  1. You are very, very wrong with regards to international movement of your certificate. Within Canada, employers could generally give a rat's ass where you were certified (unless they are actually a top-notch company that cares whether or not you have knowledge of provincial-specific OHS regs).
  2. They already do. My wife has...many, many times in the last two years. So do all of her coworkers.
  3. But not, apparently, about ISO.
  4. Wrong again. Those are not the only two choices. The fact that WCB is involved only affects the end payer, not the booking of appointments/tests. WCB patients jump the queue. Compensation boards across the country vary greatly in application of provincially-specific rules. P.s. - your certificate is NOT recognized outside of Canada. You've been mislead. As for more education, try U of A Faculty of Extension for the diploma program. Might help. If you want to go to the States, you'll need OSHA qualifications. Not hard to get, but a major advantage if you want. National "red seal" of an NCSO is transferrable across Canada.
  5. Do you have the faintest idea what the hell you are talking about?
  6. The cost I have already clarified. The wait times are correct. The "public system" had a six month wait. WCB had a 30 day wait. No wait when I paid cash. Wow! A certificate! That must have taken you, what, a year???? Amazing! Just how many courses did you take on WCB? One? Let me guess...Disability Management/Claims Management and perhaps Back Injury Prevention? How many days do you have in practice?
  7. Actually, I'm quite familiar with how WCB works. I do it for a living. Any GP/WCB Adjudicator/Case Manager/IME/etc can book testing and, in the end, WCB will pay them and for the test. The exception to this is when the patient (and/or family) pay independantly. In my wife's case, WCB applied for the results and got them, and I got to pay the bill (but I knew that going in). Try searching "Alberta WCB W-15, Workers Compensation Act of Alberta". So once again, little one, you are wrong. Alberta Health Care was never going to be on the hook for the cost.
  8. Good god! Are you people for real? There are so many tiers in Canadian health care already that this whole question is moot. WCB, private medicine for athletes, private medicine for politicians, private medicine for the military, .......... I'm not saying it's bad - quite the contrary. I believe in a fully private system. My wife is a specialized RN and she believes in private health care. Why is this debate even going on? Anyone listen to the radio ads for the Cambie Clinic in the last few weeks? "Go where the sports pros go! Located in Vancouver, it's fly-in, fly-out convenience!!! Surgery without the wait." Wife was injured at work. Her personal GP said approximately 6 months for an MRI of her C4-C5. WCB said about 30 days. I called MIC (Medical Imaging Consultants) near the UofA in Edmonton and for $499 she was in the next morning at 11:30am. Private, multi-tier health care already exists in Canada. Ask Jack Layton.
  9. Did you mean ISO 9001-2000, or perhaps ISO 14001? What the hell is ISO 2009?
  10. This just in..... The Federal NDP convention has been moved. Due to massive growth in the party ranks, the convention will now be held at booth #6 instead of table #3 at the Burger King in Windsor, Ontario. The change of venue will allow for up to eight people to attend, an improvement over the six person capacity offered by table #3. Film at 11.
  11. Thanks for the bang-on post Moxie. Now I don't have to type the same damn thing (cause guys like dobbin would just accuse me of being a racist, intolerant, small-minded bigot if I did). People who are confused sexually are indeed suffering from a mental disorder, and surgery cannot fix that.
  12. If it was illegal, I would intervene. Short of that..no. Maybe, maybe not. You and people like you have the idea that, unless everyone instantaneously agrees with your value system, then they must be fixed and fixed quickly. Your methods are about as effective as trying to crush Jello in your hand. The harder you try, the more people "switch sides" and end up going against you. Forced tolerance has always been a bad idea.
  13. Watch your words. "We" don't punish those who are outside of the norm. "Some" people do...not me. I refuse to take part in some ridiculous mass-guilt fest for something I have never done. You can have my share. And, yes, as long as I'M normal, that is all that matters to me.
  14. Wouldn't matter to me in the least. Go ahead. Or don't. (You see, I'm normal. Married to a woman. No one points, laughs or yells things at me.)
  15. You mean the true meaning of reality?
  16. Oh for christ sake, gays ARE different. If 99% of the world was gay, the 1% straight people would be "different". I could care less if you're a "fag" or "transgendered" or "a multi-colored, omni-gendered, blue haired half-zebra". The fact is, you're different and people will always look/point/stare/comment on that which is not the norm. Buck up and deal with it. I'll bet far more black guys have "nigger" yelled at them on a daily basis. Or was that white guys having "cracker" yelled at them? Always forget that one... Guess it depends what is "normal" in that area. Some guy walks in a gay parade. Who cares? Nobody. If he gives taxpayer dollars to it, then people should care....and be pissed!
  17. This, from someone who posts like a discount fortune cookie. Your statements regularly remind me of the character "The Sphinx" from Mystery Men. Mystery Men "You must lash out with every limb, like the octopus who plays the drums." "We are number one. All others are number two, or lower." "To learn my teachings, I must first teach you how to learn." "He who questions training only trains himself at asking questions."
  18. EI stats are complete bullshit when taken in certain context. Someone already said that the answer you get is based on the question you ask. Take for example, the Alberta unemployment rate: The June 2009 numbers show Alberta to have a rate of 6.8%. Stats Can In 2008 when there were so many jobs in the province that employers were flying people in from all over the country AND STILL couldn't fill anywhere near all the available positions, the rate was touted to be 3.6%. Alberta Gov Stats The 2008 number (up 0.1% from 2007) clearly shows that those people that make up the 3.6% DIDN'T WANT TO WORK. So why are they on the stats? The current number should deduct those people giving an effective rate in Alberta of 3.2%. May not be 100% accurate, but it's a hell of a lot closer. If a person's EI ran out, that means they have already collected a year's worth of cash. That year places them back in the spring/summer of 2008 BEFORE the "big crash" and the "massive layoffs". The recession has nothing to do with their needing EI.
  19. Correct. Unions had their place, but that was a very long time ago. Now the only job of the union is to ensure the survival of the union. This is a perfect quote to support Keepitsimple's statement above.
  20. Well Michael, here's a policy discussion for you: No more Muslims allowed to immigrate to Canada. Is that enough of a stance for you? We identify a problem and then we take steps to implement corrective actions. I'm not saying that Muslims are the one and only cause of the woes in Canada. I am, however, saying that since we know they are a problem, we should take steps to fix it. Sure there are murders committed for all sorts of reasons, and some of those are "inherent" to existing Canadian culture. It doesn't mean they should be ignored but they already exist so we get rid of the problems where we find them. The radical Muslim issue is growing worldwide (see: EU countries) and we need to address it before we end up like England or France. I notice that no one wants to address Argus' "KKK" question. Not palatable?
  21. No it isn't. It is factual, and that you disapprove of the content does not make it hate-based. If society suddenly discovered the cause of domestic violence and developed a "cure" you would be all over it as would we all. In this case we have unearthed one of the causes...a specific use of a religion. Maybe we should see this incident properly in that way.
