clinton have blood on there hands with that one along with every person stupid enough to buy a house when they couldn't afford it. Seems to me govt intervention causes more problems than most want to believe.

What do you know about fiscal management? Are you in business? Let's look at the numbers over the last decade. 2 administrations with the same business plan - drop taxes. Martin and harper have dropped corporate and other taxes during the last decade. At the same time unemployment dropped and gdp rose. Not only that we decoupled ourselves from the usa economy and diversified into asia. What's more intersting is that the area in canada with the worst finances picked another left leaning party to represent them in parliament. Quebec has some of the most ridiculous regulations and highest taxes in the country. Coincidence that their debt is at dangerous and unsustainable levels. Seems to me that cutting taxes has worked very well for canada as a whole.

NDP to Remove Ruth-Ellen Brosseau From Office?
blueblood replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Why would the tories care? They have their majority and having an inexperienced mp like this to run against in quebec would be to their advantage. Why would they risk the libs or bloc putting in a stronger candidate? -
2014 Healthcare Apocalypse
blueblood replied to nittanylionstorm07's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You are forgetting to add that when these drugs come off patent, the costs to consumer drop like a rock, which is good for the consumer and bad for the r and d department and meeting obligations to investors. If any of the centre left has been watching bnn as of late, pharma companies aren't doing well because of this. Also to note that at the start of the r&d process, most drugs don't make it onto the store shelves. A lot simply don't pan out. And those that do, some of them aren't hits with consumers either. Its an expensive process and drugs are priced accordingly. -
What you have a hard time dealing with reality and how the world works. Thank goodness canadians in 166 ridings do. To quote uncle kevin "I hate being right all the time, its such a burden!"

2014 Healthcare Apocalypse
blueblood replied to nittanylionstorm07's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Do you know how much money it takes to open a practice/hospital? There will be some private setups which is fine, but the public system will still be there. If that was true how come public and private schools xo-exist and teachers are flocking to both? Teachers in both systems all have their 2 degrees, are kids in public school struggling in society? I don't think so. However, those who pay will get the best their money can buy. My point is, the public system won't be in the stone age. The problem isn't the method of delivery, its a bottleneck at the university/immigrant credential level. That needs to be loosened up. When I see that, I smell unions and their bs. -

How? The defendant gets a legal person defending him in court, and those public defenders have the same law degree as the other guys. Its not like a defendant has to defend himself -
If only party leaders/prime minister were picked like that, think of the money that would save

2014 Healthcare Apocalypse
blueblood replied to nittanylionstorm07's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Stuff costs. I remember getting my wisdom teeth pulled, it cost 500 bucks. Money was tight at that time and I was saving up for a new tv. Well I had to give up the tv because I didn't want a mouth full of pain. Wealthy or more well off people are not going to stand in line for healthcare for themselves or loved ones. Instead of sending them to the states, why not set some up here and use the tax revenue generated to help out the public system. Might help with the doctor/nurses going to the states. Our healthcare system is like forcing millionaires to go to a soup kitchen (yes I know we have advanced healthcare, I'm talking about costs) and a poor person who needs that soup kitchen is going to have to wait his turn. I don't understand why it can work in the education system and not for healthcare. -

I think jdobbin's prophecy in 2008 has come to pass. If you have time take a gander at the archives around fall of 2008, he was mentioning something like this happening.

All in all its been a good night for the tories and ndp. I think both parties won and won big. The only thing that could spoil tonight is a gem from mr. Canada and I think that's another thing tory and ndp supporters can agree on.
