  1. Alberto Gonzales advised Bush to rescind the Geneva Conventions since this would, "substantially reduces the threat of domestic criminal prosecution under the War Crimes Act." Passed in 1996. Read the How to Destroy a City to Save It paragraph in this text. You'll know why Gonzales advised Bush to do this.
  2. Great politician comeback, avoid the question and take a jab at the person it.
  3. Wow! Who do you think helped the terrorist(Taliban) come to power in Afghanistan? The CIA trained the damn Taliban and actually funded them through their violent overthrow of the local Afghan government in 1996 all the way up to 1999. Since the US invaded Afghanistan, the heroin production has peaked at an all time high in Afghanistan(the Taliban had cut production by 85%). The US funded and supported terrorist organizations in Macedonia. Then we have Nicaragua in relation to Iran contra affair, the overthrow and abduction of a democratically elected socialist .gov in Haiti, the violent overthrow of Salvador Allende in Chili in favour of Pinochet, the list goes on and on concerning US funded terrorism. The war on terrorism is a sham, they create a big bad boogey man and we blindly follow over the edge. Any nation harboring terrorist is not safe according to the US .gov, well then I guess we should take a long hard look at ourselves. Read this, you can thank me latter.
  4. Someone on this board once said, don't believe anything until the .gov has denied it. Climate Researchers Feeling Heat From White House
  5. Forget about the partisan attacks for a second. Doesn't anyone find it wrong that a government (Democrat or Republican) can spy on its own citizens?
  6. Did you actually read the memo?!? "The start date for the military campaign was now penciled in for 10 March," Mr. Manning wrote, paraphrasing the president. "This was when the bombing would begin." No matter what Saddam did, war was to start on the 10th of March! Bush is on record as saying 4 days prior to the "penciled in date" that he was trying everything to avoid war, he didn't want to be knowed as the "war" president.
  7. Where did you see the name Tommy Douglas in this thread? When did I ever use Tommy Douglas as an example? I'll answer for you, I never did, so I guess you're the one doing the baiting then. If you're gonna use a racist to back up an argument, you better be ready for the consequences.
  8. I wouldn't put too much stock in a man who believed in Eugenics and race suicide theory. link
  9. "The start date for the military campaign was now penciled in for 10 March," Mr. Manning wrote, paraphrasing the president. "This was when the bombing would begin." Didn't the Germans stage an attack by dressing up as Poles since they wanted an excuse to start war? edit** It was the Gleiwitz incident "The use of U.N. markings on spy planes to provoke a response from Iraq, which could then be used as a pretext for war, would have been a gross violation of the U.N. mandate for the No-Fly Zone." link
  10. Benedict XV was a grand humanitarian and strong critic of war. Where is this Nazi past? He died in 1922? Are you just making this stuff up now? Oops, my bad. Meant Benedict XVI he was part of the hitler youth which after 1938, was a compulsory organization, mandatory for all young German men.
  11. Would the funding of government overthrow by military dictatorship constitute terrorism? If so you could include the US in there as well. Funny enough, you could include Canada aswell . Like someone said earlier, everyones hands are dirty.
  12. The cold war proved that relatively free capitalism will overpower state controlled capitalism, that's all it did. If you truly believed that the Soviet Union was communist, you need to educate yourself. Any chance the soviets had of becoming communist died with Lenin and the ousting of Trotsky. Indeed
  13. GDP per capita is a terrible way to calculate the wealth of the people. If a country has 1 person making 10 billion a year and 999 people making $50 a year and another country has 1000 people making $1 000 a year, Which one is better off ? According to the GDP per capita, it would be the first but it's obvious to us that the second one is better off. Statistics can be made to prove any point. 73% of people know that .
  14. This is the money link I have ("money man") To quote myself: Now if that's not a smoking gun, I don't know what is. I urge everyone to read the bottom part of the first link.
  15. I guess you've never heard of Latin America. In 2004(The last available numbers I could find), 15,000 workers worked at manufacturing plants controlled by these same workers in Agentina. That number is doubling every year. Venezuela, Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina all have socialist goverments. I misread your post, sorry. Do you normally start a conversation with people by telling them they are liars? All my stats were taken from nation master, cia factbook, US census Bureau, and Huppi survey. My numbers were a comparison of industrialized nations, I trew in Cuba for some contrast.
  16. How do you know all of this Jerry? You're on a rampage against lefties recently.
  17. Iraq did have "WMDs" and the United States knew this because they're the ones that sold them to Saddam. link One minute, The US doesn't care what Saddam does to his people(mid 80s, ask Rumsfeld)and all of a sudden he becomes the devil himself. Funny how we're always the good guys.
  18. The best example of capitalism would probably be the Philippines IMO, unrestrained cowboy capitalism. Some fun facts about the US; 70% are living paycheck to paycheck (Source: Wall Street Journal) Average Household Debt in the US is $71,500 when the closest(UK) is $35,500! Children under the poverty level 22.4% Highest in Industrialized nations. Infant Mortality Rate (per 1,000 live births) is of 10.4 highest in Industrialized nations. Literacy rate is of 97% (68th in the world) equal with Cuba. 98 teen pregnancies per 1,000 teenagers when the closest(UK) is of 46.6 Murder rate for males age 15-24 (per 100,000 people) is of 24.4 when Canada is in second with 2.6 Less than 4% of Americans own their cars outright. Only 34% of Americans own their houses outright Number of politically motivated demonstrations, strikes, riots and armed attacks over 30 years: 4,258 (France has 1,566 by the way) The financial wealth of the top one percent of households now exceeds the combined wealth of the bottom 95 percent. Now of course all of that is meaningless since the US is the country with the most millionaires so who cares right! I use to think the same way as many of you, socialism will take away my individual freedoms, let the invisible hand of capitalism/free markets jerk me off etc... But when you get down to it, unrestrained capitalism has ravaged all countries (other than the fully developed ones) that it has touched. Free markets funnel capital to the core instead of moving it to the periphery. Don't even get me started on the policies of the World Bank and the IMF, whomever thinks giving loans to pay the interest on previous loans is a good idea needs his head checked out. Read up on socialism, you'll soon find out that it's very different than what you've been led to believe. Oh and when you start a thread under the title "Socialism makes people worse" expect people to react in a pretty "direct" way.
  19. Where did you get that quote from?
  20. The socialist caucus is a small part of the NDP which steers them towards the left on certain issues like health care and nationalisation. But it's still a capitalistic party that has recently been moving towards the center. I posted the information above to correct a common misconception people on this board have. But what really burns me is that certain people use certain ideologies people have as way to attack them, they use it as a derogatory term. Just because someone may be a commie might not mean he wants government to take away your rights just like being a fascist may not necessarily be a bad thing(Nazism is a completely different bag).
  21. The NDP is definitely not communist. The NDP is a center left party with a small but vocal socialist contingent . I don't think you actually know the difference between a socialist and a communist(Marxist or Leninist). A socialist will work within the present system to establish a socialist state while lets say a Leninist will advocate revolution by a small group of professional revolutionaries and a Marxist will advocate revolution by the working class as a democratic and non violent process. There's a whole lot of ideologies past the NDP on the left. The more you know
  22. And this kinda proves my point(from the media thread) that whether the issue is left or right we don't get to see the whole picture from the "news channels". I'd rather have more info on this issue before giving my opinion though.
  23. Yes, there are over 3 millions lazy workers in France.
  24. You're not stuck with them forever?! If someone f##ks up bad then he's gone. This law allows employers to fire without reason(other than their 2 years are almost up)!!! Again this is just a ploy to produce a pool of cheap on demand labour for employers. I can only imagine how badly this will affect productivity.
  25. I know but alot of people on this board doesn't realize this.. I think. Just because you are leftist doesn't mean you're a commie nor does being on the right make you a fascist.
