Nice going the the read of the week. I am only reading academic stuff - but here is one on capital intelligence Polanyi (1966) - we have the power to know more that we can tell because knowledge is personal and has no concrete rules to identify it, or how to observe it.

What is Reasonable Accommodation For Feds?
RB replied to Big Guy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I might still be the only naive female left. First I just don't get what is so god fearing about women. Not to see them, associate with them and be seen by them. -
didn't have a chance to follow the tennis until today and my O my O Canada is doing so well.

Freedominion Closed - A Sad Day For Canada & Freedom
RB replied to jbg's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Obviously the court had the missing details to make their decision. I recall this in the news however did not follow. I guess for all the "Loosey Goosey" social mouths, there is no recanting as in Galileo - you're just going to be put out to dry. -
Freedominion Closed - A Sad Day For Canada & Freedom

indeed sad for freedom of speech...I had even donated to this site to help out with the same cause and I am not conservative. However, I am not sorry to see the site itself go... -

Ok thanks I don't think we get TSN 2 and I am getting preliminaries of winter Games only TSN My tennis loyalty lies with our Canadians, then the Americans I seem to know them all, then I root for UK hopefully by then the championship concludes I am a sports fanatic - I play too - anything sports goes

I follow the tennis - recently there has been a surge of Canadians players - I saw Pospisil play in the Davis Cup he is sharp I thought would get to a final or semis round by this year - it is really tough draw on the men's side to get to a final. Raonic depend on the serve which he is the best, if only he can follow though with some other play or something...easy for me to say. Bouchard is playing so well I hope she advances to the final as well. I caught the Austrialian Open 12 midnight one night TSN but now curling is on - when is the tennis on??

Request from York University male student not to intermingle with wome
RB replied to RB's topic in Religion & Politics
Guess you missed the point, is not about one student making the news - it is about setting a precedent at York University - and pave the way for infringement of rights across education systems York U is my one of my alma mater - I picked up a few degrees, then some here. Some folks work hard - that's also when you fish out "slackers" with all the surreal excuses. So I had a hearty laugh at this one - only it is not that funny - it found a "sucker" who took it seriously. -

Request from York University male student not to intermingle with wome
RB replied to RB's topic in Religion & Politics
I do respect that you have a different view and experience as a teacher - you are correct not all students want to get away from group projects, or want to be free of groups - however in my experience as a student and over 4 different universities now - I still find these "free riders" existing, and that, just perhaps, this is one of those hard working students who is simply too keen, adult and sensitive about group efforts. It is my opinion that the University did not do a due diligence, and conduct a through investigate before accommodation. Accommodation request should be taken seriously. This sounded more like internal conflicts, and struggles with administration and the department. Felt like they had no set policy, like accommodation is just by who is making the request that day. What I meant is if you are going to provide accommodation that it is justified accross the board so that I as a man/or woman can also request this separation of intermingling from other women to enjoy these freedom -
Request from York University male student not to intermingle with wome

Continuing from above - what I meant is there could have been more investigation by these heads when granting individual accommodation that affects groups as a whole. For example hiding information from the "girls" is analogous to putting up the glass ceiling. Offering accommodation to separate from women, can also mean you can accommodate "non-negotiables" like separation from gays, blacks, visible minorities on the religious group basis of course. I mean you'd think that a University in Western society would have some policies on legal exception rule when it comes to education and the gender.... -
Request from York University male student not to intermingle with wome
RB replied to RB's topic in Religion & Politics
My feeling is students will do anything to get away with not doing project work etc. This student however thank the professor for being "reasonable". This is even when the professor refused his request to not work with women - I would not consider this reasonable for an issue I am adament about, like all those demented women, uncleaned wreches and all the other womenly imaginings that circle around in men's head - it woud definitely need more protest. So, It is hard to say whether the student pulled a "fast one" or it was a bona fide claim to be separated from the women. I only said this because it was easy for him to continue the course without much more protest - so it begs the question of how sincere the person is to this religion. -

I of course am surprised and at the same time appalled of the university insistence accommodation of this request. I am glad that the profession took it to the public - why keep it quiet and "don't let the girls know" -
The Racketeer by Grisham - I just finished this. Now reading Rice's Road to Canaan - it is possiable to be divide and human, all at once - a strange take, at first I was shocked at the story telling, but it is a whole new perspective - I would simply regale this to my honey everytime I read a chapter. I also borrowed Rowling's Casual Vacancy from the library read 2 chapters so far, you have to be in the mood to read this. I also collected some of Dickens works from the library and will re-read now that I have much more experience in life. Lastly, I secretly hid from my then strict siblings and read Valley of the Dolls and East of Eden when I was approx. 12 years old, now I have some time to read these again....we shall see what I think now. I have 3 weeks to go through these then return them to the library

Even though I know sucide is rampant in Guyana I am still shocked of the #4 on the suicide list. They had a negative population growth rate at some point. The Amerindians live along the rivers and in the interior and could very well be the lost people, well, at least someone is tallying some numbers. I wouldn't be shocked if those numbers are much higher. Politics and government has a lot to do with the depressed state of the people until some recent changes.

When you are poor anything material is a luxury. Jane Austen kept most of her female characters starved of affection, austere, dark, private, restrain and always escaping whether it is from relationships, or the need for solitude. However, it was expected that a man take care of the lady and the men they kept to their duty - like took a woman. It would be a difficult life if you are an unmarried lady as in an "old maid" and would have to resort to live with protectors. Whether you are in love or not you in Austen’s time it is dutiful to get married. So, in a sense these folks did not live alone esp. women had a support system. Jane Austen however was never married? In these contemporary times everything is different. It is acceptable for people never get married, or to live together without commitment, or to get married later in life because of careers and the building of riches, or to openly live other lifestyles etc. Plus now women do not need men as their financial security, and comfort blanket - means a women and men can live separate lives so that they can gain the independence they crave from their parents even if they encounter hardships. Boils down to a price you pay for wanting to be left alone. This living alone business points to a decay in society in my view. I have many friends that are now older with many regrets of not having children or a longer term partner - as in husband and wife with commitment. The single life is later called the lonely life.
