They should be charged (and convicted) of treason, and subsequently imprisoned for life as per the laws of Canada. Seven years (on paper) less a whole bunch of time for whatever is a joke.

Correct. It's called "liberalism". Say it with me...

Would this be a prudent time to remind you that Harper is from Toronto? Would this be a prudent time to remind you that Jim works for the guy from Toronto? Back up. I already said that Alberta hasn't been governed by conservatives in quite a while.

Your statement proves exactly what I was saying about Ed the Idiot being too far left. There was money there until the PC Liberals of Alberta got control of the helm. Actually, the economy is pretty much fine. The deficit is simply a matter of uncontrolled Liberal spending in this province. Revenues are still head and shoulders above any other place in Canada. Not at the moment there isn't. Agreed. I would imagine that Howard the Duck or Barney would probably be more fiscally prudent than Ed the Communist. That being said, in his first two terms, Ralph was somewhat of a financial genius (in an idiot-savant kind of way). He made the hard choices and let the more intelligent carry out the work. In his last term, he was a meathead.

Conservatives - the Natural Governing Party?

Not even a little likely (but we can hope). -
Tories put stop to sex offender treatment

They shouldn't volunteer. Voluntold would make more sense. Again, the word choice should not exist in a convict's vocabulary. That's why sex offenders that aren't castrated prior to release...shouldn't be released. Because...(wait for it)... -

Face it. Jack wimped out by not standing up like a vertebrate. He would have got a lot more mileage out of "taking a stand for Working FamiliesTM", since he could simply have said "I said I would do it, and I'm doing it." Everyone knows that to let the Cons fall would be suicide for Jack and Michael. The NDP won't support the Cons for long (just until the polls show them at 16-17% consistently). As for an election, I'm all for it. What's 300mil compared to a gun registry or the HRDC Jane boondoggle? Besides, members of MLW need an election. There will be the square root of f*ck all for voter backlash regarding an election. Most Canadians can't remember past the last NHL game. -
First of all, I'm not from Calgary. Ed IS left wing for this province (his recent speech following the Wildrose win in Calgary stated that Albertans want him to take the government in a more conservative direction). His words, not mine. The people from the east that hate Albertans will hate us regardless of who is in power. Stelmach very nearly lost the election (remember it was all or nothing in the end). Morton would have made many people in this province very happy. Hopefully he runs again when Eddie the Communist gets booted. The PC's may have no choice but to run him if the Wildrose gains power. I disagree. They will not form government anytime soon, but I could see them becoming Official Opposition due to the hatred for Ed. Right wing conservatives want to be able to send a message without actually changing the government. Albertans are bored with their politics.

Liberals might be granted their death wish

Iggy should consider sending Jack a nice bottle of Glenlivet for the favor. Talk about making yourself look stupid. Thanks Mike. -
Tories Survive No-Confidence Motion
Hydraboss replied to Dave_ON's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If Jack actually had any principles or balls, he would have stood up in the House and voted for the motion. Instead, he chose to have his nails done and disappear. All he had to do was make a statement that he does not support the government, but he does support the legislation. That, at least, would have given him a modicum of respect with voters. Instead he chose to practice Liberal politics. Too bad. Missed opportunity for the non-party. -
See? THERE ya go Jack. Way to represent the "East vs West" debate (still alive and kicking). It only matters what people "east of the Manitoba border" think, huh? I'm sure people in "Beamsville, Ontario" are the height of the cosmopolitan world and know what's best for all of us, right? God probably would help this country if it is forced (kinda like the Third Reich) to endure Alberta thinking. Heaven forbid we should have accountability on the part of criminals, low taxes, and an immigration system that actually makes sense. The Conservatives are just waiting to force all of those voters on election day.

Bang on. Another shining example of how different the political views of Albertans are from other areas of Canada. Yes, Stelmach is very left wing for this province and yet so far to the right for some parts of Canada to be considered redneck. Someone like Bush would have been elected here in a split second. Even though he's an idiot, he's still better than the Liberals or NDP.
-
When a leader is hated this much and the party refuses to remove him as leader, constituents only have one course of action open to them -----> vote them out. One would think that MLA's would get the idea after so many occurences of this, but until the Wildrose, there really hasn't been an option for conservatives. There's no way in hell we would elect a Liberal government, and the NDP can hold a caucus meeting in a bathroom. How else does the message get to the party?

Tories put stop to sex offender treatment
Hydraboss replied to Visionseeker's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
...and this would be step two...stop releasing this scum to prey on others. How many of these people do we hear about with multiple convictions? Not just one or two, but 40 and 50 offences. Would you like one of these subhumans living next door to your kids? (I don't actually expect you to answer that directly...in the history of that question being asked, not a single "hug a thug" type has ever done it. They simply deflect it with some bs statement about how it proves that we need treatment programs.) So, do you want one of these "rehabilitated" predators living across the street from your kid's elementary school? I mean, at 83% effective, there's only a 17% chance some child will be raped. That's acceptable odds, right? -

...and this is the first thing a Conservative majority needs to change. Corrections Canada needs to focus on public safety and incarceration. Prison is supposed to be a deterent. I call bullshit until some independant, third party studies the results and decides to agree with CC. -
Tories put stop to sex offender treatment
Hydraboss replied to Visionseeker's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You can't "fix" rapists and child molesters without a gun (or a very large electrical charge). How about we take that money and spend it on victim services???? Does anyone actually care if these not-quite-humans get treatment, and if so, why? -
Thank god Klein piped up. That makes 100% of all concerned parties in the "I hate Ed the communist" camp (teachers, nurses, all other political parties, Klein, Bronconnier, unions, oilpatch, etc). The guy has managed to piss off everyone in the province. This may be the first time a PC leader got toasted in his first term. Excellent. As for the Wildrose, I sincerely hope they steal more than 10 seats. There is no way in hell that the Stelmach Liberals will lose the next election, but it would be a pleasure to see him have a very slim majority. 10, 9, 8, 7, 6........bye Ed!

Canada to be exempt from Buy Americian
Hydraboss replied to punked's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
That and Canada is a major supplier (in minor terms) of domestic oil. The trade-off for the Obamanation is that they keep their sizable market open to a relatively small business sector (Canadian) in exchange for a reliable source of black stuff. It's a no-brainer for the no-brainer. -
Immigration, baby boomers & 'making whoopie.'

Thank you for the (thankfully clear) math lesson. Why do more people not understand this? -
Geez Dobbin, I think you're getting a little extreme wanting to shoot everyone. I'd be happy with just the child molesters, child murderers, first degree murderers, repeat violent offenders and rapists. There's probably more, but I don't feel like going through the entire penal code right now. You should take a more liberal approach to justice buddy. Not everyone has to die. As for trials, you know we can't get rid of them...we'd have to change the saying to "We won't give him a fair trail and hang him in the morning."
-
I agree. As long as they are repeat, violent offenders or are found guilty of first degree murder or any first time violent offence against children-------->bang. Problem solved. A lot cheaper too.
-
Please cite the last one or two cases of this occuring (charges being laid for passing a joint to their brother while in their own residence). Thanks.
-
One bullet per hardened, repeat, violent offender is cheaper. Actually, a bullet behind the ear is THE most effective way to deal with crime. It solves the issue of recidivism of violent offenders, and will scare the others straight. Again, a bullet to the head cures the problem of prison violence and rioting. So, is anyone actually looking for the most effective method of dealing with crime? Or are they simply looking for the system that is most palatable to them? There is no cost too great when it comes to protecting children from violent predators (unless you would like to disagree with that statement), so the cost of prisons and extended incarceration should not bother anyone. Of course, a bullet is still cheaper.

I think this whole "police want it" debate is hilarious. I work with about 11 ex-cops (RCMP, K Division, drug squad...and highway enforcement - including my boss, 23 years RCMP), and every time this conversation comes up (when it hits the news) they all agree on one thing: When checking on a scene, they want to know one thing - are the people that are identified to be inside likely to have guns. They also agree that the registry does not accomplish this. A properly maintained criminal records system does. Previous charges (who cares about convictions) say a lot about an individual. During one conversation, one ex-member said he wished that all Conditional sentances and aquittals would show on their mobiles. Now THAT would be useful for cops. Registries do nothing. Someone made the statement that they should be regulating ammo sales. Now THAT makes sense (as I've said before). Bullets will still be smuggled into Canada, but if they were to properly track sales within our borders, at least they would have a reasonable idea who is an ACTIVE gun user. If someone starts buying rounds for a Glock, you may have a problem on your hands.

Alberta's still pissed about the GST ("I will get rid of the GST!!!!" - "I never said that!"). Harmonization is great if you're a business or a tax-collecting government. It simply increases revenues for both, while the consumer takes it in the ... Think how much easier it will be to sneak a tax increase in. If any government tried to raise one tax and then raise the other right away, they'd be done for. This way, one increase is actually two and the public only gets to get mad once. Sneaky.
