After reading through the "Ed Stelmach resigns" thread and listening to all the responses, I'm curious who public opinion will put in his chair. I'm not looking for who you would WANT to see take the job, but who you BELIEVE will take the job. If you choose "Other" as a party, please specify which one. Since there are so many posters saying that out of the 3.7million people in the province, "more than half" are from elsewhere (immigrated), then results on this board which are open to everyone should be close (maybe). Let the polling begin.

Topaz, are you still actively investigating the X-Files, or did Skinner suspend those indefinitely?

To fund or not to fund...Quebec arena
Hydraboss replied to Topaz's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Like this is even a question. Kwebek...culture...art...french heritage. Those are all the words you need to know to get funded in that territory. They'll get the money (along with weak excuses of how "it's different" when the feds fund everything and anything Kwebek wants). As for Edmonton, THANK GOD they refused that black hole. The idiot Mandel constantly wants money to put on stupid things to put Edmonton on the elusive "map". After years of him wasting other people's money, there's still no sign of this "map". Maybe it's in french? -
After this last night Oooohhhh!!! I vote for zombie apocalypse. You never know.....could be a super-virus outbreak. Looking at a lot of the "working joe" types in my neighborhood, it may already have started.

In all likelihood, yes. They will come and arrest you. That is why they are drafting this...to arrest YOU for cheating at Monopoly. Poker is a possibility as well, but they are truly trying to stem the rising tide of Monopoly cheating. After the recession and the financial institution meltdown in the States, I think they're attempting to prevent the training of future corrupt bank CEO's by stopping the obvious deceit, deception, duplicity, chicanery, double-dealing, fiddling, misappropriation, fraud, embezzlement and downright not-goodedness that is so common in the home-game black market. Good thing.

Census - Mandatory or Voluntary
Hydraboss replied to Keepitsimple's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Because no one has ever come up will a compelling argument for me to do so, except "Just simply fill it out, keep answering questions and quit asking questions." That would be the "politics" being played ala minority government. I see this as very, very simple. The government puts into law that any and all information collected is for the sole use of government sectors. The CRA does it (in theory). In law that no information is to be made freely available or sold to any NGO for any purpose. This way they get their information for policy decisions, and all the "think tanks" can pay to do their own research - which will be voluntary. I'm sure the United Way will whine because they can't have their free statistics, but then, I couldn't give a rat's ass about the United Way. Nor could a ton of other people. C D Howe can pay IPSOS for the information they want. So can every other charity (or group of charities) and policy group out there. I shouldn't be on the hook as a taxpayer for the cost of NGO operations. And that is why so many of us find you hard to take seriously. You don't question what the Mighty and Powerful Oz asks. Government to your young mind is this well-meaning, benign entity that is out to save it's people. Trust in them and you will prosper. -
Now THAT shit is funny!

Atleo calls for end of Indian Act within five years
Hydraboss replied to scribblet's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Not only is the government helping you, it's babysitting you. Has been for generations. The rest of the world is experiencing this whole crisis where adult children are beginning to live at home into their 30's, but forgets to look in their own backyards at the reserves where fully-dependent families are spending their entire lives on handouts. My kids are 12 and 13 and they get an allowance. Thank god I won't have to pay that forever like we do to indians on reserve. At least my son and daughter will learn to stand on their own two feet. -

I'd probably be offended if I were a Tory. And it's pretty much impossible to argue the "priest" thing. -

Wrong, meatball. It's EXACTLY correct. WOW! Now THAT just shocks the hell out of me! Who'da thunk that an indian would do what he's told because he wants money? Not me. So you admit that the Canadian government makes you guys do what it wishes! And without force, too. Just got to hold the old Friday check for a while, eh? Nice try. Notice how you have to kneel and hope the Crown gives a damn about it's "honour" (or else you get nothing). So if we let you run more casinos and shit, you'll quit living off of our goodwill (and welfare)? Excellent. Building permit granted. You're a kept people (those on reserves) and you do what you're told. When you throw a fit, we throw you a bone. When you throw a tantrum, we put up with it for a while. When we get tired of it, we send in the military to spank you a little. What do you have to show for all your "shadow warriors"? What "Great Stories" will you tell your grandkids? How about the "Tale of the DuMaurier Casino Battle" where you bravely won the right to smoke in casinos and bingo halls on reserves? Then there's the riveting "Burning of the Houses of Caledonia" where heroic warriors terrorized "a" family? Ranks right up there with Little Big Horn, doesn't it? -

Regardless of where indian lands/governance stand constitutionally, they are defacto under the rule of the Canadian federal government. If an indian commits murder, he is tried in a Canadian court. The federal government dictates the treaty welfare amounts they receive. Land claims are resolved based on what Canadian courts and government decide is "equitable". While posters (and poster children) like CR wish to point to this treaty and that proclamation, the reality is that the indians will submit to whatever is decided through Canadian channels. Who would they appeal to (ultimately) other than the Canadian Supreme Court? The UN? The international indian whatever-whatever? They live with what we decide. End of story. -
It's not some kind of conspiracy theory...it's smart business practice. If I sell widgets (that everyone needs) for $1.00 and it costs me $0.30 to produce, then I make a pile when I sell a pile. If only half as many people want widgets, I double the price to $2.00 and then I not only make the same gross revenue, but I gain the $0.30 per unit that it doesn't cost me to build the widgets no one wants. So instead of making $0.70 per widget, I actually make $1.70 (because I have a ROI based on the sales of two with the output cost of only one). Same with oil. Due to the cost of production to the pump, the more I make per unit the less of my commodity I have to produce. Since people (for the forseeable future) will still need my oil, I don't have to worry about them looking at alternative sources for energy because nothing even comes remotely close to filling the need (cars don't run on nuclear power yet). It all gets bought eventually. If it doesn't sell as fast as I would like, I raise the price again to maintain my gross and net profits. The higher the price - the higher the margin. As for refineries Bill, there is very little difference in practice between an oil sands production facility and a refinery (I've been involved with both). Different parts - basically the same regulatory requirements. And we're building production facilities left and right in Alberta. Why would ANY oil company want to remove the "bottleneck"???

Tories scrapping long form census
Hydraboss replied to Moonbox's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
So how about this... I agree to honestly fill out the long form census in exchange for: The Canadian government making it illegal to conduct any type of polling in any way, shape or form. This includes political pollsters, EKOS, Stats Can, Ipsos Reid, Airmiles, Sears, telemarketing, MP's reps calling my house, removal of all non-essential questions from FutureShop/Visa/Brick card applications, etc, etc, etc. The Canadian government must also commit to harsh jail sentences for violation. Alberta Health will no longer be able to ask any personal information on application forms, the bank can kiss my ass if they request any info that is not directly associated to my loan application (how much do you make - how much do you take home?). All of those private stats-sucking organizations that make free use of census information must be restricted to single-source information pools (Stats Can only). Fraser Institute is toast. CD Howe...history. Council of Canadians, well, have fun quoting what you don't have access to. Canadian Center for Policy Alternatives - gonzo. Caledon Institute of Social Policy will have to make do with what they can get from the feds. I think this would make for a very equitable deal. -
Canadians have the right to health care under Security of Person about as much as I have the right to drive a car under the Mobility clause. A commonly accepted notion does not a right make. And as for the US right to bear arms, comparing that to a Canadians right to health care is ridiculous. It is written on an old piece of paper in black and parchment. Very clear and concise. There are Americans that would die to defend this right, whereas there are some Canadians that would whine to defend health care.

Tories scrapping long form census
Hydraboss replied to Moonbox's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Don't forget questions like: How many rooms in your dwelling. Annual electricity payments. Ancestors ethnic origin (by the way, "Canadian" is not an option). How many unpaid hours per week spent doing the following: Bathing children, etc And don't forget why they need your info... Canadian Census Human Right Circus? So they can further divide Canadians?? Immigration Settlement and Adaptation Program??? So they can divert more funds to people who are not Canadian? Canada Health and Social Transfer? I was with them up until "Social Transfer". Bunch of bullshit. Immigration Act? Can anyone say "duplication"? Employment Equity Act? So they're promoting yet more inequity by creating dividing lines? -

73% of New Canadians fear for their children lives around water
Hydraboss replied to RB's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I am not inventing anything. The whole premise of this thread is that "newcomers" should be given free swimming lessons. The "racist" comment I made was on the balance beam of "Canadian" vs "new Canadian"; the opinion was that one group should have lessons paid for but not the other. Racism that is not based on race. Fine, we'll call it favoritism then. If there is a group that feels we owe anything to newcomers, I AM NOT IN THAT GROUP. We open the gates and the treasury to those who have done nothing to deserve it (and in some instances everything not to deserve it). The swimming lessons are only a symptom of the two sides of this whole immigrant debate. I want camel racing lessons and I want YOU to pay for it. Of course, I AM a socialist. -

But the OP wasn't about Canadian subsidies for Canadians. It was specifically directed to Canadian subsidies to "newcomers"/"new Canadians". You're right. This IS racist.
