Organic Food not better for you
blueblood replied to Boges's topic in Health, Science and Technology
Many scientists also developed the resources to allow us to grow huge crops. I am, yields are rising yet bees are dropping, why? -
And most independent economists were wrong about the boom times of the early 2000s lasting forever and that housing was the safest investment a person could make,

It doesn't matter to me what one believes, IMO it's no ones business. My issue is when fools on both sides start throwing rocks at each other claiming each side is pushing it's agenda on the other and crying foul about it. That's the only bullshit I see. Im not on any side, All I'm doing is playing the devils advocate... Those religious people make up a large proportion of the country and have every right to be represented, they have as much right to use their clout as atheists with eir clout. I wouldn't say stock well day was stupid. Even though he believed the earth was 6000 years old, he was a high ranking cabinet official who did his job competently and no atheists were thrown in jail. -
It rises constantly, however it takes a wavy path, which is completely healthy and normal. Oil prices rise and fall repeatedly because if they didn't nobody would make any money. Govt intervention kicks the can down the road and sets up for a bigger blow when the next correction comes around, that's the problem. Had we kept with the method that worked spectacularly in the 1920-21 recession, we would be better off, unfortunately some academic fools couldn't handle that sometimes you need to drink your buckleys and we have what we have today.

Live out in the sticks with pesticide filled fields, no noticeable change in birds, bees, or other critters. -

Is there an effect on bees, most likely, is it the main cause of decline, no one knows. Does it matter to crop yields, no. It's a choose your poison, the bees or 6 billion people and your standard of living. -
Which begs the question, why does the govt have that kind of power in the first place?
-
In a correction the govt should stay out and let the malinvestments liquidate themselves and let recapitalization take place. Govt Intervention doesn't let that part of the business cycle take place. What you propose would be like the price of gas rising in perpetuity never falling, which is of course impossible.

A google search shows multitude of sites with that theory. Whether it's plausible or not I don't know, my point is that there are numerous theories for the decline in bee population. Diease also kills insects, so do funky weather patterns. Pesticides also enable 6 billion people to be fed along with keeping a lid on gas prices thus helping to maintain our standard of living. -

You and I know that the bible contradicts itself. I wouldnt consider the parables of Jesus and the 10 commandments a poor guide for moral character. Some of the other stuff however... -

So then what's the issue with somebody having faith? Does it matter if they believe in something you don't? It's not religion that's the issue, it's fools. I could argue that atheists have also run counter to a civil and just society with communist Russia and china during the great leap forward as examples. Those people in charge sure as heck weren't religious at all! -
Small c, the depression ended because the malinvestments of the 20s and fdr's new deal nonsense were liquidated. If the war was such a good thing and saved the USA economy, why didn't the economy go back to the doldrums of the 1930s when all those able bodied workers returned. If a war is such a good way to stimulate an economy, then why don't china, the USA, Russia, and Europe build massive, expensive warships to provide jobs, haul them to the pacific, evacuate the crews and fire expensive missiles at them until they're all sunk and the missiles used up.

No it's people who have an entitled attitude that screw this country up far worse than that. It's a big contributor to crime and to the massive debt in the western world because people believe they "deserve" everything.

Not saying there isn't, however it's not all bad, you can't say that suggesting it's a good idea to treat others with respect and to work hard is a bad thing? -
I look at the 1920-21 recession that started initially worse than the great depression. Guess what the USA govt did? Nothing. Does any talking head talk about that recession? No, why? It was over with quickly. That line of thinking won a Nobel prize in economics. The domestic economy is now loaded with debt, and it needs to be paid, which will result in a healthy slowdown. The average debt in the USA is being slashed which is a good thing because it is providing more sound capital for smarter economic activity.

Yet the oilsands, potash mines, farmers, mineral mines, finance, engineers, and trades continues to look high and low for applicants. Maybe a degree in sociology is not a good idea. Maybe living where there are no jobs is not a good idea. No it's jealousy and the entitlement kool aid leftists are feeding to those that are struggling is why we have resentment. It's funny because those fools don't learn that going after the wealthy hurts everyone. My point stands, anybody with a work ethic and smarts can become wealthy. Steve jobs and bill gates, and the founders of google sure didn't start out from their parents mansions. Maybe those university students aren't as smart as they think they are...

Yet crop yields are soaring, if crop yields were tied to bee populations, then yields would have crashed. They did not. I've heard of cell phone towers, funky weather, and insect disease also playing part to bee population decline. That's a question many are trying to solve. -
Not necessarily. Our debt would be squared away and we would come out in a stronger financial situation. Call it drinking buckleys. Tastes bad but it works. All we have right now is more debt. The lower interest rates promoted consumption at a time when people should be saving. The Americans right now are slashing their personal debt even though interest rates there are trying to get them to consume.

Yet with our pesticides we still have polination taking place and higher yields than ever. If pesticides were a problem for pollinators, they'd be gone already. Pesticides have been in use since the 70s and yet pesticides aren't having a detrimental effect to beneficial insects. Pesticides are a one time effect, and those with residual have effect for only a few days. The plants still get pollinated. Plants typically aren't sprayed at flowering with insecticide because the problem insects aren't active at that time. It quite simple pesticides or starvation. I'll go with pesticides, it's Been around forever and so have the pollinators. -

No it would not. Having debt levels similar to the Americans prior to 2008 is not a good place to be in. Spending money one doesn't have is not a good idea. The low interest rates are the markets way of kicking the can down the road. At least if the interest rates are screwed with by govt, the govt put regulations to prevent a hard landing. Had the rates not been touched, we wouldn't have to do all that. How is having 2 million dollar houses in Vancouver that cost 200,000 in eastern Canada a good thing. If you think Canadians swimming in debt is good for the economy, I suggest you take a look at our friends down south. It eventually comes back to haunt you. Had it not been for oil, ag, and energy exports, we would have been in the same house of cards as the USA.

I've read parts of it, basically the just of it is it's a philosophical text that shows how people should carry themselves and treat each other, which is all fine and good as those parts are logical, make sense, and I think any rational person regardless of their beliefs should think is a fair way of treating people. I.e. Not killing each other, treating others with respect, working hard, etc. The problem arises in what I call the fluff of it; which worked in ancient t times to explain the world around them and to provide incentive to get people to follow what was being taught. People are fighting over what incentive is right, which I think misses the whole point of the book altogether. -
Good god! This isn't 19th century France when aristocrats who did noing but tax people and hoard their riches were the only ones wealthy and the only way into that club was through birth. Today anybody with a work ethic and smarts can become wealthy. These people aren't forcing people to pay them, people are FREELY giving them money in return for the products/services they provide in order to improve everyone's life. And if you screw with the rich, they say screw you guys move somewhere else and those idiots who decided to screw them over are worse off than before. If the poor people continue with at screw the rich garbage ey will continue having a serious problem on their hands.

No it's because of our friends out west named Asia inflating the price of our commodities we export. Our consumers going on a debt driven shopping spree isn't a good thing and it's a good thing the Tories put a lid on that. Shouldn't have lowered the rates in the first place.
