  1. A war? In Canada? What are we gonna do, throw TimBits at each other? Better hope it never comes to that. Alberta has more unregistered long guns. Some of them even still fire.
  2. What has all this got to do with anything? You're obviously off on a rant trying to use facts to confuse the situation. Little Terrorist will be returned to Canada, set free with blithering appologies, handed millions of taxpayers dollars, given a parade, and then the NDP and Liberals will request an Order of Canada medal for him (but without the Canadian reference on it...we wouldn't want to offend peoples of other cultures). You should know better Dancer.
  3. Now, that there is just funny, I don't care who you are (thanks Larry). Good link.
  4. So if 58% of Albertans wanted to separate (especially if 40% STRONGLY AGREED), you'd be okay with that because they're the majority?
  5. My point being...that a large part of the people that think these benefits are "benefits of living in Canadian society....benefits that we all share" are the same ones that either participate little or not at all in the funding of said programs. So now you speak for "people" do you? And you can solidly predict what will happen regarding change in this country because of....your vast experience? Let me guess: you're still in school. edit to add: And "mainstream" is who? Central Canadians?
  6. Yes, benefits we all share. But not all of us paid for them, eh? How long have you been paying taxes to support these "benefits"? Maaayyybbeee two years?
  7. No, we should aspire to surpass it. Criminals do not need a friendly hand, they need prison. That's what a justice system is supposed to do...punish criminals. Unfortunately, Canada has a legal system.
  8. As long as central Canada holds the west ransom with it's own money, it will not happen. Unless people out here finally hit the breaking point and say "enough". The federal Liberals in power will help to move things in that direction.
  9. If you can categorize us as a "group", then collectively I think we have learned from the Reform days. When we vote for a party that actually represents us, the vote on the right is split and the Liberals come up the middle indefinately. Hopefully that won't happen again. This is where a lot of conservatives are stuck. We will never get the government that we want, so for the rest of time we have to vote for the party that keeps the ones we hate out of power. Hell of a democracy for those of us from the west. It's as close as we'll get to democracy, but the result means nothing. Remaining part of this disaster holds no promise of improvement. What the hell does that mean? If Canadians as a whole want to vote for the Liberals, why aren't they in power?
  10. Norman already said it, and correctly. Those of us that consider ourselves conservative have no choice except Harper. Steve is scum and plays to whoever he has to to retain power, including robbing the taxpayer coffers to pay for left-wing BS and ridiculous "nanny state" programs that the left want. I, and many like me, will have to hold our noses when we vote. But we will vote for him. The only thing that makes us want to puke more than the Cons is anyone to the left of the Cons.
  11. Borg, Please use the correct pronounciation of the name. Smallc hates when you do it wrong. It's Kwebek. You forgot the "w".
  12. Yes, it is. Just a question. How come people can pull "stats" on how well the Tamils (or any other identifiable group) are doing in Canada, but we can't find numbers on their contribution to crime, etc? "We don't keep crime statistics based on race or ethnicity" or some BS like that, unless the point is to prove that they're "good" for Canada.
  13. Holy sh*t Kimmy! That last line was meeeeaaaannnn! Funnier than hell. But meeaann. (mind if I use that?)
  14. I have no problem with them protesting. Keep at 'er as long as you want. We have LOTS of welfare money in this "country". I have a problem with anyone interfering with an official ceremony of this type. It wouldn't matter to me if it was 10,000 Albertans protesting for separation...I'd want them to get the hell off the hill and let the ceremony take place. If not, have the cops or military get in there and move them forcibly. This is not about civil rights; it's about respect for people who died in a horrific war. And the number of Jews killed makes absolutely no difference. 5 million. 7 million. 40 million. The point is men, women and even children were murdered in the most horrendous ways imaginable (and some unimaginable) and they should be remembered.
  15. YOUR SCORE Your scored 3.5 on Moral Order and -6.5 on Moral Rules. The following categories best match your score (multiple responses are possible): System: Conservatism Ideology: Conservative NeoLiberalism Party: Republican Party Presidents: Ronald Reagan 04' Election: George W. Bush 08' Election: John McCain Of the 537,987 respondents (9,068 on Facebook): 2% are close to you. 1% are more conservative. 3% are more liberal. 85% are more socialist. (go figure) 9% are more authoritarian. Who would have thought the word "liberal" in any form would show up in a description of me. Weird.
  16. My wife is a union nurse. My neighbor is a union welder that makes $43.00 per hour. He's not going to lose his house any more than I am. You'd "whine" too if someone was taking that much off your check. I do make a damn good living because I work hard. You don't see anything wrong with that much tax because you obviously have no ambition. Maybe if you actually tried to better your lot in life you would have a clue what the hell you're talking about. People like you try to make it an evil thing to want to do better for your own family strictly because of jealousy. So you're going nowhere in life. Oh well. Can you see this very tiny violin that I'm playing for you?
  17. I think the US has what it needs in the area www.bainbridge.navy.mil Maybe one or two more of these, and orders to open fire on hostiles. That'd just about do it.
  18. Hold nose. Place "X" on idiot conservative candidate box. Go home and drink beer until I forget what I've done.
  19. My guess would be that those are people that have recently moved to the province. They can vote any way they wish, but it will not make a difference. Their votes count about as much as a Reform vote would in Kwebek.
  20. There are two commonly known swing ridings in Alberta. Strathcona in Edmonton and Anne McClellan's old riding......oh yeah.....in Edmonton. The 30% means absolutely nothing. Consider the margin with which Conservative candidates win, and the margin by which Liberal candidates lose.
  21. Molly, you are not incorrect. Alberta IS developing that outward view. Harper's people know damn well that he's not a lot more popular out here than most Liberal leaders, but the fact is he's NOT officially a Liberal and therefore will be voted for in Alberta (we're not voting for him; we're voting against Liberals). The whole "play nice and things will change" thought process has gone out the window in large part. You would most likely find that Albertans are not "out-and-out obnoxious- rude, obstructive, arrogant, no pretence to either civility or rationality.... no pretence to fair play" as long as you are Albertan. We definitely look after our own. Other than that, all bets are off. Do we cultivate this whole outward appearance? You bet. Even though "it's running provincial credibility into the dumpster"? Think about this: Why would we care? It has never done us any good in the past to be the silent pack-horse, so why would we continue to act that way? I know people like tango will ask for sources and cites, and he and others will deny that there are grounds for Alberta acting this way. In answer to the sources, I would say "ask my neighbors, friends and people I work with". As for "grounds", I would again say "If you haven't lived here for any length of time, you have no idea what you are talking about". You lived in Saskatchewan during the early 80's? If you did, then you should have a damn good idea what I'm talking about. I have company locations in Turtleford, Swift Current, Estevan and others, and I will tell you that their attitudes in general are no different from mine. These guys are just starting to make some serious coin and many of our people are finally able to move back home and still work for us (because of oil development). Wait until tax year 2009-10, then you'll see anger. An awful lot of people out here are Albertan first (or Sask), and Canadian second (if convenient).
  22. Yup. A man with an answer for every question. They don't have to be good answers, just answers.
  23. Molly, you're theory is dead on. Not in all cases, but many. Western Canada's POV has been non-existent for so many years (more than my lifetime) that federal intervention is accepted only when it is made law. Even then, not always. There are now, and always will be, those who deny the impact of the NEP out here. It matters not if they come up with a thousand versions of history; it has put a "permanent" sever in the "cross-country cord". Some of us watched our familly, friends and neighbors lose everything. Whether of not the NEP caused this, it's legacy will never be forgotten. Dobbin, you are correct on the second point (I'm not familiar with the first). Trudeau was the closest thing to a war criminal that western Canada has ever seen. Now, before you get your panties in a knot, I'm not saying he killed anyone or anything as ridiculous as that. I am saying, though, that I personally know people that would have put a bullet in the man from close range given the chance. There were those that openly cheered when the news showed coverage of the train carrying his coffin. Can't say as I blame them. These are not light words, nor are they exagerations. They are true. This is the extent to which the Liberals and their policies are outright hated in Alberta. Extreme? Absolutely. Will the tradition continue? Absolutely.
  24. The Sarnia line is a drop in the bucket. We could blind that thing off and never notice a difference.
