  1. People bought what they were sold now didn't they? Most people have no idea how our system works so if the CPC shout "coup" (very quietly - like perhaps a "leak"?), then most people are going to hear it because very few people could be bothered to actually study a little about Canadian government. Harper will have all the cards in that event..."we won the most seats"..."they want to change YOUR government without giving you a say"..."a free and democratic society is based on your right to VOTE for your government"...etc, etc. Sound bites play well.
  2. See, this is where we disagree. If the CPC failed to have confidence on their first vote, we have an issue in the House. You and I understand what the GG could potentially do, but to switch governing parties without another election would probably cause major confusion with the electorate and you might as well start following the trending of the word "coup" right now. It's not what is "legal" - it's the "perception of legal" with most people.
  3. If the CPC get a minority, any minority, I think his overly long campaign will work in his favor. If the LPC and NDP refuse to create a formal coalition and yet still take down the CPC at the throne speech, whichever one does it will be "to blame" for another election in the eyes of huge portion of the electorate IMO. I doubt many people understand the abilities of the GG and I also doubt that he would refuse the request for another election if the CPC minority were taken down, so it would be off to the election again and only one party would have the money to do so. edit-> And I really believe that Harper was planning for the likelihood of this exact thing happening when he dropped the writ. If he were to get another majority, then who cares how long the campaign was. If he were to be reduced to a minority.....see above. Prentice made mistakes that shot himself square in the forehead.
  4. No, I don't think he would. If that scenario played out, Justin would simply govern like he had a majority since the NDP are too broke to go to another election. Of course, so are the Liberals. The NDP would gripe loudly about everything, but ensure that just enough of their MPs vote to support the Liberals.
  5. I sincerely doubt that JT is smart enough to be that crooked.
  6. 308 and Polltracker are the same thing.
  7. Sooo....what the hell is up with the divergence between 308 and The Signal? Pretty sizable differences between their aggregations when it comes to the Libs and Cons Signal 34.2L / 33.2C 308 35.1L / 31.0C I would think the aggregates would be more accurate than any individual polls, but should they be that different? We're talking 1% and 4.1%. Doesn't sound right.
  8. Likely not. For that to happen, voters would have to care about the environment.
  9. I wonder how many people doing the ABC thing have truly thought about that. When the NDP were leading, supporters were slamming the Liberals, and now they are apparently supporting them. How convenient. edit->sp
  10. So you're voting CPC? Awesome!
  11. You said anyone voting to block a party is an extremist. Strategic voting (in this case) is strictly to block the Conservatives. Hence, "extremist".
  12. So anyone considering strategic voting is an extremist then - your definition not mine. Correct?
  13. He stated "middle East migrants". Was that too complicated to understand? And yet another KKK quote from you. Have you ever considered actually refuting for a change rather than being so bloody passive aggressive?
  14. How do you figure that I don't believe in democracy? Did I say that I want "my team" to win without a vote? No, I didn't. I definitely believe in perpetually blocking left-leaning principles from taking over Canada, and the only way to reduce that chance is to vote for whatever party leans my direction - exactly the same thing that every other Canadian is doing in another week. By you're own definition, anyone who votes for a party is an extremist because...damn it...no one's team should ever win. That's just against democracy. Your use of labeling for anyone who disagrees with you is pitiful. Truly pitiful.
  15. My, my aren't you the self righteous one. So now I'm an "extremist" because I don't agree with your vision of government? Hmm....now where have I heard THAT type of garbage before??? Oh yeah - a particular ex-teacher that posts here. Maybe you two could just design the government and all it's policies and let the rest of us know how things will done from now on?
  16. Of course I would. I would prefer a perpetual Reform rule, but not much hope there....
  17. No, we can't. It hasn't been that damn bad. You may choose to breathlessly rant about the "horror" of Harper's time in office but it won't make it any more true than the original anti-CPC ads that have been run. Soldiers. In our streets. With guns.
  18. I really wonder about that. How reliable are the numbers that show x% of conservatives vote?
  19. I've got to think that with the "threat" of the Liberals taking power, the number of conservatives that normally don't bother to vote might reduce. I know several people that always find an excuse for why they didn't cast a ballot, and maybe I'm just hopeful that this might be enough to get them to do their duty.
  20. Who's whining and sniveling? You are aware that most people don't give a damn about politics outside of election time, are you not? Aside from this board and others like it, how many people do you know that are "card carrying (anythings)"?? I'm certainly not and no one I know is. After the 20th and the various "whining and sniveling" from every side of the spectrum about who won or didn't, the Canadian public will go back to sleep and forget politics for the most part. In a way I'm glad there's only one less-left-leaning party in this country or we'd be faced with the vote splitting issue we had for years. I'd like to see a few more more-left-leaning parties show up in the mainstream so the vote on that end would be divided even more.
  21. I'm not voting for Harper, I'm voting against the other two. So are the vast majority of people I know. Still haven't personally met anyone who likes Harper the person, and I'm in freakin Alberta.
  22. For all the polls showing the LPC in the lead, I still have to wonder if the CPC efficiency will come into play even more than usual. The minute you're in the lead, voters for your opposition seem to get off their collective butts - in Canada we're very good at voting against people.
  23. Their "base" doesn't have any place to go. Don't confuse people voting for Harper with people that like Harper.
  24. I couldn't care less if someone collects the child benefit or any other tax break, tax incentive, etc that they qualify for. Now there are examples where "sucking off the government teat" is a reality - people who pay no tax due to low income or people who sit on welfare and collect money but do nothing to pay into the system. Note that I did not say that these people are useless or scum or anything of the kind - but both those situations constitute using the "government teat". Not really debatable. And, no, I don't particularly care for the latter type of people unless there is a REAL reason they're on welfare and not just too lazy to work. There's also one other type of person I have no use for - the one who pays nothing into the system because of amazingly good accountants. Not much use for this one either.....
