  1. Your right at first, I made the error of saying spend instead of accrue debt, which I clarified when I posted the link. Oops!! However one guy racking up as much debt as 43 others isn't good. Politifact gave the statement the mostly true judgement based on obama"s term not done yet and on the goalposts. Given the info availible, romney isn't lying when he's making that claim.
  2. Don't shoot the messenger. Politifacts title "mitt romney says barack obama will add more debt than 43 prior presidents". They rated his claim mostly true, which I said. Then they showed their calculations under 3 scenarios which showed true for 2 of 3. Its true enough for romney to use on his campaign. What's even funnier was that the romney campaign used the claim from politifact checking out another republican claim.
  3. It depends if the tories can get the word out on bipole III to south winnipeg when election time comes. It will be hard with the draconian regulations of election advertising at election time.
  4. My bad, its accrue more debt than all 43 presidents combined. However that's an accomplishment itself. From politifact http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2011/jul/10/mitt-romney/mitt-romney-says-barack-obama-will-add-more-debt-4/ Its mostly true because obama hasn't completed his term and there are goalposts to what consitutes a term in fiscal means. However 2 of 3 goalposts checked out. Seems like romney and the gop have some ammo at their disposal. I figured if I made a bold statement like that I'd be called on it.
  5. More than all 43 combined???
  6. Hmmm seems like obama will spend more than all 43 other presidents combined when his term is up. What's even funnier is that romney who stated this got a pass from politifact.
  7. Had to dvr the series because it was on during my silly season of work. I thought it was outstanding except for the excessive sex. King robert was the man with tyrion being a close 2nd. Liked ned and jon except that they're too nice. Snapped up the books on my ipad kindle app which means there is some considerable reading to do. My thanks to kimmy for her interesting posts regarding the series. My one question is if hbo does the whole series what's going to happen when they finish season five and the sixth book will probably not be written yet. To me that grinds my gears, quitting something halfway through.
  8. Oh please! The usa is the worlds largest ag exporter and worlds largest oil importer/consumer. They cannot grow 2.50 per bushel corn to give away to the worlds poor and get pillaged by the middle east for their oil. The subsidies are finished and according to morgan stanley ethanol production is generally profitable without them. The subsidy did its job getting the industry started. Why should the usa have a policy that devalues one of its main exports? The usa can either pay oil sheiks in the middle east or their own farmers. Then there is the sheer volume that gets used. How many more dollars would nymex crude be if ethanol wasn't used? The lefties were complaining about when they were giving food away which put 3rd world producers out of business, now they're complaining about them not being able to afford food, even though those producers get more for what they sell. Wow!!!
  9. Of course it will, there are ridiculous restrictions on election advertising here, and this wave of press releases is free advertising which benefits the incumbant. We will have to see how bipole III influences voters as does watching what's going on in boom town saskatchewan with its tory gov t. Struthers won by a hair last election vs the unknown, given his stupidity on ag issues, he is toast as are the ndp in rural manitoba.
  10. They also had a massive gst revenue stream which mulroney made the pc's fall on their sword for. It worked, but sent the pcs into oblivion. When kevin o'leary is advocating a gst in the usa, you know there is a debt crisis.
  11. Isn't there other more important subjects that should be mandatory say commerce and economics? The average north american is swimming in debt, but there is no mandatory education on finance??? There's only so much hours in a school day, shouldn't topics that people use in everyday life be mandatory? Give that society is more tolerant to homosexuality (good thing) than it was 20 yrs ago, is this class necessary?
  12. The problem with raising revenue is that it makes it real easy to ramp up spending once the bills are paid. That's the point the tea party makes and its valid. However in this case revenues have to increase because the hole is that big. However obama is going about it all wrong. Entitlement and military spending are a ball and chain on the us economy. Many ag producers went through this for many years in the 90s. The guys who buried themselves in debt went broke, and the guys who ran junk, spent smartly, and did odd jobs were fine. Obama is trying to play politics buy using the rich as a whipping boy. It'll get him votes but won't solve the problem. The entitlements have to be slashed and slashed big time, and the vat tax has to come in, might as well get it over with now. I don't see why he would have a problem with a vat tax, since rich people consume more they would be paying their "share" of taxes as well. To keep the family analogy going here, obama is not asking his wife or kids to get jobs or is not getting a second one, he is wanting to go to his boss and ask for a raise in spite of declining and flat sales for the company.
  13. We're already hearing his re-election campaign, "those oil execs and jet owners need to pay their 'fair share'". Normally I would disagree with obama about the need to increase revenues, but this is the mother of all deficits. However, he is looking for revenues in the wrong spot. He needs to look at what mulroney, paul martin, and preston manning did up here, the gst, massive spending cuts, and most importantly keeping them going in the long term. There is a price though, whoever votes for that will be punted from office/congress. Unfortunately, using rich people as a punching bag is proving popular with the public and is the only card the dems have in this situation. Even though those rich people spend money, invest, and provide jobs. What's even worse is that this will be the first of many negotiations, the boomers are going to have to realize that there isn't enough money to pay them for doing nothing in their long retirement with their many trips to the hospital. Obama reminds me of someone who has racked up the credit card and wants to go ask the boss for a raise when sales for the company are down, yet still wants to go on a family vacation. One day people will realize that you can't pay people to do nothing even though its cruel to those that can't help it.
  14. Isn't that buying low and selling high? That's what a bubble is. Its now more than ever important for farmers and producers to do research into the markets to see trends. Those that don't get burned, c'est la vie. But let's not forget the vorocious appetite for food that asia has just developed. South america did well with that as well as north america.
  15. Oh no providing liquidity in the futures market and investing in one of north americas largest exports is so evil people were starving when the europeans flooded the market with cheap subsidized food. At least there is now incentive for places like africa to ramp up food production.
  16. Maybe you should roll out west more often. There are billboards on the highway advertising jobs in the oilfield.
  17. Because a head shot with a rifle at close range isn't going to be pretty or recognizeable. Some reports were saying that a good portion of his skull was messed up. If he's as mangled as they are saying he is, then it would be easy to dismiss the photos as fake.
  18. Sporting man aren't we. The locals all go for the big boys and try blasting the things at a quarter to half a mile away.
  19. That's a small gun for a moose. I don't bother with hunting even though I am a rural canadian. There is too many rules and regulations and to break one means bye bye truck and bye bye gun.
  20. Canadian economy just created 58,000 jobs and unemployment fell to 7.6% vs americans 9%. Plus the deficit is on track to be slayed by 2015. Don't think anyone can find fault with harpers handling of the economy.
  21. Ha! Pat can hardly handle candace hoeppner let alone harper.
  22. The only reason intervention occured was because a large amt of voters were going to take a long bath. It is self sustaining, just not in the timeline those voters wanted. Now countries who did the bailouts have massive debt because they appeased those voters. How do you propose we get out of that debt, fire up the printing press? the us can just print 14 trillion dollars and balance their books right? Those "subsidies" your thinking about is the govt making a better environmrnt to operate in, as a result society is better for it. Thank goodness we have had a business friendly govt for a decade. As a result books will be balanced by 2015 and no money printed. Also coming out of a devestating recession on top of the western world. Its always been a market economy, govts are a part of it and have a part to play, not the creator. The cdn govt isn't giving money to those big corporations its taking less. But at the end of the day we know that countries that embrace the market economy are the richest, most prosperous, and healthiest in the world. Why anybody wants to copy the ussr, venezuela, and cuba is beyond me, those countries are failures.
  23. China is at the tech level the uk was in the industrial revolution. The chinese economy will flatline when the chinese people get to a western style standard of living and all those factories move elsewhere. Gdp and overall prosperity tends to skyrocket when a country moves from rural peasants to urban factory workers.
  24. Oh by the way china and vietnam have been copying north america in how to grow an economy. They're communist only in name. They aren't lefty anymore, just authoritarian. Its funny when china and vietnam opened their doors to foreign investment, their economies took off. There's a reason why china and vietnam didn't copy the soviet union and cuba; they don't want to fail! How do canadian companies legally steal money? This should be interresting...
  25. Who in 2004 ran for the progressive conservative party which was the election after the two parties merged? The wost politicians in canadian history would be the dion and ignatieff crew. How many of them are in parliament now?
