Why all the worldwide turmoil? (9/11 thread)

Well, if not nanobots, then how about this? Concrete bacteria workin' hard -
Why all the worldwide turmoil? (9/11 thread)
Hydraboss replied to hot enough's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I think it's definitely a subject worthy of debate. Just think, if Boeing installed the wrong engines on this many jets how safe do you feel flying anymore? What about equipping planes with the wrong landing gear? Sure, it's fine when you're in the air but when you come in to land....BOOM! I think we should continue to hold their lackadaisical quality assurance methods to account. As a long term member Wilber, I can't believe that you have no feelings, emotions or opinions on this. -

Thanks. I think the true basis for reasonable debate is having a basic agreement on some level. -
Why all the worldwide turmoil? (9/11 thread)

I may not be the sharpest balloon in the drawer, but would the support of murdered people really be that valuable? I mean, I could see if maybe they injured us or severely insulted us but I can't see the value in killing us. How does one actively support when dead? I highly doubt I'd be able to vote for them when deceased. -
Why all the worldwide turmoil? (9/11 thread)

Maybe the 767 had undersized engines and that's why it couldn't reach the "correct" speeds. Cheap-ass Boeing probably installed engines from a 747 or 737 to save money. So, to be clear: It was not capable of the speed at which it was traveling. Okay, that makes perfect sense and I should be able to use that line of reason the next time I get pulled over for speeding. "Officer, although your radar gun took a reading that my truck was traveling at 150kph, this vehicle is not capable of that speed so I could not have been driving that fast. It doesn't matter what you measured it at, the radar reading (oh, you're using laser?) will not hold up in court because I just said so. To obtain that speed, I would likely have to mount an engine along the lines of a CFM56." -

C'mon Boges. Don't be ridiculous. It was obviously government-altered nanobots. How else would anyone be able to repair the damage so quickly. Next up...assassin bugs. Nanothermite I would guess. -

How strange. Everyone is getting all bent out of shape, yet when I look at Cyber's account....... .....it says "suspended", not "banned". At least this place is going back to where it was actually a little bit of fun. Some heated debate. A little "light" name calling. You know....enjoyable. I actually get a kick out of the no-win that Charles always finds himself in. Damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. -
Trudeau can damn well stay on "his side" of Canada and keep his nose out of "our neighbours to the west" 's business. Alberta doesn't need a f**king thing from Ottawa. Besides, while the Liberals contemplate whether or not to give any aid to Ft Mac, this shit occurs - http://globalnews.ca/news/2684486/justin-trudeau-in-toronto-to-make-transit-announcement/ Hey Justin Trudeau - stay out of our province. As for anyone thinking "why is it still burning? where's the plan?" - you cannot put out a fire like this. The burn line is around 1000deg, 40-80 feet high and literally sucking the oxygen out from in front of it. Crews CANNOT fight it from the front. It has to either burn itself out, receive a ton (as in torrential amount) of rain, or both. Fire personnel and equipment like bombers can only try to guide the fire line. They've been using bombers to try to preserve houses in town. The crews and equipment from Syncrude, Suncor Base Plant, Albian Sands, Firebag, Ft Hills, Horizon, etc have been helping existing fire crews try and prevent the whole damn town from being lost and by providing side and rear guard for the evacuation convoys. Major thanks to all of them! I've spent the last week running my ass off to deal with things going on up there and I'm exhausted, so I can't even imagine what fire crews and police are feeling like.

Good to know. Can someone please let the Omar the Terrorist know that? Should make his payout somewhat less. I wonder if he's filling out the census...

How will I vote in the Manitoba Provincial Election 2016
Hydraboss replied to Smallc's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
While true, my comment was more aimed at the fact that "right leaning" governments are retaking our side of Canada. BC's Liberals are pretty much SoCred (conservative), the Saskatchewan Party is conservative, Manitoba is conservative...the only one left is Alberta. The remainder of this mandate and we'll rid ourselves of this NDP infestation. You're 100% right about Balkanization though. This country is only a confederation on paper - we are nothing more than a group of self-interested regions that share a military. Just glad that Manitoba is back in the club. Half of my family is from Winnipeg and I was getting tired of hearing them whine so much..... -
Do you think with your mind or your heart?

110 Nice waste of five minutes, but can't understand why it would matter. -

Hydraboss replied to Smallc's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Pretty hard swing for the NDP - 40 of 57 to the PCs. I'm thinking that this is a foreshadowing of what will happen in Alberta in a few years if the deficit spending keeps happening. Or, as in the case of Manitoba, there are tax increases against political promises not to do so. Sellinger made a fatal mistake with the PST increase, so I hope the Notley gang are listening up. 16+ years is a hell of a run though.... -

So Notley is the last remaining NDP government in Canada. Good for Manitoba and good for Canada as a whole. Just one more provincial government to turn conservative and the West is again complete. -
So Accountability Now posted some pretty specific information in post #35 above. I'm curious if anyone is planning on actually disputing the numbers or if the plan is to simply ignore them and keep on with the "underfunded natives" narrative. Still no takers?

I agree completely, but I think the difference may be in what different people consider "sustainable development". The NDP obviously believe that the word means O&G development should be killed off. The definition I like is "Sustainable development is about meeting the needs of today without compromising the needs of future generations" not "keeping it in the ground because it's evil". Simpler definition: "keep extracting at a stable rate so my kids generation can continue to extract at a stable rate". Because there's a couple trillion barrels of oil....and they don't have to hunt for it. They know exactly where it is and how to get it without any form of wildcatting. The whole oilsands is a great big known. Uhm...ya. O&G creates jobs and lots and lots of income for everyone involved and pays for everyone's nanny programs. I happen to like money very much. It allows me to buy pretty things that are on two and four wheels. And really good donuts. And beer. If sustainable means "able to be maintained at a certain rate or level", then I happen to be in favor of it. I don't often scoff, but when I do I prefer to do it at the use of the word "ilk".

And 36 Bb/yr would be "scary" if Alberta was the only remaining source of oil in the whole world. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe we are. Right now, all of Canada produces about 3.6 Mb/d which is roughly 1.3Bb/year - at that rate we only have enough left for about 137 years (of course, that's assuming that every single drop came out of Alberta). Yup...scary. We could be COMPLETELY OUT by 2153. Whatever shall we do??? That should be enough thread drift for this line of conversation.....
-
Now THAT I agree with. It's a realistic statement and probably the best thing the party could do would be to accept it. Unlike the Green party and May, the NDP has the ability to actually keep a few MPs in the House to raise issues, but if they continue to try to chase winning the election they will have to move away from extremism. Somehow I doubt the new direction that the party is likely to take will be compatible with accepting that as an either-or proposition.
-
Perhaps there's just a touch of future left https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Athabasca_oil_sands edit-> that's probably even enough to heat at least half of David Suzuki's houses

So how many more posts are you going to put up that don't have a single word to do with the thread title? You're the devout NDPer so what are your thoughts on the leadership review and what's going to happen from here? Where's the party going? Where's Muclair going? What's the fallout going to be from the activist-led Manifesto? I've been posting what I think is going to/should happen. Your turn.
-
Then go whine to them Cyber - you wouldn't be the first one to in the last few pages. You know quite well there have been umpteen threads that called Harper and the Cons everything under the sun. As for Mulcair, I think the best thing he could do for himself would be to move over to the Liberals. His statements in the press pre-leadership review were pretty clear that he really doesn't stand for anything in particular..."I'll basically do whatever the party decides to", so that makes him a perfect flip-flop and govern by the polls candidate and fits with the way the Libs have always been. It could also guarantee him a job once the NDP finally boots him so at least he'd keep earning the big bucks and have Canadians continue to sock away cash for his pension.

Selective Abortions: They're Happening in Canada
Hydraboss replied to Boges's topic in Sex and Gender Issues
Come on Boges...the minute these "Indian born women" set foot in this country they're Canadian. Therefore, this kind of thing must now be considered a "Canadian Value", right? NEVER question Canadian Values..... -
It's not beneath anyone. Trudeau is scum. The Liberals are scum and, as a political party, they will lie without hesitation. This may offend your partisan side (which we all have) but it doesn't mean I'm wrong. Likely, it just means you and I disagree.
-
Not a chance of Layton becoming PM. Although he's been "remembered" as this semi-messiah, the truth is he still reminded a lot of people as a used car salesman. He had nothing to offer Canada except to act as some kind of "conscience" to which no one paid attention. I never disliked Jack, but there was no way in hell he was ever going to lead a country.
-
I think you're overreaching significantly with that statement. I, for one, do not want any type of democracy where social justice warriors have any say in our governance. I prefer capitalism without the political correctness thank you.
